I had my first experience with Shear Pets yesterday, and I'm beyond impressed by Artana! I adopted a bonded pair of senior cats whose owner passed away in April about three weeks ago, and one of them (white) had severe matting down his back and hind legs. It was clearly causing him a lot of discomfort and flat out pain whenever we'd try to pet his whole body. I knew I couldn't and shouldn't try to get the mats out by myself, but because he's 12 years old, generally anxious, and has gone through multiple huge changes/stressors over the past few months, I wanted to make his grooming experience as comfortable as possible, meaning that going to a traditional groomer's was off the table. I knew he wasn't going to be happy about getting put in a carrier/separated from his brother either way and would be scared no matter what, but I was just hoping for harm reduction. Artana is clearly so knowledgeable about cats and loves them very much. Since my cat was already very anxious from my putting him in a carrier, she didn't want to push his limits, and we agreed that the biggest priority was getting rid of his mats and if that's all he would allow her to do, then we'd go with a lion's cut and be fine with that. She predicted exactly what would happen--he would only tolerate the bare minimum, so she was able to take care of his matting and give him a quick overall groom and get the whole experience over with in under 20 minutes. Less than 20 minutes! It was as painless of an experience as I could've hoped for. Since Artana got the grooming with as quickly as possible, my cat bounced back very quickly and is back to his usual, chatty, affectionate self! He's also clearly much more physically comfortable (the mats were so large that they left sores on his skin ) and grooming isn't nearly as difficult for him anymore. **Please see update and response to owner below** This is a long-overdue review about the atrocious experience my cat had at the hands of Artana a year ago. I fully expect an indignant reply from her talking about her surgery, but surgery is no excuse to mistreat animals, and if she wasn't well enough to work, she shouldn't have. I booked an appointment for a bath for my then 18 y.o. cat who is arthritic and has other chronic diseases. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Artana's website says she first wants to see the pet's home environment, so when she arrived at my building, I was waiting for her to exit her van and come inside. Instead, I watched her remain in the driver's seat and stare at me angrily before begrudgingly getting out and taking my cat into her van with no comment about coming inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It made me very uncomfortable, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt since she'd sent multiple emails complaining about her health. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When she dropped him off, she shoved her phone in my face, essentially demanding a tip.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I felt sorry for her and had no idea at that point what she'd done to my cat, so I tipped her. Afterwards, I noticed my cat was limping. I emailed her about it and only then did she say something about him resisting her. I replied in an understanding manner but noted that she had lied to me by omission when she dropped him off. It was later that I noticed that two of my cat's back claws had hematoma from what I can only assume was rough manhandling by the angry and bitter Artana. I would never, ever hire her again and I truly regret trusting her with my cat. *Update*: [[HIGHLIGHT]]Artana, in response to your comment, I don't appreciate the snide remark about my cat's age and supposed lack of grooming, or how you somehow decided that my cat's limp was "slight" when you were nowhere near him to witness it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You clearly manhandled him. Both his back legs were wobbling and sliding around, which is why I reached out to you about it. The condition of his two back claws, bruised and ridged as if they were dragged on a rough surface only confirmed that. In terms of his coat, my cat has been an indoor pet his entire life and the recipient of excellent all-around care that has always included daily brushing in addition to professional baths. I gave him a break from the stress of baths when his health declined to help him adjust to his new routine of medication and subcutaneous fluids. This had nowhere near the effect it would have had on a neglected, decrepit cat with matted fur or a dog or any pet that goes outside. Further, it is completely irrelevant to what happened to him while in your care--you are a pet groomer after all and were made aware of his situation prior to meeting him and were presumably equipped to tailor his care accordingly. Awesome and easy service from Shear Pets! Booked the 8am slot on a Friday. Artana called as she pulled up in her large van and took Lincoln (ragdoll, 4yo) from me. Artana then confirmed the services I wanted. It was my first time having Linky groomed and she recommended what was best for a ragdoll. After which, she said she will call when the deed is done. The service took around half an hour and Artana called on the way back. Quick handoff and Artana explained how the procedure went. Linky handled it like a champ and he smells so good now. Paid in cash to avoid the extra fees. Fees came up to about $110. Give it a shot if you need grooming done. I was initially a little hesistant as there were 1001 clauses on their website but if you know your pet well and how they would behave in a grooming situation, then it would not matter as much. read more

As we come up on the anniversary of our cat's surgery, I am really regretting not posting this sooner. Artana broke our cat's leg as pictured in the x-ray below. It had to be surgically repaired with internal fixation (rods and screws). The hardware could cause a problem at any point. It was a complete break through his right humerus, which vets have stated often happens when it is stuck or something falls on it. I still tear up thinking about this experience, watching our little guy suffer like this. The surgery and vet stays cost us thousands of dollars out of pocket. It was an awful fight with Shear Pets to get even a small percentage of this covered by them. I would also like to add that I had requested a "dry bath" due to the fact that this was his first time and I didn't want him to be so scared. She quickly stated that a wet bath would be fine and went along with her own recommendation, which I trusted at the time. Artana did not suggest that I stay, as if she did I would have definitely done so. I had assumed she preferred me to leave given the small space and had trusted she would keep my cat safe, which is the least you ask. read more

I almost considered not writing this review but people should know what kind of experience they may expect when bringing their pet to a groomer. The experience started off great. We talked a lot about what the process would look like, about my cat's behavior and health, she recommended a vet that could help me with an affordable teeth cleaning, and she took my cat to start the grooming. She called me about 40 minutes later to let me know she was done so I came back outside to her van to get my cat. The groomer told me all was fine except she asked me if I had struggled to get my cat into the carrier or if my cat was clinging to the carrier when I zipped her in because I may have caught her paw. She said my cat was bleeding when she took her out of the carrier. I was surprised but to my knowledge I said I didn't think that was what happened but maybe my cat had scratched herself in the process. The groomer then told me that the cut was in her paw like in the webbing between someone's fingers between their thumb and forefinger and indicated again that she wondered if I had caught my cats paw in the zipper. She let me know that she treated my cat's wound and stopped the bleeding. And I was like "oh wow ok how bad was this cut?" And she said that it was pretty bad and that my cat's paw was dripping blood when she took her out of her carrier, but she treated the wound and all should be fine. I completely trusted her so didn't ask much more about the cut and then we continued to talk about how the the dry bath went. She also told me she'd send me brush recommendations and that she thought my cat could definitely handle a wet bath in the future. Anyway, I paid, tipped 20% and then took my cat inside the house. Let's talk about this paw wound first (pictured). There is NO WAY I could have possible zipped my cat's paw that badly without me noticing or without actually having to stop zipping. The wound is too big for a zipper to have caused that. I expected the white sherpa lining of her carrier to be covered in blood if my cat was dripping blood. There was one tiny blood spot on the sherpa (pictured). I don't know what this groomer did but I'm not sold at all that my cat could have even injured herself this badly inside the carrier. And honestly, if she just admitted to me that an accident happened and she apologized I would have been annoyed and went on with my life. The worst thing that would have happened is I wouldn't have tipped her anything and called it a day. In addition to injuring my cat and trying to blame it on me because she couldn't admit her own mistake, the grooming itself was terrible. She must have spent more time trying to treat my cat's wound and putting a little red bow tie on her than actually grooming her. She is not any softer, her coat does not look any better, and she doesn't even smell any better even though the groomer told me "I hope you like the (insert whatever scent she said) because that's what kind of product I used on her". She smells the same. She was supposed to get a little trim around her butt but that looks the same to me too. She had a weird crusty spot on the back of her neck that I had to brush out myself... maybe that was the one spot she got some dry bath treatment? When I brushed her for about 30 seconds I pulled a fistful of fur off of her (pictured). The fur on her hind legs doesn't look any better and that's the hardest place for me to brush. I thought I was paying a professional to do this for me because my cat runs and squirms from me every time I try to brush anything but her chin and cheeks. The only benefit I got out of this was her nail clipping, but at the same time that's probably how she got her paw injury. I definitely do not recommend this grooming service and sincerely am so mad at myself for even thinking this was a good idea. Never again. This has completely turned me off to any groomer. I'm just going to woman up and do the nail trimmings and baths myself in the future. And my poor cat has just been so sad ever since. She hid under my bed most of the day yesterday and she hasn't done that since the day I adopted her. Luckily today she stopped hiding but she's definitely not her normal vocal and attention seeking self. read more
