This is a no frills, charm less restaurant. If you were ordering for delivery you could probably overlook some of the issues. Came on a Sunday night an hour before they were closing and they had just two people working there - one out front and one in the kitchen. I stood at the front desk waiting to be sat for 2 minutes. I saw no one working there. The waitress finally appeared but was bringing out food and busing tables so I had to wait to be sat in an empty restaurant. Once sat I waited almost 10 minutes for her to take my order. Went with the fresh spring rolls which were the saddest things. It was mostly iceberg lettuce and a chunk of tofu in a wrap (cucumbers were missing). The Pad See Ew was better. Big portion for $16 but had literally 4 pieces of broccoli. I went to the bathroom and the door was locked (you need a code to enter. Again couldn't find anyone working there so I eventually went back to the kitchen asking for the code, she told me to wait. So I waited 2 minutes for someone to appear and let me in. There were lots of tables that needed busing. The waitress was nice, but no customers should be subjected to what's going on here. My mother in law and I were in SLC for my doctor's appointment the next day. We wanted something clean and good to eat. We also wanted the venue to be close so we can walk to the restaurant from our hotel. Staying downtown, we didn't know what the parking situation would be like. Walking seemed like a smarter choice so we didn't have to deal with a parking garage. Thai 101 was 10 minutes away so we walked our way there. It was 5 p.m. when we got there. It was pretty chill since it was early. We got sat at a booth by the big windows. Water and menus were dropped off. It took my mother in a law a minute to decide on what she wanted. Our server was kind and gave us a few more minutes. I decided on chicken with mixed veggies with extra veggies and shrimp. My mother in law got pork and mixed veggies with brown rice. We were both hungry and excited to eat! Our food came out pretty fast! Both of our dishes looked amazing! My portion was huge since I didn't want any rice. I subbed for extra veggies and they didn't disappoint. My meal came in a huge ass bowl. You can see the variety of fresh veggies. The chicken and the shrimp looked great! Everything about my dish was good! Well, almost everything. All the veggies were cooked perfectly. It still had a slight crunch to it but not undercooked. The shrimp were bouncy and tasty. I got a great amount of chicken breast! I do wish the chicken was velveted. It was on the drier side. The sauce was savory and much needed for the chicken. It also would have been nice if they would have thicken the sauce. It was quite watery so I'm happy i didn't get rice with it. I enjoy a thicker sauce with my rice. I did eat my whole bowl and didn't feel an ounce of guilt for doing it. It was all healthy and filling. Our server did a great job checking up on us! Another gal that was working also asked us if we were good. They were both really kind. The venue is pretty and nicely decorated. They pushed out a good meal for us tonight. So when I got in, it took about 7 minutes to even seat me. Once I got seated took another 7 minutes before they came to me to take my order. The wait for the food wasn't bad but when they brought me my pineapple fried rice with chicken there's literally hardly any chicken. Like literally the smallest amount of chicken. And they don't even check on you when they dropped off the food. I would have loved soy sauce. Honesty do yourself a favor and don't come here. It's not worth it. 0/10 - I don't recommend read more

The spice level was perfect 1-5 and chose wisely folks lol. The fried rice and chicken was flavorful and just what I wanted. I ordered this on DoorDash tonight, and it was really good. They had everything packaged nicely, and it was still warm when it arrived. It was ready fast. I got the cream cheese wontons and pad Thai. My husband got the red curry and sticky rice with peanut sauce. The cream cheese wontons had some spices in the mixture or something and it added a good flavor. They had a good crispness to them and I enjoyed the sauce that came with them. The pad Thai had a really good flavor and texture to it but was a little bit on the softer side for the noodles. My husband really enjoyed the red curry. He said the peanut sauce was some of the best he's ever had and it went great with the sticky rice. I can't speak for the Diet Coke here or what it's like going in to the restaurant, but we really enjoyed the flavors and would order again. Great take out option. read more

I want to like this place more and have been here multiple times while traveling. Location is great in walking distance from lots of hotels in DT SLC. Inside the restaurant is always super clean well kept up. Food is always good but be forewarned their spice level is on a whole new level. I got their 2 the time before last and I could barely eat it. This time I had the 1 and much more manageable and I can handle spicy food but just be forewarned. What brings it down is just straight service. While friendly it's so slow and to get anything takes forever. They do a ton of take out business and I think takes away from the walk in customer. This could easily be a 5 in my option but until they hire some more people and staff up this place it will never reach its full potential. read more

I whole-heartedly enjoyed dining at Thai 101, that is, until my tummy started rumbling... (it's the spice and my stomach doesn't allow certain levels of spice). First, the parking. I was a little nervous that we would not find a parking spot since this was close to the downtown area. Driving in, they are in a little plaza with dedicated free parking spots! That is what gives this review an extra star rating. I didn't have to splurge on my parking spot before entering the restaurant. My very favorite item on their menu was the Drunken Noodles. Usually at other Thai restaurants, this dish tastes like the Chinese dish: Beef Chow Fun -- something my dear Grandfather used to make -- but I want THAI flavors! I gave it a risk and ordered the Drunken Noodles with tofu here and W-O-W, I was in shock how good it was. I don't think I could get this dish anywhere else anymore, as it will not line up to my taste buds. The thai basil-y essences with some good fried tofu and spicy spice... MMMMPH!!! A level 2 was said to be "MEDIUM" spice, on a scale of 1-5 (5 the spiciest). I believe it. It was the perfect amount, perfect flavor. Now as I sit on the toilet with stomach and booty pains from my body not accepting the spice, I can still state that I do not regret ordering it at all and will happily be back for more! read more

Just a fantastic Thai food experience. Highly recommended. Since they opened, I have been intentionally staying at the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown whenever (regularly) I am in SLC so I can eat here right next door. Always fresh ingredients that give bright, clean flavors. Great but balanced spice when you ask for a 5! I have a new appreciation of Thai food after eating here 5 or so times. It is quiet, clean, inviting and spacious inside. It is a bit sad to see it is so quiet during the weekdays. This is an undiscovered gem! read more

I next enjoyed the chicken satay which was a meal in itself. Huge - I mean huge portions of chicken perfectly cooked and extremely tender and they actually tasted like chicken. I order delivery from here for the first time, so I didn't take pictures because they don't look great in the to go boxes. I ordered the red curry with shrimp, the crab fried rice and the tom kha soup. Everything was delicious! The crab fried rice has Dungeness crab in it, so it's pricey but it is really good and had a nice amount of crab it it although it wasn't a huge portion of rice for the money. They do use DoorDash for delivery so the prices are higher due to that also, so keep that in mind if you order delivery. I would have rated 4.5 if that was an option, but gave them a 4 because of the prices per portions. I will try them again most likely. read more

I don't like to spend too much time on the negative so let me just say the service here was not good...the server checked in and filled my water once. The napkins were made of a kind of cloth that doesn't absorb? I know, strange! Most importantly the food was haphazard and not well put together in the case of my spring roll...the noodles with shrimp I ordered; the shrimp was intensely over cooked, dry and jerky like in texture. I guess it curbed my hunger but I'm going to put this restaurant on forget! Lastly, in terms of ambience, I didn't get a particularly strong or pronounced Thai culture vibe but perhaps that's not what they going for despite being a Thai restaurant... at least the restaurant was clean and on a positive note had a couple of nice pictures/painting adorning the walls. read more

My wife and I were in Salt Lake for a concert and had a late lunch. I had the Drunken Noodles with Chicken and my wife had the Vegetable Stir Fry with Chicken. We came to eat here after a long travel day from California, and were pleasantly surprised! We called them around 8:30 to ask if they would still take us in since they close at 9 and the lady server there was nice enough to allow us in. We got the red curry, pad Thai, drunken noodles, papaya salad, fried rice, and mango sticky rice. Every dish was delicious. Hilariously bad experience. Walked in to the smell of mold, sewer gas and some sort of very strong air freshener spray. We waited 10 minutes to get drinks, the waitress was very rude and was ignoring us. After about 10 minutes my Mom started getting very nauseous due to the smell and we brought it up to the server. Her response? "You can leave. Go. Just get out if you don't like. It's fine". Threatening to kick us out because the smell was so bad is questionable. The Green Curry was flavorful and just the right spice level for me at Level 2. My buddy got the Chicken Pad Thai at Level 3 and said it was a little excessive. We also got the Fried Chicken Wing appetizers that were crunchy and came with a savory-sweet sauce. The wait staff did take a little longer than we would like oftentimes just standing waiting to be called over for service. The service and interior are both very good. I ordered the crispy basil with short rib - $27. The dish is bit oily, a lot fat on the short rib. The vegetables are fresh and tasty, unfortunately they don't really cook the string beans. They are still RAW and Raw. They have had a really rough week, they were robbed earlier this week and tonight a group of people tried to dine & ditch, which ultimately led to a kind waiter getting assaulted. Seriously how do people do this to a local business ill never understand. We got the chiang mai khao soi which was incredible! We got a level two spice which was the perfect amount. Their thai iced coffee & thai tea were so refreshing as well. Hands down best Thai food in Utah county. Everything is so flavorful. The fish cake tasted like it's from real fish not some flour mixed imitation stuffs. The Tom yum is very flavorful with a slight hint of a unique fragrance that makes the whole Tom yum soup special and good. The crab fried rice was surreal, the perfect wok hei combining with the umami flavor from the crab, omg, I can't stopped smiling when the flavor burst in my mouths. It was unbelievably good.
