I've been to Kitty's Cosmopolitan a few times in the last year, and it's become one of my favorite speakeasies. Atmosphere is dim, intimate, and sexy. Volume is low enough to have conversations. The only caveat is that a few tables are a bit close together. I do not personally drink. But everyone I've gone with has loved their drinks. The food menu is small but very good. We came down to Kitty's for after dinner drinks once we left Crying Tiger. As you go down the stairs to the entrance, we were greeted by the host at the check-in station (Jeffrey). He was quite stylish in his appearance and was very pleasant to talk to. We were immediately seated and he was kind enough to pull out my chair for me to sit...The Queen sat in the booth. The décor is very chic and cool, lots of green and gold, with low lights and velvet seats. While it did not resemble the Champagne Cave in what use to be Marchesa from a color scheme perspective, Kitty's has that same vibe of being a nice place to just chill over an adult beverage or to have a light snack since they also do serve food. Because we had dinner upstairs, we did not order food. Our server came over and introduced himself but I didn't catch his name as The Queen was asking me something at that time. He asked if it was our first time at the joint and we responded in the affirmative. He welcomed us and showed us the drink menu. He later returned with warm towels for us to refresh ourselves. After that, he returned to offer us a complimentary drink, with your choice of an alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage. Along with that we each received a small dish of almonds and other nuts to snack on. As I am a bubbles woman, I stuck with a glass of the Nominé Renard, Brut, NV. The Queen got a 20th Century (Cream Cheese Washed Hendricks, London Dry Gin, Creme De Cacao, Kir, Blanche Armagnac, Lemon Distillate) and The Doctor got a single malt whisky (don't recall which one, but he loved it). While we were having our drinks, we saw one table order the Kitty's Gin Martini, which is prepared tableside. The glassware that the drink was served in looked amazing and I have to say that the pageantry was on point, with dried ice creating that lovely fog effect. I am not a fan of gin martinis, so this is not something I would try, but would give the Japanese Whisky Old Fashion a try just to do the floor show. Let me state that the drinks range in price from $22 to $55, so if this seems on the high side, I would argue that most cocktail bars are charging the same price range for drinks, some even more. I would not have a problem coming here a intimate night out of cocktailing the old school way. In addition to the décor, Kitty's had a chilled playlist going as well. I can see myself coming here for after dinner drinks again, but The Queen and I talked about coming back so we could try their dumplings as we love dumplings and dim sum. Honestly, I was pretty disappointed in their drinks. We were sat pretty quickly for our reservation. No waiting. However, a reservation is NEEDED. Usually fully booked and no space for walk-ins. Service was good. Our server was friendly and walked us through the menu. They started us out with an amuse bouche small drink. We tried the spirited one and I did not like this at all. I did not finish it. For main drinks, I got the Tequila Daisy. This was really good. Not too strong. On the lighter side for a tequila drink. My husband got the Whisky Coke. Neither of us liked this one at all. I had a very distinct Robitussin taste. Hard pass. We also got the chocolate truffles. They had like a weird ingredient which gave it a weird flavor. Would not recommend. Overall, our experience was a bust. Doubtful that we will come back, but will have to try different drinks if we do. read more

I stopped in earlier this week on a last-minute invite. I was happy to go, especially since I still haven't had the chance to visit the Crying Tiger restaurant. First off, I loved the decor. The space is elegant and artfully designed, and there really doesn't seem to be a bad seat in the place. It's definitely somewhere I could see taking a date. The staff were excellent, knowledgeable, and extremely polite. They were also helpful with recommendations, which I always appreciate when visiting somewhere for the first time. I didn't have anything from the main menu this time, but the small snacks were perfect to enjoy with a few drinks. Overall, I really enjoyed my first visit and am definitely looking forward to returning, trying more of their drinks, and sampling more of what they have to offer. read more

The cocktails were definitely the highlight. Strong but surprisingly easy to drink, and each round came with complimentary snacks which was a nice touch. The Kitty's Gin Martini (5/10) had tableside service, which was cool, and I got it with lemon twist. The 55° gin made it taste very strong which was not my thing. The Stirred Cosmo (7/10) was smooth and easy to drink. The Tequila Daisy (8/10) was sweet and even easier to drink. The 20th Century (7.5/10) had chocolatey flavors that reminded me of the welcome shot, just stronger. The Whiskey Coke (7/10) surprisingly tasted more like coffee than whiskey Coke, which I actually liked. The Genmai Chocolate Truffles (7.5/10) were crispy on the outside with a smooth chocolate ganache inside. The Yellowfin Tuna Crudo (3/10) was refreshing but wasn't really my thing. The Brandy Alexander Cream Puff (3/10) had a nice cognac cream filling, but the pastry tasted a little stale. Overall, I'd definitely come back for the cocktails and vibes. We were able to do a walk in as a group of 5 with no reservation but was told they can only accommodate us for 45 mins which we were ok with. Lol funny thing is we kept talking about our memories of this place as hub 51 on top and then how much we partied in this room which used to be the underground. Many st patty's were celebrated here but how times have changed in our 30s to now be enjoying this lounge setting speakeasy. Service was good but the drinks took some time to receive. lol a few sips in and our time was up if that makes sense. It would have been nice if they said relax till the other party arrives but they were kind of put off ish. The servers could do a little better. The guy at check in though was very nice. What an amazing find! We were dining upstairs at Crying Tiger when I headed downstairs to the restroom and stumbled upon this hidden speakeasy bar. Naturally, I had to ask how to get in. Jeffrey kindly added us to the waitlist while we finished dinner upstairs, and we received a text as soon as our table was ready. When we arrived, Jeffrey checked us in and we were taken care of by our server, Taylor. The entire staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The vibe is chill yet classy, perfect for unwinding. Kitty's Cosmopolitan Club is a hidden gem tucked beneath Crying Tiger in River North. Despite being in a tourist-heavy area, the space feels removed from all of that. Low lighting, velvet seating, and a genuinely debonair atmosphere without feeling overdone. Many of the mixologists also work at Three Dots and a Dash, and the cocktail program reflects that. Drinks are polished, balanced, and confidently executed. They start you off with a palate cleanser and small complimentary nibbles, plus there are a few bites available on the menu. Chicago bars love claiming they serve the coldest martini in town, and Kitty's makes a strong case for it. The tableside martini service was excellent, as was the Old Fashioned service. Was pretty surprised by the larger portion sizes of their apps. The Rosita came with a raspberry chocolate that paired well with my drink. Excited to come back and try their other drinks since they have a larger selection of fat washed drinks. 7/8/26: went back to try other drinks. Ordered the 20th century since i wanted to try another fat washed drink and i loved the honeycomb accompaniment and the flavor of the cocktail but it was sooooo strong. Also ordered the caviar chips and dip - overall good, had stronger French onion flavor but i loved that. I haven't had cocktails this delicious in Chicago in a very long time. Interior design will have you thinking you're at a fancy dinner party as the staff are adorned in velvet jackets. The welcome rum drink was so delicious that I ordered it as a full size cocktail. Vieux carre was amongst the better ones in the city albeit being on the juicier side of the spectrum. I also liked the rob roy. The cocktails have crazy balances to them. Walk ins are possible if you're patient. It's not without fault. Service was slow, cocktails aren't the strongest but I'm starting to believe that's the price you pay for flavor. Wagyu dim sum was merely ok but the sauce made it better. In closing in you enjoy bourgeois cocktails at a medium price point then get here asap. Speakeasies are my hobby. Kitty's Cosmopolitan Club marks my 324 addition to the "been there list". Thus I know of what I speak when I say that Kitty's scores a very respectable A- on my scale. It was only lacking in that it was "too easy" to find (the entry is always very important in the speakeasy experience). Beyond that slight disappointment, Kitty made up for it in sheer class and friendliness. Everyone from the host to my bartender were spot on professionals (and the kinda people who are just cool to hang out with). The mixology was solid (although not over the top). Definitely more geared towards the martini (gin) experience than any other aspect of mixology. The bar bites were also top notch. The over all atmosphere was moody and dark. I am going to regret this review because Kitty's already has a lot of attention on social media and it is becoming difficult to get a reservation but it lives up to all the hype!!! First, let me say that often times the host/hostess position isn't recognized enough. We were greeted at the door by a warm, welcoming, and friendly host. He set the tone for what was to follow. I can't say enough about him and how much I appreciated his skillset! The room is BEAUTIFUL and it took me back to days gone by. It was elegant, tasteful, classy yet inviting. The busser greeted us and offered water which cane on a small gold tray. We never needed to ask for more water because he was so attentive. Our server was friendly and welcoming and went over the menu with us. We ordered the stirred cosmopolitan which came with a lovely lime meringue garnish. The drink was balanced and delicious. We were given a small serving of Marcona almonds which was a nice touch. My daughter is a vegetarian so we ordered the vegetable gyoza and they were very good! The sauces were excellent! I need to mention the food expeditor as well, he was knowledgable and very nice. Next, we had a glass of champagne which was perfect! I am a champagne drinker and it exceeded my expectations. Again, we were given a small snack. Honestly, this was all the way around a great experience in hospitality!! There wasn't a miss! The entire staff worked as a team and each member got the memo... Kitty's Cosmopolitan Club is a new addition to the cocktail scene. It is located directly underneath Crying Thaiger. You need to walk through Crying Tiger's bar to get to the stairs to go down to enter the space. The host is very friendly and accommodating at the door. I highly recommend getting reservations although they do accept walk-ins when space is available. It is a very nice, upscale space with a great ambience. Just note though that the tables are very close together and you will be very close to your neighbors. In our case, we were seated next to a group of three, and they really needed to scrunch up to stay on their side of the couch. We really enjoyed the cocktails that we ordered. I had one of the cocktails from the cold room and it was excellent and extremely cold as advertised which was great. Our server was quite friendly and easy to work with. We did not feel rushed at all. They do prepare some of the cocktails table side and that is a really nice addition and good show. We did not order any of those so I can't comment on what those cocktails taste like. The evening starts out with a warm towel, followed by an opportunity to taste one of two small drinks prior to ordering your cocktails. The choices include one that has alcohol or one that is non-alcoholic. We tried both and they were good. They follow that with some spiced Marconi almonds, along with the water of your choice, which were excellent. The glassware and the presentation is beautiful. All of that is complementary. We did not have any food as we were heading to dinner after our cocktails. The final bill comes in a nice cover and is actually metal with a QR code on it. Very elegant.
