I stopped in earlier this week on a last-minute invite. I was happy to go, especially since I still haven't had the chance to visit the Crying Tiger restaurant. First off, I loved the decor. The space is elegant and artfully designed, and there really doesn't seem to be a bad seat in the place. It's definitely somewhere I could see taking a date. The staff were excellent, knowledgeable, and extremely polite. They were also helpful with recommendations, which I always appreciate when visiting somewhere for the first time. I didn't have anything from the main menu this time, but the small snacks were perfect to enjoy with a few drinks. Overall, I really enjoyed my first visit and am definitely looking forward to returning, trying more of their drinks, and sampling more of what they have to offer.

The cocktails were definitely the highlight. Strong but surprisingly easy to drink, and each round came with complimentary snacks which was a nice touch. The Kitty's Gin Martini (5/10) had tableside service, which was cool, and I got it with lemon twist. The 55° gin made it taste very strong which was not my thing. The Stirred Cosmo (7/10) was smooth and easy to drink. The Tequila Daisy (8/10) was sweet and even easier to drink. The 20th Century (7.5/10) had chocolatey flavors that reminded me of the welcome shot, just stronger. The Whiskey Coke (7/10) surprisingly tasted more like coffee than whiskey Coke, which I actually liked. The Genmai Chocolate Truffles (7.5/10) were crispy on the outside with a smooth chocolate ganache inside. The Yellowfin Tuna Crudo (3/10) was refreshing but wasn't really my thing. The Brandy Alexander Cream Puff (3/10) had a nice cognac cream filling, but the pastry tasted a little stale. Overall, I'd definitely come back for the cocktails and vibes. The drinks are creative and the bar experiences make it feel special, while the food was definitely more hit or miss.

We were able to do a walk in as a group of 5 with no reservation but was told they can only accommodate us for 45 mins which we were ok with. Lol funny thing is we kept talking about our memories of this place as hub 51 on top and then how much we partied in this room which used to be the underground. Many st patty's were celebrated here but how times have changed in our 30s to now be enjoying this lounge setting speakeasy. Service was good but the drinks took some time to receive. lol a few sips in and our time was up if that makes sense. It would have been nice if they said relax till the other party arrives but they were kind of put off ish. The servers could do a little better. The guy at check in though was very nice. We will be returning next time to try crying tiger too

this was such a sexy and cute bar, i can't wait to come back to chicago again. the interior design oozes a very unique and moody atmosphere, and the service was amazing and considerate. the crafted cocktails and wagyu dumplings were the star of the show evening, in addition to the best restaurant bathroom ever! i highly recommend coming here, i initially booked a solo experience, but some cool people that turned into a party of three and the receptionist really worked to accommodate us. long story short, date night, girls night, or solo night, come here if you're looking for an aesthetic that doubles as a sensory experience.

Super expensive ($25 per drink), the service was slow and passive aggressive to my group at times. The interior is really dark, could be just a touch brighter. I personally didn't try the food but my party wished there were more veggie gyoza for the price

What an amazing find! We were dining upstairs at Crying Tiger when I headed downstairs to the restroom and stumbled upon this hidden speakeasy bar. Naturally, I had to ask how to get in. Jeffrey kindly added us to the waitlist while we finished dinner upstairs, and we received a text as soon as our table was ready. When we arrived, Jeffrey checked us in and we were taken care of by our server, Taylor. The entire staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The vibe is chill yet classy, perfect for unwinding. They even greeted us with a small welcome cocktail and nuts, which was a nice touch. The drinks were delicious, and the whole experience felt like a hidden gem. Overall, such a great and unexpected find--perfect for a date night!

6/7/26: Super cute vibe inside (slightly questionable music). Had the feeling of an upscale bar and the experience starting off with some house tasters. Was pretty surprised by the larger portion sizes of their apps. The Rosita came with a raspberry chocolate that paired well with my drink. Excited to come back and try their other drinks since they have a larger selection of fat washed drinks. 7/8/26: went back to try other drinks. Ordered the 20th century since i wanted to try another fat washed drink and i loved the honeycomb accompaniment and the flavor of the cocktail but it was sooooo strong. Also ordered the caviar chips and dip - overall good, had stronger French onion flavor but i loved that. The tuna crudo was a hit again - it ended up slightly more lemony than last time and i liked that.

Kitty's Cosmo was great. Reservations can be tough to get, but the experience was worth it. The service was attentive, the space was beautiful. They start you off with small complimentary drinks before the cocktails, and the jasmine tea was especially good. The cocktails themselves were also really well done. Definitely a spot I'd come back to.

I haven't had cocktails this delicious in Chicago in a very long time. Interior design will have you thinking you're at a fancy dinner party as the staff are adorned in velvet jackets. The welcome rum drink was so delicious that I ordered it as a full size cocktail. Vieux carre was amongst the better ones in the city albeit being on the juicier side of the spectrum. I also liked the rob roy. The cocktails have crazy balances to them. Walk ins are possible if you're patient. It's not without fault. Service was slow, cocktails aren't the strongest but I'm starting to believe that's the price you pay for flavor. Wagyu dim sum was merely ok but the sauce made it better. In closing in you enjoy bourgeois cocktails at a medium price point then get here asap. It's also no coincidence that their sister bar next door was just named amongst 50 best bars in the country

Speakeasies are my hobby. Kitty's Cosmopolitan Club marks my 324 addition to the "been there list". Thus I know of what I speak when I say that Kitty's scores a very respectable A- on my scale. It was only lacking in that it was "too easy" to find (the entry is always very important in the speakeasy experience). Beyond that slight disappointment, Kitty made up for it in sheer class and friendliness. Everyone from the host to my bartender were spot on professionals (and the kinda people who are just cool to hang out with). The mixology was solid (although not over the top). Definitely more geared towards the martini (gin) experience than any other aspect of mixology. The bar bites were also top notch. The over all atmosphere was moody and dark. Great for vanishing off in the shadows for an intimate date experience.

Kitty's Cosmopolitan Club has a really intimate vibe, and the décor is stylish and thoughtfully done--it definitely sets the mood for a nice evening. The drinks were good overall, but nothing particularly memorable; most of them leaned a bit too sweet for our taste. The desserts were just average and didn't really stand out. Between the cream puff and the truffles, we preferred the truffles. Service was on the slower side, though our server was friendly and pleasant throughout. Overall, it was a decent experience, but there's room for improvement.

Had drinks here on a rainy summer evening. Very surprised we were able to snag reservations but it was certainly busy yet intimate. Great ambiance, creative cocktails, certainly a highlight for our trip to Chicago

    Joan N.

Hard to snag a reservation but set a notify me to grab a time. Service is outstanding and attentive starting with the host. Menu is small so don't expect a lot of variety or options. Food was delicious, drinks pretty but as expected overpriced. Great vibe overall and worth going at least once.

Let me just say this first... the ambiance is SO chic! I loved all the pictures and the vinyls throughout the restaurant. I came a little after brunch, so they had a live DJ spinning some really good, easy music. It was definitely a vibe. I had the pleasure of being served by Paulina, and she was great! Very attentive and, what I appreciated most, she was actually honest about what she liked and what she didn't. I love when a server will give you their REAL opinion instead of telling you everything on the menu is good. I decided to try the Elote Deviled Eggs because I wanted something different. And different they were! If you're a deviled egg lover, just know this isn't your typical deviled egg. They're served on top of a slice of corn on the cob, which I thought was pretty unique. Now let's talk about these chicken wings... I was VERY disappointed. To me, they tasted like frozen wings that were thrown in the oven for a few minutes... or maybe it was the sauce? Either way, I would not recommend the wings. That was definitely a miss for me. BUTTTT the crispy zucchini fries with the aioli??? Yeahhhh, those were GOOD! 8/10 for me. I could definitely order those again. I also had the Pillow Talk drink and it was delicious! Definitely enjoyed that. My friend ordered the crab cake and let me tell you... REAL crab! None of that fake stuff lol. That was really good too. Overall, I enjoyed the atmosphere, the music, the service and definitely some of the food. There were a couple misses for me, but I'd come back and try some other things on the menu. I'll start out by saying that the time in the Aviary was the best cocktail experience we have ever had. Not saying the best cocktails (even though they were very good), but the best experience as far as interesting presentations and overall service combined with good cocktails that when you were drinking them did not feel gimmicky at all, but that everything had a purpose. My wife did the 3 drink progression and ordered The Partridge, The 3 Martini Lunch, and the non-alcoholic version of the Kyoto Plum. I got three cocktails, but because I opted for one on their barrel aged part of the menu, my progression was basically a la carte, not the 3 drink $75 price. We also opted for one small bite of food - The Truffle explosion. My drinks were the Cereal Killer, the In The Rocks, and the Blood and Sand. As far as favorites went Joy's Partridge was basically a Mint Julep with some warming spices, but the presentation was great. Almost every table got that drink so it must be well received. My favorite was the Blood and Sand that was just a really well balanced cocktail. I think that part of the menu does not get the elaborate presentations. We both also enjoyed sharing the 3 martini lunch which was a small version of a Vesper, a Gibson, and a dirty Martini. Two things about this drink, we like our martinis with gin rather than vodka (obviously a Vesper has both), but their rules are that there are no changes to their menus, so both the gibson and the dirty martini were vodka based. The Gibson and the Vesper were our favorites of the three as the dirty martini was too dirty. There was even more olive brine if we wanted it dirtier. Bottom line, top notch experience, great friendly service, and the atmosphere was awesome watching the room being served some of the drinks we had, and ones that we did not order. The Truffle Explosion was also a very good bite, basically a truffle/parmesan infused soup dumpling that exploded in your mouth and helped out with a little food in our belly while having all that alcohol at the same time. The only disappointing cocktail was the Kyoto Plum mocktail, interesting presentation, but tasted just like grape juice - no real character. We made a reservation for their three course cocktail experience for four of us which required a deposit of $75 per person. Only one of us ended up doing the experience (the rest of us were too full and already tipsy from dinner) but it was nonetheless, a very cool experience. Service was top notch. My partner has admired this place for a long time, as a bartender himself, and he has even learned a thing or two from their Bible-like cookbooks. So when the maitre d offered to allow him to step into the kitchen and help finish one of their cocktails, he was absolutely giddy. This was such a memorable and special touch for us during our visit to Chicago. I loved seeing how the kitchen worked together in a traditional kitchen line but only focusing on cocktails. It was an impressive thing to see. Many of the cocktails are presented in an incredibly theatrical way featuring interesting glassware, dry ice, and even a plastic bag filled with flavored air. I actually wasn't a big fan of the cocktail I ordered (it leaned too heavy into the BBQ flavor for my taste) but I enjoyed trying everyone else's cocktails at the table. I would definitely recommend checking out The Aviary if you are a cocktail enthusiast hoping to try something you can't get anywhere else. It truly is a fine dining experience with mixology at the forefront.
