This is the kind of place you wish you could call home. The rooms are comfortable, but the outdoor space and friendly atmosphere were the highlights for us. The massive lawn out back extends right up to the river and is surrounded by mountainous forests in the distance. It's a spectacular view especially as the sun goes down. We enjoyed the sunsets on lawn chairs - they are set up under big trees outside each unit as well as in a few other places across the grass. The fire pit next to the water (with chairs and cut firewood) is perfect to chat around as the sky turns dark. The rooms are attached to small but full kitchens which are shared between adjacent units (two rooms per kitchen). We had no trouble navigating kitchen use. There are coffee grounds and a coffee pot in each room, so you won't need to worry about sharing the kitchen if that's all you plan to make. The only issue we ran into was finding shampoo and conditioner (there are no sample sizes here), but there is a market just a 5 minute drive away. Normally we would've brought our own but we stopped for a night here after a week-long backpacking trip in the Trinity Alps Wilderness. Theresa was extremely helpful in accommodating all our needs, even allowing us to use her laundry soap and appliances to wash our clothes! We couldn't have been more pleased with our stay. Absolutely fantastic spot on the Klamath. The property is right on the water with a big lawn, and the location is great near Happy Camp. You can venture out into the surrounding area easily, or just opt to relax at the Inn. The amenities therein are a little sparse, but that's why being so near to Happy Camp is nice: you can easily hit the market up for supplies. The rooms share kitchens, but are separate otherwise. This would be a great place to do a group trip with two or more rooms rented in conjunction. There is also a grill and patio area over near the volleyball lawn. Nice staff, and the grounds were well kept up. For the money we spent, the experience was well worth it. read more

What a lovely place! We only stayed one night - the night before an amazing 3 day white water rafting trip on the Klamath with Raft California. The room was clean and comfortable with the convenience of a shared full kitchen. The view on the spacious back lawn is beautiful - right on the river with chairs to relax and a swing. The property is close enough to town to grab groceries but feels remote. The owner John is a super nice guy with loads of knowledge about the area. He even gave popsicles to my two boys. Happy Camp. Very cute and hospitable town. The Klamath River Resort Inn is a Beautifully charming place. Beautiful view of the river. Just as the pictures show. And, the sound, just perfect. Theresa is very helpful, she extended a very warm welcome, and was also hospitable! The rooms are very nice and has everything you could need, except enough heat! They have a gas fueled fake fireplace to heat the room. Clearly not enough when it is cold there. The overnight temp had to have been below freezing. We also used a little heater fan that was in the closet area. That helped. We were even too cold to get in the shower. Just the right size room for the two of us. We did enjoy a full kitchen, to ourselves. With the bitter cold came clear skies and beautiful sites of a God's country. read more

This is a small, family style hotel. We were met out front by a friendly couple, their granddaughter, and her adorable cat. There is one full suite with a kitchen and all of the other rooms share small kitchens with one other room. The rooms are small but clean and have all of the necessary amenities including wi fi. But the best feature is the view of the Klamath River running along the property, beautiful trees, and mountains. There are Adirondack chairs and a porch swing out on a large lawn in front of the rooms and little table and chairs on the porch in front of each room (where we ate dinner we made in the kitchen), all of which look over the view. read more

Klamath River Resort Inn is delightful. As the pictures show, it is right on the river; you go to sleep and wake up to the music of the river. it is a great place to get away from it all. the hotel is off the beaten path; there is no cell service and no wifi, although they do offer satellite TV. They do not provide simple amenities like soap or shampoo, but the in-room coffee maker uses real coffee, and the bath towels are as plush and soft as my own towels at home. I will book a room here every time I am in the area overnight. read more

Understand that I assign ratings based on value (what I get for what I paid) and expectations for the area that I'm in. So if I'm in downtown San Francisco and I pay a lot of money for a hotel that had average service and a decent room, my three stars were based on expectations. That being said, my expectations for a place to stay the night before a river rafting trip in remote Happy Camp were managed, I'd like a clean bed and bathroom (check) for a reasonable price. What I did not expect on the way down the everlong Highway 96 dodging deer and mountain lions with no way to contact them because there is no cell signal and The Wife is feeling really nervous because she didn't notice the office closed at 9:00 so for two hours I'm wondering if we are sleeping in the car (if that sentence is long, so was the drive). Instead, we arrive and John and Yukon were there, greeting us very warmly, noting that it happens all the time because the roads are not what people expect, and they let us into our rooms and tell us we can check in tomorrow. Whew! We get in, and the rooms are a bit dated, but they were very clean and a big bonus was they had wi-fi, satellite TV, air conditioners, and a kitchen with cooking supplies, a refrigerator, and a sink. These amenities really exceeded my expectations, and if I were the fishing type, I could see spending a few days here with the other things you can do in the wonderfully gorgeous Klamath River valley. What really capped it off was that they let us keep our cars on their lot while we did our O.A.R.S rafting trip (they apparently have a good working relationship with the company), and when we returned they let us get changed out of smelly river clothes in a room and offered us water and such. So yes, the lodge is not appointed like a Marriott, but you can't expect that in a remote forest area. The service and unexpected amenities (along with the very reasonable rates) really show this place to be worthy of the fifth star. read more

We made reservations as far in advance as possible, as we were told that we could not book reservations for 2021, until after January 1ts. Our family, and our extended family booked the whole resort except for 1 room. We confirmed our reservations 2 weeks before our event, then 1 week before our event our reservations were canceled, with no contact other than a letter saying that they were over booked. We not recommend this place at all!! read more

If I could NOT give this excuse for a resort and inn a star, I would. First off, if you have plans to go to happy camp. Don't. Just don't. Change your plans. Think of an excuse. Leave as quickly as possible. And save yourself the embarrassment of telling anyone you even drove the treacherous windy road down. It's known to the rest of southern Oregon as a "meth town", with pods of sketchy people smoking and drinking outside at every turn. I'll save you and I the trouble and not go into details about I ended up here, but I did.. And if you happen to as well, do not go to this particular cest pool. We arrived to the "RESORT" and "INN" and were welcomed to the real life Bates Motel. It was run down, and looked nothing like their pictures on yelp nor their website. One picture on yelp boasts that the rooms are "very shady". This is a lie. There is hardly any shade outside and the river was running so fast, it even swept away one of the three big labs running around on the property. I came with my friends and her two little girls and they could only stand on the edge. Even getting down to the river was a feat for a little 6 year old. We stayed in the "Herbert Hoover suite" which we put $350 down for per night, due to the fact the website and the owners told us that it was "amazing" "had AC" "was great for kids" etc etc. Upon arrival the owner looked at her husband and said "the air is on right, honey?" to which he replied "yes m'am." They both told us "what a treat" we were in for. Well... We were in for something, and a treat was not it. When the owner opened up the door, it was as if he opened up the oven door to a thanksgiving turkey roasting in the oven for 6 hours. The AC was NOT on. Nor was it working. Needless to say, on a 100 degree day, the room was even hotter. It smelled musty and as if a dog had gone out of its way to pee and rub itself all along the walls, carpet and furniture. Some "high" points: Slow working wifi White clean looking towels Fully functional kitchen Their "amenities" included a creepy massage from someone, it didn't really say where the massage was going to take place. They were charging $20 to use a telescope. Really?? Albeit, there were other fun and overpriced activities like gold panning and supervised kayaking. But again, overpriced activities. We were so appalled with the place that we called them and said we would only stay the one night that we already paid for ($350 need I remind you) but that we would leave well before check out the next morning. His wife picked up and said her husband would be back later on and we could talk to him then. We left for a few hours to visit some camp grounds and when we came back the owner was outside waiting for us. He didn't care to hear our side or compromise. Maybe find a working AC unit? Or only have us pay $150 a night instead of the $350? He said we either had to pay the full amount right then in there, or we had 10 minutes to get off his property before he called the sheriffs department. He was rude and his attitude was very unnecessary given that we had small children with us who were carsick from the drive down and we had already paid (yes I'll tell you again) $350 on a piece of $&*t room. We high tailed it out there and drove the hour and eight minutes up to country hills motel in cave junction that had affordable/reasonably priced motel rooms and cabins. But I'll give them a separate review. Anyway, I've now found myself in Jacksonville at a gorgeous bed & breakfast and have been wine tasting and exploring the last two days. All the locals here have looked at my friend and I like we were crazy for going to happy camp, or "unhappy camp" as some called. All in all, if you don't mind paying the price for a place like this, then go. But the area is not kid-friendly, it's extremely hot, and it's NOT worth the drive. Cave junction, Jacksonville, Ashland, etc have places to swim, zip line, wine taste, kayak, eat, sleep, etc etc. for a much cheaper price. Plus, everything is cleaner, worth the price, and the PEOPLE are friendly and accommodating. I'm not a snob, maybe to a degree for comfort, but I'm definitely not looking for a five-star hotel near camp grounds. Really, the main issue here is that they charged us so much for something that was definitely not worth the price. The bed and breakfast we are staying at now has 5 beds, AC, two stories, a fully functional kitchen, a pool, a tennis court, beautiful scenery, shady patios and it's LESS THAN HALF THE PRICE KLAMATH RESORT AND INN CHARGED US. Yes, less than half the price. Klamath river resort and inn sucks. Period. read more

What a delight in so many ways. My husband and I hiked north from Etna and sought a place to relax (and get clean!) The Klamath River Resort Inn exceeded our expectations. We were picked up by John, the owner, who treated us to an informal history of the local area. We found him to be incredibly knowledgeable and committed to running a quality, clean, and special business. Later he helped shuttled us back to Etna. He's a true resource and a wealth of information. The inn itself was quite a spot. It appears to be the only riverfront lodge in the area. From our room we could walk less than 100 yards down to the beautiful Klamath River. We swam and lounged in the Adirondack chairs. Later we accessed our room's shared kitchen and relaxed in the new and comfortable beds. John's previous life was as a contractor and his attention to detail and quality work shows in how he's renovated the rooms. We really appreciated how tidy and new everything felt. Later we watched the sunset over the river, ending a lovely day. I can imagine paying 3x as much for a room as John charges; it's quite a value (especially coming from the Bay Area.) We look forward to returning when we have more time to explore the Klamath with kayaks. read more

I traveled through Happy Camp for work. Actually staying two days here. This place is very nice and has been completely updated by its new owner John, (who was amazing to visit with and had several life stories on how he ended up in Happy Camp) The place was very clean and had beautiful views of the river that runs right next to the property. has chairs and several other outdoor activities to do while you are staying here. The staff was friendly and the rooms were comfortable and I will be staying here each time I travel through for work or pleasure. It is a beautiful place and worth checking out. read more

I found myself at this beautiful motel after driving for hours in search of a dry, clean, and safe place to rest. As soon as I connected with John, the owner, I could tell I was going to have a safe and good stay. John and Cindy (host, maid service) were both extremely friendly and accommodating. John really makes you feel at home on this beautiful lush property. The view is exceptional right on the Klamath River where you can see salmon jump, ducks wade, and if you're lucky a friendly otter that will say hello. I was additionally graced with a magical appearance of a doe as she wandered the property in search of food. There are so many gorgeous trees to look at on the property including pear and apples trees. And there is a creek that runs along side the property that provides the exceptional clean mountain spring water, which is additionally filtered and tastes amazing. All the rooms look out at not only the river, but the breathtaking mountains that majestically surround the river. The views are stunning. The rooms are very clean and most of them have been upgraded with new carpets, flooring, bathrooms, kitchens, new furniture, remote controlled gas heated faux fire places and bedding. The rooms feel warm and inviting, which is an important quality to have in an overnight stay. It's clear John has put a lot of love into this property since he took it over. Each room comes with a fully equipped kitchen, which is wonderful to have making the room rate extremely reasonable for what you get. I highly recommend staying here even during the rainy season, but I look forward to returning in the summer. read more

I fell in love with this little lodge about 2 miles outside Happy Camp, nestled directly on the banks of the Klamath River. The owner, John, bought the place last year and is in the process of remodeling it, so although I wouldn't call it a luxury resort, it's perfect if you want to get away, enjoy nature with a cozy yet somewhat rustic environment; the place has a HUGE backyard directly on the river, overlooking the mountains. I also loved having my own kitchen to cook in and hanging out on the patio in front of my room overlooking the river. John is a very friendly, considerate and Italian-humored fun host. I was on a cross-country bike tour and he drove me into town several times for errands. I felt so at home, as John took me on a river rafting tour and welcomed me to join his family and friends for a big barbecue that evening. I'll definitely be back next year! read more

The location/setting of the Klamath River Inn is beautiful, along a gorgeous stretch of the Klamath a few miles upriver from Happy Camp. Beautiful riverfront property with easy chairs, fire pits, shade trees on a huge gently sloping lawn down to the river. Small, only (I think) six rooms plus the 2-bedroom "Hoover suite" where I stayed with a buddy for a fishing weekend. The property is a "diamond in the rough". Outside appearance rather worn and some junkiness (broken sign, trailers, etc.), but the setting is beautiful. This place has big potential and could be very, very nice with some TLC and a makeover. The Hoover suite accomodation was totally acceptable in terms of cleanliness, roominess, working TV and wireless, fully operational kitchen, good hot water, decent furnishings, etc. It was actually quite nice for a guys fishing weekend, but probably not nice enough to take a family for a few days vacation. Not great, but not many other options for lodging in Happy Camp area (as far as I could tell, only one other small motel in town). I would stay here again. read more

My husband and I just left (this morning) after 2 nights at this establishment and had a wonderful stay. We travel to outdoor recreational areas ALOT and therefore understand what to expect of these older remote "Americana" properties and realize that there are different levels of service and amenities. We made our reservation expecting an older bare-bones motel located in a beautiful environment and were happy to find so much more. While the rooms are very small and dated, they are clean and well appointed with new electric fireplaces, satellite TV, AC, wi-fi (that works!) and full kitchens (shared between rooms). The grounds are well maintained and include volleyball, BBQ's, chairs to lounge in and a fire-pit by the river. In addition there are kayaks to rent and a ride to put in and/or take out. I just can not say enough about the excellent and caring service that we received. The new owner, John, and his caretaker, Cindy, were absolutely wonderful. Our car was filthy from hiking in remote areas so John surprised us by washing it while we were kayaking on the River. Cindy noticed that I was in flip-flops (having forgotten to bring river shoes) so she loaned me her own Teva's for the day! Johns seems very committed to restoring this property to it's grander days (built in the 40's) and has in fact already remodeled two of the rooms. He gave us a tour and was extremely passionate about what his plans are. His excitement really rubs off on you and my husband and I look forward to returning with more of our family to enjoy the fruits of his labor! read more

I have reserved multiple rooms here two years in a row for group paddling trips. They provide great, friendly service, and a super on-river environment. Well maintained and clean. Cool BBQ patio and kitchenettes make this a fun spot to relax after a day on the river. We'll be back. In my opinion, any review of this place before the new ownership is of VERY limited use. Just came home from an outstanding visit to Happy Camp and the Klamath River Resort Inn. Its clear that the new owner (John) is committed to turning this place into the gem of the community and if you are looking for a destination for fishing or kayaking the Klamath, this is the place for you. We flew into Happy Camp airport, gave a phone call to KRRI, and John the owner came right over to pick us up at the airport! A short drive to the inn, we checked in, dropped off our bags, and stepped out to the river just in time for a Bald Eagle to come soaring by! How can you beat that. I think I can best describe the KRRI as a charming fishing inn with plenty of character. I enjoyed a couple of nights, sitting on porch, enjoying the river and the peacefulness. Each room has a mini-fridge with a coffee maker, flat screen TV, satellite channels as well as access to a full size kitchen. There are 6 standard room here (when I visited) and every two rooms share a full size kitchen. Great setup! For those of you that want to "go big" or plan on traveling with friends, check on the presidential suite! It is fantastic! Living room with fireplace, leather couch and chairs, dinning table, full kitchen, and two large bedrooms with king size beds. The owner has great plans to further improve this little gem and it will be great to watch it evolve. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to returning soon for some great salmon fishing with Ironhead Guide Service and staying at the KRRI. Thanks for the great service and hospitality John! read more

Stopped in at the Klamath River Resort on a long road trip through Northern California. We planned a trip with plenty of camping and varied types of lodging in order to fully appreciate what these areas have to offer. The hotel did not disappoint. We spent one day kayaking by ourselves through the scenic class 1 part of the Klamath and it was breathtaking. We spotted deer, otters, a bald eagle and quickly glimpsed a bear. The second day we took the rafting trip further down the Klamath with some class 3 rapids. This also was very fun and lucky us got to see a second bear for a good amount of time.Something unique about the experience was having the owner create us a CD of the experience. I've been charged by other rafting companies for a couple photos so I found that to be very kind. At night we had BBQ and sat next to the river where a fire was started for us by the owner James and enjoyed sights of the Milky Way. We had pleasant company to share the fire with but there were also other spots with chairs and fire rings if we had wanted some privacy. If you are coming to this inn do not expect luxury. The rooms are dated but clean and a welcome break from camping while still being able to enjoy the outdoors. This place is for nature lovers! The best part was the hospitality. My fiance and I recently stayed here for 3 nights and everything was great!!! The room was very nice, and even had access to a full kitchen which we didn't use since we were exhausted and the pizza place down the road is really good. We did a self-guided kayak trip down the river which Jon the owner set up for us with kayaks and a ride to start the day off down the river and then gave him a call when we were done kayaking and picked us up in 15 mins. Jon, the new owner was incredibly nice and is working on making this beautiful property even better than it already is. We loved getting to make a campfire at night right on the river with fire pits all set up with wood and chairs to relax in. My husband and son surprised me with a new found gateway to heaven. Our stay at Klamath River Resort Inn offered beauty, serenity and comfort all in one. The rooms are very well kept, with a fully equipped Kitchen. They provide BBQ grills all ready to go with an outdoor dining setting for a BBQ at sunset. The caretakers and the owner himself provide a professional yet personable experience. It is nice to start and end ones day surrounded by beautiful landscape and the soothing sound of the flowing Klamath River. I enjoyed walking the property, and the adjacent tree trails, and yoga in the morning to start my day, while the anglers dropped their lines anticipating the Bite! John, the owner, introduced us to the Kelly River, where we enjoyed hiking and fishing. The Service we needed we got... wifi and TV are a bonus... it that's what you are into. We will return for the beauty alone, knowing we will be well taken care of by John and his staff. Love Love the place, the vibe, the land and nature itself! If you want personal attention, there is no place better. Any reviews before December of 2014 are probably not accurate. That is when the current owner, John, bought the property, and he might be the nicest guy in America. There is everything you need. The rooms are air conditioned, there are kitchen facilities, there is cable TV. If you are a river runner, you can put in and take out on the property. If you want to run other parts of the river, John will help you with your shuttle for a nominal fee. The view from the property is outstanding. You can sit outside your room and watch the river go by. The facilities are "historic," but improvements are constantly being made. The town of Happy Camp is a little different, but that was not why I went there any way. Give this place a try. read more

For a fishing camp , this place is fine and the price is right . The Hoover suite is spacious and seems top notch. We stayed in a regular room which was clean enough and plain, but had some broken amenities. THe owner is new and he is a nice accommodating guy. If you plan to fish or kayak, check into the river and weather conditions before travel. This place is off the beaten path. Kelly Lake is a hidden jewel that requires 4WD or careful driving. We just had the pleasure of staying for 3 nights in the Herbert Hoover suite and we all so enjoyed it! What a gorgeous setting! It is right on the Klamath River with a large grass slope and huge old Sycamore trees set above it. It was so peaceful sitting under the trees, listening to the river and watching the Orioles fly from tree to tree. The rooms were comfy and cozy. It is not fancy and pretentious, but that is not my style anyway. It was great to have a kitchen and we prepared all of our meals there. I have to say that one of the highlights of the stay was meeting the owner, John. He couldn't have been nicer! There are fire rings near the river and when we wanted to have a fire, he brought down wood for us and even started the fire. Such a great guy! We are hoping to return there again soon! This "Inn" has not been regularly cared for or updated, you should not expect it to be fancy in any way. It is conveniently located right on the river and the views are beautiful. The room itself is probably the least pleasant thing about the stay for me, that being said I did enjoy sitting by the fire that the owner lights each night that is next to the river and the shuttling service and the inflatable kayaks provided. The owner is very nice and definitely tried to make sure we had what we needed for our rafting trip which was very enjoyable. I felt that everything was very overpriced though. My bf and I would absolutely use the shuttling service again as that was very handy. The town of Happy Camp is not happy at all-there are two restaurants and one grocery store. There is not much to do there and it's not a welcoming town. If the cost to stay had been much lower I would have felt it was worth it. Next time I would prefer to camp as that would be much more enjoyable. read more
