I was super worried about my pup's first time at the groomer. We found Yumi and we decided to start slow first. We scheduled her for a nail trim. We had a difficult time getting Peanut inside the shop. Yumi saw us struggling and came out to greet us. Peanut followed her in! Whew. The next time we went to see Yumi, it was full bath time. Yumi could see our worried faces and she sent photos to us the entire time to ease our fears. She told us that Peanut did great and we were super thankful and happy when we picked her up. Since then, we take Peanut to Yumi for nail clippings to get her used to her and slowly integrate her to the shop. Yumi has been patient every single time. Just this past weekend, Peanut walked into the shop without a struggle. We also scheduled my sister's dogs to get full services. They looked amazing afterwards. This shop owner truly cares about dogs and puts their well-being above everything else! My dog is very old, gets incredibly scared during baths, and is at risk for a heart attack. Instead of just taking my money, the owner was incredibly honest with me. She explained that a professional bath would be too stressful for my dog, and then took the time to teach me exactly how to maintain her hygiene safely at home. Good results but worried about groomer's temper. I've been taking my 20 pound adult dog to Yumi for a while now and while the haircuts are a bit off here and there I know it's because my pup moves around even on anxiety meds, and it comes out pretty nice overall. However, yesterday when I dropped him off, he was resistant to go in the back and Yumi pulled him by the leash attached to his collar, dragging him by the neck on the floor. I was so surprised to see that and asked her not to do it. She was holding another dog while doing this. If you can't handle two dogs at the same time, take fewer appointments and manage your reactions when entrusted with animals. All my dog needed when he saw me leave is a bit of comfort and to be picked up for a minute. Not forced away by someone starting to raise their voice. I paid and tipped because the work was done (well except the nails and ear wiping, after 2.5 hours). Despite this being a convenient location, easy to make appt online, and not the most expensive place, I am too uncomfortable with how she behaved with my dog yesterday to bring him back there, not knowing if the groomer is having a good or bad day and may be taking it out on my dog who is already in a stressful situation. read more

Very friendly staff (owner?) we had an appointment with the owner and when we arrived we mentioned our doggie is a bit wiggly during grooming. She recommended that we allow another groomer with more experience do the service. That other groomer was a part timer staff who actually trained the owner. We agreed and the cut looked great. They did the work in a couple hours. A little more expensive than our previous groomer who worked from their home. read more

I had Lynn for my pup's first groom here and was raving to everyone after, I thought I had found the one haha. Since then, she's been away, and during my last visit, Alex stepped in. He did an incredible job. The cut grew out evenly, and he paid close attention to details like the feet, ear hairs, and sensitive areas. He clearly has an eye for shaping and a lot of experience. The only thing is I love my pup's eyelashes and ask groomers not to trim them, but they got snipped again. Thankfully they grow back! This is still one of the best aesthetic grooming spots in SF. 1st groom was fantastic. Esme groomed my dog and she did a good job. The 2nd time we asked for esme again, but for some reason Yumi groomed her. And it's definitely not the same. The cut is messy and seemed rushed. Scheduling the 3rd time I specifically asked to get esme not yumi a week before. A day before my appointment someone called me saying esme is not available and that yumi has to do the groom. I said yes. And rescheduled it. Drove to drop off my dog and upon arriving yumi seemed not happy to see us. Says she can only wash my dog instead. I clarified and said you guys called me to reschedule her groom, why can't you groom her today. Yumi replied and said ok yes we can groom her. I then replied and say can I tell you how I want her cut done??? She then said no because she has really short window to groom her. THEN WHY WOULD YOU CALL ME AND RESCHEDULE THE GROOM ONLY TO TELL ME AFTER I ARRIVE THAT YOU DONT HAVE TIME TO GROOM MY DOG??? What a waste of time. And horrible way to treat your customer. The time YUMI groomed my dog, We have photos and detail instructions of what we wanted our dog to get for a cut. Did they even try to come close to what we wanted?? Not even close. Her face looks dirty. Her mouth hair is still long and untouched. Her bottom hair is not groomed. The hair on her paws are chopped so uneven. How long did it take them to groom her 15 mins??? $120 for this messy cut is horrible. read more

I'm so glad Luxe opened in my area! I've been brining my 11 year old Shih Tzu/Poodle mix, Taco, here since they opened. They're so sweet with him and treat him with extra care since he's a senior. We do the full groom with Lynn every other month and get the "tidy up" in between. Lynn is the best! It's a great feeling to know your dog is being so cared for at the groomer. We're always apprehensive when it comes to a new groomer as we've tried others and the end result has been less than ideal. Luxe was not that type of experience. I was looking for a grooming the following day but Terry, the Luxe representative I communicated with, said there was an opening same day, which worked out for us! When we brought Princess (our Maltipoo) to her appointment, we were greeted by Yumi and she broke down everything that was included in the grooming appointment. Professional and confidence was what we felt when talking to Yumi. We received a text 15 minutes before pickup and when we went to pickup, we were excited! Our excitement was not for nothing! Princess looked so much better than when we dropped her off. We were happy with the outcome and quality of service. Princess did not seem to be in distress nor seemed like she was upset (she was VERY happy to see us though). My doggies just had their long overdue grooming and bath on Monday, and I couldn't be happier with the experience. It was a last minute appt and so glad they were able to accommodate. Yumi went above and beyond in caring for my dogs. After their recent adventures - nonstop digging under our backyard fence and exploring the woods.. they came back with some ticks, and Loki may even had some matted spots with redwood sticks. Yumi let me know right away, even sending photos, and took care of everything with such thoroughness. She cleaned them up beautifully and made the whole process stress-free. Got my dog professionally groomed for the first time at Luxe Paw and it could not have gone better. He is a Chinese Crested Powderpuff with a LOT of hair and I wanted a specific look for his cut; face close shaven ears shaved but not all the way down to skin and then clean up of the rest of his coat. I booked a full service which included anal gland expression, nail trim, and ear cleaning. Huge thank you to the groomer SARAH who made us both feel at ease and was very communicative, friendly, and professional throughout the visit. She let me know right away when she actually found a small wound on my dog that needs medical attention so I was able to book a vet appointment before things got potentially worse. She also offered several options to make sure that everyone was comfortable with proceeding with the groom. I ended up on standby during the groom in case anything else came up or something went wrong with the wound, but I was not needed at all and Sarah gave him a beautiful bath and haircut without exacerbating the wound. Apparently Kiko also behaved perfectly throughout the appointment which is also thanks to Sarah's gentle handling of him because he is very nervous and can get nippy with strangers, which did not happen with Sarah. Definitely fair price for the quality of service provided. The cut is exactly what I asked for and he is unbelievably soft and smells amazing. My baby girl, Mochi, goes to Yumi for regular grooming. Mochi is 2.5 years old and was a rescue dog. We used to go to another grooming spa on Ocean Ave, and I thought she just hated showering. She asked about any allergies or special considerations, and I mentioned my puppy's sensitivity around his butt area. I'm so happy that there's finally a dog groomer that's just a few blocks away from our apartment! My dogs get very car sick so by the time we drive to our usual groomer, they're very nauseous. So it was nice for this to be our final stop on our walk. We brought them in for a full bath + grooming. The cute salon is filled with dog food and treats to purchase, and a small area for photos. The owners are quite attentive and took the time to introduce themselves to my dogs, even asking if there's anything they need to know about their behavior. My older dog on the right is very sweet and loves being groomed. My younger dog on the left, however, can be apprehensive depending on the stranger, and especially doesn't like getting his ears touched. I relayed this information to them, but I could already tell both my dogs enjoyed their presence. They let us choose how short of a groom we wanted by showing us a shave length chart and asked what kind of cut we wanted. We just wanted them to be cut short throughout. After 2 hours, my dogs were ready to be picked up. They did a great job with the haircut and I appreciate that the nails were cut down smoothly. Sometimes with other groomers, they just cut the nails without smoothing them out. They also informed me that they found a skin tag on one of my dogs and showed me a photo, which my vet hadn't caught at his last exam a few months ago! Wow, tons of reviews, all 5 stars. Good for them, I got excited. I called to ask about the pricing for my two toy poodles. The lady I spoke with explained that they do not take dogs older than 10yo, as they're currently understaffed with only two groomers. She explained some of the challenges with older dogs, how they get more fearful or are more fragile. I totally get that. My annoyance is - when I tried to ask questions about what if my dogs are different (one is extremely relaxed around groomers, and the other is as energetic as he was as a puppy) and to see if she's willing to at least meet them (and don't have to take them if she's still uncomfortable), she shut it all down and basically pushed me off the phone. I was still processing her answers and thinking, and getting ready to ask my last question, when she simply hung up on me. I've been calling several places today to compared prices, and this place was by far the rudest I've talked to. Again, I understand where she was coming from, but for crying out loud, at least finish the conversation with me! I even asked if she was in the middle of the appt and said I could call back later if it was a bad time and she said she was free, so it wasn't a case of her being in the middle of something. I'm considerate of business owners' time, and I only had a few questions. But she basically bulldozed me with long explanations of why they can't take older dogs, finished her speech, then clicked off the call. There was just no need to hang up on a potential customer with questions. So a PSA here: if your dog is 10 or older, don't bother with this place. read more

I've taken our pup to Luxe Paw ~3x now. This time I waited too long between cuts, and our dog was matted all over. As always, Yumi did a fantastic job! She explained ahead of time that she had to use a shorter clip because of the tangled hair. I really appreciated the upfront discussion. After the grooming, I realize I actually prefer this shorter hair look. Usually I wait in the front of the store. I am able to see how gentle, comforting, and patient Yumi is while she works. I can't say enough good things about Luxe Paw Grooming and the incredible care Yumi and her husband provided for my 5-month-old maltipoo. To be completely honest, my puppy is a bit of a handful. He's muzzle trained because he's a biter (maybe even part devil ), and I knew from the start that grooming would be a challenge. I had been trying to desensitize him to clippers at home, but he still wasn't a fan. When I dropped him off at 11am, I gave them a full rundown on his behavior and my concerns. By 11:30am, I got a call letting me know he was too fearful for them to continue, and I rushed back to find his body trimmed but his head untouched. I knew he would be a devil.. What really stood out to me was how kind and professional Yumi and her husband were throughout the entire situation. They were adamant about not wanting to use the muzzle to make the experience a bit more pleasant for him. Even though my puppy actually bit her husband (which he didn't even want to mention at first!), they were more concerned about helping him through the experience than anything else. Instead of turning us away, Yumi offered to give it another shot with me present. I held my puppy while her husband and my partner gently fed him treats, and together we were able to finish the grooming session. Their patience, compassion, and dedication blew me away. It's so clear they truly love dogs and want to help each one feel comfortable and cared for, no matter how difficult the case may be. Yumi also suggested bringing my pup in every two weeks just to get him used to the environment and build trust. Something no other grooming service has ever offered or even considered.
