I swear to god this has got to be one of the best New England styled seafood restaurants I've been to. Went on a Tuesday night visiting the brother and came in at around 8pm. Restaurant wasn't packed - we were the only table there other than Norm and his family there. We got two lobster rolls (with chips or fries), two tacos, a Narragansett beer, and fried oysters. We were royally stuffed at 83 bucks which is a decent price considering the quality of food we got. AMBIANCE: Its a small shop, its very low key, but the staff (Norm and his family) were incredibly accommodating and friendly! We definitely had a really good conversation (albeit brief) tonight. PROS: Highlights definitely were the lobster roll and the tacos! The lobster roll is immaculate! It was SO juicy, the bread bun it was in was toasted to a perfect buttery crisp, and the lobster was incredibly fresh! The cilantro and zestiness from the lemons broke down the butteriness of the bun and lobster which made a great balance. Not too salty, not too peppery. Hands down one of the best lobster rolls I've ever had. And for 23 dollars (its market priced) I think we scored an incredible deal factoring the size (its BIG), the amount of sides, and the freshness of the roll. Fish tacos were incredible as well! For ten dollars you get two tacos with a side of chips. The fish was very fresh, and the mango salsa on top made it an interesting and fresh texture. Also check out their fries - I am not a huge carb fan but having their fries - light, airy, crispy literally blew my mind away. CONS: Oysters were decent, but I wasn't too big of a fan of how cheesy it was. For the tacos and oysters I recommend the chefs adding a touch of heat to it as I think that would definitely elevate a lot of the flavors in it. MISC: Check out their plate of hot sauces. Norm's wife recommended the Turks and Caicos Ghost Pepper Sauce. If you want smoke coming out of your ears from hot sauce greatness, that's gotta be your go to. OVERALL: YES! Terrible customer service- we were waiting for good half hour to get anything- including water. No one came to the table during the meal or towards the end to even clean the plates. The food is mediocre and not worth the price we paid. $38 plus $4 fee for French fries makes a lobster roll $42. Probably the most expensive lobster roll I've ever had- including in the nicer establishments. Clam chowder was sub warm and fried oyster were tasteless. Restaurant Feel: The ambiance was good, the restaurant had a very costal feel with kitschy décor. The octopus salt and pepper holder was very unique and a nice detail. Food: The Lobster Roll was very good, the lobster was well cooked and well seasoned and a good portion size with a bag of chips as a side. The market price at the time was 38 but still seemed on the expensive side for the region. Service: The service was good however there were a few things that could be improved upon. The servers couldn't decide whether or not to dim or turn the lights on, it was confusing and a little disconcerting. Really love this cute spot which is conveniently located next to mr frostys. We've had the lobster roll, lobster & chicken bowl, Pork belly roll and the fries which were all great! I would give this a 5 star but both times we went service was super slow, one time they forgot one of our friend's dishes and the other had a slight mixup. Came here again on Mother's Day and was not disappointed. This time started with the NE Clam Cowder and hubby the lobster bisque and both were delicious. Clams still tender, and I liked the smal.bits of bacon for texture but thought it took away from the chowder a bit. I'm not sure what the hype is or why all the positive reviews. Our usual spot was closed on a cold Saturday so we decided to give this place a try. We left feeling very underwhelmed. Originally we went in for lobster rolls, but at a whopping $35 price tag "their market price for the day" we said no way. That's the highest priced lobster roll I've ever heard anywhere. Instead we had a buffalo chicken sandwich (which was very salty) and a shrimp salad sandwich, which was tiny and served with plain 'wonder style' bread slice. Both came with a bag of chips. If you're going to charge $17 for a chicken salad sandwich, why not make your own side? Also comes with a tiny spoonful serving of cold slaw. At $17, it's way overpriced. Ordered a bowl of clam chowder to share, and that took about 15mins to come out. That was actually pretty good, but not enough to give this place another try. We left still hungry and had to dine elsewhere. For better quality food, experience and price, we will stick to Ripkas. read more

Sunday June 25- at 2:10pm 2023 Service from the host and waitress is awful. I was really really hyped about trying this place for the first time and was disappointed with the greeting and customer service my family and I were given. No hello, no eye contact, or smile, I said "hello do you have a table available for my grandmother and gf? It's our first time here ". Place wasn't super busy and a few tables were open. The host with a lost and lazy look on her face then handed me 2 wrinkled menus- With no direction on where to sit. When I said hello to the other server to see if she would direct us - she just looked at me like she ignored me. She didn't even say hello back. After standing there confused for 5 min of not being taken care of , I turned around and gave the menus back to them and we left. They were so rude. Price is not an issue for me if the service is at least welcoming and friendly. I will not go back. I will also not recommend this place to friends and family which I'm sure the owner would like to discuss on what transpired. It's your establishment. Please check your employees. Our second trip here was every bit as good as our first. Only difference was crowd size since it was a weekday & lucky for us since we were with family visiting from Hawaii. The food is innovative, fresh and remarkably tasty. Price point seems high but given the quality and the wonderfully friendly service it is certainly worth it albeit a splurge for special occasions, which this happened to be. A fun,friendly, casual place. Yes, the price of the lobster roll has gone up but it is meaty. Check the price before you order. This is inflation and it sucks for everyone- restaurants included. The fries were flavorful. My complaint is that the fish tacos were long breaded fish sticks on taco shells with some herbs and canned pineapple garnish ( different from my previous experience). * Lobster Roll Heaven * I hit the jackpot when I came across Knot Norm's. It is located near Veterans Park in Norwalk - right next to Mr Frosty's. It's small and cozy with a nautical theme. The staff is super friendly. They have about 8 different rolls: Copps Island Oyster, Fried Chicken, Steak & Cheese, Brisket, Crab Salad, Pork Belly, BLT and Lobster. Roll prices range from $8.85 to $23.00. They also serve Roasted Oysters, Steamed Clams, Fish Tacos, Wings and Daily Specials. The Lobster Roll was full of hot buttery mostly knuckle meat with large claw meat on top. I think there was a thin smear of aioli on the bun. It was everything I want in a Lobster Roll. Simply Delicious. It came with homemade potato chips, coleslaw and sliced pickles. I liked it so much that I went twice during my 4 day stay in Norwalk. When I like the place I would definitely go back. So that's what happened. At the first visit we got oysters (raw and baked), lobster rolls (2 and then got an extra one because they were amazing). Everything was great, like really good. Check came out $140 ( also got 2 glasses of wine) So the next day we came for lunch and had Apple/Beet salad( nice portion and very refreshing when it's hot outside), chicken roll and fish tacos - were very disappointed. This two dishes had absolutely no taste, so flat.... This time check was only $38. I'm glad we went there twice and can compare. Couple of things I loved about this place: 1) The decor - very well done. Roomy but not packed with chairs and seats. Loved the nautical and artistic aesthetic. The Bathroom was extremely clean and really nice as well (yes, that makes a huge impression on me). 2) The owner/manager helped me. He was kind, prompt and calm even though the place was really busy. I didn't feel rushed, there were no excuses such as "we're getting slammed" or anything like that. Everyone did their job professionally and was kind and courteous. Remember, I'm just getting takeout! So the service was outstanding as I'm usually handed a bag or box at most other restaurants for takeout. 3) The Food - I had a lobster roll and steak sandwich. Key in both is the bread they use (which was excellent). Lobster roll was properly seasoned with fresh lobster and a liberal amount of butter. It was very, very good. The steak sandwich was also excellent. It was a little bit spicy however that just added to the flavor. Definitely would order either of them again. The only thing I might change would be the fries. My kids (they're in their 20's) like them, I like a different kind of fry. Regardless, the main event/entre was spot on. If you like Lobster rolls, this place is definitely a go. 4) The location - the restaurant itself is awesome and it is easy to get to. With that being said, my only criticism of this place is the nightmarish Norwalk parking situation. There are 4 other food establishments plus homes within the same block. The parking is tough. That's not the problem or fault of Knot Norm's. However they may want to come up with creative alternatives or suggestions for parking for their patrons. 5) Craft Beers - the beers. I did not have one as I was driving, however I saw nobody unhappy with the beers. I do like the kind of Ale served and everything about it looked great. I'm going back and I'm ordering a beer next time. Knot Norm's is a solid place to catch a couple of beers and a great sandwich or roll. And I do mean great. The ambiance is really cool (love the mechanical crab). This is not a five star steak place in NYC, it is a cool bar/restaurant in Norwalk, CT. I wanted to like this place so desperately but we went on a Wednesday which is apparently the day they get shipments, and they were out of pretty much everything, including their famed lobster roll. I had stopped in at Knot Norms in 2019 and told my wife it was the best lobster roll I had ever had. During covid we tried to go but the lines were long and we never could remember to order ahead . So we finally went back tonight and it is still the best lobster roll I have had. My wife agrees. The roll is not drenched with butter but lightly toasted brushed with butter with a light brush of aioli on the inside of the roll. Every bite was delicious. I also had hoped to try their New England clam chowder but they were out so I had the lobster bisque instead. It was very good. Not the first or second time we have had dicey customer service and a lack of overall caring/acknowledgement about a long wait, forgetting items, or general good service 101. Destination lunch for us today. Went specifically for the lobster rolls. I knew the price ahead of time and hoped the amount of lobster would not disappoint. Knot Norm's Catering Company, a casual seafood shack on a quiet street in East Norwalk, Connecticut is my newfound spot for lobster rolls this summer. In business since July 2017, this place is already getting busy, especially on weekends. Lobster rolls are currently at $23, which is at the higher end of the price range, but you do get an above average lobster roll. Sandwiched between the 2 slices of toasted bread are chunks of fresh succulent tasty lobster meat dressed with clarified butter, mayo and a hint of celery. They are served with crunchy sweet coleslaw and pickles as well as a side of Cape Cod potato chips. A pity these lobster rolls don't come with French fries. Get them anyway as an additional side to share. These fries are lightly fried with a crispy finish but still soft on the inside. The in-house dip, a tangy combo of mayo, ground white pepper and seasoning is the perfect accompaniment and when eaten together, they are dangerously addictive! Do not miss their raw oysters from nearby Copps Island. They are medium sized, fresh and briny with a clean aftertaste. For many, part of the charm of this place is taking a leisurely stroll after your meal along the water with a scoop of ice cream in hand. Ice cream outlets are just next door. Lobster bisque was too thick and needed a little something - salt, hot sauce, both? The lobster was well cooked and a decent portion Fish taco was like a fish stick - just ok Lobster roll was overly salted but was cooked well and on delicious bread The Copps Island roll was the winner. I have lived in Connecticut my whole life and just found this place. What a gem!! We each got lobster rolls and agreed they were the best we have ever had. I am not a fan of mayonnaise but this one had close to none which was amazing and the lobster meat tasted so fresh. We also got the salad, oysters, shishito peppers, and fried chicken, all amazing. The service did take a lot longer than expected but good thing the food was so good and we had time. Other than tricky parking, the location is right by the water and such a vibe. No lobster roll should cost $38. We read the great reviews and turned up with pretty high expectations. The place was pretty empty for a Thursday during summer break - maybe 4 people inside and the same outside. We ordered 2 beers, a side of fries, a lobster roll, a steak roll and 6 oysters. The oysters were fine, as were the fries and beers. The steak sandwich was flavorless and a bit dry. Bad at any sandwich place, but when you're charging $15 it's unforgivable. Like an idiot, I assumed the lobster roll, marked as 'MP' would be the same price point. It wasn't. It was the price of a main course at a pretty high end restaurant. Man, I literally thought this place opened this summer but it actually opened up last year and just all of a sudden became crazy popular, and i have to say it deserves it. When it comes to solid seafood in the area you can go all the way to Westport and pay double what you would pay here at The Whelk or triple at Saltaire in Port Chester, or you could just come to this underrated, breezy Norwalk gem and stuff yourself with lobster rolls, shrimp cocktail, and fish tacos at a reasonable price. As for the food, I would honestly go in that order. The lobster rolls were absolutely amazing, with the shrimp cocktail and fish tacos a close second. Honestly, when I was here almost everyone was ordering the fried chicken wrap so I am guessing that is good too.
