Wow! I went with this place based off of reviews over a higher rated diner simply because they had a larger salad selection and it seemed like more natural foods offered. We certainly weren't disappointed. The cafe is bright, the service is outstanding and the food was good, too. I had a taco salad. It didn't seem like the meat was seasoned and yet, it tasted very good mixed with the beans, lettuce and other ingredients. The shell was good, not as crispy as other places but it did the job and tasted good. The fries are awesome here. Big ole slices of potato. The sopapilla was more like fried dough but no complaints from me. It took me back to the boardwalk at Salisbury Beach. Would recommend stopping here. read more

This restaurant is attached to a travel center/gas station so we were not optimistic but went anyway due to the good reviews. Our server, a young man, was perfect and the food was excellent - we had enchiladas and a burger. The cafe was very clean with beautiful sky scenes painted on the ceiling. They really do need to hire a couple more folks for the lunch rush - my impatient obese partner with irritable bowel and diabetes who lives his life in a rush almost caused a scene. However, while he went to smoke his precious cigarette - they brought out the food. Mine was great. I opted for the green Blue Corn Enchiladas. I'll be doing that again the next time I'm in Cibola county! My partner, who ignorantly likes to blame everything except himself, had a salad. He didn't fare to well - but then he wouldn't.... shocking your IBS with fresh foods after a month of solid grease will leave a person doubled over. All in all - I'll go back just to avoid having to eat another meal with that guy. lol Seriously - if you want great New Mexican Cuisine go for it. The food here is good. About what you might expect for a roadside cafe. If I were passing through again, I would eat here. The chili rellenos plate was really good and spicy with green chili sauce. The rice and beans were great. The Indian taco was huge, but the fry bread was a bit tough and the meat could use more seasoning. The best part was the complimentary sopapillas. It was okay. My son ordered chirizo and eggs and he thought it was a bit salty. I ordered the Kiva Burrito Xmas style and it was okay. Not knock my socks off...just okay. The green Chile sauce in New Mexico is very hot, which was expected, the red chile sauce was not as hot (which wasnt expected!). Would i go back? We again followed reviews and both ordered the breakfast burrito with carne adovada Christmas style. Good choice. The burrito is huge but fluffy. We liked the green salsa better. It is chunky and flavorful and had some heat. The red is a thin sauce and knock your socks off hot. Beware!! We love hot but would just get green the next time. read more

KIVA has really good food! The portion sizes are generous. I had the Carne Adovada plate for the first time & it was actually really good as the pork meat did not have any fat. My only complaint is the sopapillas looked & tasted as if they were cooked in dirty oil & tasted like french fries or something close to that. read more

I am a trucker, so I away from home a lot. The food here not only made me feel at home, but I felt like a kid eating my grandmas cooking. I spent about eight years, with my grandparents, living in El Paso Texas, and I had family from New Mexico, which is real close to El Paso. If you have not had New Mexico style Mexican food, then you are missing out on a great regional cuisine. I had the red chili enchiladas, and I added a fried egg over easy, because that is how we ate enchiladas at home. They ask if you want tortillas or sopapillas. Sopapillas are another thing you will not find outside of New Mexico. They are delicious. I eat mine as dessert, smothered in honey. This place is authentic New Mexican cuisine. If, like me, you grew up with this food and miss it, because you live in another state, check this place out on your next road trip or visit. If you're a local and don't want to cook and clean, this place will taste like home, maybe better. read more

So rating after the reopen- the new owners expanded the menu to include American and Filipino food. I know- Filipino in Grants, New Mexico, what? Being from Grand Junction, CO I'm in no way an expert in Filipino food. Rather a novice who is thrilled at diversity of food in a small town. The new owners largely kept the ambience. They did appear to be having some issues- hopefully just start up ones. There were too many waitresses but food was quite slow to come out. I can't speak to the American or New Mexican food, but the lechon was awesome. Seriously- crispy skin, fatty pork belly, and some good meat. Would definitely get again. The garlic rice was meh. They were out of a lot of the other Filipino options. But overall a nice change of pace in rural New Mexico. Worth a try. read more

Worst service EVER!! We stopped in from Texas on our way to Cali in hopes of having nice homie food. There were 2 customers in there (great shouldn't take long), it took us 40 minutes to get our food that's 2 adult meals and a child's plate. Not a problem, until the lady comes and accidentally dropped all the plates on the floor. No biggie, I told her hey salvage the scrambled eggs that didn't fall so I can take on the road and I'll feed them to my 7months old in the car. She rolls her eyes at us. Then proceeds to takes another 30 minutes cleaning everything with the other waitress. There were only two servers and they both cleaned and walking around the dinner while we just sat there and watched. It was the rudest thing I've ever encountered. So over an hour wasted in that restaurant for no food and rude service. read more

This is probably the best restaurant within 100 miles any direction. Both the red chili and green Chili are spicy but have good flavor. All lunch and dinner plates are more than a belly full. You will be stuffed after your meal. This restaurant is the definition of Southwest Home Cookin. read more

Wonderful food, amazing waitress! We had such a good time chatting with Miranda, a future educator. The chili relleno with red sauce and green sauce gives just the perfect amount of heat. My 88 year old cousin cleaned up her entire plate of chili relleno, despite the smoke coming out of her ears. Double shout out to Miranda, who was so attentive and courteous. We took a chance and had dinner at what looks like a truck stop cafe. This is a very clean restaurant with a large menu of American and Mexican food. We both had the roast beef special for less than $10 each. My wife had the mashed potatoes while I had a baked potato. Both potatoes where very good as was the roast beef. The carrot and corn vegetables were also cooked well, not over cooked and tasty. I would definitely return and recommend this cafe. read more

The food was great, but in my hot chocolate there was vegetable oil in it and I am pretty sure oil doesn't belong in hot chocolate. You could tell because the oil was separating feom the water and you could tell. read more
