This park is amazing. If you look at all of the pictures posted for Kissena Park here, you'll see what it is all about. Not many people come here, but it is a great place to jog, meditate, sit, enjoy nature, and forget about all of your worries during the time that you're there. For those that are interested in hearing about what I didn't like about the park: - It is in the middle of nowhere. Maybe it isn't, and I'm just not familiar with the area, but there really wasn't much around the park except houses. What if I got hungry or thirsty and wanted to stop by a restaurant? - I came in with my friend (like a wrecking ball) from the Booth Memorial side of the park, and there seemed to be no sign that indicated where the entrance might be. It took us a while to find a trail that looked walkable and we thought we weren't going to make it out alive. Imagine trying to enter the park from that side at night time... pretty scary. - There's barely any room for shade. It was a sunny day today and I think me and my friend became 10 shades darker. Other than that, I recommend checking the park out. It's very big and fun to explore around. read more

Beautiful urban park. Rivals Central Park in many ways minus the annoying artists, food vendors, and tourists. From its quite entrance, to its well maintained lawns and trees, to its many lawns and other grassy areas, this is a nice, quiet place to spend a few hours. I try to visit this park whenever I'm in Flushing, and I always like coming down the long staircase to the pond. Kissena Lake is so tranquil, you will forget that you're in Queens and think you're away in another part of the state. Much quieter and more peaceful than most of the urban parks in the city. It is quiet, full of green, and a lot of animals. For me, this place mean quiet, and Kissena park definitely offer the silence you need when you are tired of the (too loud) noises of living in a city. Best kept secret in Queens. No urban peeps with loud music/bbqs or hipsters taking selfies here. This is a park for the sport minded as there are all sorts of courts and tracks. Also for the relaxing minded as there is fluffy grass to dig your toes into. Quite a walk to get to the entrance depending where you start so best advised to bring a bike. Definitely a lovely park with bike paths. Also at the end of Kissena Corrider Park which is across Kissena Park with Kissena Blvd to divide them, is lovely Queens Botanical Garden. Highly recommend this park and garden outing. read more

Grew up going to this park. I spent a lot of time around the lake mostly when I was young. A lot of great memories for me here. There are playgrounds, tennis courts, baseball fields, basketball courts, etc. Back when I was a little kid, I used to do some fishing with my uncle at the lake. There are only little fish in there but its fun just to catch and then put them back in. There are turtles and frogs in there too. I learned about that the hard way. A turtle or frog... dunno what it was... but something almost pulled me into the lake...good thing my uncle pulled me back before I fell in. Since then, they've put up some fences to prevent people from falling in. If you bring your kids here, be sure to keep a close eye on them. As an adult, I still love this park. Whether it is just to walk around or do some rollerblading around the lake, it is a great place to go and just enjoy the view and relax. Being here can help you clear your head of any stress you might have. I personally like to roller blade around the park a couple times. It is a smooth path for beginners to rollerblading. There is also a bike path along the outer portion of the park. It is only a portion of the NYC Greenway. I feel like an elderly person because I like to go to the lake and feed the ducks sometimes. It's a good spot to do some birdwatching. I'm sure you can spot some unique birds here. I've spent most of my life wandering around this park and I can't get enough of it. There is always something new to see. I hope the park gets even better over time and I hope all visitors of the park will help keep it clean. THAT IS ALL!!! read more

Growing up, Kissena Park was where my parents took me to feed the ducks, swing on the tire swing (which, much to my chagrin is no longer there), climb on the monkey bars, attempt to ride a bike, go sledding in the winter...all that good stuff that kids have to do even if they happen to be growing up in the city. In more recent history, my parents moved to within half a block of this beautiful neighborhood park that's quite a bit bigger than I realized as a child, and it's where I go to gawk at the ever-present old men playing bocce ball (they're there EVERYday!), run or power walk around the large lake, walk the family dog, look for clusters of sunbathing turtles or embrace my inner child and enjoy the swings in one of the park's recently updated three playgrounds. It's very much a park of the people--you'd be hard pressed to go for a walk and not find neighborhood folks practicing Tai Chi, or enjoying church picnics and volleyball games. Local guys practicing their fishing skills are also the norm. There are also plenty of ball fields, tennis courts, and even a special bike racing course--ie; lots to keep Queens residents busy and active. It's also where my family found our first doggie, as if I needed any more reasons to be exceedingly fond of this urban oasis. I had to take one star off, however, because they don't seem to host any kind of cultural events (unless you count local charity walks), and they could certainly use a fenced in dog run for all of the neighbrohood pooches to play in. read more

I'm a fan of this place. I was pleasantly surprised to see what a beautiful green space this is. It's a huge body of water, hiking/jogging trails, gorgeous trees, and plenty of option for physical activity. I had a wonderful time exploring this underrated park, which is unfortunately located 15-20 minutes for the closest subway station. Totally worth it, though! read more

This park has everything you could need. Go now! I'm close by to Kissena Park and love running here. During nicer weather it does get a little crowded and a lot of people don't seem to be concerned with courtesy in regards to controlling their pups and not taking up the whole path. Even still, the park is clean and I always feel safe. The pond offers a pleasant view with little aquatic critters to watch. Early mornings you can expect to see tai chi and fan dancing, there appears to be some fitness classes held around mid-morning, and in the afternoon adorable old men playing baci ball or shuffle board. People are always fishing in the pond as well. Throughout the park there are courts for all types of sports including tennis, baseball, and basketball and they've recently installed exercise equipment including a bench and bars. read more

I will always have a soft spot for this park in my heart as this is where I did everything as a child. I used to come here most Saturdays in the summer with my grandpa. I learned how to ride a bike here. As a teenager, I'd go skateboarding here. So I have many fond memories and I love it here. Now as an adult, I go running here. The parki is usually tidy. There are lots of animals around when the weather is nice. The lake is really beautiful to walk around and in the morning, there are alot of people exercising all around the park. It has nice trails, lots of playgrounds, little excerise contraptions, a bacci area, tennis courts and baseball fields. Its a beautiful and very large park. read more

There is a Velodrome here!!! I saw it on the news. I never knew. Came here a lot when I was a child after going to Chinese school/Church. Had class trips here and hiked some trails. I even had my driving lessons and test around this park. Used to fish in the pond with my dad here when I was a kid too... (I wonder if that is still allowed. We had to put the fish back after we caught it.) It is pretty nostalgic for me every time I pass by. I thought I lived far from here but I can check in! HAHA. I am reviewing the one side along Rose Avenue because that's the side I use the most. This park is big and beautiful. It also has all the facilities that you would need, like tennis courts, baseball fields, bike trails. My dog loves the area with the baseball fields. Besides playing there, it is one of my favorite places to go for a stroll. You can start walking in the wee hours of the day as the sun goes down and finish up with the pretty street lights all glowing and lighting the way. There are greater than one hundred reviews about Central park but my review right now is only the third one here of three. This is a place where I grew up biking through and ran around in. It is next to the NY Hall of Science where I showed off more than one project and I also enjoyed seeing the projects created to turn kids on to science. The bathrooms were always a little more clean than Central Park but now they are about the same. The Dragon Boat races are held here. King of Queens has an opening scene here under the big Globe. This park is equally as memorable as that one on the island. read more

Mission: To conquer the blizzard and not be confined in doors. Destination: Kissena Park One of the first people out at midnight to play in the 9 inches of pristine white snow. It felt absolutely amazing to try run through the snow and sled down the stairway that leads to the lake. (FYI: lake is not frozen, don't ask how I know.) Only thing that would have made this experience more magical was if I brought my snowboard. Well worth the 20 mph drive that took 35 minutes one way. read more

A basic park with a kids' playground, tennis courts, a pond and baseball fields. Though it's no comparison to Central Park and Corona Park but it's still a great park. The pond is the best part of the park (in my opinion). I like to walk around the pond with friends or just myself. A very lovely place. It's got everything you want in a park (basketball courts, baseball fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, trails, trees, grass) and none of the crowd; I think it could even rival Central Park in size. It's a bit difficult to get to, transportation-wise as I think only one or two bus lines stop near the park. A lot of the courts are buried deep within the park and take some walking to. Tip: Even though you need a permit to play on the tennis courts (one that will run you several hundred a year depending on your status), no one really checks here. Probably because no one wants to walk out there to check (it's one of the areas that is buried deep in the park). read more

Kissena Park - We came here briefly in 2000 (remember Y2K peeps?) to take wedding pictures by the lake. That was January, in the middle of winter, and it was cold, cold, cold! Since then, we had tried to locate this park, to no avail, it was because we were never in its vicinity. We moved to Kew Gardens a couple of months ago, but did not get around to exploring the neighborhood until now. One Sunday, my husband was playing with his GPS on his phone, and decided to explore this park he saw on his screen. Voila! A lovely rediscovery!! The lake were we had our wedding photos taken is as charming as it was 12 years ago, with and added bonus: turtles! Just where do they go when it gets cold? There are great paths for walking, running, biking, whatever your flavor. We recently discovered lovely hiking paths through the wooded areas - a nice get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city, or even Queens. A few steps and you are enveloped in forest, but not too far to get lost. Hiking that is close to home. I like that! We will return, in fact, now that it is warmer, it will be our go to for a bit of exercies and fresh air. It's gonna be a great summer! :D Here is some more information on Kissena Park. I've been visiting this park for over 25 years. I remember the days when there were actual fish and frogs in the lake and it was much clearer than today's nasty seafoam green. It looks like over the years the tree's and shrubbery have extended as far as inside the lake. It was never like this in the 90's. The lake was cleaned and maintained and the landscape never reached that far. In some areas it just seemed like they let it go a little wild. The grass is still in good shape and overall I think there's much less litter than the late 80's early 90's. The graffitti issue has also seemed to lighten up a bit. It's still a very enjoyable park to visit for a stroll or a picnic. I steer clear of the wooded area's. I don't even want to repeat some of the stuff I've seen there growing up. That is probably the dirtiest part of the park. There used to be abandoned cars there, all sorts of random trash, even mattresses. Occasionally you will get a chance to see some wildlife. A bunny or a bird at most, even the occasionally racoon or possum. There's no deer in the area. Horses used to walk along the trails across the street on the golf course side but I am not sure they still do. The tiny court the other yelper (Ashley) was referring to is bocce ball. There aren't many parks that have a play area for this old time sport but Kissena Park does. read more

From my early childhood to present, this has been the park I frequented. In the early days was the swings, slides, water sprinkler and the pond during the freezing winter when it was solid. As I grew up I explored and learn to appreciate this park even more. There are many paths inside you can stroll along and find people doing various activities whether it's fishing by the pond, sunbathing, practicing martial arts, taking wedding photos, tennis, basketball, walking the dog, biking, playing bocce and what I do the most: running. A loop around the pond is a little over 1/2 a mile. I usually run along the entire outside perimeter which is just shy of 2 miles. There's actually some history behind this park, apparently there were many different species of trees that were transplanted to Central Park when they were constructing it. fantastic place! playscapes for kids, basketball courts, nice lake where bass & carp can be caught, walking trails.... i felt totally safe there, and parking was very easy to find. lots of park benches and shade. bathrooms were pretty clean for a busy sunday (no TP on the floor of the mens room, and there was soap to wash your hands too!). there are also learning activities for the children in the summer run by the "rangers". definitely a place i will be going back to for studying. read more

very nice park in Flushing. i like that although it's right in the middle a semi-urban setting, the park is big and quiet enough that you feel far away from it all. living in Flushing now, i wanted to check out this park since it's so close to my house. right now at this time, it's gorgeous with the leaves changing colors (i'm from california, so we don't really see this back at home). i've also come here to run now... i like the trail that runs around the park, and also the loop around the lake. i also noticed that both times i was here, there were people maintaining the park. definitely a plus that the city takes care of its parks for its people. read more

This park is so romantic to me, if you come here on a warm summer night with a lover...perfect. This park is drama free so you don't have to worry about being here at night. It's quite small; I guess this is why it doesn't attract to many people, and in return wind up being over crowded. The bathrooms are decent so that's not an issue, and neither is parking. I've been living near this park for over 25 years. This place never get old. People may have changed over time but this park stay the same. I come to this park to bike with my mom around the lake and the mini hills around the park,take walks with friends, and play ball with the boys on both booth memorial & 164th street. 164th street basketball court is only 2 courts but it is usually not crowded. The booth memorial court is usually crowded but has 1 full court and 2 regular courts. This is great place for everyone friends and family. read more
