Before I spoke to Beyond the Dog I spoke…read morewith another training service and after digging into very specific questions I found out that other service uses shock collars. Beyond the Dog uses only humane techniques that have been approved by animal behavior organizations. We were not sure what to expect from a trainer but we desperately needed help with our two smallest dogs. We had trouble with barking, reactivity, and aggression so we signed up for the executive program. IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY. Our trainer Ally changed our lives! She made a wonderful connection with both dogs. They hate when people come over and have never felt comfortable around anyone but us but you should see them when Ally arrives! They completely love her. She has worked with them on not barking, going to their place when people arrive and staying there, and walking next to us calmly outside. My family keeps commenting on what different dogs they are now. We are all so much calmer and happier! Word to the wise, you as an owner also have to be involved. Once the program was over we had to keep up the work in order to maintain all the progress she made.

My 8 week old puppy entered their "Puppy Start Right" program and immediately became accustomed to being handled, trained, and exposed to a lot of household items... crutches, canes, wheel chairs, hair dryer, grooming shears, extension cords, pots and pans. He became a very confident happy puppy quickly! However... the best part of that experience was what the trainers taught ME as the puppy mom! They taught me to always give my dog, a choice, never force him to do something that he is adverse to doing. They taught me about positive reinforcement. They taught me that always carrying my dog around is actually hindering his development, and that I need to allow him to be a "big dog" even though he talked out at 10 pounds. We continued to the adolescent program and I truly enjoyed the 4 weeks of daily day training, and Satchel loves his trainers! We were treated to a end of session handoff meeting, where we were taught how to continue teaching him the good manners, and the good behaviors that we all like seeing in a well trained dog. It was wonderful to be able to see him interact with his trainer. His trainer answered all our questions. In fact, it's important to know that every single day I took my dog in for training, I would greet a trainer who would ask if I had any questions. I knew that this group of fine humans loved my dog as much as I do, if not more at times. It is wonderful to see how satchel behaves in public, how he handles a leash, and how he behaves at home as a confident, young puppy. This center is very careful to not over populate their staff meaning they only take on a safe number of dogs that can be taught properly during the amount of time. Their facility is extremely clean my dog had access to water, food, treats and enrichment at all times. Satchel really enjoys the obstacle courses, and now he is currently being trained for the canine good citizen distinction. I really appreciate the fun activities like Easter egg hunts and group walks that allow me to interact with other dog owners.

She gets nervous when people come into the home and I'm not there which makes pet sitting a challenge - so much so that she was fired as a client by the service I used in Chicago. Enter Newman's. Not only are both sitters, Emma and Christine, lovely people, they handled Edna in stride. They are awesome about sending texts after every visit and give me updates and details so it never feels like they're just checking a box. Christine has been our go-to and she's just awesome...noticing things like new food bowls and finding nice things to say about my salty Edna. I always look forward to her texts when I'm away. The owner, Jena responds to requests immediately (even when she's on vacation) and never has a problem with last-minute schedule changes. Overall, the level of service is truly exceptional - I highly recommend Newman's if you're looking for someone to take amazing care of your pets while you're away.

When he is at the day care I watch from time to time to see what he is doing, and it is always fun to watch. I have never seen any mistreatment at all when watching. If a dog has an accident, they are right there with a mop and towels to clean it up. The groomers do an excellent job of grooming him. I've been a customer of Pooches…read moreParadise for more than 20 years and used to think of the business and the staff as an extension to our family. I am heartbroken by the decline and know that many of my local friends have also expressed concern over it. All the staff who used to work there left soon after the new management took over a few years back. It's become so much worse recently in my opinion, especially the last couple of times I've boarded my dog. First off, you are blasted by a strong urine smell when walking in the front door, which it never had before. After that, I was told by the front desk attendant that my dog peed her bed the night before. She then brought me all of her stuff, including the soaked pee filled bed in a trash bag that reeked 1. My dog has NEVER peed on anything in the house, for the 10 years I've had her, no matter how long I've left her. NEVER, not even after 12 hours! 2. It definitely smelled like more than one accident the night before. I asked the front desk attendant what happened with her the rest of the time and was told curtly that she guessed it was fine since she had no other notes on her. She also said that she only handled the front desk and never offered to get anyone to talk to me about it, even after I said that she had never peed on anything in the house, ever. I regret not asking her to get anyone else, but wanted to get myself and my dog out of there ASAP as the smell was only getting worse. Finally, she brought out my 11 year old pitbull-boxer mix who looked really unhappy. She just seemed like a different dog the rest of the evening and through the next couple of days. Not the normal, so exhausted she only wants to sleep, but more like she was not happy. I noticed when I unpacked her belongings that they didn't follow all of the instructions by what was sent back home. She didn't get her lunches most days or her bedtime snack every day I was gone. The longer I've been away from the situation, the more frustrated I've become wondering what happened to my poor girl while I was out of town. I will NEVER be bringing my dog back to Pooches Paradise! I also know quite a few neighborhood friends who have also stopped using Pooches Paradise in the last couple of years. Sadly not the place it used to be.
