Chile relleno and chicken enchilada, with rice and beans!

Restaurant was crowded during visit, busy with local customers and those passing through town. Located close to the interstate, with large number of Tesla charging stations nearby. Ordered Kiva Combination plate and side of fried okra and chips/salsa. Everything came fresh. Only complaint this that it took much longer to get food than is typical. Might be short staffed. Also, I don't like the two payment options: pay cash with exact change or pay 4% extra to use a credit card. Who has exact change?

So glad I stopped here on my cross country road trip. It was fast, and some of the best enchiladas I've ever had in my life. SPICY! And perfect. So affordable and big portions.

I called ahead because I was in a hurry today. When I arrived the hostess was very nice and brought me my order. It was hot and delicious. The little cafe does get busy so if you are in a hurry call in your order. This time I purchased the chili relleno dinner with the free sauce. If you don't like hot spicy I would try the red sauce. The sopas were delicious!! I also ordered fry bread. .

Watch out, look out; more amazing food ahead. On our return trip we stopped by Kiva for breakfast to see if the food was standard in quality during different services. The carne asada breakfast burrito was calling to me. Unable to resist, I placed my order. Out came the mother of all breakfast burritos! Just see the picture. I had it Christmas (red & green chili) style. The green chili is superb! Just the perfect amount of flavorful heat. The red sauce was good, I just preferred the green. Inside the burrito there was delicious carne asada, eggs, hash browns and cheese. Combined it was epic! I am now fully powered to continue the drive! If on a road trip and you are around Milan, swing by and grab something to eat at this unassuming cafe!

Outside of this place looks nice. Food is ok. Service sucks. I ordered a fajita burrito and a small coke to go. The girl asked if I wanted any sauce on the side. I said yes. The older came to $17. I gave her a $20 and told her to keep the change. 15 minutes later I went and picked up the order. When I got to the car, the side of sauce was not in the bag. I ran back in the store and asked her for the side of sauce. She says, "sorry I didn't charge you for that. Would you like me to charge you now?" I told her I left my wallet in the car. She says sorry. I asked if they have any hot sauce? She says only in bottles if you dine inside. None to go. Seriously? They're that cheap that she couldn't just give the sauce and was going to make me run back to my car? And to make matters worse, the burrito wasn't even that good. The fajitas was like chewing gum, and without the sauce it was very plain. I don't recommend this place at all. Seriously, you can do way better at Taco Bell.

So many things went wrong here. The food was completely bland, with no seasoning at all. The rice was so dry it had hard pieces, and the beans were just as bad. The asada had no flavor, was overcooked, and dry. When I ordered a Coke, the cup was packed with ice to the point where I could see right through the drink. I also asked for salsa and limes on the side, but even after my food arrived, I was still waiting. I had to get up and ask for it myself, only to later find out I was charged extra for the salsa. The café looks like it has been around for a long time, with vintage photos on the walls, but unfortunately, the food quality does not make it worth dining in. If you decide to eat here, I'd recommend checking your receipt before paying. Personally, I wouldn't recommend this place at all.

Have been making some trips to Grants and tried this place in a travel center. One of my favorite things is Carne Adovada, kind of a New Mexico specialty. Got the burrito ala carte and was excellent, and a good price. Sometimes the adovada can be overcooked but this was very moist with a nice spicy sauce. And the green Chile was excellent also. Driving through while on our way east for the summer. Based just on the reviews, we backtracked four miles and we weren't disappointed. The Chili Rellanno was exactly what I needed to fortify me for the second half of our day's drive. Staff was lovely and this was a good place to stretch our legs.

I was pleased beyond my expectations! We were dropping through Milan after visiting Chaco and wanted to stop Into the WOW diner. Alas it is closed, very sad, another story from COVID times, I'm sure. So we went to the Kiva. I've always loved the gift shop, fun for looking around and taking a break from driving. Our first visit into the restaurant. We had BLT's and they were amazing. Five think bacon strips, fresh lettuce and tomato, on grilled Texas toast. Very simple, very yummy. I saw lovely Mexican plates coming out to others, we will try that on our next visit. Had to stop at one more spot on our way out of New Mexico. Gallups places would be closed by the time we got there and this was literally our only option on the Sunday afternoon after the new year. We always got a combination plate: Enchilada, taco and chili relleno. We love chili rellenos! Christmas. Came with beans, rice and we choose the Sopapillas. We both ordered the taco and enchilada with seasoned ground beef. The taco was the smallest served yet. Seemed smaller than a street taco shell. Turns out it was one of the better tasting ones on the particular trip to NM. The enchilada was very good. Filled with ground beef and Christmas, (red and green sauce,) tasty! The chili relleno was outstanding! Cooked perfectly, stuffed with cheesy goodness and that Christmas sauce... no joke, excellent. The pinto beans were very flavorful, delicious! I thought the Sopapillas were decent. My partner said she thought it was the best of the trip. This is part of why we order the same, so we can report to you a difference in opinion. Now the 1 star reduction... otherwise it would be a 5 star. The rice was the worst we had tasted. It tasted like a box of generic Rice-a- Roni.... That had been in the cupboard since the 1970's. It was cooked to the right texture but that seasoning was very sad. It needs serious help. Nothing about it added to the meal. All that being said, I do recommend this place. The girls were nice. It seemed very clean, just too many people inside so we ate in the parking lot. Give this place a go. I think you'll truly enjoy it!

Sometimes they say that love comes when you least expect it. Let's just say I really fell in love hard. The best chili relleno of my life (which I got in the combination plate). The chili was exquisite and the filling was so well seasoned. I'm going to think about that chili relleno forever. The fry bread was pillowly and amazing with honey. First time eating here. Overall, the food was good. Typical cafe atmosphere. Unfortunately, the service was below par. It was 10 minutes before anyone came to give us menus or get our drink order. Then the waitress left us to go take menus to another table and took their order before coming back to us. Not sure about a return visit at this time. Would have given 4 or 5 stars if the service had been better. read more

We found Kiva Cafe on Yelp and based on reviews went to check it out. We were somewhat disappointed to learn it was part of a travel center just off Interstate 40. However, we decided to give it a try. We both had the combo plate. We were very surprised at the quality of the food. Highly recommend. Service was great even with the food being a little slow to arrive. We will stop here again. read more

Happy we found this spot while on vacation. When we walked in we were greeted by a local couple and we asked for their recommendation on what to order, they were regulars to the cafe. Food was excellent, staff was helpful and attentive. Lots of space in the cafe and many windows. There is also a quick foot mart... also a gift shop attached on the other side that has some local artisan wares. read more

My husband and I have enjoyed breakfast here but hadn't tried the lunch choices until today. Oh my! The food was delicious! Husband had the carnitas tacos plate and I had the Kiva cheeseburger with fries. So tasty! The chips and salsa were fresh and delicious. Prices are reasonable. The service was very good. The host was welcoming and efficient. Our server, Monique S, was the best. She was professional, friendly and we appreciated her service. The restaurant was clean and decorated in positivity. Yes! Stop here! You won't be disappointed! We were looking for local food "dive" and lucked onto this. Enjoyed Indian Fry Bread--hubby couldn't quit raving about it (and I agree!). Ordered soppapillas for dessert with honey. Delish. As we saw other platefuls (all huge portions) go by to tables, everything looked good: tacos, fried okra, enchiladas. Enjoy! read more

Was stopping for my rest period as a truck driver you don't get many choices that isnt fast food, they offer great carne asada fries the green and red Chile is great and they don't skimp on it, they offer Great service and it was quick. Will be making it a point to stop here again. read more

French Toast (half order) was plenty and tasted great! Eggs were cooked nicely and tasted good, not overcooked. Nice little cafe with a comfortable bar set up to grab a really nice breakfast. You can check out some jewelery while you are there. Good place to stop in and relax from a long drive. No internet is the only downside. read more

I don't know where to start. We waited a long time to get seated. We waited a really long time to get our food. Eggs over cooked, bacon over cooked, cold and had been sitting around awhile. Potatoes no seasoning and cold. Toast came 10 minutes later. Waitresses laughing and chitchatting while food sat in the window. Our waitress was put out that we ask for silverware. She brought a fork but I guess a knife was too much to ask for. Jelly with a fork was fun. I would not recommend. read more

The chips and salsa that are free are really good, but stop eating them for a second and the salsa gains a degree of heat--just about the perfect heat for me, maybe too hot for some. The posole is one of my favorite posoles ever. I order it every time I come here. The free sopas are amazing as well. This isn't your regular truck stop cafe. read more

Apparently, management changed hands again in October of 2019. Since the new owners could not cook Filipino food, those items have been crossed off the menu. Disappointed , we ordered pancakes, eggs and hash browns which were very good. The hash browns are freshly cut potatoes and not greasy. Egg was done to order. The pancakes were light and fluffy. We thought the cook did a fine job. For some reason tips are not shared with the cook, so if you like your food there is a tip jar for the cook on the counter by the register. read more

Ahhhhmazing Indian taco (unless you're a linebacker you can probably share it... maybe even with two more people!), fresh guacamole, and fresh hot tortilla chips. Cool to find actual fresh, quality food at a travel stop/gas station off the highway. read more

I have had a lot of first in New Mexico. One being this gem. A Philippine influenced menu along with New Mexico classics. Located in an unassuming gas station. I came for the epic and mega crispy lechon! Perfectly cooked to crispy perfection. I recommend paring it with the garlic rice and beans. One must also get the house sauce. I put it on the rice as well as use it for digging the lachon. Do yourself a service and don't be dissuaded by it local. read more

I wish the tostadas we ordered would have come with the traditional lettuce and tomato but it was only the meat with beans. Green chili was excellent and homemade. Frito pie was a nice choice and quite tasty. Made with hamburger meat, Fritos, beans lettuce and tomatoes. I would definitely go back.

The cantaloupe water was a bit sweet but refreshing. The strawberry ice cream needed a bit more strawberry flavor but I did finish the cone, so it was good for me.
