We ordered the pork pot stickers to share. Then we also ordered sticky ribs, chicken sando and egg drop soup. The server took our order and returned promptly with our drinks. After some time passed the server returned to inform us the ribs were sold out and provided us with a menu to look at other options. A little more time passed and then more bad news the egg drop soup was also out of stock. We declined on ordering anything else and I asked if my chicken sando was still coming and was told yes it's on it's way. Meanwhile we watched three other tables arrive and place orders and even receive their food and yet my chicken sando was still missing. I flagged down our server and again was told my chicken was coming. Another 15 minutes passed and still not sandwich. I politely flagged down our server and requested the check as our lunch experience had gone on for over an hour now and still our food was incomplete. We got an apology and the bill and began to exit. As we were leaving the server arrived at our table with a takeout bag with my chicken sando. I'm not sure what was happening on this visit but something felt very off at the Drunken Kitchen. First impressions are very important especially in a dining experience and this first impression was not good at all.

After staff recommended on Yelp that I try the Lotus Delight with vegan chicken next time, I went online to order it. The website said they were out of vegan chicken, so I called to ask if I could get tofu instead. They told me I could just write it in the order notes. At no point--not on Yelp, not on their website, and not over the phone--was I told there would be an upcharge. The online system showed the option without any price tag, making it look like a standard modification. When I got there, I was rung up for an extra $5.44 for just six tiny pieces of tofu, bringing my total to $25. For context, the base vegetable and rice dish already cost $20--the same price as dishes that come with protein. To make matters worse, their physical in-store menu lists adding vegan chicken as $3.00, so being charged nearly $5.50 for a tiny amount of tofu is excessive. Surprising customers with hidden fees after they specifically ask about options is poor service. I'd like a refund for the tofu, or I'll just do a chargeback for it. Either way, I won't be coming back. Update: I received a refund for the tofu, as well as a personal phone call!

The rib pieces were braised in a soy and star anise sauce like what you find in Taiwanese beef noodle soup. The peels potatoes were cut rustically and just cooked through and not mushy. Authentic flavors and freshness like this is so so hard to come by. I can taste the quality of the ingredients used. One tip I have for selecting authentic food is by looking at the customers. If the customers are all Asian eating at an Asian restaurant, you know the food is going to be good.
