Ruthie dog laying down like a proper lady
Eileen N.

We have always taken our dog (Ruthie) to the groomers but decided to try out a mobile option for convenience and Ruthie's comfort. Nina was very responsive, got us scheduled the same week, and arrived on-time. I feel like no sooner did I hand Ruthie over to start her bath was she coming right back out completely transformed. It's like Nina had a second look-alike dog in the van, just a cleaner version. Ruthie is a complete wiggle-worm so I was surprised Nina was able to wash her, dry her, and do her nails so quickly and without any restraint. I know we have a new groomer and Ruthie has a new friend!

Happy coco Chanel after her spa session!

Nina is so accommodating and prompt when she says she will be there. Also very responsive to inquiries which I deem is number one in business. Can't say the same about most of the others that we have left messages. My puppy was fresh and clean smelling after her spa treatment and she was very happy with the bath and nail trim! Definitely highly recommended this establishment!

I tried to find a photo that shows how shiny his coat is. This is the day after his most recent appointment with Nina.

There are already a lot of positive reviews about Nina, and I don't write reviews very often, but I feel compelled because my dog loves her so much. I've got an 8-month old American Pit Bull Terrier mix from the shelter. He's about 65 pounds, strong, and energetic. Nina first saw him when he was about 4-5 months old. Of course when he's done, his coat is clean, soft, shiny, and smells great. But there are two additional things that stand out for me. One is how great Nina is at trimming his nails. I was terrible at it myself (and even hurt him one time by clipping too short; killed me). Because he's a big energetic puppy, he doesn't sit still for nails. So I hold him and give him little treats while she trims nail by nail (outdoors with masks on due to covid). She actually clips 3-5 quick little clips *per nail*, essentially shaping the nail. I'm blown away. (Apparently if your dog is OK with the Dremel-like grinder, she'll use that). The second is how my dog responded for the second appointment, which I always consider when assessing services like this. When I took him outside for his second visit and walked up to her van, as soon as he saw Nina and remembered who she was, he was overjoyed, pulled right towards her wagging his tail and now he even sings/howls with joy. He loves getting in the vehicle for his appointment. I go up to my apartment and Nina takes care of the rest. She texts me when it's time to come hold him for his nails. She's respectful of covid and wears her mask even though we're outdoors, which I love.

Look who was good at the doggy wash and got a giant biscuit!

I'll be honest, I wasn't sure how I felt about a mobile dog wash, but Nina has convinced me that this is the best thing ever! The entire experience was completely stress-free for me as the owner as Xena, my new furry accomplice, does not like riding in cars. Not only that, but Nina tries to park as close to your home as she can, meaning the wash is just outside of your door (or less than a block away). Nina was a real pleasure to get to know while she was rinsing and shampooing my dog-- She truly loves all dogs and has really dedicated her career and life to her business. After many subpar experiences with deliveries, movers, etc, I was pleasantly surprised to find out Nina had arrived at our appointment time. But not only this surprised me, Nina was also super gentle and great with Xena. I left when they were drying, but upon coming back, Nina had trimmed some stray tufts of fur from Xena's paws, cut her nails, and finished drying her off. Although Xena was still a little damp, but I'm glad Nina didn't force her dry because Xena is scared of vacuums and dryer sounds. Xena is smelling fresh, looking extra poof and clean, and even got a giant dog biscuit out of this whole ordeal! Not too bad for a close-to-home doggy spa, huh? I'm looking forward to seeing Nina before Thanksgiving for another doggy wash. Hopefully the experience will continue to be as great as it had been for the both of us today!

Max looking very content during his mobile grooming appointment :)

Nina has been taking care of our rescue Max (German Shepherd mix) since late 2018. Max has skin allergies and requires regular bathing to keep it under control along with monthly allergy shots. Nina is very sweet with our gentle giant, he absolutely loves her. She's coming every week currently and he's actually excited to see her (when's the last time your dog was excited about getting a bath???) Last week Nina gave us a picture of Max that she took during his bath - see attached (she has a portable printer in her van - the picture is actually a sticker!) As you can see, he looks very content. We can't say enough good things about Nina! We're so grateful she comes over the GG Bridge to Sausalito to take care of our boy.

glow-up success!

Wow! Nina gave my 13 yr old terrier a lovely glow up. So clean, so handsome and a nail trim that would impress the fanciest SF nail salon!

Nina is absolutely amazing. I couldn't believe how great it would be to have a clean, happy pup. She handled my 100 pound great Dane with grace and finesse. I couldn't believe that after his first bath, nail trim, and blow dry, when Nina came to drop him off, he actually wanted to interact with her even more (wagging his tail happily). She made it such a positive experience for Herman, and I now have the utmost confidence in leaving my sweet shy dog in her care. Nina's personality is also amazing - such an energetic and positive person. I'd give a hundred stars if I could! This is the kind of local business that is fun to support!

I was dog sitting for my good friend who was out of town and due to Covid her poor dog had not been groomed in forever! The whole staff was amazing and so kind to her. Billy did an excellent job grooming her and he was so gentle with her considering she is 17 years old, deaf, and a little blind. She was also so matted and dirty, he had to cut her very short but it was so necessary!Honestly, it didn't seem like he wanted to give her back. You can tell that he truly loves dogs and was enamored with her. She definitely got her pep back in her step once she had all that hair removed from her face. My friend and I were so thankful that they were open and for their great services!

Our maltipoo in particular had very difficult grooming experiences prior to Dennise. Dennise is dedicated to serving every dog she grooms regardless of age and temperament. We can attest that she built a strong relationship with our maltipoo that has helped her feel more at ease being groomed (a true feat). Dennise also is the only groomer we have trusted with our bernedoodle puppy which has clearly paid off: our puppy seems to truly enjoy hanging out with all the groomers and other pups when she is in the shop. Dennise is clearly passionate about her work and it is an added bonus that she gives her clients excellent hair cuts. Shout out also to Brian for all of his hard work behind the scenes keeping the business side streamlined. He is kind, friendly, and makes scheduling appointments easy for us which is greatly appreciated. We look forward to continuing to work with Dennise and Brian for many years to come. TLDR; Highly recommend VIP grooming to any dog owners in SF who are looking for compassionate groomers who are passionate about individualizing dogs' care and serving their clients with the upmost professionalism!

They were careless with the lives of YOUR animals. Two dogs without collars or leashes ran out onto the sidewalk behind her and luckily followed her to the other side of the store. They could have just as easily run into the street without collars and been killed! I yelled out about the gate and the lady DIDN'T EVEN REALIZE DOGS WERE FOLLOWING HER. Then she carried one dog back to the other side and the other dog, again without a collar or leash just walked back onto the sidewalk and back to the other side again. They were lucky these two dogs were so well behaved but no matter how well behaved a dog is, they should ALWAYS be on leash when out on the sidewalk. Fortunately all the dogs are safe, but seeing this carelessness I would NEVER BRING MY DOG BACK HERE. If they are that careless with other peoples beloved animals they shouldn't even have a business. Do not trust them to protect your animal while in their care. ** edit in response to owner below: Well it seems other commenters have seen the same, including with their own dogs being off leash outside. So I highly doubt what you're saying is true. Either way, never bringing my dog here again and I'm going to continue to tell others the same. Lastly, if you let shops dogs outside off leash then you are still an irresponsible dog owner. Leashes are required by law for a reason. If you don't care enough about your own dogs to leash them outside, I don trust you with my dogs. You should be fined and your dogs taken before they are harmed.

But sometimes we love animals in a way that supports their exploitation and harms them. The issue is that this store is misguidedly treating these sentient beings like merchandise by buying them from breeders (possibly even breeding mills, they would not tell me where they get birds from) then selling them to make money. Birds, and no animal, should be bought/sold for profit and in doing so we are commodifying them and contributing to the existing crisis of birds who are already in need of homes. If people stop buying/selling birds, people would instead adopt them from rescues and shelters and alleviate the stress and burden on rescuers while getting animals who actually need homes in to homes, instead of breeding more and more in to existence. Additionally, many birds suffer immensely in captivity and rip our their own feathers out of distress (a behavior that does not happen in the wild) these animals are not domesticated, are highly social and should be living in huge flocks and flying free in their natural habitats. I really hope someday this store will do the right thing and prioritize what is in the best interest of the animals by ceasing to buy birds from exploitative breeders and selling them like merchandise for profit, and instead host adoption events with local bird rescues as there are thousands of birds who desperately need forever homes. I love pet stores and I shop at them all the time as I have 20+ rescued animals I need supplies for. The vast majority of pet stores in SF thrive without selling animals, and I know the Animal Company can too! :) The folks at the Animal Company are nice people and my concerns are not a personal attack on them.

If they haven't had the item I'm seeking, they make helpful suggestions. Longer: I have an extremely picky cat and there have been times over the years I've forgotten to order her special food or the delivery is delayed, so then I go hunting through the City. Plus, I love animals and stopping in a mom and pop pet shop "just to see what there is" happens frequently xD Unfortunately, the Animal Company hasn't carried what I needed in the past, as the cat and dog food selection is fairly limited (yet varied) given the hundreds of varieties of foods nowadays. I digress... just last weekend my kitty's special kidney food was delayed in transit and the lil chonker ate through her last order in record time. Kitty has gotten accustomed to a mix of kidney+core wellness and she let us know allllllll night Friday into Saturday that her food was not right. After two nights in a row of poor sleep, I was determined to find (Weruva) Wx Low Phos tilapia+tuna somewhere in the City. PFE website says they have it, but no stores have in stock (thank goddess I called before trekking). Called a few of the smaller shops around town with no luck. As options were dwindling, I gave The Animal Company a call and imagine my surprise when a cheery voice on the other end of the phone confirmed they did indeed have what I was looking for! It was 4th of July and the person on the phone informed me they were closing early, around 3pm, and put 4 cans of food aside for me. I immediately hopped off the couch and we got on our way to the J. Within an hour I had kidney friendly food plus some kidney friendly treats (!! Wx Low Phos new product) in hand, a full belly (stopped at Subs Inc. across the street), and we were on our way back home. Note: yes, about half+ the store is dedicated to birbs. I'm glad I took some time to read reviews+Rick's responses here on Yelp, 'cause admittedly it made me a lil sad to see some of the birbs in the store, I realize now I subconsciously avoided it. Turns out, many of the birbs in store are being boarded (and very! well cared for). Totally understandable some may look sad given they're in a new environment and very likely missing their humans. I know my kitty would be absolutely out of sorts if taken out of home while I was away (and sure, birbs are different than cats, but these birbs are VERY smart). I've been following a woman on YT, I think a random covid SiP stumble, who has educated me on these magnificent, fascinating creatures (birbs).
