I had an outstanding dinner at this restaurant last night, and it truly exceeded my expectations. The place was nearly full when I arrived, but they seated me right away. The service was incredibly efficient from start to finish. They quickly took my drink order, brought the drinks, and immediately followed with fresh salsa and chips. My server took the order promptly, and the salad arrived almost right away. The main course came out perfectly timed--just as I finished my salad. The prime rib was absolutely phenomenal--the best I've had in a long time. It was cooked to perfection, juicy, and full of flavor. What really stood out was the team. The waitresses were sharp, fast, and professional even though the restaurant was busy. The young food runners were on point too--they cleared plates immediately and kept everything running smoothly. Everyone worked together like a well-oiled machine. For a delicious prime rib dinner, the bill came to about $60 before tip, which is an excellent value. We came over for lunch, and we were the only people in the place for the first while. They had some lunch specials, on a big board and then offered both beer and wine options. The waitress told us to sit where we wanted and then visited our table with menus and drinks. She was not overly friendly, but efficient and kept us well taken care of. I ordered a glass of White Zinfandel to drink along with Ray's Pasta that came with a side salad and blue cheese dressing. The lettuce on the salad was a bit wilted and there was too much dressing. After a long day on the road we found our way to La Ventana Steakhouse by way of hotel clerk recommendation. It was exactly what we needed to rejuvenate our souls!! The Carne Adovada was delicious, a favorite dish since our college days in NM in the early '80s. My wife had one of her favorite dishes, enchiladas. Both dishes were delicious! AMAZING!!! Was in Grants for just one night and came across La Ventana Steakhouse on Yelp. The restaurant did not disappoint! The food was so good that it wasn't on my plate long enough to take photos. I hade the sirloin and fried shrimp, my wife had their signature dish...the sheep hearder. Steak was cooked to perfection as were the fried shrimp. A nice baked potato and salad rounded out the meal. I highly recommend the apple crisp with vanilla ice cream for dessert. Great food, excellent prices, and fantastic service. What more could you want? Definitely worth a visit! read more

This was just a strange experience. First, it's hard to tell where the main entrance is. It's just a nondescript door on the exterior with no window and the size of a small home entry door. When you walk in you're right in the middle of tables. No hostess station or anything. Just people eating all around you. Anyway, a person did approach and seat me. A waitress brought a menu followed my drink order. As I looked at the menu I could hear this faint but distinct ringing bell sound. It sounded like I had the front door open in my house and the neighbor across the street did too and someone was ringing their doorbell three times a second. I thought maybe it was a timer on a fryer in back and it just kept going and going. I finally got up to try and figure out what it was because there was no way I could sit through a meal with that annoying sound. Also, I wanted to find out if I maybe came in the wrong/bar entrance. I found out I did indeed come through the main entrance, they have other rooms for apparently group events, and that ding, ding, ding, ding, ding (I could go on for pages) was apparently coming from the HVAC system? I sat back down in the small dining room and waited to order. And waited, and waited, and waited all while hearing that ding, ding, ding, ding, ding........I finally reached my near breaking point and got up and left before I went all Jack Nicholson "The Shining" crazy. What a gem to find in what feels like the middle of no-where! Srsly, there's like NOTHING between Gallup and Albuquerque restaurant wise, so it was surprising to see this spot pop up on our way home from Phoenix. The food was delicious! I had the fajitas which were very well seasoned and came with nicely sized toppings (it's insulting when places only serve you a tablespoon of guac :/ ) My hubby had a steak, of which I had a bite, and, not being very much a steak eater, I have to say it was delicious! Service was fantastic, and we walked in pretty late. Servers were very attentive and didn't make us feel like we are committing a crime walking in an hour before closing. Decor wise, it feels a little bit out of date, like a diner from the 60's, but the food was absolutely to date and delicious. This place will stay as one of our go-to spots for future road trips. (Btw, it's a little hard to see from the road, it's technically behind some other buildings, so just keep looking if you don't see it at first) read more

We finally got sat down and it took them 15 minutes to take our drink order. Then we had to ask for chips and salsa. After they took our order (it was so dark we couldn't see the menu and had to use a phone flash light) we waited an hour for our food (meanwhile they didn't come refill chips and salsa or our drinks) when we got our food it was disgusting and our food was SUPER spicy(they still didn't refill drinks). Incredible...don't be put off by the outside or even the inside. This place was off the hook good. Started with green chili queso dip (SPICY) but delicious. Mr Muscle had the steak and enchiladas - a house special for decades. The menu calls it a 7oz steak but don't worry, you will be full. This is a treasure - steak is perfectly grilled/charred, enchiladas are piping hot and covered in that delicious deep flavored tex-mex enchilada gravy. I had the steak smothered in green chili sauce - don't freak out. It is actually red-brown in color because its not just a bunch of tomatillos! Excellent again. Hot bread and butter and house salad. The family and I were just passing through tonight on our way to Colorado. Thankfully, this cute little place was open until 10 on a Monday night! What a terrific place! The homemade salsa and chips were really good! I ordered the steak and enchiladas. The steak was cooked perfectly, exactly the way I like it - close to well done! The salad with homemade ranch dressing was good as well as the enchiladas with sauce on the side. I kinda liked that you could put as much or as little as you wanted to. The hubs got ground beef tacos, so yummy! As was the club and the homemade cheese pizza! Yummy food! Our server was spot on and so sweet. We had plenty of refills on the drinks. We closed the place as I'm sure all the locals had gone home already by 9. Awesome place! Will have to remember to come back when we're out this way. I'm the opposite of other reviewers I love the non-pretentiousness. It's not fancy but it has charm. I went on off hours and service was fast and polite and not crowded. Personally I'd rather eat somewhere like this than a Gastro pub brewery full of hipsters. On the downside though the prime rib was just average not particularly tender. Based on Yelp reviews, La Ventana Steakhouse was one of the better places to eat in Grants, NM. My husband and I went there at 4:00 on Friday. The atmosphere was darkish, had nice table linens, was dated but clean. The waitstaff were friendly and made us feel welcome. Our drinks were served immediately along with warmed tortilla chips (hot, crisp, and light) along with some of the best salsa I've ever had. My husband and I decided to split an order of fajitas. We couldn't make up our minds about chicken or beef so the waitress said we could have both. Our food came in good time. The flour tortillas were perfect. The fajitas were served with sour cream, guacamole, salsa, and pinto beans. I used all the sides on my beef fajita. It...was...so...good! The chicken was almost as good, but the beef was so flavorful and tender - I think it was actually tenderized or cube steak. I liked La Ventana so well that I wanted to try it again the next day. By the time we were finished with our meal, the restaurant was almost filled by what looked like mostly locals - it must be a Grants favorite. Wonderful! Stopped on our way from Phoenix to Albuquerque. Service was attentive without being pushy. Enchiladas with red sauce were delicious -- might try the green chile sauce next time. The food was delicious and we were so hungry. There are few restaurants in the area yet the service was totally top drawer. Go ahead and ask for whatever you want because there are many things they can make that are not even on the menu. We were attracted by the new ductwork on the roof which was gleaming in the afternoon sun. Quality maintenance on the roof probably means quality management in the kitchen. We were not disappointed.
