When it was time to say goodbye we were taken to a private room so we could spend as much time as we needed together. They made sure it was a peaceful passing for Penny, but also regularly checked in on me and explained everything kindly and thoroughly. I would like to especially shout out Ashton, who was kind enough to make Penny a beautiful plate of sweets and even shared her own piece of pie. It was so helpful to be around such a caring individual at the worst moment of my life. We had taken Penny in once before, and my husband and I both appreciated the set up of the clinic - you can see your animal being cared for and be with them every second. We didn't ever stay overnight with Penny during a hospitalization, but what an amazing thing to be able to be with them the whole time. Other emergency vets aren't like that. Thank you, VEG!

She had been scratching around her eyes, and had developed some scratches that were inflamed. Ultimately, she was prescribed antibiotics, with a proposed eye dye. The medical director was my treating vet, and she explained why the eye dye was suggested, but not required. In an expensive time, I'm very appreciative that they didn't push for an unnecessary test. She and the team all had great bedside manner. Yes, the wait was a bit long, but it wasn't through any fault of the staff; multiple stat cases had come in and understandably, skin irritation wasn't at the top of the to-do list. Also, they did let me know up front that it would be a bit of a wait, so again, good communication. While I hope I never have to take my baby into an emergency vet, I would definitely come back to VEG.

the last thing a pet owner wants ahead of a long weekend is a trip to the emergency vet; actually,…read moremost pet owners i know aren't excited about emergency vet visits at any time of year but when they happen and you want to make sure your fur baby is ok, you go, regardless of the costs involved. late last week i made the decision to take my dog in with an issue i've seen him have before but this time all my efforts didn't curb the symptoms and i decided i'd get a jump on what promised to be a full emergency waiting room ahead of fireworks and loud noises. the closest VEG location to me is in interbay but when i called they suggested i go to lynwood, federal way or redmond because they were already slammed. so up to lynnwood we went and when we walked in, i got an introduction into how differently VEG locations handle things. each pet/human is greeted and triaged. the open concept of seeing everyone working and every other patient out in the open may be different from what you're used to but it demystifies things for sure. you're not left wondering what's happening to your pet behind closed doors. and in an emergency when your cortisol levels may already be elevated this is most likely a welcome difference in protocol. we were ushered to an alcove with a couch and someone came over with a laptop to get details and reasons why we were there. minutes later a tech and vet arrived and we talked to them. she patiently listened and said she'd develop a plan for how to investigate what was going on and in retrospect i appreciated that she didn't go straight to imaging and other costly testing but decided to go the route of labs/biochemical diagnoses to rule things like pancreatitis out. once she left us, i got a text message with a quote and link to pre pay. having done that, we waited a bit longer and another pair of staff arrived to draw blood. we were told it would take about 30min for lab results. we waited, we watched the staff moving around to different patients with different needs levels. eventually the vet returned with lab results and recommendations before another tech came with discharge papers and a goodie bag of sample gastrointestinal foods. all told, we were there about two hours and i was highly impressed with the level of service and care we received. things were clean, the staff all seemed positive about the company they are employed by and they genuinely care about delivering a high standard of care to everyone who walked through the doors, human and animal. one thing i appreciated was that the vet mentioned that i could call or email with follow up questions and also mentioned that if we needed to return, we could go to the interbay location because all locations are connected and would have access to his file/treatments. yesterday we received a follow up text to check on him, also encouraging calls if we have questions. VEG seems to have emergency veterinary service and human customer service dialed in. it's hard to know who and where to go in an emergency but i'd carried the VEG name and number in my phone for years without having a need to use them; now i can say that i'd recommend them based on our experience this past weekend.

He kept us updated frequently, was receptive to questions on diagnostic and treatment options, and efficiently modified our billing to meet our requests. The vet, Dr. Stankowiak, was professional yet kind, and gave us all the information and options without either talking down or over us. He was frank with the treatment plan, yet not dispassionately so. Once we had a plan established we left our kitty in their capable hands, and they again kept us updated throughout the evening on what diagnostics showed and what we wanted next steps to be. They were communicative, compassionate, and ultimately provided our cat with the emergency care he needed. We are so thankful for Anthony, Dr. Stankowiak, and the entire ECEC team.

I brought my diabetic cat to the clinic because she was showing signs of hypoglycemia and her blood glucose was very low. I would have gone to my normal vet, but no vets were available at the time. This was not the first time this had happened...she was having hypo events about once a week, but usually these were late at night and I just gave her sugar and food and she rebounded. She wasn't interested in eating food and I had things to do during the day, so I decided to take her to Emerald City so they could stabilize her. I hadn't used this Clinic in many years because I had gotten a bad feeling from them before, but they were close, so I thought I'd give them another try. First, when I arrived, the door was locked and no one was at the front desk and I had to ring a bell to get in. On my previous visits it had been late at night, so this made some sense to me, but in the middle of the day?! I don't know any other emergency vets that lock their doors during the day and it felt very unwelcoming and like a needless obstacle to getting urgent help. Once inside I explained the situation and they immediately took my cat back to treat her. Very soon a vet came out to get some information. I explained that my cat is not a typical diabetic cat and my vets and I have been working hard to try to understand and regulate her. My guess for this hypo event was that I had given her insulin when she didn't need it, because I wasn't able to get a reading from her that morning. I said that I brought her in to be stabilized and that I would follow up with my vets. The vet immediately said that she needed to stay the night and quoted me $5-6000 to have imaging and a bunch of other tests done. I repeatedly said that I did not want the tests done, because I had already had a lot of tests and imaging done which were all inconclusive and my vet was regularly testing and monitoring her. I called my regular vet to see what they recommended and they said that it would be a good idea to have her spend the night to monitor her, but the tests weren't needed. When the emergency vet returned I let them know I would be willing to have her stay, but I didn't want the extra tests. Again the emergency vet pushed the tests. She made the situation sound very dire and told me that if I wasn't going to let her stay, she would recommend that I euthanize her! I explained that I absolutely wanted her to have her blood glucose stabilized, that's why I was there! I just didn't see the need for all the tests! Reluctantly the vet backed down from imaging but then drew up an estimate that included a bunch of other tests. When I received the estimate, which was still around $4000, I crossed off all the tests I didn't want done, but was told that for them to progress they needed to do the tests. Basically, I felt like they wouldn't treat my cat unless I let them do all these tests that I didn't want, and they were telling me if I didn't let them treat her, I should euthanize her. I had things I needed to get done that day and couldn't spend more time on this, so signed off and left her for the night. All the extra tests came back normal, as I predicted, and weren't necessary at all for stabilizing her. She was pretty well stabilized in a few hours but in the evening when I talked to the vet on duty then and mentioned that I would pick her up in the morning, they sounded surprised that I would want to do this, like they wanted to keep her longer! She wasn't hypoglycemic anymore and in fact they were asking for me to bring insulin for her...what did they want to keep her for? I did pick her up in the morning, paid over $3000, but when they discharged her, I didn't get any real report or information. I emailed them when I got home saying I wanted the test results. No response. The next day I called and asked for the test results - only one test result was sent to me. I emailed back that I wanted all the results and got no response. So I called again the next day and asked for all the test results and any report they had. They explained that they had sent them to my vet but could send them to me too. Is this standard practice? I pay for the tests but you don't give me the results you send them to someone else? Other emergency vets I have been to have just provided me with all the test results so I could see them and share them with whatever vet I wanted. Overall, I had a horrible experience here and will not go back. There are other emergency vets in the area who are more respectful of pet owners and listen to them and their wishes, don't charge as much, and provide you with test results and reports when you leave so you understand what is going on and can decide what to do with them.
