It is what it is. Good basic but not always open when they say they are. No worries though.

This one is sitting right on the lax lake. Every campsite will have some sort of view of the lake with some trees but it is not heavily wooded. You can see your neighbor but you're not packed in their like some campsites without any trees. Each campsite had plenty of space with a picnic table and a fire pit. I was a little disappointed in the one car rule because there was so much space to fit two cars and two tents at one campsite. It seems more of a family oriented campground that would be great for kids. We don't have any, so the kids got a little annoying for us. Especially when they are playing and yelling outside at seven in the morning. The bathrooms and quarter operated showers are well kept, clean and aren't far from any of the tent sites. The office is adorable and has a decent selection of snacks and camping things, like fire firewood, if you forget anything. You can also rent kayaks and pontoons for the lake. I felt that the tent sites were a little on the higher side for a campground but understandably so being on a lake with full bathroom, showers and laundry.

We highly recommend a stay at Surfside! We've stayed in both A and B units and recommend both…read moretypes. The views of Lake Superior are exactly what you come to the North Shore for, and with their expansive waterfront you are able to really take in the views & experience staying on the lake - no matter which building or unit you're in. The common spaces offer a large pool (deepest end is 4'), a large hot tub, sauna, gym, laundry, and sometimes group fitness that varied on the weekly schedule (COVID safe). When you check-in be sure to visit with guest services regarding the events they have scheduled for the week & what you can take in for free. They'll also be able to assist with bike rentals, etc. Be sure to let them know what you're interested in because they're more than willing to help. Also, don't skip the free s'mores packs for the nightly campfires! Guest services hours are very accommodating. The A unit we stayed in on our recent trip was impeccably clean, and even though it was a "pet friendly" unit you wouldn't be the wiser. The cleaning staff does a great job. The linens were all good quality - including great quality towels! The views are outstanding from both the first and second floors, and the unit furnishings allow for comfortable lounging to take it all in. We did some cooking while at Surfside and the kitchen was fully outfitted with all standard cooking utensils, pots, pans, dish ware, and drink ware. They provide dish soap, kitchen towels, and dishwasher tabs so cleanup is a breeze. The beds were super comfortable, too! The whole unit is quite spacious and would be comfortable with 6 adults, and if you combined it with a B unit you could be comfortable with 8 adults. The living spaces are outfit with great, comfortable furniture, but in the colder months I recommend bringing a throw blanket or two so it can be even more cozy! We really love Surfside and their attention to the guest experience. It's a quaint, peaceful resort stay that offers some nice perks: nightly bonfires that were never crowded, a playground for kiddos, an ice skating rink in the winter months, and so much more. We'll certainly be back!

They do have activities such as biking, hiking, kayaking which are included. Not a ton of dining options and not a lot of groceries in the area so you may want to bring your groceries with you, but all your pans, plates, and utensils are included. The view can't be beat. No beach nor real access to the water but if you are in the area I would not hesitate to stay here. We had six very comfortable in a three bedroom. Great space to hang out in. Grille and firepits also available.

We stayed in a pet friendly Lake Home Guest Room, and the room itself was nice. It had a queen bed, a twin bed, a small refrigerator, a microwave, and a big bathroom. One thing to note is that the entrance to the neighboring guest room is right next to your door. We were lucky the first night and had no neighbors, but the second night we did and my dog barked at every footstep she heard. Next time, out of respect for our neighbors (and to give our dog more space) we'd probably opt for a pet friendly cabin instead. One nice thing about the guestroom is that you do have a view of the lake. Unfortunately, the restaurant was just okay. We ordered takeout for both dinner and breakfast, and while it was fine, nothing really stood out. I was really looking forward to using the pool, hot tub, and sauna. Sadly, the pool was closed during our stay. The hot tub was open, but I couldn't figure out how to keep the bubbles on, which was a bit of a letdown. The lodge does seem to offer great amenities like bonfire pits and s'mores, which we were excited about. Unfortunately, they weren't out while we were there. I know these are weather dependent, but the weather didn't seem that bad while we were there. The staff were incredible, everyone from the front desk to the restaurant were nice and accommodating to any request we needed.

They contacted me on June 21st demanding a nonrefundable 50% deposit, breaking the booking agreement and Hotels.com's cancelation policy that was guaranteed with my booking. At my refusal of giving them the 50% deposit, months after the original booking, and informed them that I was splitting the cost of the room with everyone who was going and at this moment couldn't afford a $470.42 deposit. She immediately canceled my room and then posted it back online at triple the rate that they were going to originally charge. This hotel is a scam now, they got new owners a few weeks ago and are now trying to do everything they can to nickel and dime their customer. If you were loyal I would find another hotel to be loyal to.

The 'Motel' part of the name is a little more accurate, in terms of furnishings. For what it is though, Superior Ridge does a good job. They run a clean, relatively inexpensive operation here. The beds were a little too hard for my liking and the TV was tiny in a nostalgic way. Microwaves are available in the hallway. This is a kind of 'bare bones place to sleep, not somewhere you want to really hang out' kind of place. Personally, when I'm paying for a hotel I don't mind splurging a little bit more for a place that's a little plushier. I was surprised at first that they didn't have air-conditioning (though there were both electric baseboard heat and a gas fireplace), but it seems that's pretty standard practice for north shore hotels - at least the two we stayed in on this trip. This won't be a repeat-stay for me, since it's not really what I'm looking for when paying for a place to sleep, but if you're just looking for a place to crash and want to save a couple bucks, this is for you.

They offered to bring us beer, wine & fishing supplies out on the water, so we wouldn't have to come back to the dock! Top notch service all the way around! Great place until you make a mistake…read more Clean cabin, lovely office manager, beautiful view.... I had my small dog with me for a two night stay. I picked up a few poops outside, all the ones that I saw/ knew about in addition to leaving a clean cabin, a tip, and busing my trash and recycling. Well, apparently I left some dog poops too. I received a phone call a half hour after I left stating I was not welcome to return by a very emphatic man. He said there were poops "all over", which given that I picked up two I find hard to believe, as the dog is 11 pounds and we had a two night stay. Had I been charged to my credit card for the pick up, perhaps even told I couldn't bring a dog again I would have understood. A call saying that I was not welcome to return? Way over the top in my opinion. Way over. Yes, I screwed up but this was a really harsh way to treat an otherwise good customer. The man also stated inaccurately that hardly anyone on the shore accepts dogs. Not true, over half of cascade vacation rentals homes do. Furthermore, if THIS is how they treat a guest who makes a mistake, they should not allow dogs and they should take a long hard look At their attitude. What happens here if you break a coffee pot? Wow. Update: In a response to me on this matter, I was accused of "having my dog off leash in violation of policy". I have NEVER had my dog off leash outside of his own yard, and who would in the open in Northern MN? Insane that the response to this was this accusation. Dog or not, please avoid! It won't be pretty if anything goes amiss during your stay, obviously.
