I'm not even a surfer, my girlfriend is. But I had to write up a review for Koa. Why? Great rates, see below. Probably the oldest board shop around here too. They've been in business for 18 years. The owner is super chill and here to serve. For multi/day rentals to give you a locker to keep the board here...instead of in your hotel room. The hours are 10-6, but you have access to your locker 24/7. Rates: Bodyboard and Fins - $10 per day Longboard and Shortboards - half day $20, 1 day (overnight) $25, 2 or 3 days $50 Open 7 days a week.

    Koa's number to rent a board. ‍

We've been going to Koa for more than five years and we love their board selection, that it's a ma and pa place, and that they will help and accommodate you in every way. Koa has really struggled since Covid, so their system is currently by appointment only which makes it easy and specialized. You can also select a board on their Instagram page and they have plenty available. You can also easily switch boards and store your board there, which is great for dawn patrol or sunset sessions. The most important part of this review is to give Koa some love and aloha because they deserve it and deserve your support.

What an awesome place. I looked everywhere for bodyboarding fins and came across this local place. Better than the so called surf shops on Kalakaua. Got a pair of used fins..awesome for $30. Maki also helped me out with reef friendly sunblock and reef socks

Great store but requires an appointment so the hours are not real. Middle of the day and the store is closed, the folks require a call ahead

I was put in an odd spot. Surely not in my comfort zone…read more You see, a friend from Japan came to Hawaii and when asked what he wanted to do, surfing came up. As a local boy born and raised in Oahu, I'm embarrassed by the fact that I cannot swim. Surfing clearly out of the picture. I used to work in the Japanese tour agency many blue moons ago where I recall a surfing school that offers surfing lessons. My friend already knows how to surf so I didn't think this was for him so I asked one of my physical therapists who surfs regularly. He introduced me to a surfing school that's at Ala Moana Beach where I was given their website, which is also available in Japanese. I forwarded the information to my friend prior to his arrival to Honolulu where he didn't jump at it and said he'd think about it. On his arrival I drove him to his hotel on Kalakaua Ave and upon check in we saw a rack of surfboards nearby where I asked if they were rentals. The staff advised the boards belong to the in-house guests who were keeping them as storage while not in use. When asked about rentals, the front desk staff advised us to inquire with Moku Hawaii (MH) as their rates are 1/2 to what the businesses are asking for across the street on the beach. MH has been in business since 1985 where they hail from Japan. They started off as a clothing company but transitioned over to a surf shop offering surf lesson and rental business. We walked over and soon found MH, which is on the 1F at the corner of Koa Ave and Uluniu Ave. We were greeted by a friendly, young female staff who welcomed us and answered our multiple questions. With its locality, reasonable rates and customer service, my friend liked MH and decided to look no further. While checking out their inventory, my friend noticed hard boards and was hoping for soft boards. The staff guided us to those soft boards where it's available in either long or short. You will need to complete their rental form which to our surprise is quite flexible. For example, you can initially request for a 2 hr package but in the event you go overcast, you just pay the difference of $5, which is the price difference between 2 hr course and the next course of up to 4 hrs. MH gives back to the community as they sponsor multiple local keiki surf contests. That's so awesome. So, if you should be in a bind where someone asks you for a surf school in Waikiki, look no further and guide them to MH. We were surprisingly impressed with their surf shop and their amazing customer service. They open from 6am and close at 8pm

Both times were busy with at least ten of us packed in the small store. I saw mostly Japanese tourists during the first time there and mistakenly assumed this store primarily appealed to the Japanese clientele, but the second time I'd visited had Haole and local customers besides Japanese, which proved me wrong. Snoopy is universal, for sure. I did notice that an employee who spoke fluent Japanese was present during both times I had visited. I visited the store twice because there were too many customers blocking my view of the area of the store that had their tees during the first time that I had went and I just couldn't take a good look at the assortment on my limited time there. I took a couple photos of all of their tees and later looked at them on my phone to decide which one to look for during my second visit. Besides short sleeve tees, they mostly had tote bags. Other than those items, the remainder consisted of one style of slippers, minimal selection of long sleeve tops, and then some accessories such as keychains, stickers, magnets, pens, pancake mix and some stuffed Snoopy's. It's not going to be a wide assortment beyond that. I've been to the Snoopy store in Yokohama, Japan, a few months back and although I admit that comparing the two stores is like night and day in terms of size and selection, and not at all a fair comparison - however, primarily because I happened to go there first, I was ultimately underwhelmed at this store as it was significantly tiny, cramped and not too many items to choose from. Had I not gone to the Snoopy store in Japan, first, then I'm sure this Snoopy's Surf Shop in HI would have elicited more excitement. The only other Snoopy store besides this that I'd been to for stores located in the U.S. is the Snoopy's Galleria & Gift Shop in Santa Rosa, CA, next to the Charles M. Schulz Museum, back in 2016 (definitely worth checking out if you are a lover of Snoopy and Peanuts). It'd be awesome if the Campbell Ave location could move to a bigger location nearby in Honolulu, eventually, and carry more items - though I can understand that at the same time, maybe they just want to keep things small and limited. I haven't been to their Hale'iwa location on Kam Hwy, but from photos, the location there appears a bit more spacious than the Campbell Ave one. The employees during both times that I had stopped by were nice and helpful and answered the questions that I had. I purchased a couple of tees during my two times there. They were about $29-$35 each, so not on the cheap end, but I can see and feel that they are good quality, in terms of the cotton used. I originally purchased my first tee from their online store, earlier this year and wear it quite often and that one washes well. Their online selection of tees is completely different than what you can find in their retail stores and even more limited of a selection - they definitely have a much better selection at their retail stores. Although this store doesn't have a large assortment of items, I was still happy to go out of my way to check the place out and I'd 100% recommend it to any Snoopy and Peanuts fans out there during your time in HI.

This one is located near Waikiki and has some unique designs for this area of Oahu. However, the only reason I am giving them four stars is because after visiting the one in Haleiwa, there's a huge difference in size, service and designs. Since this one is closer to the largest tourist area I really thought it would be bigger and have even more amazing designs, however it was so small and with the amount of people shopping at the store it was a little hard to shop around. I had already seen many of the items they had in store at the other location so I didn't spend too much time there. It's definitely worth checking out if you love Snoopy!
