If you are looking for salty food and expensive drinks, this is the spot for you! The interior decor was minimal but effective. Their Red Rose wall is definitely a perfect place for a cute photo op. The drinks were cute and strong - presentation is really their true speciality. However the food menu is very limited in my opinion but I guess It keeps the food cost low. The menu consists of: Catfish Salmon Chicken Crabs And sides... I even thought the side options were limited. If you are vegan, this really isn't the spot for you. I had the "Catfish & Grits" ($35) and my friend had the "Stuffed Salmon w/ Dirty Rice" ($39). This place is really nice! They have a bar area that offers lots of different drinks. They offer lots of seating for an amazing dining experience. Seats are really comfortable! Service is super fast and the waiter was really helpful. You have to scan the card on the table with your phone to see the menu. I started off with the margarita flight and they were really tasty and strong. For an appetizer I got the trio. It came with three jerked lamb chops, a crabcake and two deviled eggs with shrimp on top. If you like a little spicy the jerked lamb chops are on point and the way to go! Overall very impressed with Kitchen Kocktails. I was there with a party of 30 to celebrate a graduation on a Thursday evening and they were prepared and ready for us ahead of time. The servers that were assisting our tables were fantastic. They were efficient, patient, and so friendly. Our orders came out quickly and all the food was delicious. I had the trinity eggrolls for an appetizer and the fish and grits for entree. The trinity eggrolls were so different but the flavors all came together very well. The grits were creamy and fish was well seasoned. The best part about being there on Thursday was the live band. The live band was FANTASTIC! They really set the atmosphere and was perfect for those celebrating occasions. The singer did something special for each person who was there for a birthday or other celebration. I gave this restaurant a visit as it's been about a year since my lackluster experience. I really enjoyed it and will return. First- the positives! During lunch, it was a nice sized crowd; however, I was quickly seated. The waitress was very attentive, friendly, and helpful and she suggested a few new menu items. The food and drink were A++. I ordered the chicken, red beans and rice with a side of macaroni. Perfection. The mid: my order came a bit slower than desired. Also, although the chicken was amazing, it was just one small wing- no subs allowed. The not so good: the restaurant had a slight odor when walking in- it could have been from it being a rainy day. Also, the chair I should have sat in was filthy and worn. J ended up switching out the chair. Finally, the prices for certain dishes are insane, but the food was delicious. I visited with friends on Sunday for brunch. We had a reservation for 1:30pm but it still took another 20 mins to get our table. Ordered some cocktails and they were flat and the table water smelled like sewer water so we asked for some bottle water. I ordered the fish (fried hard) and grits, it came out good. The fish was alittle salty but it balanced out the grits. Also if you are looking for coffee products this restaurant doesn't have any. The waiter was very attentive and positive, which we loved. The hubby and I came here on 4/4/2026 at 1pm (we had a reservation). We were seated upon our arrival and entered a lively dining area, with a DJ in the corner playing great music. When we entered, one of the staff greeted us and said "welcome home" when we walked by, which was a nice touch. Service was slow throughout our dining experience, but she was friendly and got us what we needed when we were able to wave her down. Service is an area the restaurant should work on. The food is the area where this restaurant shines; everything we had was delicious! I got the catfish and grits, with a side of macaroni and cheese, and my hubby got the oxtails over rice. Our favorite thing was the macaroni and cheese; it was flavorful, cheesy, but not overly so, and it is definitely something we will order again. My besties were in town and my mom suggested we try Kitchen + Kocktails after the "young people" at her job raved about it. I'm always happy to support Black-owned businesses, but I hadn't heard great things and, unfortunately, my experience didn't prove otherwise. We had a 6:15pm reservation since my mom needed to be nearby by 8. She arrived slightly before us and was initially told there'd be a 15-20 minute wait, though thankfully she was seated by the time we arrived at 6:18. Menus are QR code only. For drinks, I had the espresso martini with tequila, while others ordered the blackberry margarita, strawberry jalapeño margarita, and the honey bee . We weren't starving, so we shared salmon bites, jerk lamb chops, Kajun stuffed salmon, collard greens, and candied yams. After ordering, we waited nearly 30 minutes before asking about the food. That's when we were told the kitchen was extremely backed up and that there were seven orders ahead of us. I understand delays happen, but this should have been communicated when we ordered, not after. I've also since heard this is a regular issue. Because of the delay, my mom had to leave without eating. When the food finally arrived, it was tasty--but the portion sizes were very small for the high prices. DC is expensive, sure, but the value just wasn't there. The restaurant itself is large, but the décor felt gaudy, the furniture cheap, and there weren't even enough chairs for every table. Once my mom left, they literally took her chair to seat another table... Our server was kind, but again, better communication would've helped. We even saw another table sit down, order drinks, and leave--likely after learning about the kitchen backlog. When my mom briefly shared her experience with a manager on her way out, they barely acknowledged her and never came over to our table to apologize. We still paid full price. Zero stars -- extremely disappointing experience It was a busy Saturday night, and we were looking for a restaurant for a group of four. Most places were fully booked, so we were pleasantly surprised when this restaurant offered us a 7:45 PM reservation. We arrived early at 7:30 PM and were told it would be about a 30-minute wait, which was understandable. However, after 30 minutes passed, we checked again and were told they would call us. The waiting area was extremely crowded -- to the point where it was uncomfortable to even stand there -- so we stepped aside and sat at the bar, making sure the host knew where we were. After more than an hour sitting at the bar, we followed up again, was told is not ready yet and after two hours follow up they told they had "called us three times" and gave our table away. This was frustrating because we had clearly informed them where we would be. After going back and forth with multiple staff members, they eventually said they would seat us -- but even then, we waited another 10+ minutes in an overcrowded space before finally being seated. Unfortunately, the experience did not improve. The food was nothing special, small portions and the service was poor. The worst part happened at the end of the meal. While clearing the table, a waiter spilled shrimp sauce all over my dress and jacket. Instead of apologizing, one staff member denied responsibility, and another offered a dismissive solution of sending it to the dry cleaner -- without any real acknowledgment or apology. I was not interested in chasing them for dry cleaning; I simply expected basic professionalism and accountability. At that point, after everything that had already gone wrong, we decided to leave. To make matters worse, we were not the only ones -- another group nearby also had a reservation and was seated over an hour late. When we sat at our table there was a bowl of greens on the table. The chairs were dirty. The food is overprice and just okay. The side portions definitely don't warrant the price. And they were out of yams. How are you out of yams on a Sunday at 6:30? Some of our party ordered a glass of Cabernet thinking it would be a house wine and when we got the bill we found out they were $30 glasses of wine. That's ridiculous!!! The server should have said something. The place is loud so you can't hear anyone talk. Let's start with the positives: it's Black-owned, offers valet parking, has great drinks, and the vibe can be very cool. Now, the reason I gave it 3 stars is mainly because, while hanging out with friends on a Saturday night, the place also seemed to double as a teen hangout. My party arrived around 8:30-9:00 p.m., some adolescent groups even had VIP sections. This might be part of their family-friendly atmosphere, but it wasn't the vibe I was looking for on a weekend in DC. My first experience with K+K was in Dallas. Trendy restaurant with high energy, live DJ playing lots of Beyoncé, & vibes. Food was outstanding. Our large group seemed to buy everything on the menu so I got to sample a lot. Back home, I visited the DC location a few times and always had a great time. We had a Friday night rezzie & found the restaurant buzzing. There was an event in the private room & we got to witness a surprise marriage proposal!! So sweet! During this visit, I ordered my fav dream eggs w/ blackened shrimp for starters. My neice was enjoying her D'usse and I had ginger beer. After considering all the mains & specialty items we went for the chicken & banana pudding waffles (specialty) & shrimp and grits. I appreciated the option of selecting white or dark meat versus dry chicken tenders or only dark meat that a lot of places offer. The food came out fast and my neice gave me a waffle to try. All the food could be featured in any lifestyle magazine. Our server was a sweetheart & the photographer came around. While enjoying the vibes, our server came over and politely informed us that there a 90 min limit on the table. I didn't remember this from my previous visits. She offered the downstairs as an option to continue the evening. Once downstairs, we sat down as a band was setting up. Ten min later, a guy came over to ask if we're were with his party since he reserved all the seats directly in front of the stage. The surrounding booths were also reserved. We felt displaced and decided to leave. Shorter visit than I preferred considering I just paid $24 cash to valet less than 2 hours prior to our departure. Perfect for date nights although I was there with my family. There were also large groups which were easily accommodated. We were immediately seated on the main level as we had reservations. But be advised that you'll have a gap and need to lean forward. In my opinion, some of the drinks are expensive ($29+). I'm used to cocktails in metropolitan cities and I am not a cheap person. Nice spot along I street. Some might find it more on the pricey side especially for drinks but the food was really good. I had the shrimp & grits and I was in there scraping the plate. It well well done and the shrimp was nicely cooked. We also got the peach cobbler which isn't layered as they like scoop it out of the pan but that didn't bother me. That was nice also. The waitress was pleasant and the DJ was good. They had a flower staircase almost but the lighting sucks there so unless you have a professional camera, all the photos will look bleh. I have never requested a new server, in my over 2 decades of dining out, but it happened at this establishment. It is quite sad because I do not like to down certain businesses because I like to support my own, but I also will not let them provide horrible service and think it's okay. So we arrived at 3:40 PM to get the lunch menu being offered. The space is nice, typical new age, trying to be hip type of atmosphere with a flower backdrop to take pictures. The seating is standard, nothing special, but comfy. We were seated promptly, as I had made a reservation. Our waiter came over, we asked for a few minutes then he stepped away, came back about 5 minutes later and took our drink orders. I ordered the rum punch, and my fiance ordered some purple drink. We then told him to give us 5 minutes to pick our food options. This man disappears for 15 minutes into the back. He comes back at 3:58 after I had to literally waive him over personally. He comes, and we place our order. My fiance orders the gumbo for appetizer, chicken and waffles, I order the lunch lamb chops with a side of mac and cheese. I specifically state lunch because I did not want any confusion since it was about to end, as he had disappeared for a while. He repeats the order back to us, then disappears into the back again. Someone brings our gumbo like 5 minutes later and we start eating. It is now 4:30 and we do not have our drinks and this man is nowhere to be found. I have finished my water, there has been no refill of the water and no drinks brought to the table. At the same time, we have 2 tables seated after us, they have received their drinks, have had their water refilled more than once and we cannot even find our waiter. He comes out around 4:40 and does not even come to our table, he's just dealing with everyone else, and again, I have to hail him over. He comes and I tell him the service so far has been poor because we ordered the drinks over 40 minutes ago and it has not come yet. His response is, "I don't make the drinks, I just bring them to you," with no sorry or apology. So I respond, "that's fine, but we also have had to drink all the water as a result of no drinks being here and you have not been around to refill it." He goes, "I'll get you some water." Again, no apology or anything. So I call for the manager and ask for a new server. I also tell him everything happening and he gets us a new server. The food comes, and it is the dinner lamb chops, not the lunch. This option costs more than twice the lunch one, which I believe was 21 and the dinner being 47. So I let them know that this is not what I had ordered, so before I eat it, I want that to be clear. They decide to take off the side of mac and cheese and the gumbo to compensate. I don't think both of those two items equate to 26 dollars, but I just say okay, as it has already been over an hour since we had been there and the idea was to grab a quick lunch since we had other engagements. The food was fine, nothing to write home about, then the bills comes. Clearly, if I have requested a new server, the experience has been terrible, so to then tack on a mandatory gratuity for someone who has complained about the service is egregious behavior. I paid it and promptly exited the establishment, never to return again. I would not even consider giving any other location a try because the 3.6 rating it has on Yelp is too generous. If I could give it a zero, I would. To be paying over $100 for lunch for mid food and horrible service is not my idea of dining out, and the tone-deaf responses, from the server up to the management, especially for forcefully including gratuity, tells me all I need to know. If you believe you are offering good service, there is no need to force gratuity on people. Clearly, they are not, and that is why it is included. And I would have been empathetic if the place was packed. But, nope, there were may be 5 other tables seated, all with different servers, so there was literally no excuse for terrible service. The ambiance is nice with great neon signs and very earthy effect. The service was amazing, at least our waitress Kamira was excellent and very helpful. I can say honestly this spot doesnt miss. I've been to K&K about 5-6 times and they just get it right.... well except for the one time I paid $30 for a glass of wine - another story for another day. With the exception of my last visit, I always sit at the bar for HH with my co-woes and a time is always had. The energy is good, music great but low enough that you dont have to speak loud to carry a conversation and the staff are just... chef's kiss! From the bartenders to the wait staff in the main dining room (Hey Julius!) - they are just relaxed. Accommodating, knowledgeable and can rib with the best of em cause we STAY on joke time. I LOVE the catfish strips - some of the best I have ever had - always hot and fresh and perfectly fried. the deviled eggs with shrimp are fantastic and the fried pickles surprised me with how good they are. Now for what you really care about, drinks were amazing. Smoked Gold Fashioned had a nice presentation and great flavor/well balanced. Hennessy Side Car was FIRE! If you like strong drinks and Hennessy you will not be disappointed. Margarita flight was ok, not very strong and a little sweet. Strawberry Jalapeño Margarita was FIRE! Onto the food. Lamb chops cooked perfectly. Nice grill but I didn't taste a jerk flavor. Eggs were eggs, but the blackened shrimp were really good and the crab cake was FIRE! I enjoyed the stuffed salmon. It was a little well done, but that filling is FIRE and it blended well with the cream sauce and dirty rice. Everyone said they enjoyed the catfish and grits and the chicken and waffles. Those trinity eggrolls were a pleasant surprise. I would not think MacNcheese greens and sweet potatoes would work in an egg roll but they were actually really good , compliments to the chef on that. We ordered a cocktail to start. The cocktail took a good 30 minutes. It was excellent. Two of the smallest $15 Cesar salads you've ever seen. Which btw had what tasted like bottled Italian dressing. The croutons were good. But the salad did come out right away. We then waited a good 50 minutes for the server recommended fried chicken it came out cold and wasn't good. The side of Mac and cheese was also cold and when a fresh one came out, it also wasn't good. Be aware, they will charge you an extra $3 for the sauce and it may not be the sauce you ordered. They did comp one of the fried chickens and the Mac and cheese. Be aware that there is a 90 minute table limit, which they remind you of when they confirm the reservation and there is an automatic service fee, which they claim is 20% , but mine was somehow 27%. I wasn't sticking around to argue with any of it. I was tired and needed to get home to walk the dog. Oh and there are no physical menus. They want you to scan the QR code to see the menu and look at your tiny phone with dwindling battery and mixed cell phone reception. Maybe it's me, but a restaurant of people constantly on their cells, it just brings down the level of class for me. Not to mention, the security issues these days with reading QR codes. Fish and Grits and Shrimp Po Boy . I a gave 4 stars this time, yes less star this time but not because the food is below my expectations. The service was very slow. It was a holiday MLK Bday and hardly a hand full of people coz it was still early. The server was nice but we always had to look for him and he actually got the food wrong. We didn't say anything about it. But bc they were taking so long w my waffles we cancelled it so we can go. We were already done eating. But he gave it to us anyways on to go as we walk out. First visit and I loved it ! Came from out of town for a conference, looked up places near my hotel. Thought the menu looked really good. Met up with a friend and she asked me what I wanted. I described the menu and she mentioned the restaurant instantly! I came early in the evening, so there was no wait. The hostesses were so friendly! When I sat down, I got to take in the decor, but also this place is soooo huge. Even with a beautiful lounge downstairs. I smelled catfish so I felt like I had to get it. The collard green dip caught my eye, so I made sure to get it. Both were sooo good. Definitely would recommend. The catfish and grits portion was definitely generous. Probably 2-3 portions worth. Heard so much good things about this place, so I decided to try it out on my visit to DC. I went around 9PM because I heard they play a live gogo band later on in that night in their downstairs lounge area. The gogo band was the highlight of my night. The food was decent. Service was very nice. I ate at the bar and the bartender was super helpful. The mac & cheese was my least favorite, but I absolutely love the cornbread and the jerk chicken. read more

Alright so bet! This is an upscale eatery in DC that serves comfort/soul food! We decided to stop by for brunch. Let's start with the vibes! On 1000? I think yes! We were in town for the Delta Sigma Theta National Convention so we literally packed out the place! It's so beautifully decorated and detailed! This place has two floors, one at ground level and one below ground. From what I saw, there is 1 bar upstairs with plenty of seating to eat and one bar downstairs with additional seating. Upstairs was packed so we followed a wall of red roses down the stairs where we were greeted by Mima, Dre, and Amir. Not only did they give us their recommendations from the menu but they were very personable. We talked about current political events and fun things like music and karaoke! Now, let's get to the Kitchen + Kocktails. Drinks are a bit pricy. I got a margarita flight. It comes with peach, strawberry, blackberry, and lime. I subbed the strawberry option with peach since I am allergic. They were good. I just wished they were a bit stronger for the price. Now the food. I have never had a crab cake in the DC/Maryland area before this visit. Amir recommended that we get the crab cake. Baby when I tell you this crab cake knocked me out my socks! I will never look at a west coast crab cake the same way. The crab was so fresh and just melted in your mouth! I didn't want it to end! 100/10 for sure! For my main dish, I got the catfish and grits. The creamy sauce on top was a little thin for my liking but the flavor was on point and the fish was nice and crispy!
