Within one week, Gene was able to sell the board and wire me the proceeds. The service was excellent, and the process was easy. Most importantly, I was living in a small apartment and did not have the space to store 2 long boards. I had a real good experience at Used Surfboards Hawaii. I went there twice to look for a SUP Board. The first time, I was just looking to see what they had and the price ranges of the boards. The 2nd time, I wanted to see if any new SUP boards came in and I found a beautiful 9ftx30ftx4inch board and the color was perfect! Alex, the owner (I think that was his name) was really nice and helpful. Very honest bc he said that even tho my board was a good, solid board for SUP, it had some work that needed to be done on it. A couple dings and holes here and there but he has a guy that does repairs on boards there at his shop. Bc Alex kept giving me discounts left and right, I ended up getting a SUP board, adjustable titanium paddle, lease and a pink boggie board for my daughter. The repairs were done well, and even looks wise, the repair sector tries to not only fix the issue, but also blend the colors and finish so its almost not noticeable. Both my repairs, were perfect and not even noticeable. 5 stars! The moment you need a repair, that day, just take it in. My repair was on a Sunday drop-off. It was a bummer that I dinged my board, but the silver lining was they were open on Sunday to take the board in, then a few weeks later it was good as new. Check the pictures, they did a great job. My husband's Channel Islands surfboard was burned in the stores fire almost 2 years ago. I've been told for over a year now that we'll get our money soon. Constant run around from Gene the owner. Either he's not in when I call or I'm told he's working on it and should be any day now. This is not how you run a business. It's shady and dishonest. I've left emails that never get responded to. This place recently had a fire that supposedly devastated the shop. That's awful, but they're being very non-communicative about what happens to those of us who lost our boards on consignment. Many loyal customers have sent several emails and called them but haven't received a response about the status of our boards. A huge bonus is the cute and really smart dog named Kaiser. He sat on my board like he was surfing. Crazy. Over my many visits to the shop I'm not sure if my daughter and I were just lucky or what but I found a used 9'6" NSP, 8'4" Modern, and 7'6" Culture Egg for myself. My daughter hit the jackpot when she found a Takayama Egg! Her eyes lit up like it was Christmas! The prices were reasonable and Alex made sure that we were getting fair prices. Each and every time we had an enjoyable transaction. Spending hundreds of dollars is stressful but at least we knew we weren't getting ripped off. Each time they helped us with fins, leashes, and wax. They also always gave us surfboard information like how to put on the leash string, base coat waxing, and board care. They made sure to answer all of our questions. They stock a lot of different boards amongst other surf products. You will not be disappointed. The store is clean and organized. Crowded times vary and tend to come in waves. Haha, waves...get it? Pun intended. Oh and they also give you pointers on how to repair your own board or they can get it fixed for you professionally. We went to look at surfboards, and didn't end up buying any, but Alex, the proprieter, was super helpful and friendly. We were looking for beginner boards, and he showed us a few and was straightforward about the pricing. It's a consignment store business model, so if you have boards to sell, they take a 25% cut (only 15% if you are selling a board you bought from them originally). There's plenty to choose from, and they have contractors they work with to do board repairs. Alex also told us he'd be happy to look over boards for free that you're buying from someone else (i.e. Craigslist) to give you an appraisal. What a guy! He says he's looking for the loyalty, not the sale. It's a great place to look for a board. HIGHLY recommend this shop. The owner is amazing, and really values his customers. I've now sold one longboard, one fun board, and just dropped off a short board yesterday. There is a consignment fee of 25%, but I feel it is worth it for the work they put in (pictures, cleaning, posting, selling, etc). Saves me the hassle of sketchy craigslist meet-ups and low ball flaky offers. My previous two boards sold in less than a month. Checks can either be mailed or picked up at the store location. The store has a wide selection of boards and accessories (wax, fins, leashes, parts, etc). They also do repairs in house for a reasonable price. Accidentally went to the old location where the fire was, so make sure you go to the Sand Island address. My wife is in the market for a mid length. I didn't expect there to be much inventory at the new loc. Parking was a little tight but there's empty spots here and there around the area. Gene was more than polite and luckily he had the magic board that we were looking for (trial surf today) ready to be listed on their website. It was an Outlier 2 + 1 with a decent mark down from the price brand new. He let us browse his selection in the back, which was bigger than expected, but we ended up buying the Outlier. Funny how it worked out. Ended up being a one-stop shop. He set us up with leash, side bites and single fin. Unfortunately, it's our first single fin so I forgot the screw. Came back today and they were closed but luckily the boyz at DingDocs took care of me. I took in my 7.0' Olo for repair at the end of last year (2018) and staff and Alex were super friendly. Price was reasonable to repair a fin box. On that day I also ended up buying a JK Hammerhead for a good price (Wife wasn't too happy about my purchase :0) The JK is super fun. There's a plethora...yes a plethora of boards to choose from. Went back about a month later put 3 boards on consignment and the third just sold (gave my wife some of the proceeds). Took all of the work out of hustling and meeting people to sell my boards. I just wait for the checks to come. I called recently as my Olo's fin box (the one that got repaired) seemed a little off when I put the fin in. Alex said that all work is Guaranteed and told me I could bring it in and that he would look at it and take care of it if it wasn't up to par. Hopefully I don't buy another board when I go back to drop my deck off. I will definately recommend this business to friends and family. I love the transparency and the customer service. My husband and I frequent this shop quite often because he loves to check out the new inventory in search of his next board. Here's the skinny: it's a no-frills, tiny shop with a ton of surf boards. It looks tiny from the outside, but Alex, the owner, is definitely making the best use of this narrow business space. There are boards lined up alongside the walls and he even has some hanging from the ceiling. It's quaint, but there is plenty to look at. All of the boards are used and in varying conditions, but Alex is really upfront about the boards. He can point out any repairs and potential trouble spots, so you can make an informed decision. He's got everything from short boards, to long boards, to SUPs on consignment. I will say that his consignment rate seems to be pretty fair too. We have not tried to sell anything from his shop, but it sounds like a pretty good rate, especially when compared to some other shops in town. The main reason we like this shop is Alex. He is the owner of the shop and we never felt any pressure to buy anything while we were there. We came buy a few times and only wanted to browse without the pressure of a sales person. It was nice to just walk around and check out the boards. Alex is really knowledgeable of his inventory, so he is interesting to chat with. We also always have our dog with us when we visit the shop and he loves Alex and his staff. They always say hi and play with him while my hubby browses the boards. My hubby finally settled on a Keoni board that he had been watching for about a week now. It is a beautiful board and in pretty good shape. Can't say enough about how great this shop is from the selection of surfboards, to the reasonable and negotiable prices, to the very helpful and cordial people who work there! The BF had to make an "emergency buy" to enter a surf contest after his regular favorite broke. You can imagine that was going to be a tall order to fill. So we saw this shop advertised online and decided to check it out. Btw, they sell their boards online also. Wow! The boards are organized and displayed very well. The selection is tremendous and features lot of well-known shapers. The condition of the boards range from needs some work to ready to ride.
