We've been using this veterinary clinic for about 2 years and have always been satisfied. We use the Paw Plan that they offer, which ultimately is the price of one full teeth cleaning, but includes two check ups and two extra visits just in case. Other than being closed on Sundays I have no complaints about the services provided here. We bring our two cats and two dogs and they're quite healthy and always happy to see the staff and doctors. I am extremely disappointed in the Kitsap Veterinary Hospital. I feel foolish for continuing to use them. I have had very disappointing experiences regarding money over the last three years. Three separate occasions. My dog needed some dental work and we were told in writing what the visit would cost. Not an estimate, it was a solid quote. We agreed to do the dental work. Guess what, the amount ended up being $700 more than our rock solid quote. Last year we're taking the dogs for their yearly visit, vaccines, lab work, etc. Again we were given an amount in writing of $323. When we got there, the doctor came in, examined the two dogs, then told us what would be done to them on that visit, and left. The work they intended to do was exactly the same as the quoted list I had been given two days earlier. The vet tech came in to get the dogs and handed me the list with prices. There was a $405 difference. Our last visit was yesterday, 6/24/26. Same experience yesterday. Written list of services, with prices from three days ago. I hand the the list when the tech comes in and told him that these were the services I was authorizing them to do. Again, $307 difference. I speak to the manger and she just listens, smiles and says, "we will attempt to do better in the future ". Nothing else, just we will try to do better. We were also told the Flea and Tick medicine would be $47 per dose, for each of our two dogs. We get there, the exact same medicine was $59.28 per dose. We are not going back. What is disappointing is that we have been going there for 11 years. No issues until three years ago. What happened? Now we are faced with finding a new vet, starting completely over. My dogs will need the flea and tick medicine in less than thirty days, and we do not have a prescription. We are out the money we spent yesterday, our dogs still do not have all of there vaccines because of their fraudulent quote. We will have to pay again at the new vet for an exam that we already paid for at the old vet, and they will be late on their flea and tick medication until I can get a prescription from another vet. I cannot express our disappointment, and their unwillingness to try and keep us a customer. After three separate visits, nothing except we will try and go better. read more

Unfortunately I didn't read the reviews before I took my 3 dogs to KVH!. I wish I could say they care about your pet because that's always their answer when there is a negative review posted and there are a lot of negative reviews but no they only care about money. Our experience like many others was we were quoted a price over the phone but were given a much bigger price when we arrived and made to feel guilty if we didn't agree. So long story short after 1 visit and $2000 for 2 healthy well check visits and 1 dog to get neutered we are taking our dogs to a vet that actually cares. The ladies who work here are amazing! We loved going here and always felt taken care of. My dog actually enjoyed going for visits and was always treated with lots of love and attention. We saw each doctor there and they always gave their best advice in addition to options for care. I felt that I could ask them anything! My baby Rex was diagnosed with a bulging disk in his neck at the emergency clinic, and was given meds that seemed to help in the beginning, but on Thursday morning he was much worse, couldn't move, wouldn't eat or drink, and was whining and shaking from all the pain he was in. I thought I was going to have to put him to sleep to end his pain. I called Kitsap Veterinary and not only were they able to get him in to be seen right away, but they gave him some kind of laser therapy and some heavy duty meds that have helped a lot with Rex's condition. Still to soon to know if Rex will fully recover or not, but now I have hope for him. Something I had completely given up on before I went here. WARNING ABOUT THIS PLACE Took dog in for an abscess on leg looking to find out if it was infected. After testing came back that it was not infected vet proceeded to recommend a $1200 surgery to remove the "dead, rotting flesh" around the wound. (note, the dog was happily running and playing all day) They pressured me to leave him for the surgery that same night warning "I've seen this lead to amputation of leg." At home I put warm cloth on him and the "dead rotten flesh" miraculously wiped away. It was dirt!! They tried to scare me into $1200 surgery over dirt! When they called to follow up and I told them what they'd done they just cheerily said "Oh I'm glad it's better." If they recommend something pricey here GET A SECOND OPINION. read more

I took my cat to this clinic and I was told over the phone the consultation would be $59. Once there I was charged the $59 plus $189 for a "senior check" In short a total of $248 for the consultation. They also charged me for the X rays plus EXTRA for the XRay Set Up and interpretation. Plus for the urine and blood test. At the end I end up paying almost $650 just For the preliminary to find out what's the problem with my cat. I took my dog in for an abcess tooth and typical Vet they wanted to run unneccessary test, etc. After refusing the uranalysis (nothing to do with dental) we paid $250 just for an exam, standard blood test, and antibotics. Total rip-off. Next came the estimate for the tooth pulling. OMG. Quote started at $500 and went up to almost $900. Needless to say I called around and found a Vet - Bremerton Vet Hospital and had the same procedure done for $187 out the door. I think you can draw your own conclusions... read more

All for the shock value OMG my dogs ears are dirty!!! I had no problem paying for a visit and a estimate for surgery, the office visit was supposed to be like $50.00 I walked out with a $280.00 bill and a estimate for surgery at $1000.00, after I told them this was an outrage they called back and said they could do it for $800... After waiting a month to get my money together I called and said I would like to schedule the surgery they wanted to screw my again for another office visit. My kitty is 17 years old & needs pain meds. I took him in & was presented with bIll of $409 - $193 of which was a senior well exam. I understood he would need tests before given an Rx. Dr. Buck told me she'd call with results in 2 days which was Friday. She called at 11am leaving a VM bc I was away from my phone momentarily. Her message said she was leaving & wouldn't be back till Tuesday. Tuesday rolls around & my phone is out of order all day & part of today so I call back. Dr. Buck is again out of the office for several days. Only 1 vet on today & she's busy. I explain my phone was out of order. Receptionist tells me it's not their fault! (Actually it wasnt mine either) & they can transfer my kitty's records & test results with alacrity to another vet. You take my $409 ( & try to talk me into other procedures bc they've seen problems in other animals of this age - a scare tactic I see they've used before. Then don't care bc I've already spent the money. Very low to prey on fears then ignore their patient, your pet. So if you venture to have an opinion about them & actually voice it they are only too happy to lose you. Kitsap Veterinarian Hospital consider yourself lost. read more

My husband and I recently moved to WA and after some very bad luck with our babies (fur-babies) we needed a vet ASAP. The vet that we originally got referred to did not have any openings that day, so we were forced to go here. Terrible mistake. Like all the other reviews, I wish I had gone on here first and read them... DO NOT GO HERE! Spare yourself! Our dog had a leg injury - we were quoted $340 when we walked into the lobby. This was fine by us and was what we had been quoted at other places. Then they had said they wanted to do a couple more things - then the bill went to $670 - but they did NOT stop there. After trying to make my dog go through lots of unnecessary procedures and trying to force me to take things for her (she had a scrape the size of my pinky nail on her knee - they wanted to give her antibodies for it!!!!! Which cost $80...). They took her back while we waited - she came back no better and with a $1200 bill!!!!!!! $1200! I was quoted $340. They made me pay because they had already done it to her and would not give her back unless I paid the bill. End of the story? We ended up taking her to a different vet and paying $400 to fix the damage. ... Don't go here unless you like burning money... or you could just burn your money and stay warm - at least it would be useful then. read more

I have brought several pets to Kitsap Veterinary and have always felt welcomed and like my pets were taken care of. Unfortunately, today, my feelings have changed. Yesterday (Sunday) we had to take our cat to an emergency vet. They told us that she needed to be spayed as soon as possible due to a uterine infection. That Vet then forwarded our information to Kitsap Veterinary and let us know to contact them this morning. Before we could call them today, they called my husband and quoted him between $1600-1800 to have her spayed. My understanding was that the procedure was routine and would not vary much from a standard spay which we had previously been told by you would be between $200-300. I find the price increase to be ridiculous and, frankly, offensive. In a time when we are gravely concerned about the health of our cat, to then be told the cost is 8 to 9 times more because it is of urgency and to be made to feel like horrible pet parents for not being able to pay that amount is extremely upsetting and has caused us to find care for her from another Vet for this procedure as well as any future care. Of course I would go to Hell and back to make sure that my cat is ok, but a price hike of 1400-1600 is obscene. I also don't appreciate being made to feel like I am neglectful of my cat because I don't have the cash to hand over - especially at Christmas time. read more

I have had only positive experiences at Kitsap Veterinary Hospital! I have two dogs and both have very different issues and the vets here have always taken time to listen to my pets problems and advise what I thought were very manageable solutions. The only less than positive feedback that I have and the only reason that I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 is that there is a bit of a communication breakdown sometimes and I have to be pleasantly persistent when I call in with a problem or question that needs to go to the back office staff. My experiences with them dealing with my dogs anxiety issues and surgery needs have been very positive! read more

I'm sorry to see the one star reviews - my experience here has been great. Dr. Buck is a very caring and knowledgeable Vet. She recommended a compounded form of thyroid medication for my geriatric cat so we didn't have to administer pills every day. When that cat was 19 and needed to be euthanized, Dr. Buck was extremely sensitive and understanding, as was the entire staff. My current cat has had two minor surgeries at KVH and has been seen for a couple of serious infections. In all cases she received top flight care and I was very satisfied with the outcomes. It's true that veterinary care has become quite expensive in recent years, but that issue is not unique to Kitsap Veterinary Hospital. I've always received written quotes in advance and feel comfortable declining procedures if I feel they are unneeded or can be deferred. read more

In Sept. 2017 I took my cat to Kitsap animal hospital for his physical exam, vaccinations, flea prevention medicine. He was an older cat. Dr. Ansorge diagnosed him as being over weight. Paid for expensive weight loss food and all of it. In december 2017 he became sick. Took him to a veterinarian here in SC where we are now. He had a tumor in his abdomen that was too far along too treat. We had to put him down. If a vet tells you your animal is overweight and it is just a large stomach, get a second opinion. read more

After two visits that included a biopsy and bloodwork we were charged over $300. Then we received our surgical estimate for a simple removal of the benign growth, $1600. Wow. And don't even think to tell them you can't afford an outrageously high price, they will try to push a credit card on you instead of charging a reasonable price for their non spectacular services. Last year when I had to put my 17 year old male cat, I brought him here to KVH and they were very nice. This time, I brought in my 15 year old female cat because of a concern I had about a growth in her belly. The vet and the tech were nice, until they started examining my cat, where they manhandled her, mashing her mammary tumors and making her very uncomfortable. Then the vet started prattling off the list of things I needed to do for her, x-rays, blood work, all kinds of tests leading up to the $1600 surgery, that at her age she might not survive, and oh!, she has a heart murmur, but we can bring in the FELINE CARDIOLOGIST to make sure she is strong enough to survive the anesthesia. Once I informed her that I could not afford all that, she started talking to me in very patronizing tones, "Well, it's ok if you can't afford that, it's ok, you can just take her home and love her till her time comes". Feeling even worse that I did when I first got there, I went to the front to pay my bill, where the nurse brought me the break down for the surgery, blood work and whatever all else I "needed" to do, then she told the receptionist, "so, we're going to set-up the blood work so that we can get started with surgery proceedings", despite the fact that I told both her AND the vet that I couldn't do it. In that one trip to the vet, 2 x-rays and 1 office visit cost me $280. And to top it off, they called me a week later to remind me we need to set up that blood work appointment AND remind me to get my cat in for her dental appointment, which we NEVER discussed at my very expensive office visit, "because we want to keep her teeth clean and healthy". I am not ever going back to the Up Sell Animal Hospital. When your heart is breaking over your beloved pet, no one needs hospital staff trying wring as much money out of you as they can before you leave. read more

I have been taking my dogs to Kitsap Veterinary for years now and I don't regret the decision one bit. I live on Bainbridge Island and am willing to make the drive for the vast knowledge and level of care that my dogs receive each time I take them to see Dr. Lock. We used to take our dogs to a clinic on Bainbridge but I got so frustrated with the doctors there, it always came down to a "let's wait a few days to see if it gets worse" mentality and that drove me so crazy. A friend recommended Kitsap Veterinary and its the best decision I could have made. The entire staff obviously cares about each animal that is brought in and does what it takes to keep my pets healthy. I'm not sure why these other reviews are so low. They may not be the cheapest veterinary hospital out there, but I would recommend that those folks looking for the lowest cost pay attention to what they are receiving for the price. I would recommend Kitsap Veterinary hands down to anyone searching for a Veterinarian in Kitsap County. read more

I had to put down both of my boys today. They were a yellow lab and the chocolate lab and have been coming to Kitsap Vet their entire lives. Most reviews I see here are after one visit. Here is my review after 13 years of treatments and help. The staff here doesn't excellent job through and through. Every time I bring them and they discuss a multitude of options and test and allow me to make the decision of what I think is important. Yes people it is not free for a veterinarian to run tests! The people on here giving bad reviews for the bill racking up are the same people that would complain if a test wasn't run and something was missed. This is a very dedicated and caring staff and I am grateful to have had both of my boys receive all their care here. His vet hospital started about as just ok. pretty over price for all their services, but is is close to my home, so we stuck with them. We had been with them for 2 years first with with my daughters puppy, but she moved to Seattle and took her puppy with her. Then, when we got our maltese and our labradoodle puppies, I went to them again for their care. They were the only vet our pups knew and they were our vet office. As such, we had made an appointment and we had done many times before for check up for our dogs, who were no longer puppies. All of the sudden our appointment gets cancelled because Teddy, our labradoodle supposedly had another vet??? We have 3 dogs, but only Teddy sees another vet. (He must be sneaking out and taking himself to see this other mystery vet.) This decision was made by the office manages without as much as a phone call to us to verify this info. Their lack of courtesy, consideration, and inability to communicate is astounding. So, we found another vet. A week later, I get a letter for KVH saying that "Dr. Buck respectful recommend that I find a different vet"??? No s**t Sherlock. read more

This office is extremely friendly and accommodating. I have taken my dog here twice within the past month and each time, I've been very happy with the service I received. The back office staff and Dr. Buck are friendly and extremely knowledgeable. They took the time to review charges for my visit with me (without me having to ask) before they sent me back to the front desk to pay. I felt that the charges were fair and acceptable. The only shortcoming I can find with this office is that the front office isn't the most friendly when you walk in. They always end up being very helpful and kind, but it's a little intimidating walking in to serious faces and no greeting. read more

We had to go here recently to check back in on an ongoing issue that our bichon, Baby has. They have handled all of babys medical care. I really liked it here. Everyone was nice and it was very clean. They were so sweet to our dog (even though he tried to bite the assistant :( ) and we didn't have to wait an hour after our appointment time to be seen. We are the sort of people where the animals just basically get taken in for shots and emergencies. They didn't make me feel bad about that. We were given less expensive alternatives to the expensive creams and stuff they offered. The shots were done quickly and they talked to and petted Baby the whole time. The people I was helped by obviously love animals (you'd think that would be more common in a vets office) and that is so important to me. I think the nicest thing was when the assistant told me she would hold the dogs head instead of me because she didn't want me to get bitten. I don't think it would be reasonable for me to expect that and I didn't. She just offered... Above and beyond. Risking s dog bite so I don't have to! I felt bad but she insisted and I did really appreciate it. All in all, could we have had the same services for much less elsewhere? Yes. Would it have been fine? Yes. But it would have been yet another traumatic vet visit. The positive experience for the dog (tough to pull off when you're giving him shots) was MORE than worth the price we had to pay. There are many kind of vets out there for many different kinds of owner. This is, in my opinion, NOT a "wait and see" kind of vet. They are very action oriented-thats part of what fluffs up the price. You just have to be clear and honest with them about what YOUR needs are, and they seem more than happy to work with you. I raise and compete in a variety of high intensity sports with Labradors from puppyhood to geriatric in age and consider the staff at Kitsap Veterinary Hospital to be an integral part of my "team". Since we moved to the area in 2009, the staff has taken care of emergencies ranging from broken teeth, to an obstruction caused by a stuck food particle, cuts needing stitches, sprained extremities, and even acted as a partner in care during cancer treatments for my young lab. The level of care at this vet is EXCEPTIONAL. The staff seems to be continuously involved in furthering their education in veterinary medicine, and shares their knowledge when an improved therapy might benefit my dog (ie; improved arthritis medication with less side effects). If you want to make sure your pet receives the best care possible... this is the place. They help keep my furry teammates in tip top health, and get them back up and running again when something's gone wrong. read more

I brought in both my pups this week (a 14 month old I've had for a year, and a newly adopted 7 month old I've had for 4 days) for a check up before flying. It was a very clean and open space with very friendly staff. Took a few extra minutes to go from the waiting room to the appointment room, but I realized during the appointment that they run a little behind because they take the time to get to know pet and owner and answer all questions. Our Yellow lab hurt his knee zooming. We took him to KVH where he has been seen annually since he was born. We found the vets to be caring, and so knowledgeable. After the initial exam we were told our choices. Put him on pain pills forever or surgery to repair the torn ACL. The price was quoted and printed for us. We opted for the surgery and we are so glad we made that decision. Buddy is now back to normal, he continues to zoom, and is wonderful to see him play and enjoy his family time. Do not take your pet to this clinic even to kill it. This is based on only one visit because I had to have my dog euthanized, and I had just moved to the area. The doctor and a vet tech botched my dog's euthanasia by only administering a portion of the dose before the stent failed. I had to watch for agonizing MINUTES while my half dead dog was taken off my lap and into another room and then back. The vet was panicking. My dog was making the most heartbreaking whimpering sound. The Doctor said my dog couldn't feel anything, but he sure could feel it when the vet and the vet tech ripped out the stent and jammed another one into his back end. He finally got enough anesthesia in him to die. It was was not peaceful. It was barely humane. I have nightmares about the noise he was making and the blood. They gave me $25 off the euthanasia (which still cost over $300 despite being botched). I paid to have him (my dog) cremated separately, so that I would have his ashes. But, today when I went to pick up the ashes, I was handed a completely unlabeled box that could contain anyone (or any dog's) ashes. There's no way to ever know that the extra money I paid to receive my dog's ashes resulted in me receiving my dog's ashes. I'm devastated. How awful to have entrusted my final moments with my companion to these people. Do not take your pet to this clinic even to kill it. read more

I started taking my cat Kai here in 2010. My kitty does not normally like men or other people in general. So I was relieved when she started seeing Dr. Buck and how well my kitty liked her. Her first visit was to update her shots from relocating her to live with me. The second visit was a couple of days later due to a shot she could not have on the same day as others. Kai was not fixed she was 2 going on 3 around the time. Dr. Buck wrote up a quote about fixing her it was around $1000. I said I would look it over. I continuously took her there knowing Kai felt comfortable even though I did not like the pushiness of the spaying. The next visit she quoted me again adding a teeth cleaning with the spaying it came to around $1400. This year 2017 Kai had a visible lump on her stomach, a tumor. Dr. Buck quoted me of the removal of the tumor, with the spay, minus the teeth cleaning at lowest $2000. On that visit we had an X-ray of her chest to make sure if the tumor was cancerous to know if it had spread to her chest. I was okay with doing that X-ray it made sense. However it was $500+. Mind you in between 2010-2017 she has tried to give me numerous X-rays that did not make sense. I only accepted a stomach X-ray which was $250+ and the recent 2017 chest X-ray. She also tried to say my cat has diabetes and needed a urine sample with a possibility of having to pay overnight stay if she could not get a sample. I found a place in Seattle to do the surgery spay plus tumor removals for $900 including an $80 DNA test that shows the long term if she has Diabetes, she does not. I am not saying you have to drive all the way to Seattle to get a good treatment just look around somewhere else please!! read more
