I noticed this establishment a few times when in the vicinity of MacGregor shopping center and today I had a wood working need and drove over on a Saturday afternoon! Another customer with his son arrived at the same time and entered right behind me. We were greeted promptly and I let the owner/manager know that we were not together. I showed him the wooden item that I bought with me. I was not sure what the establishment exactly is and was hoping that it might have craftsman onsite to remake something that was broken. The person was kind and patient with me and recommended a waterproof glue and how to reassemble it with useful tips! Currently, I have it clamped together awaiting 24 hours and hoping for positive results. Regardless of the results, I felt the overall experience was welcoming and would return. Came in looking for some different wood for my hobby. Tony and Bob were great to talk to, even if I wasn't the best at terminology, and they were both very knowledgeable. Got some very nice ambrosia maple, some elm, and wood dyes for a decent price. Thin stock is hard to find in person, and they have a good variety of it in types I haven't heard of before (see picture). I will be back again as soon as time permits for more! read more

Honestly, I haven't used Yelp in many years but I had to come on and review Klingspor's. What an AWESOME company! I ordered some high-end spray lacquer that was costing me upwards of $30 on Amazon. Klingspor's had it for 1/3 of that, and it was super easy to order! Just to be safe, before I placed the order for several cans, I chatted with a guy named Mike via the website's chat feature. Nice to have a real human, not a bot, to deal with, btw. He checked availability for me very quickly. He was very friendly and helpful. My items shipped super fast and I received them a few days later. I was honestly expecting it to take at least a week and a half or so, but it was here in a jiff! But let me tell you about how well the cans of lacquer were packaged, because I'm a whole new level of impressed. They carefully packaged the 5 cans I bought in a new box with the eco-friendly packing peanuts in it to keep them from shifting around. They sealed the box, then wrapped that box in eco-friendly padding, then packed that inside another box, which was taped up really well, as well. I figured that's worth mentioning because I've ordered a lot of delicate things online before and have ended up with broken items because they were packaged horribly. Whatever you order from Klingspor's is going to arrive in perfect condition, if what I received is any indication. Anyhow, so now I have a new favorite woodworking shop. Glad for that, because as a woodworker of 30 years, I've watched so many go out of business near me. I hope Klingspor's stays around a lot longer than the ones I've seen come and go. I have been trying to get Behlen master gel every since the woodcraft company on Oahu stopped shipping it to my island. Well, 64oz. arrived at my house today safe and sound and I'm getting to work. The shipping took a long time but I expected that since it is a finish and that was the estimate when I ordered. I didn't have to interact with anyone but if the online ordering and delivery all work well who needs another strep. I'm glad I tried them. read more

I completed the Introduction to Woodworking class Aug 17-18, 2018, taught by instructor Jay. The first day we learned the essential elements of wood and the appropriate application based on type and use. We then reviewed safety before beginning our project- a cutting board. On Day 1, we designed our boards and then began woodworking our boards using a jointer, table saw, planer, wood glue and clamps. The 1/2 day on Day 2 was spent learning how to cut to finished size and finish the board with 2 grades of sand paper on a power sander and routing the top edge. We completed the project with how to finish this wood - which was by using butcher block oil. It was a great introduction to a wonderful skill. I will take more classes! read more

They screwed up one of my first two orders. I swore I'd never use them again, but relented. Stupid me. This time I ordered two different 93" bandsaw blades. They sent me two of the same saw blade. Then they expected me to ship the incorrect saw blade back to them at my expense. When I called to question why I had to pay the shipping, they said if they determine it was not my fault they would reimburse me for the UPS shipping cost. How could it be my fault? The packing order clearly lists both bandsaw blade SKUs and says 1 each. Sloppy service, and customer is wrong until we say so customer policy. Three's a charm. There are a lot of other options out there. read more

I needed to order router bits and called Klingspor's where I was helped by Randy. He offered great advice on the bits, and I ordered a number of them that were made by Whiteside. Some were backordered, and Randy told me they would be shipped as soon as they arrived with no additional shipping cost. The first group of bits arrived in about three days, and the second set followed soon after. There was a small problem regarding the storage cases for the bits that had been pictured in the online catalog but no longer came with two of the sets of bits. I called Randy who told me Klingspor's would make me happy with me purchase. He was right! Within a few days I received the storage cases at no additional cost to me. On July 6, 2021 I ordered four cans of Deft Clear Wood Finish Aerosol. I paid for my order. Nowhere on the website or on my emailed order confirmation did it say the item was out of stock. Today, July 19 I called to check the status of my order. I was informed the item is on backorder and should arrive by the end of the month. It would have been nice to know this when I ordered the item instead of waiting two weeks, thinking my order was on its way. Anything to make and keep a sale I guess. Sad! read more

I had the same problem as Bob V. I ordered a set of turning tools and was informed that the were on back order and due back in stock in November 22 (It's June). I asked for a refund and was told it would come--still waiting and getting annoyed that they would let someone place an order on something that was back ordered so long! There are two options for woodworking supplies in the triangle. Woodcraft or Klingspor's. However, I often order tools and supplies online instead. Sometimes, and for some things, it is better to pick up in person. As a small business owner, I prefer to support the smaller business when I can. That is why I decided to come to Klingspor's to spend about $500 on a few items instead of going to Woodcraft. I also wanted my money to support a more local business and at least a local shop. That was a huge mistake. I have been to Klingspor's a few times. They are a great place for sandpaper. Otherwise, prepare to spend more money and get horrible service. I've had good interactions with the younger guy that works at Klingspor's (has tattoos). However, at least one of the older heavyset guys at the store is horrible to deal with and couldn't care less about the store maintaining customers. I had two things on my list during my last visit. First, I wanted a Woodpecker Drill Press Table, which was on display. I asked the older heavyset guy at the counter if he had any more in stock and he rudely pointed to two boxes nearby with a snide response as if I was stupid. The boxes he pointed to were roller stands... not drill press tables. Apparently they were out of stock. Although already frustrated by the way I was treated, I figured I'd at least pick up the next item. I asked him if he had any Festool CT26 Extractor Boom Arms in stock. He didn't know what it was and kept interrupting me saying "What for?", etc., again acting like I was stupid. Without even letting me explain, I realized it was ridiculous for me to continue this argument and support this place. I left for Woodcraft where they promptly helped me get my drill press table and the dust extractor arm, which were both in stock. They earned the $500 and my future business. I will never return to Klingspor's and suggest others save their time and just go to Woodcraft instead. It is tempting to want to support a smaller and more local business, but businesses with employees like this aren't interested in being sustainable and don't deserve to be. I've never taken one of their classes, but they look quite interesting. They sell vintage hand tools as well if you are looking for something hard to find. Alright, so I have this bed that had been in my family for a while and it has finally been passed down to me, and what do I do? crack the side rail, Joe said it was from to much horse play :D. These guys know their wood, I have never been to a speciality shop just for woodworking but if I ever take it up this is going to be my place. But back to the bed rail, he charges me 30 dollars for something I was expecting I was going to have to rebuild it just needed a repair instead. The staff is the absolute worst. They were rude from beginning to end. From speaking down to us regarding the beginner project and attempting to convince us that we needed two beginner kits at $90 a piece and pretty much that was the only options or leave. Even checking out with the block of wood, since I was able to find help online while I stood in their shop, they were rude when they asked for my zip code and I gave it to them and said you're not in our system? If you come in here again that's why we're asking so if you don't want to be in our system don't give the zip code. As if to say we just wasted their time. Everyone has been attentive, professional and polite. The stock is as good or better than any big box store (granted they don't have the cheep products) and it is all great value for the price. I went here today to discuss a new project I was trying to take on - a wooden chest. I let the guys know up front that I'm no pro at woodworking. My coworker has tools (miter/table saw, router, etc) that he was willing to let me use and from all of the research I've done online, it seemed very doable. I was told first that I should just buy a chest from the store ($1400) and when I explained that this was more than I was looking to spend and that I wanted to make it myself I was essentially laughed at. They told me that there was no way I could just build a chest without any experience and that woodworking wasn't something that you could just pickup without classes or something first. Their advice? Take woodworking classes at NC State, do some easier projects and then come back once I know more about the craft. There are several things that are extremely aggravating about this. 1) I'm not an idiot. My dad runs a welding business and I grew up using power tools, saws, and machines in general. I have an engineering degree and work a full time job as an electrical engineer. 2) I know for a fact that building a chest, while not child's play, is not something that is impossible to figure out. We live in a time where I can literally find everything I need, especially for something like woodworking, on the internet. I thought it would be helpful to discuss plans and ideas with a local expert. Little did I know this store was full of arrogant guys. 3) Regardless of how my chest turns out, I gave these guys the opportunity to make a sale. Judging by how many cars are usually in the parking lot, and definitely by how many people were in the store while I was there (0), a sale could have been nice for the day. I will never go back to this store (except maybe to show them my cool woodworking projects that I made without woodworking classes from NC State). Maybe these guys should hit up NC State and learn how to be better business professionals. read more

Their new location in Cary has a great inventory of lumber, tools, equipment and supplies. They are my "go-to" source for local woodworking related needs and their products and supplies are a much more professional grade than what you will find at the local Lowes or Home Depot. I'm not sure what the one-star reviews are talking about. I found the staff to be extraordinarily helpful and knowledgeable and didn't get any sort of attitude whatsoever. Of course, I didn't walk in there belittling the woodworking profession and pretending I knew what I was doing just because I have played around with a few tools, so maybe that helped. I spent about ten minutes there; they went right to what I wanted and gave me pointers on application. I went to this shop because I was looking for a specific varnish called Waterlox for my butcher block countertops that my local Ace didn't have. Now I am not the most knowledgable person concerning wood projects and realizing this I had done extensive internet research on the options for sealing butcher block countertops and came to the conclusion that the instructions that used Waterlox had the best results. When I arrived in the store, I found the waterlox on the shelf and went to check out. I wanted to ask a question about applying the waterlox ( since this was a woodworking shop and all) and so I started to tell the employee why I was purchasing the waterlox. Before I could even ask the question the employee proceeded to tell me that everything I had done was wrong and very condescendingly said that "I shouldn't believe everything I read on the internet." I explained to him that I had gotten most of my information off of professional websites which he and the customer in line behind me apparently thought was hilarious. He recommended a water based polyurethane instead of the waterlox. Lucky for him I took his recommendation and my business and went right back to Ace hardware to buy the water based poly. I think I will check out the other woodworking shop in Raleigh next time I need something that Ace doesn't have. read more
