Just so limiting. Zelle limits don't dynamically increase so you are limited to $500 a day instantly. Chase allows me to send much more depending on my history as a customer and with a particular recipient. Essentially $2500-$7500. They also deposit right away even through the mobile app. The mobile app and website function needs a vpn while traveling to function properly. I can't use my debit card to pay rent because I guess it's seen as fraud? However, they don't tell me so there's no way to verify it's actually me and auto approve it. This bank is terrible. Zelle transfers take 3+ days to arrive, which is ridiculous in 2026. Their ATM withdrawal limit is stuck at $1,000, and they don't even provide a reasonable way to increase it when you need access to your own money. The customer service is just as bad. The last representative I spoke with was rude, dismissive, and acted like he owned the place. Instead of helping solve a problem, he seemed annoyed that I called at all. Between the outdated banking services, unnecessary restrictions, and poor customer support, this has been one of the most frustrating banking experiences I've had. It is unbelievable that we need some assistance with the car payment for one or two month, and they denied anything to help us out. They made the process really worse than it was already. I've been banking with Kitsap Credit Union for years. The one thing that I like the most is that the employees are always very helpful and friendly. I haven't had any issues while banking with them so I've only gone in when I need to deposit cash or replace a card, but every time I've gone to the Port Orchard branch the employees have made my day with their kindness!! read more

Do you like high service charge fees? Snitty staff? Lack of locations? Then Kitsap Credit Union is for you! I opened an account here hoping they'd be better than the local banks. Instead I got railed with immediate and frequent $32 NSF fees on any tiny overage (even as little as $2) that other credit unions and banks don't charge- or let you at least have a moment to cover the overage before imposing. And if they make a mistake and you ask to have the NSF removed I got attitude from the front counter staff. In short, Kitsap Credit Union never did anything for me except impose fees. After losing hundreds of dollars to unnecessary fees over several months I closed my accounts. I'm going back to NFCU and Capital One, the best financial institutions I've ever dealt with. And no NSF fees. On the upside, Kitsap Credit Union does have a beautiful buulding, a convenient drive-up (get bent, Wells Fargo for closing yours) an inside ATM and the account specialists I dealt with are all pleasant and quite competent. read more

We've had overall very good experience with this branch. We've been approved for several types of loans and credit accounts with excellent terms, far better than the large commercial banks. As my wife says, "They were always there for us when we needed them." Overall, the tellers are friendly and management responsive to our concerns. But its status as a training branch has led to ongoing problems with our account deposits that are worsening due to changes in corporate policy. The most dangerous and ludicrous is its decision to eliminate deposit slips. All transactions are verbal since, the corporate philosophy states, it's the customer who makes the most errors on those slips. So, a teller is supposed to engage you in conversation and ask in which account you'd like your money deposited. This may work for teller window transactions. The last drive-up teller who handled my deposits failed to ask where the deposit monies were supposed to go and ignored the deposit slips and the instructions which have been permanently saved to our accounts. They deposited all of the money into our personal account. That meant that any checks or payments for expenses or taxes drawn from the business account would've bounced. Imagine all the time and effort that would have to be put in clearing up that mess. Some mistakes made by new tellers cause an account to be overdrawn, causing fees to be levied. To get this all reversed requires time and effort wasted that could've been avoided if the errors were caught before the transaction was completed. That used to be how it was done at this branch. No longer. Deposit slips provide a record of our intent for OUR money, how and where we want it deposited. In our case, there are written instructions for how to process our deposits that every teller is supposed to view in our account before starting the transactions. New tellers ignore the written instructions and just complete the transactions by rote from their general training. This is how our deposits get mishandled on a recurring basis by new tellers in training. But there are other pitfalls to no-deposit-slip transactions. Think that drive-up teller lines were backed up before? That situation could only have been worsened now by customers having to repeat verbal instructions to tellers with the tellers having to verbally confirm them with the customers. If there's an error, it can descend into something like Monty Python's "Argument Clinic" sketch: "I told you what I wanted." "No you didn't." "Yes I did." "No you didn't." "Yes I did"... And all the drivers in the other lanes can hear it all. What I didn't originally mention is that both my wife and I talked with the branch manager before I posted this review. My wife and I still disagree with KCU on a couple of industry practices but we are welcome to continue using deposit slips for our transactions. That same manager has affirmed that she's available to meet with us any time we feel the need to talk to her about our accounts. The credit union remains more responsive to our concerns than other institutions we've banked with and we do have an overall long and great working relationship with this branch. He answered every question, he got me a new credit card that can tap to pay; and it took maybe 20 minutes from leaving my car to getting back in. My experience with Kitsap Credit Union has been absolutely terrible. The customer service is a joke--either the representatives have zero experience dealing with people, or they know exactly what they're doing but completely lack basic sympathy. Beyond that, Kitsap Credit Union blatantly takes advantage of its customers with predatory overdraft fees--fees that, in some cases, feel downright criminal. It makes me wonder if they're scrambling to squeeze every last dollar out of people before the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's new overdraft fee limits take effect in October 2025. Either way, I'll be closing my account soon, and I'll make sure to warn everyone I know to steer clear of shady institutions like Kitsap Credit Union. I called to request a debit card purchase limit increase because I'm buying a car - Rep called manager for approval. The rep then told me they are short staffed so the manager is unable to increase my purchase limit because it's too high. I then asked if they can at least increase it to 10K. They said no because I initially asked for the full value of the car, they cannot go back and change the limit amount requested. Seems like they make it difficult for customers to access their funds. I then tried to send wire transfer through secure chat, it was very difficult to accomplished this because you're chatting with a bot and regardless of what I say in the chat, the answer is they are very busy and leave a message. Their ATM ate my check. I was attempting to make a deposit at the ATM after business hours, it took my check then had an error and spat my card back out with a receipt saying the transaction could not be processed. It wouldn't return my check. I panicked and went home and called Kitsap Credit Union's 1-800 # and I was assured that I'd be able to go in to the branch during business hours and they'd get me my check back. I did just that, but as soon as they found out I wasn't a member (I use BECU and they just partner together to allow us to use networked ATMs) they refused to help me. They told me I'd have to call BECU. I had half a mind to call the police and demand my check back (after all, it's sitting not 15 ft away in that ATM!). Feels like theft to be willing to help but only if it's one of your own members. They stole my check and refuse to return it. Now I'm stuck going through a "dispute" that is going to take 45 business days to resolve. Absolute bullshit behavior. Shame on them. I'm never going back and telling everyone I know to avoid. I have Been Banking at Kitsap CU for quite a while. Kitsap CU used to be a very good local bank. Recently, I am now trying to dispute a certain charge on my debit card, That I did NOT authorize. The bank and the KROGER company says it was a verified chip purchase. I have no receipt for this large purchase! Kitsap CU says the purchase was "Chip Verified." Where is my itemized statements of this large purchase?! Kitsap CU or Kroger company cannot provide or go the extra mile to get a detailed list or department of what I purchased! Neither parties can not provide me with any receipts or details of what I purchased for the amount in question!! Kitsap CU does not protect or go the extra mile to help their customers. I was scammed by a potential new job. The teller at KCU waived the 7 day hold for a check that I deposited which I received from my "new employer". Turns out the check bounced. I accepted responsibility and said that I would setup a payment plan to pay the balance since we were both scammed when I got a job. They wouldn't work with me and even refused to cooperate with the police when I filed a report for the scam. The police wanted a copy of the check and KCU refused to give it to me. Insisting they have to have the request from the police. Worse bank I have ever been with. If the teller did her job, and held the check for 7 days, we would have found out that it was bad and my account would be in good standing. The worst bank I've ever used and I've used some pretty terrible banks like Wells Fargo, Key, Bank of America and some of the others but Kitsap Credit Union is by far the worst. This bank is continually flagging normal purchases as fraud and locking me out of my account. You know what it hasn't done? Lock out genuine cases of fraud! I've had about three issues with fraud in the past year and they were incredibly sketchy so much so that the point of sale contacted me but Kitsap did not flag those purchases at all. In fact, at one point they weren't even willing to call them fraud. Not only that, but there is never any warning or indication from them that my card is locked so I don't find out until I try to use it again like when I'm nearly out of gas at the gas station. I was paired with Kitsap by SunLight financial services for a solar loan. I was approved for $100k but only needed $31k , the reason for the amounts will come later. I made a down payment of $7k with a monthly of $204 and another payment 0f $7459.00 due in 15 months January 2025. I have been trying to make this payment early (August 8/7 2024) to save a bit on money on interest. I called a number listed as Kitsap (877-212-7370) which is not listed on this website as a valid number, and there is a reason for that. A valid phone is 800-422-5852 or 622-2000. The bogus numbers are 877-212-737 and 877-354-2629. These numbers are for Launch Servicing, a collection agency. And like all collection agencies they do not answer the phone. As noted at the beginning of this review I was approved for $100k and my fico is 809. My payment notice comes from Kitsap credit union and is automatically debited from my account and I have never missed a payment. So what is going on? Kitsap opened and wrote the loan with no intention of keeping it. They sold it as outstanding debt to a collection agency, Launch Servicing.A male representative from Kitsap tried to deny that Launch Servicing is a collection agency. I suggest that he go to the Launch Servicing website and check their disclosures where you will find the following statement. "Some states require that we inform you Launch Servicing, LLC is a debt collector attempting to collect a debt, and any information obtained will be used for that purpose." As a debt collection agency they will never answer the phone. I will point out that if you call the 877-212-7370 the automate voice will say you have contacted Kitsap, but this is a lie. You will get the exact same message in the exact same voice when you call the official Launch Services number (877-354-2629). I guess the best thing you can say about Kitsap is they are really deceitful. I did not receive a notice that my loan had been laid off to Launch Servicing. In fact Kitsap continues to portray themselves as the loan provider i.e the notice of payment in their name but if you call them they will tell you that they can not process any solar loan payments. Update: since posting this review I received my usual text notifying me that my monthly payment is about to processed but I noticed a different web address. I tapped on it and it took me to the Launch Servicing website. I was taken directly to page explaining that Launch Servicing is a collection agency and that they are required to notify victims, unfortunate clients of Kitsap. Anyway I need to go back to my complaint filed with CFPB (Consumer Fraud Protection Bureau0 , a federal agency and update it. Update: I called Kitsap to try and get a definitive answer to the question, was my loan sold to a collection agency and by what standard? I spoke to a representative by the name of Issac who was a bit more informed. He did not know the details but he did have the broad strokes. Apparently (heads up, this really messed up) my solar provider connected me with Sunlight Financial who processed the application and provided the underwriting. Sunlight has some sort of relationship with Kitsap who provides the funding and they both have a relationship with Launch Services who handles the billing. So in this drama Sunlight is gone, done, washed their hands, at least that's what they think. A manger from Kitsap told me they can not process solar payments. That has to be done by Launch Servicing who, confirmed by the manager, does not answer their phone. I tried to find out which entity was responsible for bringing Launch Servicing but the answer seemed to fall into the unknown category. Avoid the mess. Pass on all three. read more

Went in to open an account with a $500 deposit. Was refused service and discriminated against on the basis of a disability when I informed them I was exempt from the mask mandate. They constantly shut our cards off for fraud protection, without a call or text, nothing, and it's over basic utilities, I'm talking about the power bill that's been on auto-pay for 5 years, level stuff. I can't believe I'm having such a terrible banking experience from a **local** credit union! My banking here has been UNPROFESSIONAL in every way. I DO NOT TRUST THEM. I've banked when then for a year now and have rarely not had some kind of issue with them every time I have to deal with KCU. Here's why: I opted for their temporary checks as I knew I would be moving. They offer 12 a year, which was about the amount I needed. Now folks the following sounds like I made this up -- but this is all true! Not once, but on TWO separate occasions they MISPRINTED my account number on my checks. This resulted in several very embarrassing situations with my daughters school fundraiser, a family member, ect. The time I had to take out of my own schedule to fix their mistake. Phone calls, visiting the school twice took 5 weeks for resolution. Then finally when we got the correctly printed checks the South Kitsap branch manager told us they've had this issue "a lot lately". WTF Ms. Branch Manager? This isn't acceptable, money isn't Play Doh! I've had large deposits from the same company 6+ times. Every dang time the teller puts a 2-3 day hold on the check (yes it varies). Now 1) I can see doing this a couple times but not each time, and 2) the hold is at the individual teller's discretion - that's what I was told! Pardon my surprise when I found out that any entry level employee has that kind of power over my finances. Now I'm getting my mail sent to my old address after ONLY ever currently banking with KCU from my current address. I'm so over it. What prompted this review was that I went to pay a bill by phone this morning and my debit card was declined! My account balance is 13x the amount I need to pay (yes I did the math) and it was declined. Now I have to schlep all 3 of my little kids to the bank because, unlike any other financial institution, you cannot get KCU on the phone despite me calling every number listed for them. Great operation. I'm not concerned with the negative petty complaints I see posted. I give them money and they hold it until I use it. Two things drove me from the mainstream local banks. First, KCU does not require ID to break $20 bill into 2 $10 bills, where as the mainstream local banks require ID for ANY cash transaction, including breaking a $20 bill into 2 $10 bills citing you could be money laundering and second, you don't have to stand in line for 25 minutes. read more

Some people at the Port Orchard branch can be very rigid and difficult to work with. I don't like to leave a one-star review but at the moment my blood is boiling! My mom opened an account with them with her life savings. It was deposited via a cashier's check from her old credit union. The funds were held for a full seven business days causing a small Geico payment to be denied twice then they charged her two NSF fees totaling $64.00. I called and asked them to reverse the charges and the teller couldn't do it, so I asked to speak to a manager and the manager was very rigid about their policies and said that they did not yet have a relationship with my mother. I told them that they were not making a very good one and that if they didn't wave the fee, my mom would be happy to take her money elsewhere. The manager then offered to meet me halfway. I felt that was ridiculous since my mom had such a large sum of money in there. It seems it would behoove them to simply wave the fees and make an old lady happy, and ultimately keep her as a customer. I did call the Belfair branch, and they were very nice and waived the fees without getting argumentative and rude. Therefore, her money is still in Kitsap Credit Union, no thanks to the Port Orchard branch. I hope the "relationship" becomes a good one in the future, but the Port Orchard branch may need to send their managers to some PR training. read more

As our business has expanded we have had to point our people to use certain facilities in the area. KCU has been a stalwart direction to give access to a financial institution that exists for its customers. Their board meetings are available to members. They encourage voting. They have no fees. Their phone support is a local team. Their tellers are not like the tellers from LA or Seattle. They are townies and new-locals so the small town part comes with that for better and the rest. They are what I remember credit unions being in the 1990s before they began being swallowed up whole by banks with monocles twirling their mustaches. read more

Terrible service. Do not use Kitsap credit union. Checks take a minimum of 4 days to process but can (unapologetically ) take up to 7 days. The website is frequently down at inopportune times (such as checking the status of that check deposit) and the brand new ATM in downtown Bremerton is out of order more often than not without even the courtesy of a posted notification on the machine to keep you from further wasting your time. BofA may charge 12 bucks a month for a checking account but at least they have prompt and reliable service. Seriously. Find another bank to hold your money. read more

Today was my last straw with this CU. I work for another larger CU so I kinda of expected a to be treated like they actually cared about me here, however it was and has been the complete opposite. The CU I work for treats people much better than this place. First when we tried to get a loan, after five days of negotiations the MC told us you should go somewhere else, you won't have a problem getting a loan anywhere else. Low and behold at my work we had our money in two days, I still don't understand this. Next, for months we were being charged a bad address fee, no one called to ask if our address changed. I called and told them we got our mail why do you charge us this, they confirmed they had all the correct info, no real solution, gave us credit, continued to bill us the fee after that, had to keep calling. Then I needed a new debit card, that was a nightmare that went on for about a month without me having a card. Also when you deposit cash here, if it's more than 200, they place a hold on it for at least 48 business hours???? CASH. Then today. We requested our tax returns to be direct deposited into our account, and without so much as a call they rejected the deposit. I AM SO OVER THESE PEOPLE. They are making me pick a start to post this otherwise they don't deserve one. read more
