We've been here twice in our four days in Jefferson. Excellent lunch and the pies/cobblers are amazing.

Some friends of ours told us about this place and said it was a must try. We were in the area and hung around to opening time to get to experience what the rave was about. It is a unique idea. I would like the cornbread to taste more like cornbread but I do understand that they have to make it less crumbly, more like sandwich bread. That changes the flavor. I had the chili sandwich with Fritos. That was a recommendation from the staff to Caddo Lake State Park My hubs had the burger. Both were tasty. Dessert was apple pie and key lime pie. They were good. It's a unique place to try and I am glad we did. Would I come back? Probably not. Maybe my expectations were too high? I don't know. It was good and unique but I can't go above that. I did like the covers on the benches this is so you do t stick. I liked that they served the food on real plates. No skimping. Atmosphere was good. If you are looking for a unique place - stop in Kitt's in Jefferson, TX. Great town to walk around. Lots of history. read more

The menu is centered on cornbread, sandwiches, soups and salads; with a decent choice selection. There is also a large selection of pies. We had the Texas chili and corn bread. Note, that the corn bread is delicious, it's moist and flavorful. The chili was tasty, no beans with plenty of meat. Added chopped red onions and jalapeños made it savory. We also had the cheeseburger on cornbread and it was also delicious. Had side salads that were basic, but the broccoli salad, which resembles a Cole slaw was excellent. The pies we had were delicious too, key lime, peanut butter pie, and pecan pie. Those we took home because we were full from our entrees. Prices were a bit high, but the quality of the food and the service provided made the prices reasonable. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with this place. The service was great. I felt like I was being served by my friend and not a stranger. It's a cute place with an old fashioned atmosphere, like stepping back in time. I'd still call it a hole in the wall but those are the best!!!!!! The pie was THE BEST part of this lunch! read more

What a joke. I ordered their original, two pieces of cornbread with store bought sliced turkey a slice of tomato, mayo and store bought sliced cheese. & a small bag of chips! My wife had the Texan, it appeared and tasted like Hormel Chili between two pieces of cornbread with 1 slice of Jalapeno. And a small bag of chips. What a terrible excuse for restaurant food. Place was cute and quite busy. Art all around the shop for sale. Chicken salad wrap was good, had cranberries, chicken, mayo and lettuce, Bag of chips and pickle spear. Wish I had a fork to eat the insides because the wrap didn't stay closed. read more

Very cute little place super kind service and the food was delicious. I've never thought of having a sandwich on cornbread before, but it was absolutely delicious. The cornbread is a light and fluffy and very tasty. Their broccoli salad is delicious as were the chicken and dumplings. My kids normally don't eat anything and really enjoyed their stewp and their Frito pie. And the pies there were divine. I will say service was a little slow because there was only three people working and it was during the memorial day weekend, so I think the poor things were just slammed, but they were very gracious and kind . Just don't expect a quick dining experience there, but you will be very rewarded read more

Yep, they make some of the absolute best jalapeño cornbread I've ever had. Wow! We also got the Frito pie and broccoli salad. Both delicious! I wasn't very hungry when we stopped but I could've easily eaten that whole Frito pie. Speaking of pie, we got two very berry pie slices to go... outstanding! It rivaled Fredericksburg Pie Company. Cute place within walking distance of my hotel. Like most of the town, it's an older building that is dated, but clean and quaint. I arrived at 11:28 with one couple ahead of me and the door opened promptly at 11:30 where we were sat immediately as at least 20 other folks began crossing the streets to come in. With 75% of the businesses here being closed the first part of the week, this is obviously the "go-to" spot for a lot of the locals. Kitt herself waited on me and I was sat and had my food in about 5 minutes. I had the cheeseburger on jalapeño with a small side of frito chili pie. Both were good and the perfect size meal for lunch. But when I saw that they had key lime pie, I had to try it. Most places will just add lime juice to a cream cheese base which is always disappointing for me. This, however, was the custard-like texture with actual KEY lime in it that I'm always hoping for. Right on the edge of too tart but not, balanced with the sweet, and a hand formed crust. This is the BEST key lime pie I've personally ever had. read more

We went to this restaurant yesterday since we were visiting from out of town. Would NOT recommend. The waitress/ cashier was unfriendly and rushed. The chicken and dumplings soup tasted awful. I love supporting hole in the wall, local, mom and pop shops. As soon I arrived, I learned that this restaurant had a twist on their sandwiches - all the bread was cornbread. I didn't even know that could be a thing! I decided to go all in and try it. Why not, right? I was pleasantly surprised at the food. Not great, but not bad for a sandwich either. My only other complaint was the portion size. I would have ordered two sandwiches to get full. -1 star for the food not being great. The dessert was okay. Would have been much better if it was truly chilled. I came in on a Saturday afternoon, and they were not too busy by time we ordered our food. After we put in the order, the staff only came back to our table once or twice. No refills, and I had to get their attention to get the check. -1 star for the lack of service. I wouldn't go out of my way for this restaurant, but would try again if the BBQ next door doesn't meet my fancy. read more

This is my fourth trip to Caddo lake and I still haven't eaten at Kitt's Kornbread. Well, this weekend just happened to be the EAST TEXAS BURN RUN, a biker rally benefiting children burn victims. Folks, there was an easy 2 to 3 thousand bikes there. It was amazing. So many people coming together to benefit the children. Anyway, by the time we looked at bikes, visited the vendors, and talked to who knows how many people, it was time to eat. The line at Kitt's was out the door and down the sidewalk! But we waited, and waited. We're finally inside and at a table. Their selection of combo meals is excellent. All sandwiches are on Kornbread instead of bread. Different, but good! We did the Sicilian with broccoli salad, the Club with frito pie, a turkey wrap, and chicken and dumplings. Everything was delicious, definitely 4/5. There probably 20 different pies, but we're too full! Next time. Go to Kitt's! read more

Such a little gem in a small town. Great place for a casual lunch. But, make sure to save room for pie. Created by friendly small town folks at the door. I got the Redneck which is fried bologna on jalapeño corn bread and the Dumpling Soup. The corn bread is like bread, but corn bread, yet bread. Look I don't understand the science of it all. Trust me, it's delicious. The dumplings are thick and creamy. Now let's get to the pie. I've been waiting. lol. Jacob got the double chocolate cherry pie. It's like a chocolate silk pie with cherries, whipped cream and chocolate shavings on top. WOW! It was so delicious. I could've ate his whole piece, but he wouldn't allow that. Now the chocolate pecan pie was served warm. It was like a creamy brownie with a pecan pie crust on top. You know when you taste something sweet and you just go somewhere else and that smile creeps across your face? Well, that's what happened. It took me to that childish place in my heart. First, the good. We loved the cornbread sandwich, and the service was great. We also had the chicken & dumplings as a side, and it was just average. No big deal! Now, the bad. We had a slice of buttermilk pie, and, to be honest, it was horrible. It felt like it was made a week ago and was retrieved from the refrigerator. My wife thought it must have been bought from a Walmart. I love every kind of pie, but I could only eat 2 bites of this ghastly excuse for a "homemade" pie. We didn't tell the manager because we didn't want her to think we wanted a refund I would go back at some point but will definitely try a different pie and ask about it beforehand! read more

We were passing through on our way home from Cincinnati to Houston and decided to eat at Kitt's because we were craving some Texas Chili. I am so happy we stumbled across this little gem, because it was seriously the best chili I've ever tasted. We ordered the chili sandwich, chicken and dumplings and apple pie for dessert. The chili was the right consistency, seasoned to perfection and I ate every last bite! The chicken and dumplings tastes just as good, if not better than my grandma's. The only thing that might turn people off from this place is that there was a bit of a wait to get our order in. It's a small town, and a little slower paced, but soooo worth the wait.
