Valentina the server was beyond phenomenal. The best part of the experience here. I ordered the fisherman's platter. The clams were strips and the scallops were bay. I thought they would be some bellies and sea scallops instead. It was all fresh and cooked well but I was a bit underwhelmed at the type of meat I received. The fries were unsalted but at every table, is a salt shaker and ketchup. The children had a hot lobster roll. Even for 11 year old tummies they thought the roll was small, but delicious. The cold lobster salad roll was excellent also. A very welcoming and friendly place with I would say average food but mega star quality service. There is a pub area, indoor and outdoor dining. The thing about battered and fried food in a to-go box is that the moisture that accumulates makes for a soggy coating that slips off the scallops. The fries were OK and portion size was ample. I doubt that the deck hasn't been power washed in five years and the plastic table outdoor tables are sagging. The Fried Seafood Platter wasn't worth it at $30 and now it's $42. All of the menu items are priced beyond reason. The fish and chips for $28 was your typical frozen fish with the water still in it and soggy when it's served. Not sure what their strategy is, but I'm thinking the end game may be in play maximizing prices and not delivering anything of value. Definitely not worth it. What a shame. read more

We stopped by Sono Seaport Seafood to cool down after a ferry/tour out to Sheffield Island (the parking lot for the ferry is just next to Sono). We sat inside at the bar because we were trying to cool down and stay out of the sun after a little too much sun and heat on the island and the ferry ride back. We got some cold drinks (including some frozen ones) and some ceviche (and maybe something else - shrimp cocktail? - I honestly can't remember). The service at the bar was very good (friendly, chatty, fun), and the food and drinks were much better than I was expecting given that Sono doesn't have the best Yelp reviews. My only real complaint is that the bar kind of smelled? You don't notice it after a few minutes, but I definitely noticed it when we walked in, and it's very off-putting. Looking back, I wouldn't typically think it's a good idea to eat in the place that has that kind of a funky smell, but I was starving for a snack after sweating away on the island. The building could definitely use some renovation to make sure whatever was causing the smell is gone. Other than that, it was a pretty good visit. If we'd sat outside, I think we would have had a great experience. read more

The food is decent and consistent but one thing during this trip that was incredibly difficult to stomach was the service. There was a woman waiting on our larger party that couldn't have been more rude. From the initial hello to giving the check, she was absolutely miserable. It was on her face, in her tone and at every table. These are the types of individuals that do not belong in a service environment where smiling is a minimum. Sono Seaport was a family favorite going back years. We checked it out this past weekend and were very disappointed. Food is very expensive and service is disinterested. Grilled tuna, a fish of the day, was $32. Steamers and mussels were $20 each for small portions. Waitress never brought over extra napkins- a must when eating shellfish with your fingers. She never asked if we wanted a second drink. To add insult to injury, when it was time to pay, she held up a device which recommended tips at 20% and up and she stood there while I decided. What happened to the days when tips were thanks for great service and the amount was left up to the customer? Neither the view, quality of the seafood , or the service is worth the trip to Sono. read more

Just got home from a wonderful lunch at Sono Seaport Seafood. Food and service were impeccable. Although it was too hot to eat outside, the view of the water from our inside table was great. My husband had fried calamari and it was perfectly cooked. Crispy but not overdone. I had the lobster dinner. Lobster was also perfectly cooked and the corn on the cob and potato were nice sides. This place has awesome food!!! My auntie and cousin rave about this place and their lobster rolls so they brought us here. They were right, the lobster rolls are amazing! The view is really cool overlooking the river. We tried to sit outside but it got too chilly so we moved inside. We all ordered the hot lobster rolls that were served with warm butter. I didn't know if I would like it but holy cow it was really tasty and just the right portion size. It came with potato chips and a side of cole slaw. We also each got a cup of lobster bisque or clam chowder. I tasted a bite of the bisque and was impressed, sort of wished I ordered it. The clam chowder was really good, came out fast and hot, with a little bag of oyster crackers. We had a really good server and she checked on us often. I was afraid that, after finding out that they'd hired a professional to redo the place it would have lost it's charm and become yuppified, but there's no reason to worry. The inside has been repainted with grey and white, decorated with large boat pictures, but we sat outside on a picnic table, watching the comorants dive bombing, along with an elegant egret just doing his 'look at me, aren't I georgeous' thing across the water. The (tacky) lighthouse was still there, looking like it was ready to be the bar it was in the past. The menu has been updated and they've added some fancy (and strong if you have the blood orange marguarita) cocktails, but we came for the whole belly fried clams. Some restaurants put a few bellies on top of a pile of strips, but our bellies went all the way down. The serving sizes were large enough for me to take home leftovers (not hubs, though), and they provided a nice crunch. Tiny serving cups of ketchup and tarter sauce were just a tad smaller than a cup of cole slaw. The fries and onion rings were crisp and well-seasoned, so no complaints there. Service was prompt and appropriate, and they used this machine that has you stick your card in and it pre-calculates a tip (it was set for 25%, but then, I'm a softie overtipper unless spurned or disrespected and it can be edited) . Unfortunately it appears that their seafood store has closed, but I'm sure the restaurant also does takeout. Overall a very nice way to spend some time. read more

Traveled almost 3,000 from Northern California. The first night in Stamford my wife and I went to SONO and ate outside on the deck. I had an iced cold coors light with my fried full-belly clams, then another with my 1/4 lb hot lobster roll with butter, and then fought with my bride over one of the best Key Lime Pies I've ever tasted. Hr wait but was excited to see what the hype was about. We were sat outside on the deck, very nice view, boats pulling in, nice breeze. Waitress warned us about a long wait, wasn't long at all. We ordered shrimp cocktail, can't mess that up. Ceviche came next.. wow. I wish I had more chips to dip! Amazing. Crab cakes next, delicious and a nice portion but the dip that came with had a cheesy flavor instead of tangy. For my meal I had the red snapper with corn and a baked potato. Went for Dinner Food - 3/5. Clam chowder had a rich seafood flavor with a creamy finish. Oysters were clean and tasted mild but it was disappointing to see that the only sauce offered for them was a store bought tasting cocktail sauce. Lobster had good bite to them with the sauce having a hint of sweetness. Sadly the bun was barely toasted and sogged up quickly. It lacked the nice crunch that adds the much needed crisp texture to a lobster roll. Coleslaw was a bit heavy on the mayo and the chips were fine. Service - 4/5. Quick and attentive. Value - 2/5. It is on the expensive side especially for their portion sizes. The roll felt lackluster in the amount of lobster, especially for one that is $21+. So the flagship items are good like the big stuffed clams. Always crispy and always hot. Portions have gotten smaller like the muscles... delicious but smaller. Lobster pot pie is a fan favorite. Now the critique... a "quarter" lobster roll was out of sight price wise. We should have asked but they should have told. The service was less than acceptable and I'm trying to be kind. This is an area in need of a complete makeover. Summer is busy. You need to be prepared not that everything seems to be in panic mode. Every Sunday during the summer we go out in our boat and stop at different restaurants on the water. This Sunday we went to Sono Seaport. Plenty of boat docking for the restaurant, which is great. They even have dockside pick up. The tables were spread out and outside. Service was great and quick. The food isn't great, which is what made the stars go down. I tried this place out because their website claims they were awarded "The Best Lobster Roll in Connecticut".... I assumed that meant they would have really great seafood but really, I highly recommend you avoid this place. The lobster roll was rubbery and flavorless. I ordered a shrimp scampi, and at the price of $26, you would expect either decent shrimp and/or pasta. I was given a plate of soggy noodles drenched in butter with 6 or 7 pieces of grocery store shrimp. Both were clearly left out in prep for quite some time. After 3 bites I fed the rest of the shrimp to the seagulls and went to another restaurant a block away. Don't make my mistake. Don't waste $100 on a subpar dinner for two, that could've been better at literally any other restaurant on the street. I will add, the waitresses were kind, and customer service is the only thing I won't complain about. read more

This place is amazing!!! It is super casual and right on the water. The waitress was so nice and so funny. We started with a combo of raw oysters, raw clams, and shrimp cocktail. Everything was fresh and so tasty. I had an oyster po boy for my main course and it was outstanding. The oysters were lightly fried and the sandwich was huge. I'll be honest, I didn't have high hopes going into this meal. I'm a CT native and I remember when this place used to be halfway decent. I'd had heard that they remodeled so I came back to check it out. For food I had two lobster rolls and half a dozen little neck steamers. I swear I almost threw my steamers in the sound when they came back with top neck clams. There is a significant difference between top neck and little neck in terms of texture, flavor, and overall size. So instead of what would have been properly steamed littleneck I received undercooked top neck. My lobster roll was good but my date's was too chewy and she couldn't finish it. Considering the price I'd expect it to be better. The worlds largest shellfish distributor catches fresh lobster, crab, oysters, clams, and more on a daily basis and it's literally across the river, so I can't comprehend how cost that high are justified. My drinks were also poor. We each had one cocktail. My dates was a tad bit sour, but mine was strait tequila! We had to swap just because I had to drive home! And there was a big pool of grenadine puddling at the bottom of my drink. For what I believe was $18, is it really too much to ask for someone to shake my drink? My server was nice, respectful, clean, and dressed well. I couldn't ask for more in terms of service. I would mention that it seemed to be over staffed for the crowd, a couple of times a different waiter looked to be lost as he looked around for something to do. I don't understand the ambiance of the place. From the outside it looks like the same old seafood joint with a big fish on the wall and crab trap buoys as decorations that I remember. But as soon as you walk in, the vibe goes from casual restaurant to stuffy high end indoor dining. But most people don't come to a waterfront restaurant to sit inside anyways. So for the life of me, I can't understand why it is that when I went outside it was even darker and stuffier than inside! The brightest lights in the whole place came from the outdoor bar nobody was sitting at! Meanwhile me and everyone else eating around me are being swarmed by bugs. Candles, tiki torches, bug lights under the outdoor patio, all of these are solutions to the problem. Not doing anything is not a solution. Overall I personally don't want to come back, however, I absolutely want to see this restaurant succeed. It's an important part of our cities history and it'd be a disgrace to see it fail. So we are from Long Island we took our boat over. While arriving at the place nobody gave us guidance on where to dock. After floating around for about 10 minutes we were directed to a spot we could stay for dinner. You cannot make reservations to here so we went up to the desk after docking and they told us 50minutes. OK no problem I guess. An hour and a half later we where seated. A family of 8 had to sit at two tables? Again no problem I understand this is corona times were living in. Nothing makes a whole Lotta sense. Now this is where it gets weird for some reason we got two separate waiters and servers. While ordering we asked repeatedly that we'd like all our food to come out at the same time. Not only was this not honored but all the food came at all different time with almost a 30 minute gap in between. As far as the food goes I got the lobster roll it's claim to be the best lobster roll in Connecticut. I would beg to differ I feel like one claw in my lobster roll was bad mushy and bad taste. I would've love to complain but I was the only one sitting there with food while other people were sitting there for a half hour with nothing.
