I went in with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Yes, it's a bit chaotic, chlorinated, and crowded. But, it's all about the kids, and kids have a blast here. My favorite attractions were the lazy river, the wave pool, and the slide where you circle around and around before you drop (forgot the name). Plus, they have some quiet places for adults to relax and recharge. The adult only jacuzzi is one. It's especially great in the evening when the kids program starts in the lobby. Also, I like that they are good employers and employ people with special needs. The lifeguards are top notch, as are the employees working the slides. All in all, it's a great way to spend the day if you have kids. read more

Took my 14 and almost 10 year old for two nights to this location. While it is older and shows its age...it still was a ton of fun! Omg, my boys and I had a great time on all of the slides, wave pool, fortress and jacuzzis. It's expensive, but I knew that going in and there was a great sale at the time I purchased our rooms. So it evened out. AND we took advantage and stayed until water park closing at 8pm each night. We had dinner off site to save some money. Bfast for three at Dunkin Donuts was $47 ouch but hey, it's expected. All in all we truly had the best time, made memories and bonded on all of the rides. My kids had a blast. They are 8 and 10 sonprobably the perfect age. I can't imagine theyd like it as much when theyre a little older becaise the slides werent super thrilling but they took advantage of every aspect of the resort which is not cheap. They were out of a lot of drinks and the room wasnt the cleanest. We later learned it had recently flooded though. The service was mostly fantastic. We have been to GWL many times now, and it is our favorite place! It's always a wonderful experience for our family, however I wanted to share our last trip specifically. We went for one night, decided to stay two. One our second day, we received a phone call from home that my dad had had a heart attack and we needed to come home. Still one of the most perfect places to take small kids too if they enjoy the water. We've been to the one in the Chicago area so we were excited to try this one. I still stand by what I say when it comes to bringing your own snacks/food and take advantage of the nearby restaurants and/or grocery stores. Some advantages or disadvantages, depending on the age group you're traveling with. The Chicago location has a smaller young kid area whereas this one is much bigger and a little more to do. The wave pool and lazy river in Chicago is much bigger than this location. Since they provide life jackets, my kids have really enjoyed all that is offered and that they're able to do. My kids didn't play golf or arcade games because they just wanted to swim but both looked really cool. A few food places and ice cream shop inside the resort and a Build-A-Bear. Due to the weather, didn't get a chance to experience the outside pool but I know we'll make it back. read more

We've been to quite a few Great Wolf Lodges as our kids are growing up and this one is by far the best. They made a few mistakes with billing while we were there and more than made up for it. Great Wolf Lodge is perfect for families with kids of multiple ages, though most activities are geared for around early elementary school age. The water park, hotel, and facilities were clean and well taken care of despite the busy crowds. The expansive splash pad was fun for our young son, while my nephews enjoyed floating on the lazy river, jumping on lilly pads, jumping in the wave pool and trying all the big slides. We had no issue finding a comfy seat by the pool which also was a nice surprise! Expect to pay a premium price for the convenience of having the amenities there on site. My biggest complaint is that they overcharge for food, parking, and really anything they can. The staff I interacted with were polite and professional, but I don't feel that they went above and beyond to make the stay special. All in all a memorable visit for a quick family trip! read more

We got day passes at the Great Wolf Lodge last year and had a wonderful time. Based on that experience, we decided to get a room for a few nights for my son's birthday. Overall, the entire experience was miserable. When we got to our room, we discovered a hair covered bathtub and a floor littered with nerd candy that my young son was more than delighted to eat. Once night came, we all went to bed. There were older kids running up and down the hallways banging on doors (including ours) throughout the night. None of us slept well. We all got up tired but excited to go down to the water park. Overall, the waterpark was...okay. The water seems a lot colder than last year (even though we went at the same time of year), we had to remind the towel check in guy to scan our bands so that we didn't get charged for towels, and even though we were there during the week at 10:30am, it was still nearly impossible to find two chairs together. The place was packed. We stayed in the waterpark for a few hours but eventually went back to our room to warm up. All of the hotels other activities are expensive addons and the food is expensive as well. The overall experience is very predatory. Every time you turn around there is another money grab. They charge $20 a night for parking and hold $100 PER night that you stay as an incidental hold fee, so be prepared for that. We decided as a family that we did not want to stay another day / night, so we ended up forfeiting our money and heading home an entire day early. Before checking out, I stopped by the gift shop to grab a small toy for my son. Most of toys were lacking price tags. I grabbed a plushie that I knew my son would like (and that had a price tag on it) and went up to pay. They tried to charge me $16 when the tag price said $12. I pointed it out and had to wait 10 minutes for a manager to come correct the price. The best part... I chose to check out at the front desk instead of the AI service, so that I could talk to an actual person. I wanted to explain why we were leaving a day early. No apologize for the dirty room...nothing, I was told that I should have contacted a care member if I wanted it fixed and that they couldn't do anything about it now and that they would get me checked out. We left and drove home. Later that night, we started receiving emails about extending our stay. After being on the phone for a while and talking to several people, I figured out that the person at the check out desk never actually checked us out. I would love to know what extra charges would have incurred had I not figured that one out. Will not be staying there again. Have never felt the need to waste my money by leaving a hotel early. I just feel bad that I wasn't able to give my son the birthday that we had planned on it being. read more

Weekend lodging costs $75+ vs the weekday. Especially considering that it is... - Dirty. It's old and it shows. Built in early 2000s and the last renovation was 2013. The room was spotless, but you can smell the mildew. Carpet + waterpark. Good thing we had a balcony, so we could air it out. The water park itself is filthy. They took the MRSA scare from years ago seriously by just adding more chlorine. The chlorine fumes in the wave pool burned my eyes before the water got to my knees. That, plus the water flow, has eaten the concrete of the lazy river. The smooth concrete ends at the waterline, both my husband and I skinned our knees. The water is never changed, only recycled. It all has a brown tenge to it. Many of the large tube slides have dark streaks on them, originating from the water spigots. It just highlighted the obvious priority, as most hotels have, money vs customer health. Can't close shop for a weekend to power wash or to change the water seasonally. These, plus my 9 yr old child could not play with her dolls nor wear her mermaid tail in the shallow end of the baby pool, are the reasons we won't be staying or visiting here again. I do understand the possible dangers with both (toys and a tail in water) and life guards were polite about it, but we have done both in a public pools for considerably less money. read more

This part is for the shareholders. We spent 5 nights here and have been to different GWL locations over 10x in the past decade. This visit prompted this review. As a business owner myself, when I see ONE bartender at the only bar in the water park every single day with a constant massive line I have some questions. Mainly, how much money do you have to lose in overpriced drinks before you make sure you have more than one bartender? Primarily on the last day of spring break on a Saturday. If I'm going to spend $20 on a massively overpriced drink, let alone 2-3, I'm not waiting 15-30 min, I want it immediately. That's not hyperbole I assure you. My family and I were parked right outside of the bar area every day and not only did I leave the line after 15 min of the line barely moving the first day, MANY others did as well. I never went back. I understand if people will pay the money, you can charge what you want and treat them how you want. There is a line in the sand at a certain point however where it is your obligation as a business to treat them right if you want to exist and exist well. I'm sure your numbers are fantastic but please consider caring more about the people keeping you in the black. Making people pay to park not only once but every day is insulting. This part is for the consumer. See above as well as... The room prices are what they are. They are constantly at full capacity especially at peak times so this won't change. Try to come during the week and skip the holidays or times when kids are out of school to maximize your dollar. The breakfast buffet prices are ridiculous, skip it. The pizza is overpriced but very good. The value at the Northern Lights Arcade just isn't there, BUT I feel you know what you are getting into here so that is at your own risk. The magiquest has a bottleneck where families pile up to complete the dragon quest(s). It gets contentious when multiple families have multiple kids on the same quest trying to get past a certain point. GWL currently have a monopoly on the indoor water park/family getaway destination. Especially considering they are open in cold weather regions all year long. I just hope at some point they take better care of their customers because there are absolutely tweaks they can make to make sure every review is 5 stars and solidify them in perpetuity as the premier midwest family getaway destination. read more

Brought grand kids here for a weekend getaway. Kids had a great time and didn't want to leave. Pizza was pretty good. Buffett for dinner was mediocre. Breakfast buffet was really good every day we were there. Place is very large and has a hard time finding things at first. Place is definitely a money pit and kids will want everything there and will make you go broke. Room was clean and nice. Waterpark was good. Kids only played in wave pool and lily pad pool area. Kids got cold so we got in hot tub. Very very crowded. Kids got the MagiQuest wand and game and they really enjoyed it but a little tough for them to understand how to play and where to find things. read more

This is a nice place to visit your family. It's right off the highway and about 15 minutes away from other restaurants and Walmart. The rooms were a little dated. The food was pricey. It gives off a resort vibe. There are TONS of things for the kids to do and enjoy. I would suggest having a policy in place for seating. All of the seats were taken in the pool area. We sat there for hours, and no one came to claim the seats. It should be a 2-seat maximum per family, and if you're in the pool for an extended time, you shouldn't be able to hog seats. We watched people get frustrated and not be able to enjoy the pool due to no seating. We got caught in the middle of a tornado, so we had to evacuate to the first floor. That was an experience. Went for a weekend getaway with my partner and enjoyed every second of it ! I had a discount from work, otherwise I may not have found the price of the actual stay worth it. There are obviously a lot of attractions for kids, but were kids at heart and found a lot of ways to have fun ! Our room had a whirlpool tub which would have been great, but our jets didn't want to come on. The bed was super comfy though ! And the room was the most spacious room I've ever booked. All of the food we had was amazing. We went to the restaurant for dinner one night. The food there did seem a tad overpriced, but it was good. Nothing weren't not used to coming from Bloomington, IN. The buffets both had a lot of options. This may seem overpriced if you don't eat your moneys worth. The pizza place was really good. And all of the drinks were fun ! The staff was excellent ! Everyone was super friendly and conversational. A lot of the workers looked like they really loved their job. The only thing I can say there is, I wish some of them would have spoken up. A lot of people tended to whisper which I could understand in a pretty loud environment. My only complaints would be (besides the whirlpool not working): I wish there was an easier way to find a map of the place. Once we found our way around it wasn't so bad, but at first we were very lost. And at check-in, they connected my card to my wristband which I thought was great so I didn't have to bring my card everywhere. However, I found that didn't work for most of the card readers. I had to go back to my room any time I wanted to add tokens to my card in the arcade. Everywhere else let you charge your room which was great. I would definitely come back ! Perhaps next time I'll time it to when kings island is open. Tips: bring your own snacks/drinks/lunch/watershoes if possible ! It made the trip a lot less costly. read more

We've been coming here for years and have always dealt with amazing employees. The convenience of having a waterpark, restaurants, and an arcade is pretty nice. We even spent a fair amount of time playing MagiQuest throughout the hotel, too. The main problem with staying here is the exuberant price. We brought our own drinks and food to save money this time. For dinner we left the property and ordered take-out from a restaurant in the area. They've also started charging people for parking on the property. The Dunkin location isn't connected to the mobile app due to them having their own inflated prices. While I enjoyed our time, the prices and high occupancy make me hesitant to return. The rooms aren't fantastic so know you'll probably spend most of your time outside of them. There's little space and they aren't always cleaned properly. read more

Great stay for a family getaway! Rooms come cabin themed and you can pick for the kids to have a separate area with tv. Or full cabin. You can get a room for 2 or up to 10+! Quality of the rooms I'd compare to the same type of cabin rooms on cruise ships, just with More space of course. The water park area is great! I took my 7 and 8 year old that have swim training so I was able to sit and read a book while they played at each area. It's a whole diff experience if you have littles that need more hands on assistance so keep that in mind! Great Wolf Lodge is right next to Kings Island too! They have a walking trail between the two. Tips: -water shoes -cooler full of food and snacks unless you're cool paying the food prices at the park -if you are not swimming in the pool Area but hanging out to watch your kids know it gets hot! I use to visit Great Wold Lodge often when my kids were younger, but it's been a few years since I've been here. They now require parking and ask that you scan in and out of the parking lot. I think that's crazy. $19 per car is expensive. The rooms were clean and completely fine when I took my girl scout troop recently. The water park is fun, but definitely geared towards younger kids and thrill seekers. There isn't really a lot for middle of the road people. Food wise we ordered the girls pizza and they liked it. It's expensive. I have a diary and gluten allergy. I was able to eat a burger at the small snack place inside the water park. The gentleman I spoke with said that they could safely make it for me and they did. The fries were quite terrible though. Not cooked and you could tell sat for awhile. Also way over salted. Overall it was a fun trip, but I'd personally not take my own family back. read more

I had to wait in line 5 different times so I spent most of the day trying to get a room and as soon as they told me I could stay in that room. This was our first time saying at a GWL. So I don't have anything to compare to. If I could sum up our stay with two words, it would be overpriced and smelled dirty. Now, with that said, the gentleman who checked us in was super friendly and polite! If my review was based on him, it would be a 5 star! Our room was fairly clean. The floor was vacuumed but fixtures were dusty and appeared to not have been wiped down in a while. The remote for the tv was disgusting. Bathroom wasn't bad, plenty of hot water and pressure. If you're looking for peace and quiet, this is not the place. Quiet time begins at 11pm, but not enforced. We called to request the room above us to possibly be quieter, with no help. It was very loud and made it difficult for us and our littles to sleep. We woke the next morning with a not under our door stating noise could not be found. The hallway to our room smelled like dirty socks... yes. That was hard to ignore. The inside waterpark had enough to keep young ones busy. Be prepared to sweat if you're not swimming. Whew it was hot in there. I understand why It needs to be warm, but let's put some fans in the sitting areas for us lazy adults. The lifeguards were on point. They stayed on the move and watched the patrons like hawks. That was nice to see. Okay, with that all being said, this was probably a one and done for us. read more

This is the last time I'll be eating here. The food is expensive and almost unpalatable now. Our family stayed at for 2 nights starting New Year's Day. Checking in was horrific and took an hour plus, then the room was not ready until almost 4:45. I will say They did give us a pizza voucher for that. We did precheck in...didn't matter 19 dollars per day for parking is insane used to be free last year, the price of the food is astronomical as well and the food is not good. You only can order from a glitchy kiosk A 32 oz icee is going to run you 16.99, the portions are terrible as well. It's highway robbery. The place is dirty and looks run down, think of if motel 6, your local rec center and Chuck E. Cheese had a baby...this place is it. The pools are gross my kids said they saw alot of gum in the wave pool with their googles. The bands are always randomly not working, a lot of time at the front desk. We paid for late check out and I was putting our belongs in our car had one more load and at 2:00:01 I was locked out of the room and couldn't get back in the building (another line) so make sure you are out before check out. Took so long to load up because elevators are slow and you can't find a cart. It's Disney World prices with a motel 6 experience and quality. Just go to Disney for these prices. Our eyes burn from all the chlorine I never went under water. Water was also FREEZING the water park itself could have been warmer, they don't like you to take the towels so plan ahead for the long cold wet towel-less walk back to the room. As an adult, I went for her and thought it was a little gross... because most kids are gross. - get the app before you come and try to do paperwork before so that you have the QR code and can skip the line - there is a fridge and microwave in the room. Bring snacks/drinks. The food is a bit costly and not good - bring towels or a cover up. You can rent towels there, but you have to return when you leave the water park. So you might want to bring your own so that kiddos don't freeze on the way back to the room. - aside from water park. There is a magic quest, mini golf, bowling, build a bear, arcade, and activities in the main room. The dance parties are fun, if you have bubble wands at home, bring them. Or you can buy them for $30 there It's cashless, you can link your credit card with the band that you use to get in the park and get in your room. But you need a credit card for the arcade downstairs. Try to go on a weekday, and early. We got there At 10:30 on Friday (park opens at 10) and the only free chairs available were the ones right up against the wave pool. We arrived at 7ish on a Monday, and the room we got had a leaking AC unit, which caused the entire carpet to be soaking wet and the room to be ridiculously humid. We ended up switching to another room, which didn't have any outlets in the kids area, and smelled of mildew. The door to the bathroom was also broken. The water park area was alright, but the amount of unsupervised children running into me and screaming next to me was a little unpleasant. There was also an absurd amount of chlorine in the water. I purchased a medium pizza from the in-house pizza parlor, a little overpriced but good nonetheless. The arcade was a total bust, filled with scammy claw machines and games only enjoyable by toddlers. The staff were slow and incompetent, but fairly nice. Overall, I wouldn't really recommend Great Wolf Lodge unless you have very small children who are easily entertained by anything, and don't mind the moldy smell littering all of the rooms. read more

Welcoming, smooth, easy registration with thorough explanation about our package. A negative was that we had to put down a $400 incidental deposit, but they would not let me have ONE wine glass to the room. I had a very important wine tasting I had to do for a graduate level class and all I needed was to borrow one wine glass for a few hours, and they fought me on it like I was trying to get the Fort Knox gold reserve. There was plenty of parking, and I managed to get a handicap spot right near my room. We had lots of luggage carts to bring in all of our stuff. Upon entering, my kids were delighted. They were most excited about the lazy river and trying the fun different foods. After a couple days, they seemed more willing to try some of the exciting water slides. I had a nice time at yoga every morning, although it was definitely more for the kids. I love that the waterpark has an adult bar, although the drinks are expensive at $14 but good quality. We ordered breakfast at Dunkin this morning, but most of the sandwiches were already sold out by 8:30 AM. The items we got tasted like they were cooked in an unclean microwave to be honest. The breakfast bar is $10 for kids and $20 for adults if you wanna go that route. Last night we had dinner nearby at cataract brewing and it was super cool. Tonight we tried the local wildflower Café, which you have to get reservations for & it was amazing!! Tomorrow we're gonna stay mainly in the hotel because it's supposed to storm. I recommend getting the add-on package with the food and fun pass. It includes two games of the magicalquest Hunt, unlimited bowling, and unlimited mini golf along with unlimitedsoft drinks and popcorn. Definitely a great add-on!! They have daily maid service that gives you new towels and takes out the trash, but doesn't make the beds or anything extra like that. Things I was missing that I wish I had brought were toothbrushes, conditioner, goggles, and a cooler. The Kids Cabin was the BEST! My eight-year-old and 12-year-old definitely enjoy the magic quests and bowling. They offered us the option of adding one more night for only $75 a night, but the kids were ready to leave after five days. Good trip!! read more

This was our 4th and last stay at Great Wolf Lodge. It has become nothing more than a cash grab. Since our last visit they started charging guests for parking $19/day/car on top of an already expensive stay. I could understand maybe charging for parking for people just getting a day pass to the water park. But if we are paying for a room that fee should be waived. The food and play packages are expensive, but trying to pick and choose and do any of the activities without the passes are astronomical. The mark up in the gift shop is ridiculous. One stuffed animal was $60, found the same one on Amazon for $29. You also have to check out your towels in the waterpark and make sure to return them or you will be charged $15. The water park itself was fun for a day, which is the only reason I am giving 2 stars. But it's absolutely not worth the cost. And the magic quest activities are hit or miss if they even work. We also had an encounter with a rude employee at check in. We called right when we got to our room and politely requested a pack and play be delivered for my niece. The lady just said "hold on" then I heard her come back to the phone and not say anything, she just hung up. So we called back thinking it was an accident. Once again we said "can we please have a pack and play delivered to room 4044?" She was clearly very annoyed and said "you already called" and hung up again. The pack and play was delivered in about 20 mins. So that was fine, but the person answering the phones needs a new job that doesn't include customer service. read more

Once we got down to the water park half of the water park is being worked on and we we're told was down for 9 days for maintenance. They didn't tell us this at upon check-in. The rooms are cozy, especially the ones with bunk beds. Grand daughter loved her "bedroom," which was just a set of bunk beds. Luckily, at 2 years, the ladder was designed so young ones can only climb so high. The full bed was squishy. We had 4 pillows for the 1 bed. The room was satisfactory; other than the shower (mold), bathroom fan (loud) & pipe running from the wall to the toilet (crusty.) *See photos. The refrigerator in my daughter's room needed to be defrosted. All employees were very nice. The options for Pup Passes are good. Close to highway & near restaurants. Some may experience sensory overload. Everything here, especially FOOD, is OVER PRICED. $5 for a standard size bottle of Gatorade. $19.99 for the breakfast buffet. $3.99 for a regular sized candy bar. If you would like to partake of a beer or wine, bring your own too. Most cans of beer were sold for $9.99. I didn't even look at the wine. Due to prices & lack of fresh options, Mike drove to Jimmy John's to get a deli sandwich. Here's your TIP-Bring coolers with your own food & drink. Mike saw a grandma have 3 tables pushed together & laid out the lunch buffet for her family. She unpacked the cooler & the family came for their lunch at the viewing area. Now, that's the way to do it. Bring snacks & drinks. Clearly, they don't mind. And if they do, apologize & pack it up. There are no signs or posts about not bringing outside food. If you stay here & you are on a floor 2-4, please don't let your children run in your room after 11 pm. The ceilings are not sound proof. Thank you for your consideration. read more

Great wolf lodge was so epic! We had such a blast! From booking the water park and the entire family enjoying their time there! The themed rooms were cool for the kids, they loved it! I thought that it was nice they had different activities outside of the pool like arcade, mini golf, bowling, and scavenger hunt! The kids got to do meet and greets with the different mascot animals. The highlights: the water park was so fun and plenty to do, the outdoor pool as well was a hidden gem, the different food spots (Dunkin' Donuts, pizza, conscience store-ish). The only things that I wish could have been done better was the cleanliness of some of the areas! Our room was clean with no issues, but the pizza restaurant was a mess! Just certain areas had some trash and could have been cleaned up better! Overall I would certainly return! It was a fun family event! read more

TLDR: If you do go to a GWL, make sure you check your CC and dispute the 'towel fee' they're going to charge you, and make sure you actually see the refund on your account. Went here during family get together for the past two summers. They probably would've gotten a 3-star review from me if they don't run a 'towel fee' scam. The first year, a member of the family had enough foresight to check at the towel desk that we had 0 balance after we turned everything in. When the clerk said no, that family member was insistent enough that we had turned everything in (and we did), that the clerk was willing to clear it. This past stay, we had too many people checking out towels and leaving at different times, we didn't make sure they credited all the towels we returned before we left. Then we saw the $230+ 'towel fee' on our credit card. Their check-in / check-out system is ridiculous and prone to errors. I mean, dump the towels into a bin and it'll credit you the right number? If it's by weight, it'll vary with water weight. If it's by count -- the barely-paying-attention clerk can't possibly count how many towels are in a big bundle. So I called and disputed it. Two days later got an email saying they've refunded the fees and it should show up in 7-10 business days. After 11 business days, no refund. So I emailed back, and essentially got a reply of, "Oh, sorry we didn't actually refund you. We've refunded you this time." And it does not take 7-10 business days for the pending refund to show up on the CC account. If they want to charge such punitive towel fee ($30/towel), they better be sure their system is 99.9% error free. But they instead opt for an inaccurate system and punitive fee. Why? Because it's another stream of income for them, given that not everyone is going check their CC statements to see that they got charged those towel fees. And then not everyone is going to bother calling to dispute to get the fee refunded. And they've added yet another layer of dishonesty by not actually refunding when they say they do, so that people have to pay attention and make sure the refund actually shows up, and to contact them again to ask a second time! NOT going back to another GWL. read more

My family and I have visited this Great Wolf Lodge twice now. The first time was about a week before the pandemic shut everything down in 2020, and the last time was just recently in the summer of 2022. Not much changed between those two time periods, which is either good or bad, depending on how much you like Great Wolf Lodge. I visit these types of places for my kids, and my kids love this place, so I'm basing my review on them. There is a lot for kids to love here. My kids especially love the MagiQuest game that's available at the hotel, where you're basically on a scavenger hunt that takes you all over. You have to purchase a wand and a game (they have four different games to choose from), but once you've purchased your wand, you can use it again and again when you come back. We played in 2020, and when we came back in 2022, our game was right where we had left off. It's a good activity that will have you getting your steps in. Another favorite is the waterpark, of course. There is an indoor waterpark and an outdoor waterpark. The outdoor portion is open during the summer. There's a lazy river, a wave pool, an activity pool, a hot tub for families, and a lot more. My kids also like the arcade at GWL, which is where you will find a mini bowling alley and glow golf. Then there are the activities. There are around-the-clock things for kids to do, including storytimes, arts & crafts, singalongs, dance parties and even yoga for kids. Something is always happening all day. One of the things that has changed since 2020 is the Build a Bear shop. Yes, they have a BAB shop in the hotel! When we were there two years ago, you could find all sorts of different stuffed animals and outfits. This time, they only have outfits with GWL logos on them. We were going to get some outfits for my kids' BAB animals, but they decided not to get them because they didn't want those logos on them. There are restaurants inside the hotel, too. One of them is a sit-down restaurant with a buffet, and another one is a casual pizza restaurant by the arcade. There is also a Dunkin', which is a popular spot in the mornings. Overall, GWL is a fun hotel for families with young kids. My oldest is almost at the age where he might be aging out of it soon (he's almost in middle school), but there's a lot for young kids and their families. read more

Let me first say that this place is way less stressful than the other hotel water parks in Ohio that we have been to (which is a BIG plus)! First off, the parking was decent. There were workers putting up some new siding as we entered the building. It looked really nice, like they were putting in some nice renovations. It took really long time at the front desk, though all the registers were manned. The lady was pretty friendly when we finally got there. Though there was not "one" line, which was confusing and a bit disorganized as guests were scattered about trying to receive assistance. We then walked around the area which had a few restaurants like Dunkin' Donuts, a pizza place and a buffet area. They also had an arcade, mini golf and a MagiQuest. They definitely need maps because the place is big and the parking/doors (that are numbered) are confused to find (in order to get to your room). Our room was quite big and seemed nice. Our room was on the fourth floor and overlooked the outside water park. When we were able to get to the water park area with the kids, the life guards were super nice and not too overbearing (like at some waterpark/hotels we have been to). There is a little kid pool area with smaller slides and basketball, a wave pool, several other bigger slides, including a family slide, an area with buckets and more slides, a lazy river, outdoor area, bar/adult hot tub, and more. It was decent sized and not too crammed with people, which was nice. My only qualm was there was only one food area and one bar. I felt like there needed to be more variety and options for food in this place. Though service was good at Buckels and the food was too (ordered salad and drink). The kids did have a blast. We were not thrilled with the water park hours though. It is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. I feel like it should be more than that... Maybe 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.? Maybe even include an adult only hour? (This would entice people more, in my opinion). I would highly recommend trying the family slide and the toilet bowl (yellow and orange) slide. Those were both really fun and definitely something we liked the most. We also tried the arcade, which was okay (not a lot of variety, most of them were worth 10-12 points, which is quite expensive). There were a lot of claw machines, and NOT good ones. The kind that have crappy claws, even if you have perfect aim you are not getting anything... The ticket area is self-manned, we were a few off from both kids getting the item they wanted and the sweet lady there gave it to them anyways (which was really kind and much appreciated). We did pizza for dinner. The pizza and soda were pretty good. The lady at the desk for pick up had no personality though and it took three times of telling our name and giving her our receipt for her to return with our meals. Check out was really easy, it auto-checks out for you and you use your wrist bands to get into your room and water park. Plus, you can rent out their towels with it too (which were really warm when we got them, which was nice). Overall, we did enjoy this location (minus a few smaller things).
