Fortunately the bikers are pretty good communicators and use bells. The trails offer a combination of flat routes and switchbacks up hills. Something for everyone. The park is open , lacks trees, so best to hike here in the winter or early morning. We were fortunate in summertime to enjoy the trail under the clouds and mist! Also keep your eyes open to snakes. And stay in the trail as poisonous oak was present off the trail. At the trailhead there is a large parking lot. On Saturday the parking lot was filled by 1030, so best to come early if you want to secure a parking spot! Happy Trails!

Do a loop with a climb up to a mountain view and back through the canyon studded with oaks and a running stream or stay on the flat and enjoy the birds and wildflowers. I found a 4.4 miles Loop that was very enjoyable and moderate. You can walk your dog the first 1.6 miles and there are bells provided for the mountain bikers to alert slow traffic that they are approaching. There's a portable potty with handwashing station and plenty of parking. Great location for a Serenity break!!

The best part is the Drill and Play is with Coach Meredith. She's a truly excellent coach. It's a small session, limited to 12 players. You have to sign up through the AGAPE website. These Drill and Play sessions are set up so higher skilled players play one week, lower skilled players the next. The first hour every session is spent practicing a specific skill. Coach Meredith is a gifted teacher. She always breaks down the skill into bite sized chunks so it's easier to master. Like, for example, first practicing just the footwork itself, no ball or paddle. Then adding them on one at a time. After allowing adequate time to individually practice whatever skill is being taught, we play games the rest of the first hour without keeping score. Not worrying about the score gives one the opportunity to practice skills not yet fully mastered. The second hour is regular play. Coach Meredith circulates continuously, pumping everyone up with her positive energy and emphatic vocal encouragement, all the while providing further insight and/or instruction where necessary. The green space is so expansive that it's perfect for the summer concerts in the park! I love that the city and a handful of local sponsors, organize these events for us. Especially since Agoura Hills is ~35 miles away from the action in Inglewood. The free summer concerts are so convenient and entertaining! The variety of artists this year certainly covered the different age groups and made for a fun way to spend a few Sunday evenings...camped out on the lawn with our picnic baskets. Some days we even brought our dogs and opted for some treats from the food trucks. A huge thanks to the local sheriffs dept for patrolling the area and keeping the neighborhood safe! This park offers so much green space for the community to enjoy and it just makes my heart very happy!!

Shaded trail that follows the banks of a creek, tree tunnels, oak tree arches, stone staircases,…read morebedrock mortars, a memorial bench and even a porta potty. This trail has it all. The trail is divided into upper and lower sections. It is separated in the middle by Stunt Rd. If you hike the entire length it's approx 4 miles round trip. I recommend starting at the lower trailhead located across the street from Calabasas Peak Trail. Typing in Calabasas Peak trail into your search engine is the best way to find it. Starting from the lower trailhead will also save the downhill portion for the way back. You'll start by passing by a porta potty as you head downhill for a short distance. The lower section of the trail is distinctively more lush and better shaded as compared to the upper section. At the 0.5 mile mark you will come across a fork where you will need to make a left if you want to stay on the trail. You'll then continue past the property of UCLA Stunt Ranch. You'll cross over a private road and eventually you will reach Stunt Rd again where you will see the sign for the ranch. To continue on the upper section you will need to cross Stunt Rd, take a right, and head uphill a few hundred feet to locate the entrance that will take you back on the trail. Hike another mile until you again reach Stunt Rd and the end of the trail.

I only made it a third of the way through as my friend and I were getting totally miserable swatting insects away. Also, watch out for poison oak. So much poison oak and the path is overgrown in many areas. Definitely cover your arms and legs. I'd do this hike again when in autumn/winter.

A place with kinda weird vibes. This was one of Ronald Reagan's three ranches that he owned during…read morehis lifetime. The property is now part of Malibu Creek State Park. Best thing to do if you want to explore it is park at the lot near the intersection of Mulholland and Lake Vista Drives. The lot is at the end of a walking/biking trail that leads you to (?). If you walk about one-third of a mile on the trail, there is a historical marker that tells the history of the property. Ronald Reagan would own this land before he was elected Governor of California. I think it was right after his divorce with Jane Wyman that he purchased it. When he dated Nancy Davis, she was a frequent visitor here. The future prez would ride horses and do other things here in between work. It's kinda bizarre knowing that he once lived here. I'm not gonna lie - today, it's very sad looking. Surely there have been talks of restoring parts of the property but I'm sure there's reasons (like natural disasters) that's keeping the plans from going. But you gotta use your imagination on this one.

Welcome to Simi Valley's "secret" place…read more (Actually, it's not exactly a secret. If you frequent the river jogging path on the west side of town, you'll see it all the time. But stick with me.) First off, the entrance. Guarded by two trees more grand than those surrounding them, the dirt pathway into the park is easily missed because of how the entry is squeezed in between homes on either side. It almost feels like you've found a secret place when you finally do spot it. Admittedly, the playthings in the park aren't the best. There's a simple structure with a small swirly slide; a couple of concrete cylinders to climb on and crawl through; and a frontier wagon that looks as it has caught fire, leaving only a (climbable) gutted frame behind. Even the two swings in the park are starting to show wear and tear, with their metal crossbeam unsettling more and more on the wooden support posts that hold it up. Even the spinny-go-round has--Horror of Horrors!--broken down, snapped at the base, leaving a hunk of a metal platform wrapped in yellow caution tape to warn the kids to stay away. The broken-downness of it is what makes it a special place to me, though, especially when you contrast it with the rest of the park. There's dirty dirt under the playthings, but the patches of grass behind them is kept well-groomed and is lush with green. There's also the jagged plunge into the rock-lined river bed at the open edge of the park, shielded from view by trees which don't do it with quantity, but quality. But Frontier Park is my favorite because of its location. The park is set just before a bend in the river that sends the water towards the horizon, where the Summer Sun sets. This causes the sunlight to reflect off of the water in the riverbed, making for a very pretty early summer evening. There are probably better places to take in a sunset around town. There are certainly better parks to take your kids to. But for some reason, being here, in my "secret" place (that's not so secret), with everything coming together, makes it perfect.

So much history here with the old tv and movies that they used to film. At one point they had a watering hole set up to film underwater scenes and you can see the remnants of where they did it. The one main loop is very shaded which is nice, especially if you want to hike on a warmer day. They have beautiful rock formations with some caves. They also have park benches and picnic tables along the way to sit and rest and take in the beautiful scenery. I found a nice shaded picnic spot and had a surprise Mother's Day picnic with the trees and stream as a beautiful backdrop. My mom really enjoyed our day here. The only downfall is what it used to be. It's sad that a fire went through here and burned a lot of the set buildings they used to have . I wish I had seen it before that all happened. Too bad they didn't rebuild it.
