Had the Catfish special which the Knob Hill Tavern is known for and it lived up to its reputation. Our server Cassidy (I hope got that right) was so sweet and courteous and made this quaint tavern on a rainy night live up to its name. Great staff working together was nice to see and Knob Hill is more than a tavern with separate dining area and an outside patio with patrons dining despite the rain but we went in to the bar area so I could watch the weather reports for my travels the next day on one of their TV's. Great cold fishbowl mugs available and my son even met an old classmate from high school and got caught up on their lives. He even got a peck (kiss) on the cheek from a lady at the next table who couldn't resist his "lure of the animal" and the red face gave us all a chuckle. Really Disappointing meal, After hearing about Knob Hill Tavern I have to admit I'm very upset about the quality of food and drinks for being a "Tavern". The menu is underwhelming and drinks are subpar... when I asked if they served cocktails I was told no and given a weird look. When I received my food it was the wrong order and then given the most unappetizing chicken wings (total of 5) for my meal. The atmosphere was great but could not make up for the most boring meal I've had in 2024. If you are looking for a quality drink and meal go elsewhere. read more

let's take it back to old school .. the restaurant is made from an old house the lower seating area seems to be the basement or what was a family room with a fireplace all done with wood paneling. The food selection is outstanding with a lot of seafood options they are known for the drinks in a fish bowl. With weather permitting they have outdoor seating available. Came here with friends, for a lunchtime meet-up before a round of golf. We sat on their outdoor patio, which was unfortunately overrun with flies. Their bourbon menu was extensive and impressive, but with 18 holes looming we did not partake. :-( I had heard good things about their fried chicken, so I decided to give that platter a go. It came with half a fried chicken, a dinner roll and two sides...I chose creamy cole slaw and potato salad. Their fried chicken was moist on the outside, a light crispy skin on the outside but had absolutely no flavor at all. It was quite disappointing. Both my sides, the creamy cole slaw and potato salads, were just average. Creamy, yes...flavorful, not so much. Cute tavern with a dining room and a bar area. I really enjoyed the fried fish. Super crispy and went well with the Tatar sauce. Corn sticks were a bit dry but the beer was probably the closest beer I've ever had. The goblet was frozen and turned part of the beer to slush! Yummm service was as great. Super friend place. When we arrived, we went inside and waited to be seated. Our first impression of the cleanliness of the stairs and carpet should have been our signal to leave. The waitress came and told us to sit anywhere so we decided to sit on the terrace which was actually very nice. We ordered an appetizer of fried mushrooms. Once they arrived, we knew they were not fresh but frozen and something you could pick up from your local Sam's Club. The taste confirmed that. Since they were so bad, we decided to try the onion rings. Bad idea. The breading was not good and they were overcooked. Our salad came out next which included chopped lettuce and tomato and green pepper bits. Not impressed. They could have left off the green peppers and included larger slices of tomato. The blue cheese dressing was the best part. I ordered mango habanero mahi mahi and a baked potato. It was pretty good and cooked perfectly and the potato was good too but it is hard to mess up a baked potato. In the end, we spent $75.00 on appetizers, salad and main entrees. My husband was reading the reviews as we waited for our bill. Google reviews said it had an average of 4.5 stars. Not sure what they ordered or what other restaurants they have been to, but in my opinion, this was not a good experience. read more

Neighborhood place for me, and I've been there several times now. For me the fish platter and the calzone were both excellent. My daughter almost always gets the tenderloin, which might be for her the best food item anywhere. Both of us think the hamburger is just okay, and the fries are delicious. The dining area is separated by a swinging bar door. Outside patio in good weather. Fried chicken and fiddlers are always consistently great. I wanted to love it but honestly it's meh at best. Just because it's local doesn't mean it's good. We went during Mardi Gras because there were some exciting things on an otherwise absolutely ordinary regular menu. unfortunately, it must have been an off night for the kitchen and wait staff as we watched nearly every order that came out to the tables before us come out wrong. Should have been red flag number one. By the time the service staff got to our table, it was pretty obvious they were absolutely over it. We tried to be overly friendly and understanding. It didn't seem to matter. By the end of the meal both servers just came off as unfriendly and almost bordering rude ( if I am entirely honest). Stopped by this Newburgh classic for lunch while visiting family in Evansville. The service is great, our server was prompt and the food arrived quickly as well. The cocktails are a TAD strong so I would err on the side of caution ordering those - however our server did bring us extra limes for our cocktails which I appreciated. The onion rings are really delicious and a decent amount for a medium sized group of 6 people Really enjoyed fried pickles and I'm not even a big fan of pickles! I ordered the calzone with a side of wedges which were really good. My only issue was that the calzone dough seemed to be overdone so I mostly just ate the filling but it was definitely satisfying! Glad I got to check out this place because I've heard a lot and it's one of those "gotta try at least once" kind of places. Came in on a late Saturday afternoon around 3pm. They had a Mardi Gras event going on so had a special menu along side the regular one. Spilt some oysters on half shell which weren't bad at all. I ordered the Crawfish Etouffee. Rice was really sweet for whatever reason. Taste was bland outside of that and the portion was small. Paid $19 before tip. Service was decent. Just an alright place from my first visit. I'm sure it's worth coming to drink beer though when we asked for the Zombie Dust which was advertised as on draft they said they had already rotated it out. I think I'd have to recommend Tin Fish more on this side of town if you are wanting some seafood. read more

We ordered the fried mushrooms as an appetizer and they were served cold and soggy. We told the server and she took them back and asked if we would like a replacement or them taken off of the bill. We elected for it to be removed from the bill as our food should be there shortly. When we received the bill after our meal, the server said that the manager wouldn't remove the mushrooms from the bill because we didn't like them. Tonight marked my second visit in a 6 mth. period. I know it is a beloved Newburgh tavern for many who visit regularly-but I won't be one of them! And here is why: During my 1st visit I ordered Fiddlers (Fried Catfish for those non-residents). They tasted slightly "off" and I should have sent them back. Later I was sick with food poisoning. My friend wanted to go this evening because they were featuring Cajun foods for Mardi Gras. She wanted Fried Oysters, but was told they only had raw. I wondered why the kitchen did shuck some and fry them! She decided on a sandwich with Fried Gator meat. The meat was tough and chewy. I ordered a New Orleans staple - Red Beans & Rice. For some reason they served a Fried Chicken Leg on the side. It was tasty. However there was far more rice than beans. In fact, it wasn't anything like what is served in Louisiana! Instead of thick soupy beans, they were individual beans on the dry side with rounds of dried out sausage. The piece of French Bread served on the side was stale. The best part of this meal was the fried Potatoes and 2 mixed drinks. It will take some convincing for me to return for anything other than a drink. read more
