Absolutely loved my Compo lobster roll and my boyfriend love his buttery traditional lobster roll. I couldn't get over the size! They are priced very fairly. The old bay fries, cole slaw and the side salad with a tangy vinegar dressy was fresh and crisp. The drink options were plentiful- a Pinot Grigio for me and a boylans root beer for him. Amazing lobster rolls. The lobster was cooked perfectly. It was buttery, tender and they gave a good portion. It was also priced well. I had a lobster roll twice the price for less than half the quality I got here, the night before. The lobster rolls are well worth the wait ( there was a slightly long wait even though I was the only customer in the shop). It was so good though, I went back for another the following day. Lobster Shack is part of a larger restaurant in Westport (Rizzutos). Don't be put off when you drive up and see a larger restaurant with a large (and really cool) outdoor presence. Why five stars for a Lobster roll? Two reasons: 1) The food - my lobster roll was exceptional. It was made with a very fresh roll. The melted butter was also very high quality (salted). And the lobster was not frozen or what they had lying around. It was absolutely fresh and top quality. So the quality for the roll was 10 out of 10 easily. The fries were crisp (and they did fall over in the bag they gave me) and were a very positive add-on to the meal. The roll was absolutely worth $30 plus. Anyone that thinks a roll like this should be less money isn't paying attention to the time of year and the cost of the raw materials, which were 100% fresh and very well prepared (I had a Connecticut type of roll which is served warm). 2) The lady that took my order was wonderful. She had a substantial amount of body art (tats). Why wonderful? Well, she was kind and extremely nice for a customer that was ordering just take-out. And one really important thing: she was extremely thorough and made sure my order was exactly what I wanted (both during the ordering process and delivery to me). That level of professionalism in a carry out order tells me that I am 100% going back to Rizzutos for dinner as well as Lobster Shack. She did a fantastic job. Oh yes, every staffer that came in from Rizzutos also said hello to me and acknowledges my presence. Again, this goes miles for service and I know I appreciated it. My boyfriend's brother said that I couldn't miss out on the best lobster roll in Westport, and he was right. We ordered this for takeout the other night. I ordered the hot lobster roll, and I loved it. The drawn butter on the side was a nice touch. The bun also melted in my mouth as soon as I took a bite. My only complaint about the roll is the portion. For an East Coast lobster roll I was expecting more lobster meat. I was in the mood for a lobster roll and I decided to try this place. I ordered two of the hot butter rolls without looking at the price. The girl who was very nice said that will be $57 and change. She then asked me if I wanted fries or coleslaw. I said I did but didn't think I could afford them. She asked if I wanted a receipt and I said no I didn't want to be reminded of the price. Anyway, I took the rolls home expecting to find that they were not worth it but I was mistaken! The rolls were excellent, the lobster was perfectly cooked and there was a generous portion. First and foremost, I'd like to say if it weren't for a coworker and friend of mine, I wouldn't have known about this place. I live in Queens, NY and happen to be working in Westport, CT for a while now. Let's call my coworker....um.....Joe "The Godfather" Mason. According to The Godfather, it was the best he has ever had. He set the bar extremely high, but I had no idea what to expect. I called my order in, and patiently waited for the lobster roll. They brought out my roll and I sat down to inspect. Just with the looks alone, it was beautiful. A little piece of heaven with warm lobster stuffed on top of some lettuce and a perfectly toasted lightly buttered brioche bun. They give a small side of Cole slaw and some extra warm butter, honestly the lobster roll doesn't need it, but come on!!! Who doesn't put extra butter on when you get it. The Lobster Shack definitely did not skip out on the lobster. HUGE pieces of lobster meat, fresh and warm. Best part of the entire thing, it is fresh lobster, fresh, REAL lobster. It wasn't fishy at all, and after finishing the lobster roll, it wasn't overly filling. You felt satisfied with the portion given without the fishy taste in your mouth. At $24 per roll, it is definitely worth it and a must get when in Westport. I am working in Westport for a few more weeks, the lobster shack will see me again without a doubt. Ordered : Maine cold lobster roll and a warm CT Lobster roll. I really wanted these rolls to be great at $18.00 per roll ; however, rather disappointed. Lobster meat to bun ratio way off. While the bun was toasted , it was cut much to thick to the proportion of lobster meat which was included. Making for a very skimpy lobster meat filling and chewing on a doughy roll. I could not differentiate between the warm roll with butter and the Maine cold lobster with mayo?? Lobster meat some how had zero taste ; was just very bland. Service needs improvement as well - ordered and waited 15 minutes for the waitstaff to realize that the kitchen had sent our order out and it sat on the counter for nearly ten minutes before we were given the bag. He is very much interested in keeping a high level of customer service, and graciously invited us to give his restaurant a second chance. I don't know what these low ratings are about. We just had an amazing take out meal. Lobster rolls were warm, the buns were grilled and buttery, and the Boston lettuce was the perfect simple accompaniment. Cole slaw that came with was fantastic too. I'm not sure why there are mixed reviews, but I just went there and had hands down the best lobster roll I've had in this area! So much meat, they didn't skimp at all.
