James Speros We had our kitchen cabinets re-doored, added some new cabinetry, all new hardware, hidden under counter trash/recycling bins, added convenient sliding draws, and replaced a rather dated lazy susan. Mike Hurley and his team of the Kitchen Tune-Up Newton, MA franchise performed all of the work. They did an absolutely amazing job in three days. The guys showed up everyday at 7:30am and worked non-stop through the afternoon. Mike and his team, which included Darrin and Ricardo, are truly master craftsmen who really care and take great pride in their work. If something was off by even a fraction of an inch, they would adjust It to make it perfect. Re-dooring and using the existing cabinets is a great way to go as it is extremely cost effective and saves you from going through weeks of construction hassle. Kitchen Tune-Up replaced our upper cabinets, re-doored our lower cabinets, replaced all drawers, and added a new pull-out trash/recycling bin, and installed a new kitchen island with butcher block countertop. We first used Kitchen Tune-Up, Newton, MA in 2008 for a redo of our kitchen counter top and cabinets. Last summer, we used them again for a new counter top for a rental property. If I sat here all day, I would still be unable to find a single bad thing to say about Jane and Allen, and their Kitchen Tune-Up business. The owners are former button-up, corporate types who left their careers to pursue their passion for home renovation. They're both detail-oriented, professional, pleasant, very bright individuals, who are a pleasure to deal with. Our experience with them on both jobs was the same: they assessed our needs, sold us on exactly what we needed and requested, patiently answered all of our questions, followed up on every email and voice mail, and ultimately delivered quality work, on schedule. Oh ... almost forgot to mention this ... A few months after our first job, a tile installer scraped one of the new cabinet doors. When Allen came by to assess the damage, he ended up performing some cosmetic sleight of hand, rendering the damage all but invisible. Even today, six years later, you have to look closely to find any evidence of the scrape. He did not charge us for this work. We could not have been happier with Kitchen Tune-Up, and would not hesitate to use them again, or recommend them to anyone. read more

We decided to have our kitchen cabinets painted rather replaced. We used a local cabinet painting company who removed the doors and drawers to paint off-site, while leaving the boxes in place to be sprayed on-site. Well, upon re-installation, some of the drawer fronts and doors were not level, some of the drawers were difficult to open and close, and some of the cabinet doors jumped when open and closed. The owner of the painting company didn't really see a problem with the re-install, but sent out a handyman, then a cabinet installer to try to appease me. Both failed to fix the issues. Before settling up with the painting company, I told the owner I was going to find a true cabinet professional to take a look at the cabinets. Enter Allen, from Kitchen Tune-Up. Allen absolutely saw the issues. This would be a very small job for the company, but Allen agreed to take it on. This is what Allen and Darrin found to be the issues: a pantry door was re-installed in the wrong holes, the wrong length screws were used to re-install another door, ball bearings were missing from drawer glides on two drawers, and a couple of doors had slightly bent hinges. Really??? In addition, the existing adjustment screws on the doors just weren't used correctly to make the fine adjustments necessary on a few other doors. There is doing a job and doing a job right. They make it as easy as possible to have work done to your house, especially if you need to accommodate work commitments, etc. If they did more than kitchens, I would have them work on our entire house. read more

Allen and Jane were wonderful to work with. I came to them after a particularly bad experience with a kitchen designer and was discouraged that I wouldn't be able to have the kitchen I wanted within my budget. They made the process very easy and I always felt they had my best interests in mind. Their crew was wonderful and very neat! After the cabinets were in, I thought the grain on a group of drawers didn't match. They were incredibly responsive and insisted on redoing the drawer fronts, even when I was willing to settle. I have heard so many horror stories about kitchen renovations (and almost had my own with my previous designer) so was pleasantly surprised that this all went so well. I would highly recommend Allen and Jane. In addition to being responsive, knowing their stuff, and never pressuring me to do more than I wanted, they are also incredibly pleasant people who are just nice to be around. read more

I had such a great experience with Jane and Allen! My kitchen was relatively new (2007) and totally functional, but the builder's basic finishes always drove me crazy. I reached out to Kitchen Tune Up to see if they could make my dream kitchen a reality. I am a person who is addicted to design blogs, so I had very specific ideas about what I wanted. I wasn't sure Kitchen Tune Up would be able to help me, as I assumed they were a business more suited for a more traditional remodel. I was wrong. Although I didn't know going into it what exactly I wanted to do, after speaking to Jane and Allen, I decided to go with a redooring in a custom color (they can create a color match of any color you want!) and have a separate company paint the boxes. I also wanted a few cabinets removed, a wine rack replaced with a cabinet, and my raised bar counter converted to a counter height bar. Kitchen Tune Up handled all of that, including a giving me a reference for a painter with whom they had worked, and coordinated the timing of the job with the painter without me having to worry about it. I also went through them for my new quartz countertop. I don't know if I could have gotten a better deal going direct to a stone yard, but knowing Jane and Allen would be the ones to schedule and attend the templating and install was worth whatever extra money I might have paid. The kitchen turned out so beautifully, better than I every even expected! What I appreciate the most about working with Jane and Allen was the level of professionalism they exhibited with me. They responded to questions so quickly, were early for every appointment with me or with the countertop company, protected my floors when they came in, cleaned up when they left and, most importantly, had an answer to every question I threw at them. Make no mistake, Allen knows his way around a remodel. This is not just a couple who decided to open a kitchen reno shop. They know their stuff and make you feel so comfortable that the finished product will be awesome. As a part of this work in the house, I worked separately with other subs, like plumbers, tilers and floor guys and, though they were also awesome, there was always a something that came up, whether it was a scheduling issue or something not working as promised. WIth Jane and Allen, there was NONE of that. I could count on them 100% and for anyone who has done any work on their home knows that that alone is rare so so valuable.
