Darrell is a nice guy but full of excuses. He was contracted to make a pantry. He was way out of his league. He should have communicated his inexperience but instead spent a month making doors putting them up and taking down doors but was not successful. He left without completing project. We had to spend so much time trying to fix his messes. Now we have to contract a real cabinet maker to make his doors work. A waste of $1500! To make things worse were his excuses for not showing up when we had arranged what family drama-son, son in law, wife, wife's uncle.... I could say more but i hope you get the picture. read more

I had a ceiling fan that the light would not turn off at one of my rental properties. My regular handyman had moved out of state so I was scrambling to find somebody to go over and take a look. Darryl came by one evening after work to take a look at my fan and troubleshoot. Instead of just replacing fan, he figured out what was wrong and came back and made repair in a timely manner. Made an appointment for 5 pm Monday evening. No one showed up. Had to call + email to see if we were still on. It got to be 5:52 before I got the call asking for my address, meaning I was going to have to wait 20 more minutes on top of that. I cancelled the appointment; I got tired of waiting around. Owner told me 'good luck finding anyone else' - I found that rude and unprofessional. I do not recommend them. read more

Very quick response to initial request for estimate. Came by and looked at my two projects on March 10, 2022. Very personable and seemed eager to work. Discussed possible project scenarios, gave me his card, and said he would send me the estimate. He didn't. The following week I emailed him, thanking him for his time and saying I look forward to receiving the estimate. He responded via text a few days later, apologized, indicating he had gotten very busy, but he would email me the estimate soon. Today is March 22, and I still have not received it. I hired somebody else today. UPDATE: It is 4/10 and still have not received an estimate and texts/emails have gone unanswered. read more

Darrel and his brother, Dan (sorry if I got your name wrong again, Darrel's brother) are absolute gold. In today's day and age, it is damn near impossible to find someone who will do the job correctly the first time. Knotty's does a complete and thorough job, better than you would do it yourself, even if you could. Why? Because Darrel is one of those few craftsmen left who takes personal pride in his work. Each job is a statement about his character. I was remodeling my house -- moving walls, windows, new floors, the whole shebang. I had to clean up after everybody, had to recall the electrician three times, endless cleaning up of everyone else's messes after I paid them to do the work! Knotty's was the ONLY exception. My rustic solid wood front door was fading and cracking due to exposure to the elements over 12 years. Darrel removed the door and completely restored it. It looks better than new. When he and his brother reinstalled the door, they also restored the framework, and again, everything looks better than new. I also had Darrel install tension hinges on several doors. He had to do a little carving into the frame. Everything fits precisely, perfectly vertical, like it was manufactured that way. He was not satisfied until the tension was adjusted just right and now the doors close every so gently. And he cleaned up so it looks like he was never even there.  If you're looking for a carpenter, a handy man, someone to restore your woodwork, stop looking.
