Such a vibe! I was originally considering this place for a birthday brunch, but I couldn't quite get a feel for how they accommodate larger parties, so I decided to check it out for happy hour first. We were not disappointed! The happy hour menu definitely delivers. We tried the Quiet Crab, chicken sandwich, shrimp with mumbo sauce, and fries. The Quiet Crab was the star of the food lineup. Absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. Unfortunately, the happy hour portion only comes with one because I definitely could have eaten more! I would also love to see a basket of regular hush puppies on the menu because they absolutely nailed that combination of sweet corn flavor and a crispy outside. And the music? Sultry, sexy, and exactly right for the space. The playlist was giving Afrobeats, smooth vibes, and grown-up happy hour with tracks like Burna Boy's "Vanilla," Tems' "Ordinary People," Asake's "Organise," JayO's "High Heels," and "Wahala Riddim." It added so much to the atmosphere and made this the kind of place where you want to settle in, order another drink, and stay awhile. Now, the Beltway Mule made by Kennedy was THE star of the evening. Delicious, perfectly sweet with just the right amount of spice, and very fitting for my hometown of Washington, DC. Speaking of Kennedy, she is an absolute gem! Her energy and mixology skills really made the experience. If you can pull up when she's behind the bar, I highly recommend it. Kache was the final food stop on the For the Culture DMV Food Tour, and overall...it was decent. The food was decent, the service was decent, and the general manager was pleasant. He's also a sommelier, so he personally poured and explained our wine, which was a nice touch. The chicken and salad we were served were actually pretty good. But after some of the disappointing dishes at the previous tour stops, I honestly found myself wondering...was it really that good, or was it just better than what I'd already been eating all day? Either way, I cleaned my plate. The space, however, is TINY--both upstairs and downstairs. The outdoor dining and bar area is much larger and definitely seems like the better option when the weather cooperates. And listen...after a full food tour, I absolutely HATED climbing those stairs! It also made me wonder how guests with mobility challenges are expected to navigate this space. Seriously...how are some of these restaurants accommodating ADA accessibility? I came here for an evening event. The ambiance was lovely. The patio with a bar and amazing DJ made this place an ideal location for drinks and bites. However, the wait for drinks was absolutely unacceptable! I waited 40 minutes for my first order and an hour for my second order. There are two bars, 1 upstairs and 1 downstairs, and they were both overwhelmed. The customer service was definitely lacking. It was my first time and I like to give restaurants more than one try but with the price for drinks and lacking customer service, I doubt I'll be back soon. read more

Our table ordered the calamari and crab hush puppies for a shareable. It was precisely delectable. The hush puppies were bite sized but included a good amount of crab, they were 3 in the order. The calamari was great! There is a nice kick in the sauce that blends well. For the entree, we ordered the shrimp po' boys and Flip A Bird (Taiwanese fried chicken). I'd say there were no trays needed to box up! My entree the Flip A Bird (Taiwanese fried chicken) came with a sauce of Hot Honey and it complimented the dish well. Although, it did not need it. We continued our tour of DC happy hours with a trip to Kaché on a Wednesday night. We arrived a little before 5, so it was only us and another table of 2 at the restaurant. The staff were super attentive and we found out that the restaurant has only been open a few months. Because it wasn't that busy, the hostess spoke to us for a bit. The bartender also brought us a drink to ask us what we thought of it. We ordered one of each of the $5 happy hour specials and added on a warm cabbage salad. The salad needs a rebranding, but I liked having some charred veggies to balance out all of the fried stuff. My favorite item on the Happy Hour Menu was The Sweet Spot (crispy shrimp). After eating all the appetizers, we added on a Smoke & Stack burger. This was by far my most favorite part of the meal. A very large, juicy beef patty, cheese, garlic aioli on a soft potato bun. What puts this over the top is the cooked down onion jam. It's like caramelized onion deluxe - I think I could put this on ice cream. Fries were really well cooked. But right in front of me was this comfy couch that wasn't reserved... so I waited for my buddy there. In doing so, I looked over both the happy hour menu and broader menu. Because their address is 510, they have $5 food & $10 drinks, which I think is clever. Let's dive into what I got: Okay, so there's only five happy hour bites, so we got them all. Quiet crabs: crab hush puppies basically. PERFECT. K Street fries: truffle fries... good! Bird's da Word sammie: ooooh they shouldn't have puut gochujang on there, it was TOO GOOD. Sweet potato flatbread: mind you, it has a spread on top, the flatbread isn't made of sweet potato. But was it good? No. It was PERFECT. The Sweet Spot: TASTY tasty shrimp. We celebrated my little one's 11th birthday here and all had a wonderful time! This restaurant is super cool in many ways. It's a bit eclectic in the diverse music it plays on the playlist and the flavors of food. The decor of the walls made it feel like I'm transported to a new world. And the food was very fun and unique, good for foodies! And last but not least, exceptional service! To be fair, we were there for early dinner/ happy hour on a weekday so there weren't many other patrons, so they were super duper nice to us. It made my daughter feel special on her birthday. Every dish here had some twist to it. The owner explained that she wanted to bring the world of flavors together in one place. My favorite items were the Quiet Crabs (hush puppies), the Sweet Spot (crispy shrimp), sweet potato flat bread, and the cookie dessert that I forgot to take a picture of. Our waitress brought our burger over with the glazed onion sauce on the side because she wasn't sure my kids would like it. And she was totally correct. My husband and I loved that sauce so we used extra for our bite. I like that all the staff were super thoughtful in doing things like this! We were seated in the upstairs lounge area, which offered a more intimate vibe. The seasoned chicken was very delicious and paired beautifully with a colorful pickle salad that added a refreshing balance. The dish was paired with Kaché, a Black-owned white wine. I am not a wine drinker, but the others in my group shared that the wine was smooth and paired well with the dish. The General Manager was friendly and knowledgeable, taking time to explain the dish and recommend the wine pairing. The dining experience was okay. The setup included bar seating, stools, and small tables with small plates, which made the space feel more lounge-style than a traditional dining experience. All of the food was very mediocre, despite not getting to try the flatbread, which they were out of--this was particularly perplexing because the menu is fairly limited. The cabbage was . . . Interesting it has the potential to be perfect but there's something on top that makes the dish extremely bitter and it over powers and takes over the taste of the cabbage. The Brussels were good they do have a bit of spice to them and grapes but it's not a bad mix at all just be prepared. The sweet potatoes were also good ! The mocktails are delicious here. Visiting Kache during their soft opening and I had good time. The food was the star of the show. The Taiwanese fried chicken was excellent. Perfectly seasoned and cooked. The servers were nice but needed more time with the menu, but that can be developed with time. It was a good vibe in the lounge area upstairs with a bar and good music. The vibe downstairs was different. More quiet and isolating than the rest of the restaurant. I did however like the coat check option, as the lounge area upstairs didn't have much seating let alone space to check your coat. There were lounge seating along the wall, but the seating across from the lounge seating was a low chair stool, which wasn't the most comfortable for long sitting periods. Let's start off by saying, as someone who grew up in DC, the city has really morphed into a place where you can truly experience what it means to be an adult with top-tier dining options--and Kaché DC fits right into that evolution. We came on a Wednesday night and from the moment we walked in, the staff was warm, welcoming, and attentive. The décor is very appealing--super cute and stylish. A few of my dining companions are on the taller side and requested chairs with backs, and the staff happily accommodated without hesitation. The bartender was amazing. He crafted custom cocktails for us and even named one after my friend--so when you go, ask for "The Byron," smoked. You won't regret it. I had the Secret Garden Refresher, and it lived up to its name: light, crisp, and very refreshing. We started with the K Street Fries--crispy, well-seasoned, and absolutely delicious. We also tasted the Hey Mambo, which is their unique take on calamari, and we loved the mambo sauce. The Quiet Crab is a winner too--thinking it was going to be more hushpuppy than anything, we were pleasantly surprised that it was packed with crab. 10 out of 10, highly recommend. For entrees: * Mimi's Po' Boy (shrimp): The bread was soft, the shrimp were fried to perfection, and the remoulade added the perfect balance of flavor. It also came with fries, which were a great complement. * Smoke & Stack Burger: Cooked exactly as requested, super juicy, and paired perfectly with the fries. It was devoured--no crumbs left behind. The dinner menu has additional appetizers and larger entrees with unique and creative twists on flatbreads, burgers, chicken, and more. This has become my new happy hour spot. Five dollar food options and $10 drink options. You really cannot beat that in DC. Everything wants to charge you, the arm, the leg, the back, the neck, the hair, the nails. Staff very knowledgeable shows that they know what they're doing what they're talking about they care. The sommelier very nice gentleman that definitely knows his wines. Had an amazing Malbec blend that I had to go pick up myself. My favorites are the K St. fries with the truffle aïoli with a federal flower drink one drink is typically you're good to go, but of course your girl never stops there. She always does a bit too much so I end up having several so I would say the margarita is also good but like I said that wine to the blend must try parking. Based on social media I was expecting something I didn't get, what I did get was an okay dinner, prepared questionably and mediocre drinks. We had the: 1. K Street Fries: 8/10. best item we ordered but could have been more generous with the Parmesan. 2. Flip a bird: 5/10. chicken was extraordinarily hot temperature wise. It also just didn't taste as if the oil was fresh. We opted to try the hot honey and mambo sauces on the side. The hot honey was unremarkable and the mambo had a unique, vinegar taste but was pretty good. 3. Crab Yew Tew: 6/10. Needs a thicker sauce to really bring the pasta together. It felt like something you make out of what you happen to have in your house at any given time. The crab serving was not skimpy though so they get points for that. 4. DC Tap Water: 10/10. Tasty scotch cocktail. Ambiance: brow raising. This is a typical, tight DC space, so the designer chose to give some tables a BEAN BAG as seating. That is just not sustainable for adults looking to dine for an hour or so comfortably. There was a DJ playing R&B while we dined, so it did get a bit loud. We came during Happy Hour and they have a great deal! To drink we tried The Federal Flower and Cherry Blossom Fizz and one mocktail -- Secret Garden Refresher. We shared a few starters including The Mambo and Quiet Crabs (highly recommend!). We shared Flip A Bird (MY FAVE ON THE MENU), Crab Yew Tew, She Said, and Crispy Business. For dessert we ended with Sticky Toffee Cookie which blew us away. This is a phenomenal place and will have to check out their R&B nights soon! She ate the orange from my orange peel then put her hands in my drink while it was in her mouth. She was literally holding on to it with her teeth before she started to twist the peel, then plopped her hand in without washing it. Multiple people saw and were flabbergasted. We asked her to remake it, which she did, but as we watched her after, every drink after had her hair l in it. She then tried to charge us for more than we spent. A solid 3.5! I've been here twice now. The outside patio and bar area is great and I've enjoyed sitting there both times. The happy hour menu has great prices and generous portions. I truly loved the crab hush puppies and I would recommend them to anyone. There are only two but they're very rich and absolutely delicious (no skimping on the crab). The chicken sandwich had great portions but the chicken was soft/soggy - I prefer a crisp fried chicken so that didn't hit for me, and the bun was a bit sad/dry. I was hoping for a bit more heat in the sauce since it mentioned gochujang. The sticky toffee pudding was a major miss for me. The cookie was hard and dry, bland, and served lukewarm. I was hoping for warm and gooey. Especially for a sticky toffee pudding-based dessert! The whipped cream on it was really good but the sauce was sickly sweet and missing salt across the board. I would be willing to go back to try some other mains and to order the happy hour crab hush puppies again, because those are special, but I wasn't impressed overall by the quality. Worst experience nothing was safe not even the water! We came to check this place out to celebrate HU graduation based on the rating. When we got there the fans/ac was flowing and my whole group was freezing. The water we received taste like murky tap water, after exchanging it for the federal flower and then trying the "lemonade" I just went with a cup of ice. We ordered all of the happy hour specials and the branzino. Everything sounded delicious on the menu but each item was bland and severely under seasoned even the "garlic truffle parm fries" taste like hot out the grease fries and parm cheese sprinkled on it . The Brussels sprouts was cooked nicely and loaded with some sauce, grapes and nuts but was not seasoned very well. Even the branzino looked nice but underwhelming as there were no seasonings and spices. After being disappointed one plate after the next I told my waiter to cancel the other appetizers come to find out she didn't submit them to the kitchen because at that point I was ready to go to McDonald's. I've got high hopes for this place. The happy hour menu has around 12 items between food and drinks, and I ordered almost everything. Very flavorful, with a sauce that had a little heat and sweetness to it. I was genuinely surprised by the size. For $5, I was expecting a slider, but this was a full sandwich. My favorite food item was easily the crispy shrimp with mumbo sauce. The sauce had a serious kick, and it came with these cucumber slices that tasted lightly pickled with chili and vinegar. That combo was elite. I also grabbed the fried chicken to go, paired it with the truffle gravy and hot pot sauce, mixed them together, and yeah... that was gas. Drink-wise, the margarita was my favorite. Perfect balance of sweet and sour, not overly tart like a lot of lime margaritas can be. I also tried the fed flower, which was solid, especially if you're into gin. The mezcal mule was the only miss for me. Not bad, just way too much ginger, so I passed it to my plus one. The only thing worth noting is service speed. We were literally the only two people in the restaurant since we came right when they opened, and while drinks came out quickly, the food took a bit longer than expected. Not enough to knock off a star, but something to keep in mind if the place gets busy. Overall, I'll definitely be back. Our waiter, Darwin, and the GM, Mucilina (hope I'm spelling that right) were extremely friendly, helpful, and attentive. Definitely made us feel more than welcome. Saw that this place was new and wanted to give it a try. Went on a thursday night and got seated right away. The food was really good and interesting, everything had a pretty unique twist. The crab hush puppies (Quiet Crabs) were really good, a little bit sweet like a hush puppy but not too much, and full of crab. My other favorite was the "Flip a Bird" fried chicken, we got the truffle gravy sauce with it and it was really delicious, had a pretty unique flavor but not too crazy. The burger and crab cavatelli were also really good. The onions on the burger were delicious. I had the Capitol Hill cocktail and it was also a great twist on a classic drink, the smoked rosemary spring added a really nice touch. I really hate leaving bad reviews. We had a party of 7. The service was just ok and the waitress started off fine but then had an attitude when we asked for our drinks whixh we could see where sitting on the bar for 10 minutes. It was an espresso martini and 2 bottles of champagne. Not a very complicated order and it sat for 10 minutes. This is where the attitude started. It was only one bottle of champagne so when we asked for rhe 2nd bottle she said o its coming. It's 7 people one bottle of champagne is done after you fill 5 glasses. The next bottle came 20 min later. The food was fine, portions could have been larger. The biggest issue came from the bill. When she arrived with the bill we asked was gratuity Included she said yes, no problem. They had a tap to pay option no printed receipt. When we paid they handed us a printed receipt whixh had the 20% gratuity like she said, however there was a other 20% charge for large party. So in total 40%, 40% is criminal! The never mentioned this, so almost half the bill was fees. If you are charging a crazy large party fee let people know and of so make sure the service matches that.
