Me and my husband got lunch here after seeing a post about a hotdog museum. We both got the Dixie Dog which is the basic chilli cheese dog and split a basket of chilli cheese fries. It was delicious, this isn't just your typical hotdog, it was so good and had a bite to it. The buns were toasted and chilli sauce homemade. The fries were just as good and the cheese and chilli layers through them. I everything was fresh and service was quick. The restaurant if full of hotdogs antiques and signs. Fond memories of O'Betty's call me back on every trip to Hocking Hills or Athens. Why? I can't even eat a bun but they've figured it out. (Over fries - Ask about it!) I don't even eat meat but there's a tofu dog for that. And no one is mean about it lol. At the right time of night, it's goooooood.. You have to dine in at O'Betty's to understand the charm. An ode to hot dogs and history, you have to see it to believe it. The hot dogs themselves have fancy names, but they're straightforward in their delivery and taste. The Cajun fries had a bunch of seasoning added after the frying process. It led to an inconsistent taste as some fries were submerged in spice and others were barren. Overall it's worth the trip if you're on campus at Ohio University. read more

I was looking for someplace interesting and different to have lunch before leaving Athens, and boy, did I find it in O'Betty's. A quirky little (emphasis on little!) hot dog joint off Court Street and not easily seen from the road, O'Betty's was everything I wanted. We were greeted as soon as we walked through the door by friendly staff behind the counter. Their menu is an awesome collection of all-beef hot dogs with different toppings- from the standard condiments to their version of the truly quirky Chicago style hot dog. All of the dogs are named for burlesque pin-ups. The 3-room atmosphere is an interesting clutter of things. Room 1: the counter. Room 2: burlesque. Room 3: all tings vintage hot dog. The spaces are tight. Tables are small. I had a Mata Hari- a dog with chili and cole slaw, and loved it. My second dog was a build-it-yourself consisting of the traditional "texas weiner" toppings of chili, diced onion and yellow mustard. I also ordered a large Very Cheesy Fries. I could wax poetic on the fries! Freshly cut, fried to crispy perfection, and the combination of spicy cheese sauce and shredded cheese was absolute perfection. Staff was great and super friendly. I had this place for a late night bite one evening while out in Athens. My friend recommended me the dog with sauerkraut (I cannot remember the name), and boy it did not disappoint. The wait was short, the price was good, and the food was great. You can taste the quality of their all-beef hot dogs, and it went so well with the sauerkraut, bacon, and horseradish. First time visiting here and maybe last. Except for the university, there is not much else. So it's time to make it count. According to the guy in the little window (late night hours, the dining area closes), they have been in business for many years. I can defitnetly see this place as a university staple for students. The worker said that this place is as Athens as it gets. According to my man at the window, the local favorite is the Dixie and Chili fries, so I went with that. I didn't care for it, but I suppose if you're drunk, hungry, and heading home after a late night, this place could taste better then. These are the hours of operation-11 am to 9 pm is their indoor seating. After 9 and up until 3 am is walk up. I'm thinking the dining area may also sway you, but I'm not so sure. So get a dog here or at Sheetz. read more

It was so awful! We ordered our food and paid and the young spiky blond male worker told us "get outside". We were shocked. He said dining room is closed. I said you don't throw out paying customers who ordered before you closed and are waiting for food. He said "get out, go outside dining room is closed". I was so excited to try this place but was sadly disappointed. The actual hot dog was good- with a great flavor- but the bun was soggy and the fixings were bland. I have to say this is a close rival to Dirty Franks in Columbus, OH. While the menu isn't as elaborate, it certainly captivates. Every dog can be done carnivorously or vegetarian, down to a delish veggie chili sauce. The real-meat dogs are sourced from Cleveland (my hometown) - I think it comes from one of the people who have a stand in the West Side Market. My S.O. really enjoyed the authentic snap to the dog. We both ordered the Dixie 'Hubba-Hubba' "Everbody's Favorite, Dixie delights using Homemade O'Betty's Chili Sauce, Fresh Diced Onions, Aged sharp Cheddar Cheese, and Stadium Mustard! $2.95" We grabbed our dogs and consumed them at Lucky's just up the street. O'Betty's has an almost old fashioned type walk up window. Peeking in the door was fun though, and we'll need to stop back for a dine-in. I used to think that I didn't really like hot dogs. That changed when I began my obsession with O'Betty's. While I haven't tried all of O'Betty's hot dog options (I find what I like and stick to it), I have to give praise to the Dixie and the Varla. Yeah, my breath smells not great after eating the sauerkraut and thousand island dressing on the Varla, but my belly is happy. Not matter how full I am, if I get a hot dog, I have to get fries. I'm pro adding cheese and bacon on EVERYTHING and it's no different with O'Betty's fries.
