I really should've believed the other reviews. We got drinks reasonably quick, but then waited for a very long time to even put in an order. The table right next to us who had been there for a while was waiting for their food and it had been quite a bit. When they did get food, they only got about half of it and the rest of the order was missing they had to retake their order. They got a fill-in waitress halfway through their meal because their waitress was having some issues and she came back with a very odd explanation. When we finally got our order. We had already been in the restaurant for about 45 minutes. We all ordered hamburgers. They were definitely just standard frozen patties. The patties had definitely not been stored properly because they all tasted freezer burnt. I had cut my burger in half and so I didn't notice right away because I've been into the middle. My husband noticed his pretty much right away. After hearing multiple conversations between staff and a few snide/off remarks to customers, we decided to just pay our bill and leave. KMJ Diner is a hidden gem I am so glad I found. Their breakfast is absolutely amazing. Everything tastes fresh and made with care. The eggs are fluffy the pancakes are golden and the bacon is cooked just right. Every bite feels like comfort food at its best. The atmosphere is chill and relaxed. It is the kind of place where you can sip your coffee slowly and enjoy your morning without feeling rushed. The staff is always friendly and welcoming which really makes the experience even better. KMJ Diner opened very recently in the former CJ's. They also own the New Chambersburg Family Diner with a very similar menu. The menu is extensive offering breakfast fare all day, sandwiches, wraps, salads, soups, seafood (fried & broiled), steaks, chicken, Italian dinners, stir-fry, roasts, comfort dishes, and desserts, plus a kids menu (12 & under) and senior menu (60+). The prices here seem pretty reasonable. They offer in-house dining in 3 sections, with tables and booths. My friend and I stopped for dinner in Shippensburg and decided to give KMJ Diner a try since it just opened. We arrived here around 8:45 PM and the place wasn't busy. We were seated in the left dining room with a few other diners since the front bright dining area was closed and the staff was cleaning and breaking things down for closing. My friend ordered the KMJ Breakfast Special ($10.99 plus tax) with 2 thick pancakes, 2 scrambled eggs, homefries, bacon, and white buttered toast. This big breakfast was very filling and my friend gave me some bacon strips which were thick and chewy. I ordered the Seafood San-tortellini Special ($19.99 plus tax) served with soup or salad and baked garlic bread. The side salad was very basic, iceberg lettuce, tomato slices, red onion, carrot, and dressing on the side. The entree arrived hot served with 2 thick slices of baked buttery garlic bread. The portion was a good size which had broiled haddock, scallops, and shrimp in red tomato sauce with green olive with soft spaghetti (not tortellini) and topped with melted mozzarella cheese. The waitress dropped off the check as we were eating, so we didn't ask to order dessert being after 9pm as we finished dinner. The check total was $32.84 with tax and before tip. Overall, the food we had was pretty good, but nothing extraordinary. The service was decent with about 15 to 20 minutes for the food to come out. We also had to ask for napkins since there were none provided with the silverware which were packed in white paper pouches. It was towards the end of the evening (they close at 10pm) on our visit for a very late breakfast and later dinner. They also charge an extra $1 for most breakfast dishes served after 11am, outside of regular breakfast hours. read more

Tried this restaurant for the first time, walk in the only thing that was asked was how many, seated us. We sat there another customer came in behind us they were seated and waited on as soon as they sat down. Then the servers went back to the counter and started talking to each other and the customers. Left us sitting there. Oh yea they had women mud wrestling in thongs playing on the tv, what a class act. Never again will I step foot in that restaurant. read more

The food was just awful, perhaps the worst restaurant food I've ever had. 1) crab pretzel was a cheap microwave that twice came out so overcooked it was inedible (and uncutable) 2) scallops tasted like dish detergent 3) noodles in pasta were rubbery and inedible 4) Chx tenders were burnt, French fries burnt, crab cake top burnt to a crisp The only acceptable thing was the cheese sticks and they were also burnt. This was an absolute horrible experience. Crab cake came out cold, waitresses only wanted to complain about their lives very loudly behind the bar where the soda is. Along with the fact there were no vegetables in the salad and it had very old cucumbers. I do not recommend going to this diner. Shows why it was so empty! read more

We have eaten breakfast at KMJ diner and it was very good, so we decided to try dinner. What a disappointment I had a rib eye steak with baked potato, green beans and a cup of clam chowder. My wife had a seafood broil scallops, shrimp, crab cake. So here we go steak fatty and tough, baked potato was luke-warm/cold, green beans rubber, clam chowder tasteless. my wife's crab cake was a greasy blob, shrimp were deep fried, scallops laying in grease. Waitress was polite and attentive though hence the 2 stars . Parking lot was 1/4 full at 6 pm on a Friday eve. that should have been the 1st hint that something was wrong, but we like to form my own opinions. Needless to say we won't be back for dinner. I just ate here. my husband and I had breakfast and it was pleasant. the service was great and friendly. but the overall piece is the restaurant is being run poorly. there was 3 tables in the whole place bc it is god awful hot in there. the poor staff. the ac is broke and you can't even enjoy your stay there because of this. read more

New spot. Figured I'd give it a try. What's the first thing you need to know when entering a new restaurant? Do you seat yourself or do they seat you? There was no sign so I assumed I wait for someone to seat me. Three employees were milling about socializing, and I finally had to ask them do you seat yourself or do we get seated? As it turns out they seat you. I was a party of one so I was sat at the counter. The waiter arrived, and his under shorts were as much out of his trousers as they were in it. Not a fantastic look. The black diamond steak covered in crab meat was on special so that's what I ordered. I was given a choice between broccoli soup and chicken noodle soup. It was a tough choice so I picked broccoli soup. I was served chicken soup. I ate it anyhow. I was given what was clearly a recycled package of crackers with my soup. I thought about using them, but the package was sticky on the outside, so I decided not to. While sat at the counter, waiting on my food, I observed many servers, dipping the cups directly in the ice bin to get ice in drinks, without washing their hands first. Some of them I observed clearing down tables then going right to jamming cups in the ice with unwashed hands. There was an ice scoop there for them to use but no one used it. I also observed servers, getting lemon wedges out of the container with their bare hands and putting them in the drinks without having washed their hands. After I finished my meal, which tasted great by the way, I debated on ordering dessert. I decided against it when I noticed the ice cream that I had intended to order was being dipped with dippers that were sitting in a clear festering container of nasty water. Best as I know, ice cream dippers are supposed to be kept in a proper dip well with circulating fresh water. Found the restroom to be clean, but the toilet paper was empty. I hope their plumbing coped with the paper towels okay. When I received my check and went to the cash stand to pay, I was prepared to give my observations when I was asked "how was everything" but no one ever asked. I doubt I'll be back.
