Sly is a great rooftop HH situation, connected to the Morrow Hotel in NE DC. They have excellent views, lots of natural light, and great customer service! My favorite foods on their HH menu are the truffle fries and the salmon ceviche. I liked their sangria a lot also. I dropped by here last week for a bday party and the rooftop was a vibe! There was a great DJ spinning, lots of places to lounge and sit (both indoor and outdoor) and the views of the city from each section of the rooftop patio were top notch. I came here after dinner so I didn't get a chance to try any of the food, however all of the food that a friend of mine ordered looked pretty good! It is very loud inside when there's a DJ, so if that's not your thing, definitely sit outside and enjoy the views! This rooftop is located inside the Morrow Hotel, and after visiting, I can definitely say I need to book a stay there next time! Now, let's get to Sky Rooftop. I was originally leaning toward a 4-star experience. The host wasn't the warmest upon arrival--she seemed to have a serious resting face--but she did smile and was polite. As I watched her interact with other guests, I realized that was just her demeanor, and she treated everyone kindly. Our server, Jose, was friendly overall, although there were a few hiccups. I initially ordered regular fries but changed my mind after my wife ordered the truffle fries so we could share. Unfortunately, he had already placed my order, so the regular fries still came out. It wasn't a huge deal because they were actually delicious--fried perfectly crispy--and Jose was very apologetic about the mix-up. My sister made a Happy Hour reservation for six people, but our group ended up growing a bit larger. Thankfully, it didn't seem to impact the restaurant since there were still plenty of open tables both inside and outside. The mocktails were really good, although I wish they included at least one on the Happy Hour menu. It always surprises me when restaurants don't offer a Happy Hour option for guests who don't drink alcohol. Everyone else in our group enjoyed their cocktails, and the food received great reviews all around. Now for the frustrating part. As people started leaving our table, several guests had already been there for only about 30 minutes, received their individual checks, paid, and left. There had already been three separate checks issued. Later, when I asked Jose if my wife and I could have our own check, he told me they could only split a bill a limited number of ways. While I understood the policy, it had never been explained when we were seated or when my sister made the reservation. A server who was assisting our table suggested a simple solution: since only three cards could be used, we could label each item on the receipt with numbers 1-3 and match those numbers to the last four digits of the corresponding credit cards. That sounded reasonable, so we did exactly that. After waiting a while, I got Jose's attention and started explaining what we had done. Before I could finish, he interrupted me and, with a bit of an attitude, repeated that he could only split the check three ways and that we couldn't simply pay for our individual items. That was frustrating because if that had been clearly communicated from the beginning, we would have handled everything differently. Instead, I ended up putting the entire bill on one card since coordinating multiple people had become more complicated than it needed to be. To make matters worse, our bill also included three extra sangrias that we never ordered. Since I don't drink, I didn't notice it immediately, and by then everyone had already sent their payments. I spoke with the manager, who was polite and listened, but I don't think he fully understood my concern. He focused on explaining reservation policies and that groups larger than 10 people need to book through their events team, which I completely understand. My point wasn't about the reservation size--it was about communication. If everyone on the staff had been on the same page about the payment policy from the start, the entire situation could have been avoided. Overall, Sky Rooftop has a great Happy Hour, delicious food, tasty drinks, and absolutely stunning rooftop views of DC. This was nice and cozy place for Happy Hour after work. The staff were nice and accommodating to our party of four. They were even able to split the check amongst us to ensure we paid for our individual items. The burger was filling and the fries had a zesty spice which added another level of flavor. The oysters were fresh, the truffle fries were crispy, and the ceviche was yummy and included a side of plantain chips. Everything was a nice portion and reasonably priced for HH. I visited Sly for happy hour, and it was just an ok experience. While the view of the city is beautiful, the service left much to be desired. We ordered small bites and it took an hour for the food to arrive. Note that we didn't order extravagant, time-consuming dishes. We ordered oysters on the half shell, truffle fries and ceviche. The oysters were your standard Blue Points. I'm generally not a fan of Blue Points as they lack brine, but I ordered them anyway. The truffle fries were decent; I loved the sauce that accompanies them. The ceviche was mediocre and I didn't like Sly's rendition of the plantain chips. A spice was sprinkled on them that I didn't quite like -- I can't put my finger on the name of the spice. I also had a virgin mojito. For a virgin mojito, it was pretty damn good! I love a lot of carbonation, so I asked for extra club soda. I would get that again. All-in-all, just an ok experience. I wouldn't choose this as a place to patronize, but if invited...sure, why not. Came into Sly for a midday Saturday happy hour on valentines day and I loved everything. I feel like it really goes to show that you should always give somewhere a second shot. When we arrived there were maybe 10 people in the restaurant. We wanted to sit outside because it was a beautiful day and the team was accommodating making sure everything was clean and comfortable which we were out there. The sparkling wine we got was smooth and even better because it was half off the regular priced wines. The empanadas were flavorful and I loved the dip that came with. The ceviche had great flavor and a little bit of a kick. They provided plantain chips to eat with it however they kept breaking so we just used our forks I would definitely come back for the ceviche. If you make a reservation ask to be on the rooftop make sure you ask to be on the M street side facing North looking towards the capitol. Let's get into it! Jerk Lamb Flatbread- Delicious! Cesar Salad add Salmon - LOVED it! Steak Frites w/truffle fries - Those fries were amazing! The steak was just okay, it was undercooked. Drinks - Perfection! Finally, my consensus? Would I come again? Probably only because it's close to my office but with the amount of options you have to keep trying other places especially because D.C is saturated with spots. I love a good rooftop vibe and Sly is DEFINITELY a vibe! I've been a fan of Michelin rated chief Marcus Samuelsson since he opened "Marcus" inside the MGM National Harbor many moons ago. Well, he's taken over the Morrow Hotel located in the NOMA district of DC, with two creations. "Marcus" on the ground floor and "Sly" on the Penthouse level of the hotel. Our server Erika was amazing. Fully engaged and oozing with personality. She's the polar opposite of an entrovert.. Lol! The rooftop is awesome. You can either eat inside the contemporary dining area, or the outdoor patio that has several tables to take advantage of the DC views. On to the food. The lamb flatbread is freaking awesome!!! She loved her salmon, however, the steak frites were just ok. The presentation was on point and the truffle fries were addicting, but the 12oz. NY Strip was served warm not hot and it was medium rare not medium like I requested and honestly, it wasn't popping with flavor. I ate half and took the rest home without complaining. The wait time was a little long, but our fabulous server apologized for the inconvenience and spoke to the Chef to hurry things along. It looks like Sly changes it's menu periodically, so we'll be back the next warm day to partake in this relatively new DC slick spot!!! read more

My latest visit to Sly didn't go the smoothest. I am torn between 3 and 4 stars here but I'm hoping that it was just a bad day and that things will be better next time! First off, they put us in the blazing hot sun and the staff member I asked about it said very curtly that moving umbrellas was "impossible." Later we saw different staff moving umbrellas for other patrons.... Fortunately we were able to move to a shadier table when another party left, but then we didn't get any attention from a server for more than 30 minutes. The server was extremely apologetic when we finally did get service but they were out of several flavors of mimosa and took an hour for my friend to get a glass of reisling, they ended up giving us some bill concessions to make up for the hiccups. Once we got drink and food, everything was good. The mimosas are great here. We all liked our food and found the portion sizes generous. My friend said the avocado toast was outstanding, I hope things improve because I do love this place! read more

Food pictured is the Dry Aged Beef DOUBLE burger and fries and the Chicory Caesar salad with Salmon. You be the judge on if the salad is overdressed. The salmon was cooked to perfection and the beef was flavorful AND the meat to bread ration (for you burger aficionados) was on point. The sauces and juices did not break the bottom of the roll and every bite had meat and bread. The fries were also on pint. Saw multiple orders go by with just fries on the tray. Rooftop views tell me at night the place is popping. My server didn't want to be there. Or at least it felt that way. When asking for a water refill, he refilled my glass with warm water. Yes I said WARM. He did not feel the pitcher that had been outside in 85 degree heat to determine if that was appropriate water. That was a turn off. If you are looking for great views and vibes - Sly Rooftop is definitely a must. Located in the Morrow Hotel in the NoMa district, I came on Friday night to meet up with a friend and was immediately amazed by the views of this place. It gives a very sophisticated vibe and great for a girls night or date night. We ordered an array of dishes from blue cornbread, prosciutto & salami board, and spiced shrimp cocktail. Everything was so fresh and delicious, definitely great shareables for the table. The stand out dish was the blue cornbread. It was a warm cornbread with savory chive butter and a spicy sweet honey. It came with 2 small loaves that were soft on the inside with that slight crunchy exterior. Also, for my cocktail I had the paradise heat which was a spicy tequila based drink. It was slightly fruity but balanced from the smoky mezcal. I wish I was coming back for the 4th of July to view fireworks from this place! read more

We had two of the specials, the fried fish sandwich and the hot honey fried chicken bites, and from the regular menu we had the crab croquettes. We loved EVERY bite. I was baffled by the 3.5 overall rating for this place, but if you go by food and food alone, 5 stars all the way. As others noted we did notice the wait; it took a bit to get our drinks. I enjoyed my time on the rooftop of the Morrow hotel. The space itself is open and inviting and the outdoor patio has cool views of Union Station and some of the other great hallmarks of DC. The Jerk Lamb Flatbread was the star of the show. The lamb was perfectly cooked and the seasoning was amazing. It certainly had some heat but the other toppings on the flatbread helped to cool it off with more amazing flavors. The oysters are only two dollars on happy hour which is a good price point but not the best oysters. I also didn't like Slys version of the mignonette, would have rather just had some cocktail sauce over their version. The Doro Wat empanadas weren't as flavorful as I thought they were gonna be but the sauce that comes with it was pretty good. The drinks were decent. We were excited to grab bites and drinks at the Sly bar as we love restaurants/bars by Marcus S. We unfortunately were underwhelmed by our drinks so much so that we opted out of ordering the food we initially intended. It took a while to get our drinks and seemed as though we were forgotten about. When the drinks arrived they were watered down as if they sat for a while. We then flagged down a bartender to swap out the drinks. At that point my mocktail was essentially pineapple juice only no lime juice, honey or berbere spice. The sweet heat cocktail was provided as a replacement for the old soul. An hour or so had passed by the time our drinks were straightened out. While the music and the afro beats vibe was great the Amtrak horns served as a contrast. Not sure that I will return. I came here for happy hour with a couple of friends. We sat outside on the rooftop and the view was nice but it was a bit more breezy than expected. Our server was very friendly and accommodating. The service was excellent, and even though the weather wasn't ideal, the views of the Capital were truly stunning. I flew to D.C. for a belated Mother's Day dinner, and with my daughter living nearby, I was excited to finally visit this restaurant, especially as a longtime fan of Marcus from his Food Network days. The highlight of our meal was the blue corn bread and the charred shishito peppers. The peppers came with a flavorful cream sauce drizzled on top--so good that I'd recommend paying extra for more of it. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal didn't quite live up to expectations. The chicken skewers lacked flavor, and the texture of the meat was so soft that I kept checking under the light to make sure it wasn't undercooked. The mac and cheese had an impressive cheese pull and creamy texture, but sadly, no flavor. Thankfully, the truffle fries with garlic aioli were a hit and ended up saving the meal. Given Marcus's reputation for bold, masterful flavors, I expected more from the mains. Unfortunately, my experience at Sly Rooftop was very disappointing. It took about 15 minutes before anyone even came over to our table, and when someone finally did, the service felt completely unorganized -- I didn't have a dedicated server, and multiple people just came by at random. I ordered a Hugo Spritz and was brought a Sangria instead, and when I ordered a half dozen oysters, I received a full dozen. The oysters themselves were discolored, had a pungent smell, and overall didn't seem fresh. I actually ended up feeling sick afterward. Because I had a train to catch, I didn't have time to speak to a manager in person, but I called the next day and was told that a manager would get back to me regarding a refund. I followed up again and was told a different manager would reach out -- but I never received a call back. At this point, the lack of accountability and poor food quality are unacceptable, especially for a place with such a beautiful rooftop setting. I'm a huge fan of Marcus Samuelson so was very excited to check out Sly at the Morrow Hotel...lucky for us my friend Staci snagged a rooftop reservation which only enhanced our experience. We started the evening with Red Line Remedy cocktails, cornbread and ceviche with plantain chips. The ceviche was fresh and acidic but not spicy and they paired perfectly with the plantain chips. The cornbread portion was small for the price and the chive butter was different but it was good and I'd order them again. For my main I had the jerked lamb flatbread and split a farmer's salad. The flatbread was good but saw pepper and thought it might be spicy...it wasn't. The salad was really tasty and I enjoyed the vinaigrette but again I think for the price the portion was pretty small. I have to give a special shout out to our server Erika. Her bubbly and personable manner along with knowledge of the menu were the cherry on top to a fun evening out. We also appreciated her checking in after each course and round of cocktails arrived to make sure everything was to our liking. Visited sly for the first time with friends from out of town and was very disappointed. To start, the views from the rooftop were the best part of the visit. First, we ordered drinks - neither myself or my boyfriend liked paradise heat and I'm not hard to please when it comes to cocktails. The mango overpowered, it tasted like mango puree and tequila. The martini glass in which my drink was served came to me sticky as if it had spilled and no one bothered to wipe the stem. Our server was not attentive at all, we had to flag her down on several occasions to let her know about drinks. We provided her feedback on the drinks, but she didn't offer to make them over, just noted that other guests said they were good. She was more interested in standing at the bar watching the bartender make drinks and talking to him, which meant she had her back to us the entire night. My boyfriend ordered a second drink - Silk - which also was not good. Our food took a long time to arrive, and the restaurant was not full. By person, our reviews of food were as follows: burger was good, branzino was good, salmon was SMALL but good, salad that came with it was not good, and my order for a medium steak frites came out close to well done and TOUGH. Fries were good, but a 12 year old can make fries, babe. The sauce that came with the steak frites was REALLY good. But the kicker is, the server NEVER asked how our food was, so there was no opportunity to provide any feedback. But the automatic 20% gratuity, which is my minimum anyway, explains why she put so little effort into serving us! I ordered a crispy chicken sandwich last night, and the chicken was not cooked. When I bit into it, it was pink and rubber‑like. I told the server, and he brought me another one, but the second sandwich had the same issue. It's unbelievable that the chef didn't cook the chicken properly -- it's dangerous to serve undercooked poultry, and it can cause food poisoning. I only took a few bites and swallowed them, and afterward I felt a little nauseous.
