Well, since I come from the West Coast, where you can't sling a dead cat without hitting a teriyaki restaurant, it's very popular however it is prepared far different than here. But that is no reflection on service, it's simply the way they prepare their meals. So I was very disappointed in my meal. Again, I just wasn't expecting what I got. I thought it would be done like they do back home. I do not know anything about their commonly served Japanese food as I just can't eat it. I would not order from this restaurant again. Stopped here on a whim, and was shocked at the quality of the sushi rolls. Wife ordered hibachi beef. I ordered a paradise roll. First of all, the roll was huge. I have a good appetite, and struggled to finish it. The flavors and combination of fish was extraordinary. Perhaps one of the best rolls I've ever had. Wife's dish didn't have as much flavor, but quality and quantity were excellent. Not sure what those other folks experienced, but service was great, and we ate on nice ceramic dinnerware. My daughter and I ate here two weeks ago and it was not good. We ordered tempura - tempura greasy the batter was closer to funnel cake. sushi - spider roll is not soft shell crab; but they battered imitation crab in the tempura batter/ fried it put it in a roll with a mayonnaise sauce. Although a year ago I had a terrible Experience here . It has greatly improved with space and sound reduction. The sit down meal was on glass plates with Corteous staff. Chopsticks supplied! The clear soup is super flavorful!! Absolutely wonderful! The service is a little slow, but the food is pretty decent. The "jumbo" shrimp leave little to be desired. I would hate to see what the regular sized shrimp look like. They do not have sake which is a staple for me when I go to Japanese steakhouses. Really great place! My friend and I were on our way back from a trip and wanted to grab a bite to eat. We typically stop at franchises (where we know we're going to get what's consistent) but we decided to try out this place! I'm always a little hesitant to try out random side road places (because they're either a hit or miss) but this place was definitely a HIT!! We got the Tornado Roll & Hibachi Shrimp. The roll came deep fried and was soo good, we were probably in awe for the first bite. And the hibachi shrimp was fresh! Just like the other reviews has mentioned, the food tastes very fresh here. My family has been going to this place since it opened. We get the same thing every time. We love it, and now that I live out of state, I make it a point to eat here (take out) every trip into town. It's become a tradition. Sadly the last two times we've ordered food here, it has been a bit disappointing. I'm not sure what has happened, but the portion sizes have literally been cut in half. However, the price has remained the same... We may give it one more shot, but if that's the new standard we won't order here anymore. It's EXPENSIVE, but we don't mind paying for good, quality food. Consistency goes a long ways though and lately it hasn't been that. We always order the chicken/shrimp and rice. The box is always full. Eh it's okay I guess with a name like Kobe express I would have assumed they would not be using home style sweet carrots as a side dish with their hibachi dishes ..... pretty weird and makes no sense at all .....typically they are sliced thin and sautéed in with the other vegetables and are kept al dente I mean they don't taste bad or whatever but carrots that style they just don't belong in these style of dishes ... just do yourself a favor and get rid of them slice your carrots thin and at a angle and cook them al dente and stir fry them with everything else ... also whoever preps and makes your sushi rice needs to learn how to make sushi rice this is just friendly criticism ..... it's too starchy which is a indicator that whoever is making the rice does not know how to rinse the rice until it comes up clear before you cook it .... also it could be an indicator that you are not mixing your rice vinegar with the rice in a WOODEN bowl that's another key factor or you could be possibly using too much rice vinegar .... or packing the sushi rice on too tight last time I went there to eat I felt like I was eating a dense packed glob of sushi rice and it took away form the filling in the roll.... when your sushi roll feels like there's a lot of weight to it and it's THAT dense because of the rice there's a problem .... I've eaten onigiri (rice balls) less dense than your sushi rolls and that's just BAD ... again friendly criticism ....also you should make your own sauce for the top because it literally tastes like you guys purchased squeezable fucking Hellman's mayonnaise from the store and just put it on top this isn't a turkey sandwich from subway ....you have to use a Mayo more the style of kewpie sushi Mayo or make your own spicy Mayo to put on top .... the eel sauce you use is fine and the sauces you use for the hibachi is fine also other than that everything seems just fine also add more complex Americanized specialty rolls onto your special sushi roll menu ...... do those few things I said and you guys will be in a way better position thanks for hearing me out also the only reason people around here like your food is because they aren't used to anything better because this is a small rinky dink town please improve on your sushi and change the carrot thing ...... I live local and I like the flavor but those things need to be worked on and I don't want to have to drive to Asheville to get decent sushi ... please you guys are like so close to being a decent place by me if those things were just changed read more

I've eaten there twice now I been a sushi and Japanese food fan for many years the staff is friendly and courteous. I love thier food and the people there is a great place to get sushi and sashimi I prefer the simple rolls like the spicy tuna rolls. I like my rolls with less sauce so if I order any that come with morango suace or any other I tell them sauce lightly or on the side its just my personal preference I like the taste of the food not overly sauced read more
