I've been here several times now, so I feel like I'm seeing several consistencies: The ambiance, cocktails, and food are all phenomenal. Everything is a feast for the eyes and belly. It's a surprisingly NYC-tier establishment for such a rural area. Doesn't hurt that they have a great property/vista with ample parking. However, the service has always been...lackluster? I think for the cost, I'm disappointed by how unengaged with me or unknowledgeable of the menu the servers are. I also have never seen the same server more than once, which makes me concerned about turnover. Ultimately I always enjoy the experience and any visitors I bring are impressed, so I'll always make this my go-to in and around the the area. read more

I went to a party at this outstanding location. From the moment I entered the long and winding driveway, I was impressed by the care that had been taken to make everything visually interesting! The landscaping was gorgeous, the view from the top, unparalleled. Once I arrived, I was struck by the exquisite choices that had been made throughout the estate. Everything from the smallest light fixture to the large unusual embroidered tapestry over the fireplace was chosen with care and really unique and fun. The room our party was in was spacious with an outstanding view of the mountains. The cocktail I had was fruity and unusual and then came the food!!! Everything was beautifully presented as well as being absolutely delicious. The dessert selection was amazing (I bake a lot so I know what I'm talking about!!) The waitstaff was among the best I have ever encountered- they were very attentive without hovering and being annoying. Every one of them that I spoke with throughout the night was personable, helpful and kind. The sunset view from the second floor was breathtaking. This is really an amazing place. Klocke is a gorgeous spot for a drink, meal, or event. It's high end and the price list would seem more at home in NYC or the Hamptons than Claverack, so it doesn't feel like a local crowd - perhaps catering to second home or Airbnb crowds. The views are truly spectacular and the hospitality matches it 100%. Ditto to the creative, beautifully presented food. The patrons on the other hand... leave a lot to be desired. I don't know why but every time I visit there are demanding, flashy, entitled guests (mostly gen X and boomers) who are rude to the staff. It gives Hampton crowd, which is so out of place in Claverack. I also like the 14% "operations fee" is a bit tacky at a self-proclaimed fine dining destination - I support paying staff a living wage and providing benefits, but that should be reflected in menu prices, especially when cocktail run $20. Take a note from fellow fine dining establishment Dirt Candy and do away with tipping altogether. read more

I was in the area with two girlfriends and Klocke was recommended to us by someone we'd met as a lovely location to enjoy some drinks. We decided to check it out! The drive there is absolutely lovely- we were there in the fall, so the leaves were all changing colors and the scenery was lovely. When we arrived, we weren't sure what the set up was- we had been thinking it was more of a winery where you could grab a glass of wine and pick a seat, but we found it was a restaurant with a gorgeous bar area as well. So we requested a table in the sunshine which was so wonderful. We ordered several kind of wine as well as the Klocke Estate flight to sample. Everything was quite tasty! We also ordered the three cheese board and the Little Gems to share. It ended up being a perfect little snack and beverages stop in a beautiful location. She explained the dishes in detail and gave great recommendations. We got the cheese plate and roasted carrots to start, followed by the halibut, pork chop, and crispy potatoes. Everything looked amazing and was seasoned and cooked well. My only complaint is the 14% operations charge. The food is already priced higher than other places in the area. The location perched on a hilltop overlooking Columbia County will take your breath away.. come here around sunset and it's a life altering memory/ thing of beauty. The space itself is gorgeous and welcoming. The customers are all lovely because who isn't so happy to be there? The food and service is the chef's kiss (pun intended). Had the Mayonnaise eggs, the baked camembert and the duck confit salad with the espresso ice cream for dessert. All spectacular but I must say the duck was some of the best confit I've ever had (and I've had a lot). I was so busy devouring the duck I forgot to take a picture of it. WOW WOW WOW!!! Spent a recent afternoon and evening with friends at Klocke to celebrate a milestone birthday, and we had no idea it would be as completely MAGICAL as it was! First of all, the location is just about as spectacular a view as you'll find in the area, at the top of a hill looking westward over the beautiful Hudson Valley between Catskill and the town of Hudson. Perfect all afternoon, but absolutely breathtaking at sunset! The distillery tour & tasting was super-interesting, and the intentional planning that's gone into developing the estate is impressive. If you're interested in the agriculture & production side of the Klocke business, this tour is highly recommended. The bar is gorgeous, complete with full view of the mountains, and the friendly bartenders were fun to watch. Drinks were expertly balanced, and we enjoyed several rounds before retiring to our beautifully-set table for dinner. Everything we ate was fresh, creative, and absolutely delicious. Our favorite food experience of the evening was the 2-tier tower of icy-cold fresh veggies, boiled eggs, and shrimp, served with 2 flavors of aioli - the fact that something SO SIMPLE could be assembled SO PERFECTLY is a tribute to the high quality of the extremely fresh ingredients served here, as well as the total creativity of the chef. We all agreed that we could have made a complete meal of this veggie tower, plus some bread and a good bottle of wine - true perfection! We lived in the Bay Area for many years, and spent many long, lazy afternoons & evenings at various wineries and restaurants throughout Sonoma and Napa Valley - but we all agreed that none of these experiences was as relaxing and truly SPECIAL as our time spent on the beautiful hilltop at Klocke. If you are looking for a special night out or a fancy style meal, this is the place to go. I wish I could say it would be an every day spot, but the prices just don't allow for that. That being said, that is NOT a complaint, they are matching prices to quality. The higher the quality the more you pay, so no complaints there. There is a WIDE selection of spirits available which makes for an amazing pre (or post) dinner cocktail experience. The food did NOT leaving me wanting for more (I just wish I had saved more room come time for dessert) Of course we still ordered the desserts, but could not enjoy them to the max, because of our full tummies! What a stunning addition to the Catskills dining scene. This review is for the *restaurant only* but if the rest of the Klocke Estate experience is anything like the dinner offered here, I'm certain the five stars will extend to every aspect of this place. I can't say I remember where I first read about Klocke Estate and I low key want to gate keep it because I am selfish and want easy access for myself, but word will be out soon enough if it isn't already. Every aspect of the dining experience at Klocke Estate is impeccably curated; from the design and decor to the impressive mixology program to the farm-to-table-inspired food menu. I hope to be back during the day to experience the full beauty of the estate as it was both dark and rainy when we were here so the views were minimal. We come up to Hudson from NYC a lot and have the same repertoire of restaurants when we're here. They're all fantastic and we've yet to tire of them but we're always excited when there's a new opening. We knew we were in for something different when our navigation system brought us up a steep and windy hill (kind of eerie because it was raining quite a bit but also very cool and cinematic) to the estate. Again, I'm sure the views are great in the daytime but the inside was stunning enough we weren't too concerned about views once we were in there. The bar area is shining and vast, as a bar at a distillery should be. The dining room is elegant and refined with creative elements woven in. Though the food menu is what ultimately brought me here, I was just excited to dive into the cocktail menu. The menu is creative and varied, beautifully curated as everything here seems to be. To start, I got the The Wanderer (Agave de Cortes Mezcal, Salers Bitter, Cocchi Americano, Tarragon, Cucumber) which is a variation on a white mezcal negroni, one that is particularly herbal and vegetal. Crisp and clean and a little bitter, everything I was in the mood for. My partner got the Good As Gold (La Diablada Pisco, Barr Hill Gin, Saffron, Lemon, Egg White, Sumac) because he jumps at any chance of ordering a Pisco Sour, and he said that this was possibly the best Pisco Sour he'd ever had. Extremely high praise. I then got the The Draper's Guild (Park VSOP Cognac, Rittenhouse Rye, Sweet Vermouth, Cointreau, Lapsang Souchong), which was like a smoky and slightly sweet Manhattan. My partner got the Everything You Want (Ki No Bi Kyoto & Tanqueray Gins, Blanc Vermouth, Granny Smith Apple, Miso, Lemon, Soda) which we both loved. Instead of typical food-dessert we split the Vikings Don't Cry (Dudognon 'Reserve' 10 yr Cognac, Good Vodka, Linie Aquavit, Cold Brew, Cacao) because an espresso martini with aged aquavit is an espresso martini I can get behind. We both loved this one too - all 10/10. Food-wise, we stuck with mostly smaller/shareable-type dishes and split one main. We ended up sampling pretty much an entire grocery store's worth of produce by the time the evening was done, and in a variety of ways. Like everything here, the food is refined and perfectly executed. Eats, below: Little Gems w/ cucumber, radish, red onion, turnip, fines herbes & yogurt vinaigrette, dukkah: A Super light and fresh salad to start of the meal with some generous wedges of lettuce and a delicate yet flavorful dressing. Beets and Melon w/ mint labneh, cured olive, pistachio, sorrel: A We had just tried a beets and melon dish a few weeks ago somewhere else and that one was good but this one was better. Few things are better than good summer melon, this dish being no exception. Sweetness from the beets and melon, nuttiness and earthiness from the pistachio and sorrel, and some herbed labneh to top it all off. Le Petit Aioli w/ summer vegetables, chilled shellfish, farm egg; A+ This was the wild card of the evening and I'd say it's probably best to order with more people (there is a bigger size too), we did our best on it because it was so good. A huge portion of veggies, a hardboiled egg, and chilled shrimp over ice, served with three different aiolis for your dipping pleasure. Such a fun idea and so tasty. A very impressive variety of veggies here and hard to pick a favorite, though I found myself going for the purple and white radishes often. Duck Breast w/ caramelized fennel, leek soubise, peach mostarda: A+ The main event, for good reason. This had everything you'd want in a perfect duck preparation: beautifully executed meat, sweetness, various highlights of root vegetables. A visit is worth it for this dish alone. Roasted Carrots w/ carrot top chimichurri: A In hindsight we did not need these because of the veggie party earlier on, but they were still delicious, and nice to try some cooked veggies after mostly raw stuff. The chimichurri was delicious and also economical which is always appreciated. read more

I wanted to learn more about the distillery and taste what they make. I have a vacation home in the area and love to support local businesses. Went to the Easter Brunch this morning. We had a windy but bright sunny day. The views were beautiful and if in the right seats, you get a great window view of the panoramic scenery. The prix fixe menu we ordered from had fresh fruit and a breath/muffin, biscuit , croissant combo with delicious butter and jam. We each ordered a cocktail. The white vermouth spritzer was refreshing and the Bloody Mary was delicious. I ordered the pesto, hen of the wood toast point and my brother ordered the grilled carrots. We selected the pesto cavatelli with ramp, asparagus and peas and the duck confit hash brown with poached eggs, as or main entree. We shared and the two complemented each other. We finished with coffee. The waiter was friendly and helpful and very attentive. The whole experience was very enjoyable. We hung around afterward for a tasting and listened to Kristine talk about the history of the place. I ended getting the white vermouth to take home. We have dined at Klocke twice in the short time it has been open, and had drinks at the bar on a third visit. Unfortunately, the menu does not include a fish entree. My wife had the pasta both times and does not eat the other 4 entree choices. I suggest that a fish entree be added so that we can dine here more. Otherwise, the restaurant is beautiful, the food and drinks are outstanding and the service is impeccable. They even have a brandy sommelier, who will guide you through the extensive brandy menu. read more

It's a destination and an experience. This stunning new restaurant is situated at the highest point, surrounded by rows and rows of grapes and apple orchards. The panoramic views with the Catskill Mountains as the backdrop for a sunset that didn't disappoint. The food was fresh and light yet filling with a nice selection of entrees and sides, but make sure you save room for dessert. And the drink selection did not disappoint. We are area residents that eat out often and looked forward to dining here, especially after reading the reviews. We were sorely disappointed by the menu, the lighting and the dark, drafty dining room. The halibut was overcooked and ho hum with poor presentation. There was no bread and butter available just focaccia as an appetizer. The Chicory Salad was delicious, but the duck was boring. The waiter was personable, but very inexperienced, especially about wine. What you normally expect in an expensive white table cloth restaurant was lacking - no coat check, no front of the house, no checking on your meal, no amuse bouche, no white table cloth, no fine china or silver - no fish knife. On a summer night the view must be extraordinary of the Catskills and Hudson Valley but with European pretensions they must up their game to meet the hype. Definitely not a 5 or a 4. read more

i don't even know where to begin! we were early for our reservation and sat around the bar and ordered the most epic, beautiful cocktails. the bartender was so talented and inviting and made us really perfect drinks. we got seated for dinner and every. single. element. was well-thought out. from the design of the place to the warmth of the atmosphere, it was a 10/10. the chicken liver mouse was the best i've ever had. we also ordered the scallops, duck, and steak as entrees and they were incredibly delicious. we're big foodies- my husband and i have tried every cool, new restaurant in the hudson valley and klocke is absolutely in my top 3 as of now. the service was attentive, especially the host. thank you, thank you, thank you for a wonderful night. so beyond worth it. read more

My wife took her best friend and me (celebrating birthdays three days apart) to Klocke Estate. Food, drinks, service, and view are equally superb. We were seated at 7pm, but at 7:30 our waiter encouraged us to take our drinks (house cocktails featuring brandy - Klocke is a high end brandy distiller) on to the deck outside to watch the sunset. The views everywhere on the property are spectacular, but the view of the Catskills from the patio behind the bar, where we were led, is literally and figuratively the pinnacle.
