I was looking for a dog-friendly hike that's close enough for a day trip, Wildwood Regional Park I was the perfect find! We hiked out to Paradise Falls, and while the view from a distance had me thinking, "That's it?"... once you get closer, it's actually beautiful. The weather was in the 80s, with the cool breeze made the hike so much more enjoyable (especially on the steeper parts). My pup had the best time too! I would've loved to let him run free, but this isn't an off-leash park. What I really loved is that there are so many different trails. Whether you're in the mood for a quick walk, a jog, or a longer hike, you'll find a route that fits. There were lots of people out enjoying the scenery, and the nearby town has plenty of cute spots to grab a bite afterward. It was such a fun outing. I would totally do it again! read more

Great place for short hikes. They have a huge teepee for the kids and a waterfall. Some nice canyon trails to hike down into, and the views are great from lizard rock. Not super expansive, but a great way to get outside and kill a few hours. read more

FOR PARADISE FALLS HIKE: - I would rate this hike between easy and intermediate. - GO EARLY (like 7/8am). We went around 10am and the sun was not forgiving. Cloudy days or early is best. - Bring water & snacks! - Family friendly! Saw lots of kids! - Takes about 45 min to reach the falls depending on your speed. -Small uphill, mostly downhill going to the falls. Nearly all uphill coming back from the falls (intermediate part). I had to take a few water breaks coming back up. -Be sure to follow the signs to Paradise Falls. (Mesa Trail then North Tepee trail. You might also see Paradise Falls Trail). If you see the Teepee, you're going in the right direction. -Teepee is a great halfway mark with a shaded seating area to rest. Trash cans and water fountain is there. - The last downhill to the falls, the path is very narrow. But there are stairs with railings closer to the bottom. There's also a cute picnic table! read more

What a wonderful park nested within the community! At this lovely park there are many trails that you can take: there is even paper maps and electronic ones to help with your chosen route! One of the most popular trails is to paradise falls. A short little hike with a good portion of it being downhill to the falls! As you hike, you are nested among lush grounds riddle with prickly pears, poppies and more! Always a great hike when Cali gets ample amount of rain, but even in the summer you get still see some water trickling down. This trail does get super busy, so if you enjoy peace and quiet, best to go early! Get to the falls before 8 for some quiet time. Warning: don't swim in the water as not clean. As you leave the falls and go up the stairs you can turn off to the right to see the upper falls...very peaceful! The park does have a decent size parking lot but fills up. I don't know about you, but I can honestly say that I am very Proud and Humbled to live in such a beautiful part of Southern California. Thousand Oaks is located in Ventura County and the landscapes of wilderness are a thing of absolute beauty. I find myself so very fortunate to have Wildwood Regional Park as an extension to my backyard that leads to so many great hiking trails, magnificent views and a waterfall where so many people come to gather in absolute awe. What I like most about Wildwood Regional Park is the fact that there are many starting points to the hike that so many do not even know about. Most people head to the parking lot off of Avenida De Los Arboles (the main starting point) and hit the trails from there, but there are other entrances to the Park that will take you a slightly different route with all of the same viewing attractions along the way. Like most hiking trails, there are many splits in the trail that will give you an option of 'if you go this way you will end up here' but 'if you go that way you will end up there'. My philosophy, Do em' all. Today, I decided to hit the trail about 2:30 in the afternoon and it was the perfect day to be on a hike. From the flat grounded part of the trail where you are surrounded by wildflowers and cactus to the rolling hills where you are passing those on mountain bikes and others on foot making there way to the Teepee on top of the hill or to Paradise Falls waterfall, this hike is completely surrounded by nature's wonderful beauty. For those that live in or near Ventura County and haven't been to Wildwood Regional Park, I say what are you waiting for? This hike is Novice at best, maybe with a few hints of intermediate sprinkled in depending on your age, health, & personal hiking experience, but its a wonderful way to put down that phone, turn off that T.V. and get outdoors and experience nature at its finest. If anything, it's a way to reflect, shut down and reboot your inner spirit and do something outside that is good for your overall fitness, as well as your frame of mind, body & soul. CLOSURE: The park is open but Paradise Falls has been shut down indefinitely as of 5/29. I got lucky and got to check it out on 5/27. There were tons of people and many were diving and swimming (despite signs urging them not to). Apparently, people were also leaving loads of trash and using it as a toilet, prompting authorities to shut it down. Another reviewer mentioned this although I'm not sure why this warrants a 1-star review. You're not reviewing humanity :-) Great park with an excellent trail system. I didn't learn this until later but apparently it was home to the Chumash people about 8,000 years ago. Additionally, they filmed various western movies here. TRAILS: Very well-marked and easy to follow. I completed the loop (about 4 miles) that hits Lizard Rock and then Paradise Falls. There are multiple trails that converge so there are various ways to see these sights (the AllTrails app helps). The loop (which is really Mesa Trail to Wildwood Canyon Trail to Teepee Trail) is a great trail that starts off a bit rocky/exposed and later turns into a lovely woodland paradise. Paradise Falls was beautiful but ruined by humans (see above). PARKING: There's a parking lot but availability is limited, particularly during busy times. I had to do a few loops before I found a spot. There were signs for an overflow lot down the road but it would require a bit of a walk. There were also signs urging hikers not to park on the residential streets. BATHROOMS: At the trailhead and at the picnic area near Paradise Falls. TIPS: -Sunblock. You're pretty exposed on most of the trails. -Ample water. -If you want to simplify your parking endeavor, try not to come here during peak times (so aim for morning or later in the afternoon). -The trails were really well-marked but there are multiple ways to reach your destination as well as a few "side quests" so the AllTrails app really helped me follow my chosen trail. read more

Love this park! So many trail options, each offering something a little different when it comes to mileage and views. Basically have 2 options when visiting: (1) drop by mid-afternoon to avoid the crowds (12n-4pm), there are barely any people even at Paradise Falls and ample parking BUT you'll have to suffer through the heat as it is super hot with limited to zero shade at all (2) come in at around 5-6pm gorgeous sunset and it starts to cool off and get windy BUT people start to arrive in big groups. I went at around 3pm and there were only 3 other couples we passed by along the way to Paradise Falls, Lizard Rock and Bluff Creek Trail. We managed to power thru several trails and even catch the sunset at the end , just when big groups of families started to arrive. read more

First off, read the Wikipedia article before going. We went hiking while on vacation and had no idea how historical this park is. Inhabitants dating over 8,000 years ago to numerous Hollywood films and tv shows. Nearly 1,800 acres provide a picturesque setting and over 27 miles of hiking for every level of difficulty. Our family went on the 3 mile trail to Paradise Falls. It was challenging for the children under 7, but well worth it. There were at least two stops with water fountains and the large wooden teepee is on this trail. The falls is truly spectacular given how dry and semi-arid the climate is. read more

We bought our home a yr ago literally 1/4 of a mile up the street from Wildwood Park- Hiking, Horse, Biking Area. I haven't ever heard about this place BC we were new to the area.. Omg.. it's VERY Popular- we finally took a short hike and found out why it's so popular- It's Beautiful- Miles & Miles of trails. You'll see people with kids & dogs, on Horseback, and having lunch even. It's so popular we found a gentleman that literally drives 45 mins sometimes + to get here to walk the lands. It's an original site for filming a couple of old TV shows, the Rifleman & Gun-smoke are a couple- that's the story we all heard- but it definitely looks like it was the perfect place for just that kind of thing. The parking lot is on the smaller side so if your looking to come on Weekends or a Holiday- either get here Early or plan to walk a little ways- they don't look too fondly at visitors parking on the residential streets for the park entrance- There are a few school's & park-parking lots close by to use during your time there. Yelp 100 Challenge 38 This is the best time of year to visit Wildwood Park. The hills are alive with beautiful yellow mustard flowers and the waterfall is flowing from all the recent rains. Usually we hike on weekdays, this time though we chose a weekend with the grandkids and although it was crowded, the only challenge was the parking lot. Both the upper and lower parking areas were full and cars were spilling onto the neighborhood streets. Saw many dogs on leash which was a welcomed sight! Wanna die? 2.5 hours of hiking? You have a choice! It's quite beautiful. The good thing, a semi-close beginner to low-intermediate gets you to water falls called Paradise Falls. It great for kids and young families. Bathroom, water fountain, and teepee with shade to rest under is part of it. Clear signs and clean place makes this spot a good place for the whole family. On the other hand.... Not having a map, or water, or a fricken clue, I took the long ass way. 2.5 hours of craziness passes you by Lizard Rock, some kind of refinery, narrow paths, streams, and dust. I nearly died. Probably rated an Intermediate hike, but a combo of distance and lack of water nearly did me in. Better is that you can take your mountain bike. Just went hiking here and checked out Paradise Falls. It's beautiful! I'm shocked there is still so much water in the creek/river and hills flowing through there in October, after a hot summer. Saw one juvie whiptail and fence, and side blotch lizards. A few points of contention though...there is a terrible lack of information about the trails, at the park. Usually there's a big kiosk with maps and trail information at the entrance from the parking lot at most hiking areas in the state/national parks system. This was not that. Also, there was signage, that was accurate in pointing to which trails were in what direction, however, they didn't include the distance to said destination. There was nothing available to tell you that you could go down the Paradise Falls trail for instance, and loop around on another trail (I forget the name of the other trail(s)), or whether you had to go back the same way you came. That said, it was very steep in areas going down. The fire roads and trails are well defined. One of the best parts of this jaunt was discovering such a clean wilderness area. I didn't see garbage, graffiti, a bunch of stuff carved up, nobody bathing in the creek, etc. I very much appreciate the job park staff and the public have done in keeping this place so nice. Another added perk thanks to park staff is the very thoughtful, and safe, sturdy crossings they created across any body of water as well as over really muddy, mucky areas. So of course, what goes down must come back up, so it was pretty steep in certain areas to come back up. There is almost no shade unless you're all the way at the canyon bottom next to the water, so be mindful of being in full sun on hot days or bringing your dog along. read more

This trail is perfect if you want something easy with a nice view. Beautiful mountain views and a waterfall, with a good amount of water even in Oct when it is pretty dry. This trail has become popular during the pandemic, so be mindful of the time you go. I arrived at 930a & the parking lot was full. If you wait around you will get a spot but definitely a popular trail. Very clean and even has a port-a-potty. There are many of small trails around the main one so explore a little bit (if you want to get away from the crowd). Also has tables and area to eat if you want to bring food. My girlfriend lives arou d the corner so we start our hike from her house. Wildwood has Scenic hiking trails that offer several hiking options and difficulty levels. My favorite trail is the one to Paradise Falls. The Paradise falls trail leads to the water fall. The water here is a lifesaver for my dog. She also loves to swim. The waterfall and pond are beautiful and relaxing. Nice picnic spot. Lizard rock is a running hiking challenge, my friend likes this trail backwards. Many switch backs here and step. Box Canyon trail offers some shade near the end. Moonridge trail has beautiful views of the canyons. Popular with many running groups. Crowded on the weekends. Most the trails are short 3 to 4 mile loops plenty of parking in the Park lot or in the near by neighborhoods. read more

Great place for a long walk/mild hike, trail run and/or mountain biking. Multiple signs to point you in the right direction. If you're up for a long walk/hike, pick the right trail and it'll take you to the beach. Lots of sunshine so if you're prone to sunburns, make sure you're prepared. I wish I lived closer as I'd walk it daily. The view is quite amazing and it's not a very difficult or long climb up to get it!....Also, since I am typically off weekdays and my friends are often working, I do a lot of hikes alone. There's always people around (yet not overly crowded) and wide/open trails for the most part so I don't feel unsafe. read more

Gorgeous park that is such a surprising find in the midst of a suburban area. Volcanic outcroppings, meadows, and--when I went this last weekend--acres of wildflowers. Because of its beauty and ease of access, it does get crowded on weekends. There are also two types of people I haven't really encountered in other regional parks (and I've visited quite a few): 1) The uber-privileged women who apparently hike there frequently complained that the trails were crumbly and slide-y and the flowers were too tall next to the trails and kept brushing up against them. Why don't the park managers do something about all this...nature? Yikes. 2) Speaking of nature, the worst group was the people who blasted whatever music they wanted to listen to without headphones. Because, after all, everyone else wants to hear your shit taste in music, right? I guess the sounds of birds and their own thoughts are too terrifying for these assholes. Nothing anyone in authority can do about these jerk-offs, but they did detract from the pleasure of the visit. So I would recommend going early in the morning during the week. read more

Plenty of parking and parking is free. Also plenty of street parking. Nice wide open spaces. The trail starts off wide. Many were strolling strollers. Dog friendly as well. This park offers a variety of trails to hike. Most of which the whole family can do. Just a warning, these trails offer almost no shade so do wear sun protectant and gear. The weekends are very crowded, so be prepared. It seemed as though Paradise Falls was the most popular, but for our family that was our least favorite due to the stinky, dirty water. It's a great combo of flat terrain and accessibility down to Paradise Falls as well as some steep terrains up to different areas of the park. I love trailing next the running water and exploring all the wild succulents growing as well as wildflowers and tons of wild sage! What a wonderful way to spend the day! :) So Pumpkie picked out this great place for a day of hiking... but right now as I am sitting at my computer... I am bushed! I know I am going to be sore tomorrow... but it was so worth it. I think we spent about 2-3 hours hiking... as at this park, there are many many trails. It seems like you can do a short trail or combine several for a much more interesting day. At one point, the trails are very wide (none of the trails here are that narrow... so you can definitely see a snake if one were around... although we didn't see any... just a bunch of little lizard friends!) We even saw a couple people with dogs and a baby stroller... so some of the trails are very easily accessible. Anyway, this place is absolutely amazing! :) It's picturesque and quiet if you really get down into the depths of the trails and it's beautiful and romantic. It's also pretty shaded for a great majority of the time... and since it's Thousand Oaks... it really wasn't bad for the middle of the summer! We were well equipped with drinks and a couple chocolate granola bars... There are rivers, babbling brooks, tons of hills, trees, wildlife, a giant teepee, caves and the waterfall! The waterfall is sooooo awesome! The teepee is quite a steep climb.. most of the time, the trails aren't too rough... but the incline up to this.. made me tired... although, it was worth it for the amazing view and breeze. The Indian Cave was awesome. I wish I would have taken a picture inside. It's small.. but kind of sandy inside... and smooth rocky... if that makes sense. There is so much to see and do... and to take in at this place... I would highly recommend it! It was an all around amazing way to spend the day! read more

Here's another nice urban hiking trail that offers some wonderful interactions with plants and wildlife without traveling too far from civilization. The main trail is wide and well-maintained. There are several types of trails available here. A straight shot will take you over gentle hills to "Lizard Rock". It's a small peak that looks like--what else--a lizard on a rock. Another trek will take you down to a hidden pool that is fed by a beautiful waterfall. The geology of the area is interesting, with a spectacular display of volcanic rock jutting from a canyon wall and littering the ground. Yet another trail will take the hearty hiker up into the heights of the ridge that overlooks the park. Once again, Merry the Wonder Beagle caught the scent of a coyote and dragged me along after it. We saw its bushy tail pop into the brush just as we rounded a curve in the trail. Cool. She loves to track critters more than anything in the whole world. You can reach the trailhead easily from the 101 Freeway. Exit at Lynn Road and continue straight up until you reach Avenida de los Arboles. Turn left and you'll see the parking lot on your left. read more

Who would have thought one could find an expansive hiking area (complete with waterfall) right in the midst of the sprawling suburban metropolis that is Thousand Oaks? Wildwood is one of my favorite local hiking spots and for good reason: It offers a veritable smorgasbord of interesting trails, with a wide range of difficulties and terrain. You can do anything here from an easy/flat 1mi loop to a 10mi rigorous calorie burning trial-by-fire. Rivers, duck ponds, caves, waterfalls, meadows, canyons, rocky peaks, and even colorful sewage pipes. You name it; Wildwood pretty much has it all. The main trail head is easy to find: Just exit the 23 at Avenida de los Arboles and follow it west until it dead ends at Big Sky Dr. The unpaved parking lot will be on your left and there's generally plenty of spots available. There are actually two trail heads at the parking lot: Most people take the trail at the large main entrance with the billboard and signposts (the Mesa Trail), but there is actually a smaller entrance on the opposite side of the lot as well. I'm a road-less-traveled kind of guy, so I almost always take that trail (I think its called Moonridge Trail). But since both trails ultimately connect to the same matrix of paths, it really doesn't matter which one you decide to journey from. There are so many trails here it can be difficult to choose your poison. If you're looking for an short climb to a peak with beautiful vistas, take the Mesa Trail and then turn right at the sign marked "Santa Rosa Trail". Round trip this should be about 2mi, and you can easily do it in under an hour. If you want something more intense and can spare ~3 hours, this 8.5mi loop that my GF and I often do (I've attached some pics with a terrain map) should kick your behind at least a little: Take the Moonridge Trail to the Indian Cave (take the narrow unmarked path on your left off Moonridge to get to the cave) then follow that down past the bridge to where a bunch of paths meet right below the oversized teepee. There is a marked path that lets you cross the river and connect to the Lynnmere Trail. Stay on Lynnmere and it will take you up the mountain ridge behind the waterfall that you will follow for a few miles. Turn right at the four way trail intersection and follow that path down to the water treatment plant. You'll have to climb along some fences to get down to the plant, but its worth it. Follow the rocky road just outside of the plant and you'll end up at the pond, which is actually quite beautiful, complete with ducks, swans, and wildflowers. Cross the river again at the duck pond (you'll have to hop-skip across some rocks if you don't want to get wet) and make a short hike up the hill then take the first trail to your right. This flat path will take you through a meadow, eventually following the river to the main bridge. Cross the bridge and the road, then head up a steep switch back trail that will bust your ass quite adequately, but give you some nice vistas along the way as compensation. From here you can venture down into Box Canyon or all the way up to Lizard Peak (if you are craving some real punishment). From there you can connect back to the Mesa Trail via any number of routes. You can also head back down to the other side of the plant and check out the waterfall if you want to extend the trail a bit (which is what we usually do). Note that there is another trail head at the bridge you can get to via Hill Canyon Road from Santa Rosa road. There are also more trails in the hills to the west of the bridge. I've tried a few of them and they are worth the hassle, but not quite as scenic as the stuff around the main entrance. If you just want to come and picnic, there are benches down by the waterfall, which is about 3mi round trip from the main lot. There's also more benches and a camping spot a bit further down from the waterfall, along with some restrooms. Note that you may come across horses, mountain bikes, as well as runners during your trek; Please be sure to yield to them as they have the right of way here. And while you'll come across the occasional legend-in-his-own-mind alpha male meathead who imagines he's in the Iron Man triathlon, most people are very friendly here and will greet you with a smile. In summary: If you live in or around TO, you're really doing yourself a disservice if you don't visit Wildwood at least a few times a year. Its an awesome place to detox from suburbia and clear your head. Highly recommended. read more

Ok this is a (2) prong review... Wildflower Playfields is a wonderful park with soccer fields, softball / baseball diamonds and a small sandbox with swings. I am familiar and have been to the park over the years for my kids cub soccer matches and practices... Wildwood Regional Park is the adjoining hiking trails. It is magnificent with great trails, vistas and beautiful scenery including water and great views along the way... The combination of the hiking trails and sports park are truly a great option and amazing resource in the Conejo Valley that we have at our disposal... It's a great way to spend a weekend day out and about enjoying all that one of the Conejo Valleys most beautiful parks has to offer. read more

So I tried it out on a Saturday morning I arrived at 9ish .There was Plenty of free parking YAY.i started at the Arroyo Conejo what a beautiful & clean place .. I think this trail is good for all levels of hikers . This is definitely one of my favorite spots to hike at. If I'm not in the mood to drive to Santa Monica/PCH I'll come here instead. I used to hike here all the time, but during the summer when it gets super hot a lot of snakes come out. All you hear is a lot of hissing which can be scary. One of the reasons this spot is one of my favorites is because of Paradise Falls. It's really super pretty at that first stop. There's a couple of benches so you can have a picnic. After a couple visits recently, I figured out a trail that lasts just a little over 4 miles and has awesome views. And the best thing is you don't see too many people in that area. I've noticed a lot of people are there lately. The last 3 times this last month that I went, the parking lot was full. I recommend starting off by going to the left as soon as you enter. That leads to the teepee. Then follow the trail going down and that leads to Paradise Falls. After that you're free to explore the area. There are a couple areas where you can camp. I love the small area where the bathroom is. read more

Once you enter the park through the main lot at Avenida de los Arboles, you are greeted by breath taking views of the main trail on open land that leads you to the many other trails in the park. The trails range from easy to advance with inclines you hike at your own pace. My favorite trail would have to be Paradise Falls which leads you down to a beautiful waterfall and stream. Paradise Falls is serene and a great location for photos as well! There is also a picnic bench in shaded by trees one level up from the waterfall perfect for a picnic! On your way to the falls you pass a giant Teepee - good for a little hike break and shade. From the main lot to the falls and back is about a good 3 mile hike. read more

My family and I came here this past weekend around 7:45 am on Saturday. When we parked, we were surprised to see at how many cars were in the lot. But we noticed a table set up towards the back and red balloons, so we assumed there was some sort of event going on. This is a dog friendly park, so we brought our love pup along, who had a lot of fun and was definitely worn out once we got in the car. There are also trash cans spread out throughout the park, which is nice for a change. There are some fairly easy trails but also trails for those who want more of a challenge. We walked to Paradise Falls and walked along the mountain side to a picnic table area. Our whole hike took about an hour and 45 minutes, but I'm guessing it would've taken a little less if it was just my hubs and I. WRP has definitely become more popular over the years..I can't wait to return! read more

This place is easily accessible to the masses at large, and offers great access to a number of hiking trails and adventures! The main draw is Paradise Falls, which is a stinky waterfall on an ~3 mile loop trail. It's pretty, but it is literally stinky (and you can't swim in it...not that you'd want to once you catch a whiff). The surroundings are very scenic, and you can climb up the neighboring hills or traverse the canyon floor, depending on which trail you take. It's all dog friendly, so bring your little furry friend (on a leash)! There are a couple of small caves placed along some of the trails that you can clamber through (not large enough to be dark caves, so do not fear). There are also plenty of picnic tables along the trails, including one area that is covered with a teepee inspired gazebo. Bring a lunch in your bag! So much cactus, so much wildlife, so much beautiful landscape. This park is worth a visit! read more
