The Allis is probably the most beautiful coffee shop in all of Chicago. The food, drinks and atmosphere, are worthy of a 5-star experience. Our server did taint the experience a bit. From the moment we arrived, it was almost as if she knew it was our first time visiting and she did not want us there, to the point where I almost felt bad for coming! I was so excited to try The Allis, so feeling like I was a burden made me a little bummed. We did get a new server midway through our time here and she did turn the experience around a little bit. To eat I got the egg sandwich with cheddar cheese, avocado, spicy aioli, tomato, and spinach. This sandwich was very delicious! To drink, I tried the ube latte. This had a delicious nutty flavor to it. Torn if I'll be back. Friendly service shouldn't be hard to come by, especially in Chicago! read more

I really wanted to like this place because i've heard such positive sentiment around it but the service really ruined the experience for me. Upon walking in we weren't greeted at all and then made to feel as though our presence was a nuisance. We were there to WFH and sat at a communal table leaving our bags in the chairs next to us when we were rudely told to move them over for no apparent reason. I felt really awkward being there after until we got a new server who was very polite and made us feel more welcome. The space itself was fantastic with high ceilings and lots of natural light. Their breakfast selection was also incredible with great portions. I really wish the service was better because I would have made this a regular place I could come to WFH or just to enjoy a nice iced vanilla latte. read more

So when I booked the Afternoon Tea Experience I had to pre pay or at least that's what I thought I did. It was $126.00. We were a few min early for our reservation and it was not an issue. We each got our own tea. Mine blueberry hibiscus. Husbands Earl Grey. Our Tower: starting with on the bottom , 2 each egg salad sandwiches, cucumber sandwiches, and salmon and cream cheese. Next level macaron's (we don't like coconut) , citrus cupcakes and blood orange tart. Top level chocolate biscotti, citrus cookies, blueberry lemon scones, clotted cream and orange marmalade. I liked the cucumber sandwiches and my husband ate the egg salad. The salmon were ok I just don't care for salmon much in this type of preparation. Second level we each ate citrus cupcake and blood orange tart. They were both good. Top level He ate the chocolate biscotti and one citrus cookies. I tasted the biscotti and scone and I was not a fan of either. I tried the clotted cream and frankly it tasted like sour cream? Is that what clotted cream tastes like? The marmalade was good. For the price it really wasn't that much of an experience. Not far from where we live we can do afternoon tea with multiple teas and you can choose what your tower has and it's probably half the cost. They also made no mention of our anniversary on the reservation. When the bill came I mentioned I had to prepay for the experience and was told they don't charge the card at that time. My review reflects how me and my family were treated upon checking in for our reservation. After a few awkward moments of me standing by the host stand, waiting for a host to acknowledge me, she lifted her eyebrows to which I said: "checking in for a reservation". It was 9 am, only one table had guests. The entire place was empty. Our reservation was for the exact time; however, the host said we could only sit outside because inside was booked. Our reservation was for inside and I'm repeating, no one was inside. There was zero words, zero attempt to make any accommodations (I had a baby and a toddler with me), so we walked right out. I refuse to believe this is the standard. A nice word and a smile go a long way when you work in hospitality. Won't be coming back! read more

I really wanted to give this place more stars but there were just a few aspects of the meal I didn't love. The restaurant itself was beautiful and cozy, and the staff was friendly, but the menu wasn't very clear and the servers didn't do a great job clarifying - I got the croque madame and it was very good, but while ordering I said I wanted veggies too, so I was asking about thes sides. At no point did the waiter tell me the meal did come with a side salad, and when I asked if the tomatoes/mushrooms/spinach were a mix together or separate I swear he told me they were together so I ordered what I thought was a medley but no, it was three separate sides which I had to pay for individually, which was upsetting. It took close to 20 minutes just to get a latte and a coffee and even longer for the food. I've had better. Truffle fries were good at least! Not every truffle fry is made equally. I got the charred broccolini salad and added avocado. Delicious! Something I would order again. It's filling and the dressing isn't overwhelming. My friends got: the Branzino, fish and chips, and the courgette salad with chicken. They were not impressed. Flavors were lacking...even though presentation was there. My cousin told us the old menu was a lot better. Dessert wise, we shared ice cream, half baked cookie, and sticky toffee pudding. It's all pretty sweet. But the cookie paired much better with caramel ice cream not the vanilla it came with. I liked the saltyness and sweetness of the toffee pudding although my table mates thought it was skippable. Service was good though. Our server was honest about the drinks she liked. And I do like the vibe here. Classy but yet dark and cozy. They have a tea time sorta thing in the mornings. And the upstairs felt more like a pub. You can watch them grilling up the meats. OOOOO!! Quick brunch spot with the girls? The Allis is the place. The atmosphere is so chic, bright, open, and perfect for a relaxed brunch that still feels a little elevated. We did our tea selection and met with a tray of finger sandwiches of cucumber, salmon and egg salad. Again, none of these were amazing and something I could make at home. The pastries were good. A mix of cookies, small cupcakes and biscotti. I really enjoyed the coconut and strawberry macaroon but the others were not to write home about. They also recommended the roasted eggplant dip- bread was salted, warm, and fluffy, but the dip was overall kind of bland. The oysters were fresh and the mushroom pizza was pretty good, but fairly standard. The grapefruit spritz and dragon fruit sour are good nonalcoholic options. However, the seats are low to the ground, as is the table. It's quite uncomfortable particularly for tall people and the low table is hard to eat at. We barely saw our waiter after the first couple of minutes. I had a glass of wine and really wanted another one but our waiter was nowhere to be found for the next hour or so, so I gave up and didn't order another. Eventually another waiter came to our table, said our original waiter was occupied, and brought us the check. Of course he brought out those machines where the minimum option for tipping was 20% unless you chose to override it and manually type in a smaller %. $270 (for three people) later we walked out deeply unsatisfied with the experience. We waited about 20 minutes just for the server to show up, even though the place wasn't busy and there seemed to be only one staff member handling the floor. I don't normally write negative reviews, but my experience at The Allis at Soho House Chicago yesterday was bad enough that I feel obligated to share. I arrived early and was accommodated right away, and the service started off strong. Unfortunately, that was the only positive part of the experience, everything fell apart once the food arrived. I began with oysters and the crab toast. The oysters were solid--well-presented and flavorful. The crab toast, however, was one of the worst dishes I've had in a long time. It was nothing more than dry toasted bread with crumbled backfin crab, raw fennel, and shaved radish thrown on top. No balance, no thought, and honestly, no reason for it to be on the menu. I sent it back immediately. Hoping that was just a misstep, I ordered the beef tartare. It was somehow even worse. What I was served was essentially seasoned ground beef on toast. I asked the server what cut was used, and after checking with the kitchen, they confirmed it was a blend of different cuts that had been ground. Ground beef being passed off as tartare at a place like Soho House is completely unacceptable. At that point, I didn't trust anything else on the menu and went back to oysters just to have something I knew was safe. Still hungry and wanting something warm, I ordered the crispy artichokes. What came out was a whole deep-fried artichoke that looked like a blooming onion--greasy, heavy, and completely off-base from what the dish should have been. Spending $221.75 dining alone for a meal this poorly executed is beyond disappointing--it's frustrating. Aside from the oysters and the initial service, the food felt careless, uninspired, and not at all reflective of the standard you'd expect from Soho House. read more

Spent the afternoon having tea with some lovely ladies at Soho House's Allis restaurant. The venue was lovely, and we were seated promptly. Our table was located on the second floor which is a little bit more quaint than the downstairs which is kind of crowded. The menu is set in advance with little option to modify. So just be aware of that if you have allergies. There was a set of 8 different teas, and I was excited to see they had a black based black Berry hibiscus tea. We ought to do the sparkling afternoon tea, which included a glass of bubbles. I got the brut champagne and was very satisfied on how it complimented the scones and some of the sweeter desserts. The finger sandwiches were tasty but I did want more I feel like they can double up on the finger sandwiches it's really not gonna cost them that much more. I saw a couple other people had ordered real food and I wish I would ordered some French fries because they looked delicious. All in all I had a really nice time and I'll come back. I do have to remember when coming for afternoon tea it literally is more about the tea and the cute little finger foods but I also wish that I was able to get more than one cup of tea. The Allis is a more than a bar or restaurant, it is an experience. Located on the first floor of SoHo House, it is open to the public. From outside it is quite unassuming, from inside, it is visually stunning. From the moment you walk to the moment you leave, you will be warmly welcomed by staff. The non traditional dining area is lux but comfortable. We stopped in on Thanksgiving weekend for dinner after festivities in the area. We had a reservation, arrived a few minutes early and were strayed right away. Our chairs were comfy armchairs near the entrance giving us great views of all the comings and goings. Staff was warm and friendly. The server was knowledgeable about all things on the menu and helped us find drinks that suited our tastes. The manager stopped by and was very charming and friendly. The experience was literally just okay. The tea is 65 a person. Sandwiches have stale bread. The tea is Rishi tea, nothing special and I have it in my cabinet at home (a tea bag?? A high tea shouldn't be using those). They don't come to refill anything, servers downstairs are super unfriendly. Real shame because the place is beautiful to look at. There's no cream or anything for the scones, maybe the first tea I've been to without that. Took them a half hour of us sitting to even get our tea. Unfortunate experience for a birthday celebration. We were seated adjacent to the back of house station and we were a group of 3 seated at a table meant for 2. We asked to get seated at an empty four top and they said they needed for a larger party. ONLY TO SEAT ANOTHER PARTY OF 3 at it. The place settings, tiered serving stand, and teapots didn't fit on the table so they provided a purse table to fit everything. It was cramped and hidden, it took 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us and gave us water. This was all despite there being larger tables available. The food was really mediocre and not worth the value. We've been to 3 other tea experiences in Chicago that had been so much better and more value oriented. We will never be coming back. $80/pp for a sad experience is not worth it. read more
