But the flavor was off. Coffee was strong and bitter. I did come alone. When I entered the hostess asked where I wanted to sit and I said a booth would be great. They weren't very busy for a Saturday at 12. She said, oh no, I can't do that, we can seat way more than 1 at a booth. I was then seated at the bar. At one point, one of the employees sat at a booth and wrapped silverware in napkins. It was nearly impossible to get anyone's attention for more coffee. There are so many people working here but besides the cooks and hostess, everyone else is doing a great job doing nothing. When I finally caught the attention of the young person who took orders to ask for more coffee, he said okay. Then I watched him go on his phone for a minute, pick up the coffee carafe and walk outside. He never came to me. I got his attention again and asked for coffee and he said, yes, getting more coffee for you right now and then could not have taken more of his sweet time. WILD behavior. Unfortunately they leave one of the doors open on the staff side so there were so many flies all over the restaurant. I also watched them use the microwave to heat food that was sent back from another table. Honestly, Gordon Ramsey would have a lot to say about this place.

Today my taste buds are thanking me for the mini donuts covered in bacon, maple syrup and confectioners sugar!! Oh my gosh, what a combo that is so scrumptiously delicious!! If you're history buff, I encourage you to read about the history of each of the train cars on their website. Though the business has only been around for a few years, one of the cars was built in 1906, and all of them have a unique story to their name. As far as the shop is concerned, it's a standard cafe with coffee, tea, and breakfast food options. With the addition of kava if that's your jam. The best part of this place is checking out the various train cars, all different with various types of seating options. We ordered coffees, sandwiches, and their self-proclaimed "world famous" mini donuts. The sandwiches came out piping hot. I was actually impressed with the bacon egg and cheese. Generous serving of egg, especially. Much better than the bagel spot around the corner! The donuts were good, but you really need to eat them right away while they're hot. Nice addition of the maple bacon, and solid portion to split between a few people. Considering a few places I enjoyed going to in Nederland have changed concepts, I definitely prefer coming to Train Cars Coffee and Kava. Looking forward to trying them again and seeing more of what they offer!

The only thing I didn't like as much was the hashbrowns, they were just okay. I also ordered the jalapeño bread French toast (recommended by our server). I love jalapeño flavor, but I remember thinking it sounded kind of weird for French toast... but I'm glad I tried it because it was so good. They make their breads in-house and I would definitely get that again. I also tried some of my friend's banana bread and that was really delicious too. Didn't get a chance to try these since we had to get to the hot springs soon so thought it's too much food to finish in time, but they had a French toast flight and a Benedict flight, which I've never seen before. Pretty cool, I love anything where you can try multiple flavors. Overall, would reccomend this brunch spot in Idaho Springs. Would come back!

We came in around noon-ish and they were busy though we were able to easily grab a table outside. Their menu offers both breakfast all day as well as lunch. I got their turkey BLT and my friend got their breakfast platter. Mine came with fries and hers came with eggs, choice of meat, choice of grits or potatoes, and choice of french toast/waffles/pancakes. Because of the aforementioned altitude sickness, I did not get to enjoy but a few bites of my sandwich there but had it later and find it to be a delicious, hefty sandwich. The fries were very good! I was jealous of my friends french toast as it looked delicious. She reported it was. As well as the bacon. Much like Idaho Springs itself, this is a cute spot. Definitely worth stopping in, as well as visiting the other businesses in their downtown area. Parking is scarce, but there is both a free parking lot, as well as paid street parking.

Cool looking place what's seems to be in the middle of nowhere. This dude greets us introducing himself as "Roy" the owner. He welcomes us and literally gives us the behind the scenes tour of the kitchen and the freezer. What can I say, when you get an unscheduled tour on a Sunday morning and the kitchen and surrounding areas are clean and organized that's a good place. This guy and his wife Barbra run it. He's super cool and self admitted a bit crude but fun nonetheless. He told us we could order anything even if it wasn't on the menu. Sunday everything on the special menu is $10. Next week he's doing a fried chicken buffet for FREE. He says once he didn't have anything and just like doing it for people. Excellent Food and Service in a Very Busy Estes Park Favorite…read more Executive Summary: A fantastic dinner with fresh, well-executed dishes, strong cocktails, and outstanding service. Easily a 5-star experience and highly recommended. We booked a 6:00 p.m. Sunday reservation through Resy and were seated immediately. The restaurant was very busy, which felt like a good sign. One thing to note: parking is VERY difficult. You may need to park kitty-corner at the grocery store lot and walk across. We started with the Beets & Bibb salad, which was outstanding--fresh, thinly sliced crunchy beets, crisp dried chickpeas for texture, grapes for sweetness, and a honey vinaigrette with just enough acidity to balance everything. The cornbread arrived warm and freshly baked with black garlic butter. It was light rather than dense and very enjoyable. For an entrée, the Carnivore was excellent. Both the elk and petite filet had a beautiful sear and were cooked perfectly to temperature, accompanied by a flavorful reduction and seared broccolini. Our second entrée was the trout with a side petite filet. The fish was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. By the end of dinner we were far too full to try the desserts, although they looked tempting. We also had a couple of cocktails--strong, flavorful pours. Our server, Ian, was friendly, efficient, and attentive throughout the evening. Excellent service despite how busy the restaurant was. Overall, Bird & Jim delivered great food, great drinks, and great service. Highly recommended--5 stars.

If they put more tomatoes it'd be delicious. Overall just ok. Kind of pricey for what you get.

This was my 3rd or 4th time going. Clearly, I am a slow learner, and forgave the experience but this was the last straw. The service is ALWAYS terrible and the food is even worse. I have ordered a different dish every time and everyone them was either cold (left on the cooks counter for the waiter too long) or bland or just plain bad! Last night I ordered tacos. It took forever to even get service, or our food, and there was 6 customers in the whole place. The food came cold but before I knew it was cold, I asked for salsa (it came with none) and took forever to come back. The moment they left for salsa, I took a bite and realized the food was cold (all of it, beans, rice, tacos). I had to go search for them to come back and told them it was cold. They had it remade (took forever) and they salsa was literally stewed tomatoes from the can. This time, the plate was scalding hot and the waitress gave no warning! Now, it was hot and terrible with canned tomatoes for salsa. Ridiculous and they still charged us! I will go to Johnny Z's but will not ever again eat at the Grill!
