I hadn't been here since it's been the University Grille, so I decided to take my GF here for a Saturday night dinner - we made reservations for the dining room ~8pm, but it turned out that we were the only ones dining in - the patio & bar were hoppin' however! Service was good as we had the room to ourselves - like the SU themed decorations on the walls. We both ordered 8oz Sirloins & Sweet Potato Fries. Sirloin was good, but i think it actually may have been accidentally salted twice.... easily rectified by dumping a little water on it to wash the salt away (I'm easy to please;) - was perfect after that! Sweet Potato Fries were AWEsome! My wife had the sirloin steak and it was surprisingly super tender . My daughter had the fried ravioli and chicken . The fried ravioli were amazing ! Her boyfriend had the ahi tuna and blackened salmon, he said it was very good . I had a simple Cesar salad with a fried cutlet and it was good . We had a newer server named Emily and she was amazing ! We sat outside since it was so nice out . They even had a section for people to just sit and relax . read more

Since I'm a ShipU alumni, ugrille was always a go to for cheap drinks and good food. This past Saturday, we were in town helping my brother move out of his apartment, and it's sad because that'll probably be my last time coming here. The service here is always phenomenal! It's only gotten worse with new ownership. $42 for a ribeye that wasn't in the menu...that had no flavor. Apparently they were out of prime rib, and the waitress said the steak was available. Burger was terrible. Tasted like it was pulled from the freezer before it hit the flat top. Same with the fries. Kids pizza...yeah. I've seen better quality out of the frozen section. It's an unfortunate trend in Shippensburg. Restaurants start out great, but eventually become terrible. Within time, they close up. Or, they get bad reviews and do nothing to improve with the same end result. Maybe someday the new owners will actually care about this place enough to make it THE place to go in town. The bartenders were very nice and attentive. First time and got to taste a beer before buying. I do know that I got the fish tacos to share with my man. They came some really really good cole slaw, or at least that what my man said. I don't really do cole slaw, funny because I love cooked cabbage. We love sitting in the outdoor dining area. Even during the heatwave it was quite pleasant in the shade. My husband had the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich and raved about how delicious it was as he devoured the whole gigantic thing! I had the delicious huge Greek salad with grilled chicken and our guests had the toco special that they enjoyed. We also enjoyed their wide selection of wine and beer. We went there on Saturday March 2, 2024.We sat at a high top table, waitress took 15 min. Place order for appetizer(hot spicy shrimp). they delieved the food to our table, still no silware or plates, no water, there was nothing. we ask the food person for utensils, he said no problem. We waited about 7 minutes, when waitress came back to the table with the utensils we ask if we could place our order. No problem, my water glass was sitting there empty and my friend ice tea was empty also. We flagged down another waitress and she was delightfull to work with, after 1 hr our food arrived, short rib were ok and my parmesan chicken was chicken with a bland sauce. Again we had to flag down someone to get our bill, along with a few others couples. Always busy only because it takes forever for the food to be served. read more

60 minutes, no meals, walked out. We had reservations for 5:30 and were seated immediately. At 6:30, the waitress said our food still wasn't ready. We walked out and had to get hot dogs at Sheetz so we could make it to our show on time. The waitress was great and offered us salad or soup to-go, but we declined. Hoping for a good meal, then having to eat gas station food is very disappointing. Having to decide between waiting and risking being late to a concert or walking out of a restaurant is stressful. So, if you want to be stressed and disappointed, go there. read more

Fancy dinner in downtown Shippensburg, the University Grille is the hotel restaurant and so it's dark and warm. Higher end meals, which I'm fine with. I had the French Onion soup to start and it was topped with a thick layer of those fried onion string things. I've not had that before but it was easily lifted and set aside. The thick layer of cheese was melted, the soup was thick and it was hot. All good so far. Main course, chicken parmesan. A layer of angel hair tossed with marinara sauce and then topped with some chicken breast that was then topped with melted cheese. It was good. Large portion, tasty. Nicely plated. Some extra shredded cheese would have been better, but that's just me. read more

We arrived in town for college graduation. Knowing this place would be busy , we decided to eat here anyway. We arrived on time. Was seated immediately. Ordered appetizers and then our 6 meals. After 1 hour the waitress returns and says they are sold out of buffalo chicken dip. Ok. Just bring our food then. 3 meals arrive. 1 salad. 1 pasta. 1 crab cake dinner. The other 3 dinners did not come ,so the first 3 started eating. By the time the remaining 3 dinners arrived 30 minutes later,the first 3 were done and their plates were cleared from the table. One of the parties we were with, had to leave due to an appointment. She had to box up her uneaten meal and leave immediately. After 2-1/2 hours the food was just horrible. The haddock was over cooked and I couldn't finish it. The pasta was dry. The Greek salads were jtossed salads at best. Then they were nice enough to add the 20% tip on the bill for My Connivence. Let me tell you, if you were worried about my Connivence . You would have checked in on us before the one hour wait just to tell us you were out of food. You would have filled our drinks, even one time would have been great. You would have given us enough water to fill 6 glasses. But no. You put a fancy bottle of water on the table that is warm. There is only enough for 4 glasses and there is no ice. Great job by no one. Anyone thinking of going here , go some place else. There is a taco stand across the street that would have been a better choice. You knew before the night started that you could not handle the rush. You knew you did not have enough people working. You also knew you didn't have enough food in the kitchen. You did not have a single steak available. Your Restraunt is a disgrace to the community. We were told they were out of multiple items after being seated and already had our drinks. (Fries, certain Breads, Cole slaw, Shrimp, certain steaks, and the list went on...) we honestly should have left then but it was our Sons bday and that's where he wanted to go. It took 40 minutes for food and then came out cold. And we're told about more items that were not available after receiving our food. We asked for the manager. She was there and then suddenly left for the night, knowing we asked to talk to her! Our waitress said she offered 20% off our meal After our waitress had to call her. WTH! Dont bother going here unless you're going for drinks. My roommates and I went out for dinner and the waitresses told us if we wanted to order anymore drinks, we'd have to go to the bar because they were trying to move people over - which is fine. What made me mad is they literally took the plate out from under my roommate before she was even done with her sandwich. We felt extremely rushed. If you're going to treat a customer like that don't even bother seating them. read more

I took my mother here expecting to treat her to a fine dining experience, as used to be offered by the old Shippen Place restaurant that used to be in this building. Be advised that Shippen Place is long gone. Gone are the tablecloths and set places with crystal glasses, and quiet ambience. University Grille is (as the name suggests) a student hangout. Bare wood tables and boisterous atmosphere. The first table we were seated at was next to a large group of standing, yelling, partying students. We could not hear each other. We asked to be moved, and the second table was a little more quiet. We both had the fried oyster appetizer, and the house salad. Both were very good. The service was also good. read more

My wife and I came here for Valentine's Day, after I made reservations for 6PM. We got here at 6 and the hostess sat us down. As she was seating she told us our waiter would be 5 minutes as he was putting in orders. Ok that's fine. Fast forward 20 minutes and we have yet to see our waiter. I get up to ask the hostess how long it might be and she says she'll ask our waiter. I consider myself a patient man, so I said "that would be much appreciated". I sit back down and wait for another 10 minutes. At 6:30 an older couple sits down at the table to the right of us. Within 2 minutes of them sitting, the hostess brings out a basket of bread for them and say "sorry for the wait, here's some complementary bread". That ticked me off more than anything. I even locked eyes with this girl at least 5 times, so I know that she KNOWS we haven't been helped. Shortly after a waitress comes out and asks them what they would like. This establishment shows absolute disrespect and a complete disregard of me and my wife's time. I wish I could comment on the food but we left after waiting for 45 minutes to be waited upon. We ended up going to the taco place "Monterrey Tacos" across the street and had a fabulous meal with quick/kind service. We will not be coming back to University Grille. read more

Mothers day buffet. Overpriced for the food that was on the buffet. Before going we called to ask about mothers day menu ,was told same menu as everyday. When we arrived the buffet was the only choice which was fine but for the price it was just basic items on the buffet. They had a hard time keeping up with refilling the items. read more

Been here a few times and the food is good, the staff are accommodating and polite and it's very clean. Sometimes there can be a wait, but it's worth it for the area. Being relevant to the university, it can get crowded outside and by the bar, but never trashy or annoying like Aroogas. Good spot for a date night or with a nice group. read more

Middle of the road pub fare. Greek chutney served as a "complimentary starter." This makes no sense since the menu has no Greek influence aside from a rather bland, bastardized chicken gyro. Our party included a bride and groom. The bride was wearing an after-party white dress. Our waitress accidentally spilled an entire tray of food, covering the wall, floor, and bride's dress with food, ketchup, and ranch dressing. There's no faulting the waitress here; it was clearly an unfortunate and embarrassing accident and she recovered with grace and professionalism. However, we expected the manager to come out and check in with us and, perhaps, make an attempt at reconciling the accident with our friend who was doused with condiments. The staff was informed of this, by the way. No such thing occurred. Not a word. This was most disappointing and, frankly, aggravating to many at our table. While the staff demonstrated professional and attentive service, the management was MIA. Clearly the management needs better training in basic customer service. Perhaps take a lesson from the staff??
