Downtown Center Branch YMCA - View from gym

    Downtown Center Branch YMCA

    Medical Center, Downtown

Barbie loves when I go downtown to her center, but I have to branch out sometimes, so I came to…read morethis gym in Louisville to work on the muscles for a bit. I have a lot of good things to say about this very unusual and busy YMCA in downtown Louisville and I can see why everybody loves it because the people working here are off-the-charts friendly. The guy at the front desk was a southern gentleman of the younger variety and he helped me get into the building and told me where everything is and he could sense that I was in a hurry so he hurried along his instructions. He got me in within just a few seconds of showing up. So he gets 10 stars out of five. However the locker system just doesn't work. I used a very similar system in Memphis the other day and having never used a punch-button combination locker before I followed the sign and it worked perfectly and there were no issues. Not so much in Louisville. The signs are complex and contradictory. There are not many of the signs so I didn't even see one before I started using it. An old man told me how to work it and I did what he said and it immediately locked my stuff in without me entering a combination. I could not get to my stuff so I had to go all the way down at which point the guy at the desk told me that I could have just called him and the old man on the way out told me that this happens all the time and not to feel bad. Well I don't mean to be a jerk but if this happens all the time then there's a problem! Change the system LOL. The reason why it happens all the time is because these things just don't work very well. It's that simple. He told me that I could park for just a dollar in the garage across the street which I couldn't find in traffic, which was awful on all the streets near this Y, and didn't feel like carrying all my stuff from a different block anyway so I just use street parking which is freaking $0.25 for eight minutes which is absolutely freaking ridiculous. This is not New York City and in fact a lot of New York City has much more affordable parking than that. Ew. The actual equipment is pretty good and they have some nice mats and various different things that I could use and then there are other things that could be improved. Such as the bikes. And there was the whole locker room drama because apparently there's a lot of theft around here or at least people think there is so I was told not to leave my stuff in the locker room even for a couple of minutes unattended. The janitor guy actually came into the shower to tell me to come back and get my stuff. Pulled the curtain back on me naked in there, soaping up, and almost made me slip over while simultaneously having a heart attack. I appreciated the consideration and even gave me a 3 minute lecture about how things can go missing even with just a few seconds and he's absolutely right, in theory. But considering that I only spent 90 minutes here and then half of that time was dealing with drama, it wasn't really as appreciated as he meant it to be. The drama of the parking situation. The drama of the lockers that don't work properly. The drama of the shower warning. If you consider all of that then I think you'll consider four stars for this gym to be pretty generous. Should really be less, but the southern young gentleman checking me in and sorting out my locker was so nice, he carries the 4 star rating. But basically no workout for me because of dramaaaa. Next time I'll use one in a different part of the city.

This is not only the best ymca I have been to but the best workout experience I have had and I have…read morebeen all over the country. They are friendly and have everything A plus.

We kept her home for a week, and her first day back she was bit by another classmate. Please read my full review. My daughter had been at Providence since she was 6 months old. It was the hardest decision I have ever made to decide who to trust my first born child to care for. In infant care, there was stability and regular teachers there, and it was great. When our daughter became a toddler (she is 2 now) there was a lot of instability in the teachers in the class and level of care. Our daughter was bit repeatedly. On one occassion, it drew blood and she had a scar. We also tried to give a margin of grace as things do happen and we were never irate or punishing, we just sought to come to a solution. Recently, an older kid dropped a piece of PVC pipe down the slide resulting in an open head wound on my 2-year-old. The staff did not transport her to the hospital despite acknowledging that "she probably needed stitches." Her father and I immediately take to the ER where she gets two staples in her head and we monitor her for signs of concussion. This happened on a Friday and the director and school officials never emailed, called, or checked on her. I had to seek out the daycare director, Lisa, on Monday to ask her what happened and what they were doing about it. A conversation I shouldn't have had to prompt in my opinion. At the time, I calmly talked to Lisa and she seemed apologetic and receptive of feedback, which made me feel like it was an honest mistake. We keep her home for a week until her staples were removed. Her first day back was today, and she got bit by another classmate. I go into the daycare admittedly livid, but this time the director just spouts off statistics says "these things happen" and she hasn't had a hospitalization incident in x amount of years and her record speaks for itself. She just told me how Providence is a top notch facility and everything else. She was very condescending. It became clear to me that they see kids here as statistics. I don't care if this was the first time a hospitalization incident has happened, as a parent, whose kid was hurt stats are not comforting. I removed her from Providence, and I won't be bringing her back. I care about protecting my kiddo and other parents being able to protect their kiddos, so I wanted to share my story.
