I've been seeing Dr. Arfai for 2 to 3 years now, with about a 10 month mix up due to insurance issues; and in those 10 months where I had to see a different pain management doctor really made me realize how good Dr. Arfai is. Pain mgt is the recipient of much scrutiny, regulatory and insurance hassles and I've no doubt abuse by patients. During the 10 months my insurance was FUBARed, I had to get a new primary care doc and in my small desert town, the 2 pharmacies will not take pain med prescriptions from 1 of 2 or 3 docs in our town. In my 30's chronic back pain got me going to chiropractors on and off for 10 years or so and from time to time getting Rx for pain meds. In my mid to late 40's & 50's the back pain worsened and I'd needed several surgeries, knees, shoulders , hernias- so I'd take pain meds before surgeries and get off them ASAP after surgery. Now at 56, I'm recovering from a shoulder replacement and needing another, riddled with arthritis in virtually every joint and need to lose much weight for my knees and back. Anyway-- I don't like to have to take the pills but I like pain even less; in a speciality with a lot of puritanical anti drug sentiment, Dr. Arfai and his staff do not make me feel like a criminal asking for a bag of heroin- this is as I see it a decision between me and my doctor. read more

RUN RUN AWAY, FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR !!!! My ins approved for "Second Opinion" consultation. I`ve been waiting for that appointment for almost 3 weeks. No one made curtesy call day prior, so time came by, I drove all over to Mission Hills from Northridge, where I work. I came 15 min before apt time, and found that front door is closed (???), I called the main number, asked girl why their door is closed, she said they are seeing PT at Northridge office (?), I didn't even know they have another location, why no one told me that??? I was so mad, you have no idea... I drove back to Northridge any way. 3 front desk girls looked like aliens, l filled out papers & asked how along should I wait, girl responded: " Hmmmm.....there is 3-4 people r waiting , I said: I dont care, I booked my apt at 3:45, they said: we`ll take you in asap. Another girl asked if I have any medical records with me .Excuse me?? Didn't you request my records prior ? She smiled to me: " I`m going to do it now " (???) I knew It was impossible thing to do..."Facey`s" med record department requires 2-3 days to get records.....but what can you really do? I offered X-Rays on CD, it turned- they didn't have device to read CD (???) Saw Doctor Arfai in a bout 20 min, he asked what`s wrong with me, I told I cannot tell you in 2 words, he literally wasn't even looking at me.....Sz: ok we`ll request MRI & Spine Injections, told him I already did 3 Epidurals, him: "Really?" Well.....if you would requested my records, you would known that ! he sz: " That's fine, we`ll do different injections... " What kind of Doctor are you??? How can you make recommendations if have no idea what`s going on with me? And why I wasted my time and came for a second opinion, if you have nothing on me ??? I get that we are all under a lot of stress during these times but your in the wrong field if you can't handle normal questions that's being asking! My wife and have been seeing dr. Arfai for over 10 years. I suffer from a back injury and Fibromyalgia. My wife suffers from Chrohns Disease. He has done wonders for us maintaining a good quality of life. He and his staff ( including Jessica and all the others) have beed excellent. They dont make you feel like your not sick and definitely do not feel like you are being judged. Dr. Arfai and his staff are the most professional doctors around and will work hard with you and your insurance to get things done. After months of searching for a pain management doctor I believe I got very lucky! He was very personable, compassionate, knowledgeable and understanding. He explained a treatment plan specifically for my multitude of conditions where other doctors told me that they couldn't help me. I am a retired NICU RN who has dealt with low back and hip pain for 2 decades. I tolerate medications poorly and narcotics not at all. I met Dr Arfai 9 years ago. He quickly gained my full trust and I allowed him to do what he does best; diagnose and treat horrible pain. Listen and be patient in the process. It can take some time to reveal the true problem. I received a spinal cord implant for pain management 5 years ago. It works beautifully. I no longer have hip or spine pain and have taken zero pain medication in the past 5 years. If first impressions, and impressively high ratings online mean anything, then I have hit the jackpot. Most of the referrals from my PCP are verified and background checked by myself first, prior to making an appt. and most often they have from sub-par to absolutely awful reviews, yelp, etc. (not my PCP's fault) I am a 55 yr. old male, with several illnesses, three pulmonary embolisms, coronary heart disease, 90% arterial blockage, obesity, sleep apnea, depression, "severe" sports injuries and other issues. I was worried when meeting Dr. Arfai, due to my other illnesses, and I basically spilled my guts to him, which in return, he didn't even flinch. He was extremely patient, listened well, and seemed uniquely concerned with my pain issues. He made me feel at home and comfortable. What I also was impressed by was his suggestion for alternative and additional methods for pain mgmt, i.e. physical therapy. Also, he has me scheduled for a up to date MRI, as my last MRI report is from 2011. I will most definitely do a follow up review in due time, but as for now, I am very hopeful that the issues I am seeing Dr. Arfai for... will be given the utmost care and attention to. read more

TERRIBLE PLACE! My first visit 'No Gown'. Spine injury patient with 7 surgeries on spine dos not have his arm strength checked? No vitals? Simple Urine test. Doctor made a 'Uhg sound' when he looked at horrific scar on neck. No 'Hands On Exam of area at all'. Fact! I said NOTHING about my Back or hips or legs or knees. He went immediately to my BACK? Why? easier? Outside BILLING? Not there in house but, one you cannot reach by phone and they do not return calls (Just demand payment $$? per anther REVIEWER who is pulling his hair out and very upset!!! All these IN HOUSE Programs! Looks terrible. In 16 years my last doctor said, wrote, did NOTHING WITH MY BACK, why? ( My last doctor, friend, and a great soul 'DIED 12/2017. He was from IRAQ. Kind person. I am French/Canadian (NOT AMERICAN to that old woman, owner? I honestly believe that this was her problemn. She thought I was an American in a sports car parking in Handicapped spot she despised me before I entered building! She asked about my CAR? Why? Didn't believe I had SPINE INJURY. Refused to look at my neck & HUGE SCARS! MY last doctor DIED of Cancer or I would NOT be here. Northridge. Dr. Rasool. Amazing man. I HAD NO PROBLEMS IN 10 YEARS. Dr. Amani even has a PHOTO OF ME IN HIS OFFICE WITH AL PACINO. I am a terrible person?????? Why do THEY HUG ME WHEN I WALK IN?) There is nothing wrong with my back. Fact. It is NECK INJURY. CHRONIC NECK PAIN x 5 major surgeries with hardware.. He refused to 'focus on it'. Set up very expensive 'INTERNALPROGRAMS' in his own facility? Red flags. VARGO Physical Therapy is walking distance from my house with their OWN BILLING. No problems in years with them. Why not use them? uhm? Second visit 'smiling receptionist remembers me' (nice) I walk to her. However, old, homely woman with dirty brown hair bags under eyes screams from 10 feet (while receptionist ON PHONE asked me to wait a second. Quietly! I did. I tried..) This woman looked HORRIBLY MAD. INSANE. She demanded to know, 'WHAT DO YOU WANT?'. wth? Professional? Crazy? I simply asked, 'why are you talking to me like this?' I am trying to find PT. "ARE YOU OK?". I NEEDED PT director. Her response, 'You talk to ME. I OWN THE PLACE'. Really? I doubt it very much. An insane person screaming in the lobby owns it? Truly doubt this. The receptionist cringed. Whispered to me; 'I am sorry. I cannot get involved'. (Protecting her JOB). By the time I got to PT 2nd floor 'THIS SO-CALLED OWNER THREW ME OUT OF THE BUILDING. ASKING ME TO LEAVE". Goodbye idiots, You traumatized me. I arrived in good shape. Ready for day. Anxious. Left IN TEARS. Very upset. I AM REPORTING THIS TO MEDICAL BOARD AND MY ATTORNEY!!! I did nothing to deserve this. NEW Girl in PT knew it. She Asked me to just forget it. She didn't want problems with that woman as she started new job (Revolving door?)...OMG! So it's not the first time? The OWNER? She screamed, 'Leave the Building'. In 23 years (I have witnesses. Statements from ALL my other doctors) I NEVER had problems with my ANY of my doctors or surgeons. ONLY HERE. IN SECOND VISIT. You people are insane! You do this with the wrong Vietnam, Iraqi War Vietnam and attack a Patient like this the next one might be 'mentally ill?' You might not like the results. You better re-think your approach "TO SERIOUSLY ILL PATIENTS" and stop being RUDE AND EVIL. Before that woman attacks another PAIN, SPINE PATIENT WITH DEPRESSION..."TERMINATE HER". I've been seeing Dr. Arfai for several years now. Prior to that, I'd seen two other pain management doctors. He is BY FAR my FAVORITE, and his staff are the most helpful and responsive. Other places I've literally waited hours, had rude, unknowledgeable staff, and encountered doctors who only prescribe drugs or offer no help whatsoever. Dr. Arfai is so helpful, empathetic, and knowledgeable! He offers multiple ideas and solutions in addition to medications so I am not drugged up. He helps with injections, physical therapy, and non-narcotic ideas. He won't just be your drug dealer, so if that's what you want, don't bother. He LISTENS to what I want and don't want, and does what he can to help. His staff is helpful with my requests, answers my questions, gives referrals, passes along billing information, etc. I LOVE IT HERE, and I recommend it to everyone with chronic pain who wants multiple ways to try to control it! read more
