The initial construction seemed very good but then there was no coordination of the subcontractors. The builder had a hard time remembering his different projects. Comments like "we will give you the good people today" when noticed things not done well and "oh, they did not do that?" when asked about a detail that was discussed but not done. I wanted all "good people" every day for everything! The electrical seems to be the worse. Subcontractors with "promised" help after built do not call back after many calls. My family has had to call our own subcontractors to fix the horrible work done by the builder's subcontractors. Only 1 year in the house with some steps crumbling, replaced many breakers since waking up to no power to parts of the house, and brown streaks coming from the gutters. All this after asking for repairs before even moving in. My family did not build on Davis Island (when asked where the builder was - "building his Davis Island homes") so I guess we got the "bad people". When the builder's wife writes reviews, think twice about the quality you're going to get. **Update* The homeowner and the builder have resolved their disagreements from the review dated August 28, 2014.

It was very short notice, but Carlos and his team was super responsive and very much professional. When Carlos came for the initial quote, I was talking to him about the floors being done too. He said, we can do those as well, only when you're ready. My husband and I spoke and we decided it would be best to do it at the same time. Carlos started the next day on both the flooring (took 3 days) and the paint (1.5 days). We will definitely be calling Handyman Express again. Thank you for being awesome and doing such a great job while being professional. Don't question hiring him, he is laid back in a professional manner and NOT pushy.

However, the workmanship was extremely poor, the communication almost nonexistent and the work is still incomplete. A year later we are still finding surprises. Our kitchen cabinets, while custom, were very low quality (contract states high quality). The laminate is bubbling now. The electrical was absolutely not to code, many ceiling and wall light fixtures were connected with wire nuts and shoved into the walls without proper electrical boxes (and the LED based ceiling light fixtures included a proper enclosure as part of their assembly ). One outlet under a cabinet does not work (even after an electrician came out to fix it). The electrical wiring in two other cabinets are not properly routed through electrical conduit. High voltage electrical was run through a low voltage panel and connected with electrical tape. The kitchen range hood was mounted way too high and a drawer under our stove is broken and does not close properly because it hits a gas line. They fixed the closure issue with a tight 90 degree bend in the gas line. Drawer is still broken however There are several areas unfinished or shoddily completed. We recently discovered our freestanding bathtub is not fastened rigidly to the floor. My Handyman Express has had over a year to address most of these issues, a few were discovered in the last month or so. A lawyer helped us get some attention, but many issues are still not resolved. Last thing we heard is that Carlos has not paid the cabinet people, but he also has not fixed our cabinet issues either. Instead he is blaming the cabinet makers. Which is fine, but the GC and needs to solve this for us. And besides the cabinet makers didn't do the electrical and other finishes. There's no accountability as far as I can tell.. Stay far away from this company.

We chose R&L Handyman, Inc to do the total renovation to our home. They put in new windows, new flooring through out they renovated both bathrooms and installed a beautiful new kitchen cabinets and had granite counter tops installed , they installed a beautiful tile backsplash. They added counter space and the finished product was like the pictures you see in modern home magazines. They installed window framing on all the windows, new baseboards thru out the home. They installed new planked flooring thru out and installed all new light fixtures and ceiling fans. Also new front door and a rear door with glass panels. They installed lighting under the kitchen cabinet's, they totally painted the entire interior on home and also remodeled the laundry room. The textured all the drywall and ceiling thru out the home. The upgraded the insulation in the attic and repaired some AC ducts. The converted a hall closet that was off the kitchen and made it into a walk in pantry. We are extremely satisfied with the way the home reservation turned out and our home looks like a model home. The owner and his men were very professional and polite. They keeped the work area very clean at all times and always showed up on time. They did an outstanding job and their pricing was very good. I refer them to any friends or business associates that are planning any type of upgrading or in need of repairs done to their home.

My parents house needed several large projects quoted, we needed to decide which ones were highest priority. Their response time was quick! In fact, I had reached out to 6-7 contractors and R&L was the first to respond as well as the only contractor to follow through on a promised quote. He quoted every repair we discussed during his initial walkthrough and I received a quote that day via email. We chose to start with the ceiling repair, the back porch repair and rescreen, and painting the exterior of the house. The communication throughout the entire process was spot-on through text and calls, I tried to be respectful of their 'off-hours' and they were respectful of my 'work-hours'. I never felt that I had to micromanage the work because I was always notified if something came up that was unexpected. They even offered to leave their dump trailer at the house over the weekend so we could clean up some of the clutter that had accumulated over the years in the back yard (such a blessing). They were thoughtful and considerate, fairly priced, and efficient. I was so pleased with their work at my parents house that we also contracted them to paint my sister's house! I plan to reach out to them again for work on my own house next, it's hard to find a reliable contractor and when you do finally find them you don't ever want to let them go.

I was only going to have two sheets of 4'x8' plywood over my well pump, but they built a whole roof with braces (trusses) out of 2"x6" 10' treated wood. It should handle any hurricane or storm that central Florida can handle. I will hire them again on my next project. I was short some wood, they even drove to my nearby local lumber yard and picked up my order since I couldn't fit the 10' long 2x6 in my SUV. They cleaned up the area afterwards. Suggested what to paint too. It was covered by a strong plastic tarp to keep the two sheets of plywood covered.
