I had gone through several trainers before I found Keaton and Mike. I adopted a 6 month old rottie/shepard mix and when we got him home it was a nightmare. He was my 10th adoption and we had never needed outside training before. I was in tears when I came to Keaton and Mike, worried I would not ever know how to control my new adoption. Josie and I started our training journey with Precision Dog Training Academy about 3 years ago. She has earned several titles under Keaton's careful guidance, including Star Puppy, Canine Good Citizen (CGC, CGCU, CGCA), and Trick Dog (TKN, TKI, AND TKA). Where to begin with the outstanding crew that makes up Precision Dog Training Academy. To set the stage we have 3 pups, all mixed rescues, ages 11, 7, and 5. Our youngest pup has had many behavioral challenges (walking in our neighborhood with other dogs being restricted by invisible fences, high prey drive, threshold management, barrier frustration, and poor manners). In Spring 2025, we knew that this was not the life we wanted for our dog and hit a breaking point. We had previously attended trainings (board and trains/private sessions) with our young pup where the behavior modifications never "clicked". Turns out it was the methods that were being used. We knew after our first meeting that this group was different. Expert trainers Keaton and Emily, as well as, owner Mike have vast knowledge relating to multiple approaches to training and modifying dog behaviors. A few highlights that have stood out in our interactions (a board and train, group classes, and private sessions) with them: they provide great examples with diagrams, run through ways to troubleshoot in "Real World" environments, model the training techniques to show timing or reward or marker, and provide education/feedback to dog parents on how to better communicate with one's dog. We've learned a ton and so has our dog. Very grateful to have found them. read more

TLDR: At precision, my dog attacked another dog and was returned to me underweight and injured. Our training goals were a resounding failure and I was charged for their services which did not result in anything positive for me or my dog. With cursory investigation you'll find the owners at precision formerly owned kc dawgz in OP where this kind of thing has happened at least once before. My recommendation is to not use precision for complex cases or anything beyond basic obedience. Mike will disparage all other trainers in the area as no good and posit that he alone has the knowledge and expertise required to train dogs well. The facility is clean and professional looking. I don't doubt that many people have had success at Precision. But based on my experience and observations I would not recommend them. My dog and I had a poor experience at Precision from start to finish with the board & train program. We engaged primarily to work with my dogs fear and aggression toward other dogs. I was desperate and felt (incorrectly) that I had exhausted all other options. - Told me we were g2g (twice) with medical requirements and then revealed we weren't at drop-off resulting in my dog being placed in a crate for 2+ days until I could have a fecal test completed. - Used a bark collar on my dog without my permission and in violation of my responses to the questionnaire on the client portal/pet profile. - When I picked up the fecal sample my dog was _in a crate and in their storage room_ exhibiting high signs of stress and anxiety via incessant barking. - Communication was poor. No daily log, no written documentation, or live feeds. Only an occasional 6 second video through text that comes through highly compressed. Only surface level reports--nothing about your dogs day, what was applied, when, & why. - Although I was informed Keaton was assigned primary to my dog he didn't speak to me a single time and I only heard from Mike. - If you try to communicate your needs are not being met you can expect hostility and an attitude that evokes "then leave". An example of outsized ego, or something. - After 10-12 days in and some alleged progress over the prior couple days, I was informed my dog attacked one of two dogs that were in a disagreement during play group resulting in severe injury for the other dog. My dog was kicked out of the program and I was asked to pick her up. - My dog came back severely underweight, losing patches of hair (presumably due to weight), neck damaged zero use of voice, and scabs/burns on all elbows. - I asked for a detailed write-up of the incident via email. Instead I received a vague legal-sounding explanation of events that told me almost nothing other than "something happened". Weeks later I asked again and while I received a new version with some additional detail it still did not include answers to the questions I asked. - From precision there was no follow-up, concern, recommendations, or care initiated with me after the incident. - I received a partial refund (after I followed up for it) and received a pro-rated amount with no detail about the calculation. - Beyond the physical state mentioned, my dog returned without any behavior modification and likely only worsened reactivity to other dogs. If you do even a little bit of research you'll notice Mike used to own KC Dawgs in Overland Park. There is at least one review there from a family on the receiving end of what my dog was party to. But their dog was allegedly attacked and killed by a boarded dog during a class they were participating in, and in front of the entire family. Despite what Precision will tell you, there are skilled trainers and getting lucky with a celebrity client isn't what qualifies one's professional proficiency. They talk a big game & present as polished professionals and yet my dog was returned to me with signs of abuse. It was another for-profit group (Canine Solutions in south JOCO) with similar services to Precision that referred me to the non-profit outfit I'm happily working with now (The Pet Connection). read more

Precision Dog Training Academy changed the life I had with my sweet Goliath. He was loving but uncontrollably exuberant and boisterous, really struggled at one year with bathroom training, and was extremely reactive to people and animals. I was at a point where I was not sure if I could keep him because he is very strong and I was not able to give him the structure, nor did I have the tools, to train him properly. I really did not even know if he was trainable - I had done another program, but it did not work. I did the 3 week program where he lived with Precision during this time. I came home with a different boy... he is 1000% a different pet. He is still loving, but I can now enjoy him - he is well behaved, bathroom trained, and I can take him outside without him pulling me down and dragging me around. I use the tools they sent me home with to continue to work with him and will do follow-up training with him so if you have a pet that is unruly or hard to train, I cannot recommend this team enough !! It will change your relationship with your pet and the quality of your life with them; I truly did not know it was even possible (he really is a big boy - St. Bernard and strong as can be), but I love my boy and thought this was worth a try and the cost. I was overjoyed by the outcome - this team truly is the real deal - dog whisperers!! They know what they are doing and spend the time and are dedicated to the well being and care of your pet.
