Bark's does not have a formal policy for dealing with injuries to dogs within their care. And…read morebecause of their negligence, our family dog died from injuries sustained at Bark's. Please read on to be a better informed dog owner seeking boarding for your pet. For nearly a decade, my family had a rescue named Harry - we called him "Handsome Harry". He was a very small dog, but he made up for that with personality. He had a white tip on his tail that would become a blur when he wagged his tail enthusiastically. In October 2018, Harry was bitten at Bark's Play and Stay. He must have been bitten by a much larger dog, as there were large puncture wounds on either side of his head. On the Saturday that Harry was bitten, which we understand can and may happen, BUT my mother was not called by Bark's to notify my family about the injury, nor was he taken to the vet. On Sunday, when my mother arrived to pick him up, his head was swollen, he was dehydrated, and nearly unresponsive. He was taken to an emergency vet on Monday, where the vet informed us that his injuries had started to abscess. Harry died the next day, and it left my family devastated. All we wanted, was for Bark's Play and Stay to create a formal policy and process to better protect dogs in their care in the future. My mother recently reviewed Bark's stating the same thing, and her account was conveniently reported as fraudulent to Facebook - and thus the review has temporarily been removed. We just want owners to be informed, so what happened to Handsome Harry never happens to another dog under their care again.

I reached out with one straightforward question…read morebefore boarding my two dogs: what is the plan for the animals if a wildfire evacuation order is issued while I am out of state and cannot pick them up. That is a reasonable question in Grand Junction, especially during fire season and the current state of emergency. Instead of an answer, I was told about a fire hydrant and the back yards, which is a plan for a fire inside the building, not a regional evacuation. When I asked again, I was told they did not have those answers but were not worried about it because they are within city limits. Rather than provide an evacuation plan, or admit they did not have one and offer to make one, they ended the conversation, declined my business, and told me it had been hard communicating with me. I asked a safety question twice and was treated as the problem for asking it. A boarding facility that cannot say what happens to the animals in its care during an emergency, and that responds to a concerned owner by dismissing the concern and dropping the customer, is not one I can recommend. Not having an answer is one thing. Being unwilling to take the question seriously is another.

I had a very disappointing experience and unfortunately cannot recommend this facility…read more After my dog stayed for four nights, he came home with clear shave/scissor marks on his back and hind legs. I did not ask or pay for any grooming services. I was given conflicting explanations from staff - one stating he got caught under a gate, and another suggesting rough play with another dog. This inconsistency and lack of ownership has left me feeling confused and concerned about the level of supervision and transparency. I was also made aware of a hazardous area in the small-dog play space, which had not been addressed. While I did receive a partial refund for Monday's daycare, the situation remains unresolved. I have not received the refund for his bath as promised by the owner, and there was an additional $18 charge posted to a different card on file without explanation. I followed up via email and have not received a response for several days. Overall, the lack of clear communication, accountability, and follow-through has been frustrating. I trusted that my dog would be safe and well cared for, and this experience did not meet those expectations. I have included photos. Including images that they posted themselves to their Facebook on Saturday - then what is coat looked like directly after picking him up.
