Sean and Mike were super dope to me when I came in to get my fin fixed. There was an issue with the fin box, no biggie, they remedied my situation right away and they were just so cool about it. I bought my longboard from BP a few years back and I've surfed my ass off with it. So, it's pretty dinged up from the tourist beginners launching into me, and probably a few of my wipeouts =) Anyway, they kinda chuckled at my glass repair and really bad spray paint as graphics hahaha. I did, however, NOT cover any of the Blue Planet branding because they were cool to me when I bought it, and the few times I came in for a leash or whatever. So, the skeleton stays front and center with no damage or bullshit spray paint near it. And this time I came in right after a long dawn patrol session as I was in pretty dire straits from not knowing about the small tab under the fin (it somehow got loose, probably from someone bumping the fin hardcore), but Sean and Mike took care of me and I was on my way. The customer service is on point at Blue Planet! I've been riding an inflatable for about a year now and was ready to upgrade to a "real board" so I could start catching some waves instead of just cruising. After doing a little bit of online research, last Sunday I drove up to Haleiwa (b/c the Kona St shop is closed on Sundays) to take a look at what they might have in stock for a heavier girl like me. J Tyler showed me the boards they have and pulled out the Wave Guru model to take a closer look. He explained the design of it and how the particular shape of the rails was built for surfing but that it could still be a fun cruising board. It was truly educational and I never felt like I was being sold a product. He also mentioned that for my size and ability this was the only board he had in stock but that the sister shop in town probably had more of a selection for me. So yesterday I went to the town shop first thing. I didn't catch the sales guy's name, but he was just as informative and friendly as J Tyler (maybe even more so). He showed me a few different models including the Tuf-Tech series. I told him that I had been looking at it online but was a bit concerned about outgrowing the Tuf-Tech Polynesian Voyager too fast and was concerned that the Wave Guru might be a bit too challenging (there is a difference of 16 liters between the 2). He assured me that if I was still just learning to SUP surf the Tuf-Tech would probably be the right board for me because it was one I could really learn to get into waves on, shift weight around, and still have the least drag, making it versatile for days I just wanted to cruise. And because the board was so durable, I didn't have to be over-cautious with it. I really appreciated that he seemed to genuinely want to find me the right board for my needs, size, and ability and not just up-sell. I wanted it in teal, but it didn't look like there were any of that color in stock. Lucky for me, after he checked they back area they had one in teal that had been all packaged up ready to be shipped out, but the person who had originally ordered it had cancelled. As my wife said, this board was meant to be mine. SOLD! He showed me how to install the fins and then they helped us load the board on the car and strap it down. He also suggested I take a look at some of the video tutorials for beginner SUP surfing they have posted on their website. I definitely will! We went straight to Ala Moana to take her out for a maiden voyage and she did not disappoint! I just cruised so far, but wow! What a difference from an inflatable! She's so much steadier and it's much much easier to move around on her. I'm ecstatic about my purchase and can't wait to take her to play in some waves next weekend! read more

There's a reason SUP HQ is in the name. It's true. Having rented SUPs last weekend for the first time, the hubby and I discovered our next hobby. We started doing research, asking around, and searching online for the best place to get our SUP gear. Having watched some of Blue Planet's instructional videos - highly informative - we were impressed with the knowledge of the staff. I finally understood what all the numbers on the side of the boards meant and why they mattered. (Check them out on YouTube - it's worth it!) He was friendly, listened to what we were looking for, and matched us with the boards that would best meet our needs. I appreciated the honest feedback about the boards and what would we could expect in performance based on our choices. I chose the 9'2 Sweet Spot - I'm a 5'3" fitness buff weighing 130lbs. My hubby chose 11'0 Wave Guru - he's a 5'6" beefcake weighing 195lbs. The wonderful thing about buying at Blue Planet is that buying a board includes everything you need to be set up (paddles, SUP bags, rail tape, paddle guards, leashes.) The price point is higher than you'll pay at a consignment shop or for an iSUP, but you're getting a great quality board with an eye-catching design. My friend was visiting from California and needed help with shipping her 73 inch paddle to San Carlos. She didn't even buy her paddle from Blue Planet and they went out of their way to help her! They GAVE her a long cardboard box, lots of bubble wrap and excellent service! She was so happy because she went through a lot with the airlines who want to charge her $100 for shipping when she only paid $100 for the paddle! Yikes! I wanted to paddle board with my dog Bruno. Tyler is the dog surfer I originally talked with this past tuesday. He brings his dog in with him to work occasionally. He gave me some tips on how to make my dog comfortable when teaching my dog to ride with me and fit me for the type of board that would be perfect for my lifestyle. So I tested out paddle boarding with my dog on a borrowed board this morning at Ala Moana park and Bruno and I loved it! We just couldn't wait to get our own. Lancen helped me today since Tyler wasn't in and he was great, sweet and got me in and out today. I paid for my board and they placed side protectors on for me and grips at the nose of my board so my pup can ride with me. My husband got my dog and I a Wave Guru for my cosmetology graduation and my dog Bruno's Novice graduation. Time to go have some fun. read more

After a truly appalling customer service experience at Kimo's in Kailua, we drove across the island to Blue Planet Surf. It was like landing on a different planet. The staff were so helpful, answering all our questions, making suggestions and providing advice without it ever feeling like a sales pitch. They gave my kids handfuls of free stickers as distraction while we checked out their beautiful product line. I spent way more money than I'd planned and still left smiling. I've always admired my friend's SUP boards and asked where she recommend I buy one. When she mentioned Blue Planet Surf, I wasn't surprised. They have nice SUP boards and I e heard they have excellent customer service. With the Covid pandemic, I know locals have been going to the beach a lot more than usual- so boards of any type have been hard to find. I went with the Big Paradise- 10x34x4'4 - had to reserve one with a $200 deposit due to being sold out. I picked it up a few days later. Woke up and decided to go try standup paddle boarding for the first time. Since it was last minute, we called a bunch of places but quite a few required reservations (because they transport your board from somewhere else) and too late. Luckily we found Blue Planet just down by Ala Moana Beach Park, which is a great place for beginners anyway. Perfect. But the biggest pro is that the price is for all day (return before 5pm), instead of first hour + additional hour fee. This way, even if we were done with SUP, we wouldn't have to rush back to return them but could just chill at the beach. The rental price is the same as other places for 2 hours, how awesome is that. Google and Yelp say they're open at 10am but we were able to show up and rent our boards at 9:30am. Tylor was super helpful in explaining everything we needed to know before we even knew that we needed to know. He put our boards on the car roof rack and off we went. We picked a spot on the West side of the Ala Moana Beach where was quieter. SUP was fun and easy, I had the first and awesome experience. Tylor suggested the large beginner boards, I did not fall off once on it and I wasn't even being careful. I will definitely return to Blue Planet Surf next time I visit Honolulu. read more

I just bought a used SUP and was looking for a cover. Blue Planet really is the SUP headquarters when it comes to paddle boards and all accessories! They carry a lot of board bags, paddles (& paddle bags), leashes, fins, pads, racks, and more. They have a large selection of their own Blue Planet SUPs. Their SUPs come in all sizes (heights) and shapes. They also have SUPs for all different purposes like surfing, racing, yoga, and for just cruising on flat water. You're bound to find the SUP you need and want here! They also have a pretty decent set of used SUPs. Used SUPs weren't necessarily BP but they had all different brands and sizes (He'e Nalu, Bote, Starboard just to name a few). Prices varied. Everyone working here was very nice and I got the help I needed to find my SUP cover right away. The girl apologized for being short-staffed but I didn't think it affected their customer service at all. I would definitely recommend Blue Planet to anyone needing things for their SUP. They do have their own small parking lot for customers! read more

When you live on an island surrounded by ocean, going to the beach to just swim around the shallow waters and lying out for a tan can get a bit boring. And sometimes the only times you try new things are when out-of-town guests come to visit you. After renting out SUPs at other places, my boyfriend finally decided he wanted to invest into his own SUP. He found this gem on Yelp and decided to check out. Blue Planet Surf is located in Ward area (between Blaisdell and Ward Center), next to Shell and Duckbutt Cafe. They have their own parking lot; it's not very big, but we've never had a problem finding parking, even on weekends. They have a huge selection of boards and they're all sorted by brands, with the rental boards closer to the parking lot side. Not only do they sell/rent SUP, but they carry all water gear accessories and apparels. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and helped right away. We came in with the intention to buy a board, but had very little knowledge on which board to get. The staff went out of their way to educate us on all their models and answered all the basic questions you could possibly ask about SUP since we were only beginners. They were patient and super professional even when we asked a lot of questions. The one guy that stood out for us was Solomon (sorry, not sure if that's how you spell his name). Not only was he friendly and helpful, but he was honest and wanted us to be confident with our purchase. We also loved that Blue Planet credits back rental charges (up to $250) towards the purchase of a new board. With that said, we decided to rent out 2 SUPs that we were interested in to test it out before purchasing (1 SUP was one my boyfriend was interested in and the 2nd SUP was one Solomon suggested). When we were in the waters, my boyfriend fell in love with the board Solomon suggested. Good thing we tested it out before buying it! With their credit back rental charge program, it's like we pretty much rented 2 boards for free :) Plus, the board we purchased came with everything: paddle, fins, deck pad, board bag and cords. Before you exit the store, there's a bell and sign that says "ring the bell if you received excellent service." And you know I rang that bell with pride after we walked out the store! :) read more

It looked so nice and inspirational where I wanted to go jump in the water and catch some waves. Seriously had the best experience with these guys. Rented SUP (stand up paddleboards) for about a half day for a few of us girls (a couple locals and myself, a visitor). It was my first time paddle boarding so I had to watch an introductory video. It was only under 10 min and explains the basics of paddle boarding (only required for first-timers). My cousin only goes here to rent paddle board gear. The boards themselves were in excellent condition and customer service was great! The guys helped us and taught us how to strap the boards to our car safely. Our other friends who rented from a shop in Waikiki had nasty, old, way-beat up boards and the staff didn't teach them how to properly secure their boards. This shop and the dudes who work it are really chill! Highly recommend to anyone visiting Oahu to rent from here. :) read more

When I went to buy Starboard SUP owner of blue planet insisted to buy Blue Planet Brand SUP. They said it is comming from exactly the same factory as Starboard in Thailand and fractions of cost. Also they push me buying Hydrofoils SUP to catch more waves in the crowded. By the way they lied they were made in china. As I tried on small waves to learn how to operate, I fall then caught up with foil and it cut me bad had to go hospital to do operation. Also other surfer in front of me got hit and now her face has cut and will have issue with her. I was looking for a SUP to catch good waves and cruise around on weekends. Went to this shop: they suggested me to buy instead their "Hydro Foil Sup" when I wanted to buy a normal sup to surf and cruise. They said if "you want to catch more waves" in places like Waikiki with a lot of people around, the answer is to get a the hydro foil SUP. They said"I could be a champion in Waikiki beach ". So I did. I went to Waikiki beach to try it out on knee high wave and fell when catching the wave, then the foil blade hit my leg and I started bleeding so much. I had to rush to the ER and the result was quite bad, 60 stitches ... This shop doesn't have the Hawaiian Aloha spirit, but just want to make money, its very very bad. I am hesitating to expose it , but for the justice to warn other people I have committed myself to expose it all out.The sales person was the owner s wife as she mentioned few times....I think it is unethical to run a business only to think about their profit and NOT concerning about their customers safety. I do not recommend this shop at ALL.Not even a star worth of it. read more

After United Airlines damaged 3 surfboards in 3 trips to Hawaii, I finally gave up when the last baggage supervisor blamed the TSA inspectors for the damage and refused to pay for the repair and threatened to destroy my board if I didn't take the way it was at 5 am. I had a new custom board made by a local shaper who hooked me up with Blueplanet and they've been taking care of it for the last few years.
