Solid spot! Came on Sun night around 6:30 and they had seating at the sushi bar. They provided a complimentary salad at the sushi bar...which was a nice touch. We ordered Edamame ($7) and my bride ordered the Sweetheart roll ($15) and she really enjoyed it and commented how much she loved the soy paper. The food is always to die for (literally not even exaggerating I would dual for a free meal at Sora), I've gotten Bento C seven times in a row over the course of a year. Wish I was kidding. The waitstaff is (at the timeframe I dine during,) a group of delightful young women that always compliment me on my eyeliner and are very friendly to me :) the lady that has the red hair said she liked my sweater one time, cherished memory. The place is usually pretty full, but the service is quick and A-grade every time, so I never mind. They don't use the harsh big lights in here, so the restaurant is like, "classy dark". We frequently eat at Sora and usually have a great experience - tonight has been the most frustrating experience due to the service. Our server tried hard, and it got more irritating the longer we sat. As we finished up our meal, we asked for the check, the server wanted to clear the table and stated, "it is harder for me to do it later," implying that it is easier for her to put us out as customers, disrupting us, moving plates around, almost bumping each of us with dishes - in my mind, clearing the table when customers are gone seems like a much more logical option. I will be requesting a new server next time we eat at Sora. Disappointing evening. read more

Wow, we haven't written about Sora since 2009? Our bad. We've dined here multiple times since then and never had less than a very good experience. Sora's consistency is quite remarkable and definitely praiseworthy. The restaurant was and remains a high-quality establishment that we are always eager to return to. We focused mostly on sashimi on his latest visit: tuna, salmon, yellowtail, spicy yellowtail scallion roll, miso soup, tuna tatami. You get the idea. Every single bite was delicious, perfectly prepared and attractively served. Don't know how they manage to get such fresh raw fish, but do they ever! The servers are invariably pleasant and helpful (ours helped guide us from the giant Sapporo to a more modestly drinkable size). We believe the prices are more than fair based on the quality of the food. There's a busy, warm vibe in this small space that is also appealing, but we're here for that terrific sushi/sashimi. read more

It pays to have a server who not only cares about you and serving you, but is quick, thorough, friendly and helpful to a T. I didn't catch her name, but she was a pretty young woman who had a very nice personality. I watched as she laughed and giggled with her other tables & she was very spot on with her food orders and deliveries. The ambiance here is that of what you would expect from a genuine Japanese restaurant. It is a small space but it is utilized well. The whole place was clean and the staff does a great job tidying up and cleaning as they go. The food here was good! I ordered some steamed shrimp shumai to start, along with some white tuna sashimi and salmon nigiri. The shumai was not really the shumai I was expecting it to be, but I understand that the Cantonese dim sum siomai and Japanese shumai are different. To me, it lacked flavor so I'm left with the impression that it might come prepackaged because it didn't taste fresh. That's okay though! The salmon nigiri was very fresh and tasted amazing! It was one of the best cuts of sushi grade salmon I've ever had! The white tuna sashimi also tasted very good. It was served as two large chunks of fish, which I was not used to and it was a little cold, so I'm not sure if had thawed out completely, but it was delicious! The chunky style cut of the fish wasn't my favorite, but I was still satisfied. I then ordered a spicy tuna roll and to my surprise, the filling to rice ratio was perfect! They don't skimp on the filling and that made me VERY happy! Many times you order a simple sushi roll and the inside is less than the rice outside of the roll, but here, it was made the way it should always be made! My server didn't let it sit on the window for long either after it was made by the sushi chef, which I very much appreciated because sushi is supposed to be served fresh to order. The longer it sits, the worse. All the right textures and flavors begin to worsen. Also, to my surprise, we're little crunchy tempura flakes and balls that must have also been freshly made because they added a very lovely texture to the flavor of the spicy tuna chop chop. Not to mention, I ordered a cup of green tea and both my server the other older lady who worked here made sure to keep my tea hot. They even brought me an extra cup when my other cup got cold. It's the details like that which make a whole dining experience fantastic! All of this to say, I have a favorite place to eat here in this area! I may come back this afternoon for lunch! read more

The nicest staff and the most unassuming little hole in the wall! I'd venture to call it 'quaint.' We spoke to a group of people - young child, mom, dad, and grandmother (the only local) - who have all been going there for years and consider it their go-to. We were seated at the sushi bar (due to lack of logistical options for a high chair), and - fun fact - that means you get crunch crab salad upon seating. YUM! Even my 2 year old was devouring it. And speaking of her, the sushi staff were so kind and amused as they let her watch them at work. My MIL, FIL, and husband all had teriyaki something (one chicken, one shrimp, one steak) and I had the Pad Thai. The servings were HUGE and each dish was equally tasty. Two separate servers stopped to drop off mints and coo at our sweet girl. We aren't local but we do come down 1-2 times/year and will DEFINITELY be back! read more

Ok here's what's wrong with this Japanese restaurant and sushi bar in little old Brevard............NOTHING! "The Wife" and I live in St Pete Beach on Florida's west coast. We eat sushi at least twice a week at home. We have been coming up to Mills River for five years and NEVER knew about this place. Once we found it we spent our last two evenings having some of the best sushi we had anywhere. Now the food is superb, the service was excellent and the place is nice, clean and has a great ambience. What more could you want? I wish they would open one in St Pete Beach! Try it it's wonderful. read more

Excellent sushi! As a former restaurant inspector, I was always very impressed with how the staff at Sora handled their fish and this restaurant is one of the very few I order sushi from. The owners are extremely conscientious in maintaining food of excellent quality. Han is the main sushi chef and is always creating delicious combinations and special rolls. We were looking for something casual after a day of hiking and found Sora Japanese. I am really glad that we found this and it's a hidden gem. From the outside, it doesn't look like anything really special, but for the inside, it's an amazing restaurant. For our entrees, I got a few different sushi rolls and my wife got the hibachi shrimp. We both thought that the seafood was very fresh. Service was really good. Our server was on point with all of our needs. Their lunch menu's selection is solid and while items were a bit on the pricy side for lunch specials (what isn't these days?) the servings are also not small. They have a wide variety of Bento boxes, some Hibachi specials, the requisite sushi/sashimi platters (chef's choice) and a handful of rolls. And as a bonus for anyone who may not be a fan of Japanese food they have Thai Curry plates available with your choice of curries and proteins. Brown rice is available for any dish (other than sushi rolls). I opted for the Chicken Katsu bento and my wife got Masaman Chicken Thai Curry. The panko breading on the Katsu was both flaky and fluffy with the right crunch from perfectly cooking it; no oily taste. In fact the flavors on everything were exactly as they should be, from the miso soup and the ginger dressing on their salad to the dumplings and sprouts in the Bento box. Not a drop of curry or a piece of garnish was left afterwards. We've been meaning to try this place for some time but honestly I'd never really gotten my hopes up for good, authentic Japanese food here in the South. I've eaten at a lot of Japanese restaurants across the US and even several throughout Japan, so I wasn't really expecting too much. But Sora nailed it across the board. We both agreed that was the best meal we've had anywhere in or around Asheville in quite a while, and we almost never agree on that. read more

Nice Setting and a very Creative Menu Grew up about 3 miles from this restaurant but of course, it did not exist back them. Brevard at that time did not even have an Asian Restaurant but times have changed somewhat since then. Don't come to Brevard that often anymore since my parents passed away but do make it up once a year at least for a dinner with my High School Classmates. Main even is always elsewhere but for other meals, you're on your own and this is one of the spots that my wife and I like to dine at. It's in a small shopping Center right at the entrance to the Pisgah National Forest. Very clean and tastefully decorated with a pleasant Japanese design. Staff is generally very efficient although there have been time when management underestimated staffing requirements and try as well as they can, they just can't keep up. Fortunately these event do not occur all that often. Very creative menu and while my wife is not generally a fan of Japanese Cuisine, she does like the Miso Soup and the Green Salad. As far myself I like the Dinner Bento A which is Shrimp Teriyaki, Chicken Yakitori, a Steamed Shrimp Dumpling and a California Roll. All good but the Shirmp Dumpling is outstanding. Don't be put off by its strip mall location, this place is awesome! Very friendly service, excellent sushi, and a wide variety of choices on both the food and drink menu. Our server even made us a mojito mocktail! Be prepared to wait, this place is very popular (we went on a Monday night at 6:10pm, and they were on a 45 minute wait). I don't think there is another sushi restaurant in the area, but even if there was, it would be hard to beat this one! We will definitely come back when in Brevard. read more

Went here for lunch on a Sunday, and it was truly lovely. The waiter was both knowledgable and friendly about my gluten-free diet. He pointed out the items on the menu that would work for me, and he also offered to order the rainbow roll without crab stick (imitation crab) so it would be gluten-free.
