Brisket with Brunswick stew sub and burnt ends baked beans
    Lita L.

This is our third Haywood Smokehouse location, all different inside, but all have great food. We got the Brisket platter which comes with 2 sides you can choose, and substitute one side for Brunswick Stew for a dollar, which is what we opted for. They ask you how you like your Brisket lean or with fat too. There's a choice of great barbecue sauces that they bring to your table. Food was great, especially the burnt ends baked beans. The Brunswick stew was a nice substitute side, flavorful and came with crackers. Brisket was tender and tasty as usual. We'll always come back to one of the locations.

Amazing food and service. Classic BBQ decor. Got the Cowboy Cuban and it was outstanding. Their sauce is like a mix between a sweet and a mustard. Excellent. Got the Brunswick stew and it was good. Reviewed very highly and it's well deserved.

Ribs, Pulled Pork and Brisket with Baked Beans and Coleslaw
    Richard W.

The pulled pork was absolutely delicious. The ribs didn't need a thing. They came right off the bone. The smoke flavor on the brisket didn't overwhelm the flavor of the meat. The BEST BBQ I've had in North Carolina EVER!!! The baked beans and coleslaw were also delicious. Be WARNED if you get the Banana Pudding. It's HUGE!!!! Be sure and sit at the bar .... Liz will take care of your ever need with hustle and a smile. As a side note the music selection is PERFECT for the environment.

Two Meat Combo Ribs and Brisket Mac & Cheese and Nana's Creamy Coleslaw

Now this is a 5-star review but not everything on the menu is 5-star. The hostess told us the brisket was the thing there but it was just ok in my opinion. The fat... perfection. The rest of the meat... meh. Now the ribs. PHENOMENAL. Fell right off the bone just as clean as if you'd taken a power sander to them. Absolutely delicious. The pork also was well cooked and tested great. The Texas Toast was just ok as well. Basically very buttered bread. The Mac and cheese was delicious. And has just a little spice to it. Not that much but enough that people who really can't handle spice may not care for it. And I know why they called it Nana's creamy coleslaw. Because it wasn't creamy. Nana must have just thought it was. Also... these people love the Duke. There are pictures of John Wayne everywhere.

Every time we visit Franklin this place is a must. My go to is always the build your own quesadilla with chicken and jalapenos in it. I then started with a side salad and had the greens for my side. Amazinggggg

Stopped in around four p.m. left the Casino. Didn't want to get off track. The place has a cute smokehouse vibe with wood paneling, American flags. Typical bbq menu with sides. I ordered the turkey and brisket with Mac and cheese and fries. The meats had no smoked flavor, overdone and dry. The two meat platter was $22.00.

    BBQ and Brunswick stew.

Driving from out of town trough North Carolina and just happened on this place.. AMAZING!! All of it.... Service, atmosphere and FOOD. From the smoked wings, pulled pork, brisket and the best of show the RIBS! Bar far hands down one of the best BBQs!

    Brisket quesadilla

Y'all have to try the Brisket quesadilla. It's absolutely delicious. and the collard greens too. One of my favorite dishes in the whole town of Franklin.

My wife did a little research and found a few options for an early dinner on the Friday after Thanksgiving. We ended up picking Haywood because we have not had BBQ in a while and were intrigued to see they have 90 five star reviews on Yelp and 715 reviews on Google averaging 4.7. We arrived about 3:30pm and it was not very busy. There were a few other tables seated and we could see they have bar seating as well. We were promptly seated at a table in a side room that could also be used for larger groups. We were provided menus and our drink orders were taken. Kayleigh was very friendly and shared her favorite menu items with us when we asked for suggestions. My wife chose the three bone dry rubbed ribs with a double order of green beans for her two sides. I decided to try the Texas Two-Step which is Texas toast with sliced brisket, Andouille sausage and pepper jack cheese. We asked Kayleigh about the sauces and she was happy to bring us bottles of multiple flavors to try when our meals arrived. Our entrees arrived quickly and looked delicious! My wife really enjoyed her green beans, they were flavorful and loaded with bacon. She also really enjoyed the ribs, they were fall off the bone and she liked the house sauce, "sweet red" the best. I dug into my mac and cheese and really enjoyed the sandwich as well. The slice of brisket on my sandwich was surely 3/4 to 1 inch thick. My favorite sauce was the mustard based, "Sweet Carolina" sauce. No, not like the song. My wife had been craving sweets all day so she ended up ordering the brownie sundae for dessert. She really enjoyed the warm brownie served with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and cherries. Overall this was a great experience and we were impressed to see they have a total of three locations. Kayleigh is very good at what she does too.

Two ways to enter - straight up stairs or multi level stairs, each depending on your knee strength - optional wheel chair accessible entrance at the front with a single handicap parking space. Upon entry, the scent of bbq smacked me right in the face. Greeted by two staff members and the bbq pit master. Not expecting a craft beer bar inside but it had a big brew selection on tap with cocktails and wine too. Ordered three full slab of bbq ribs with cole slaw and shoe string onions for $34.00, thought it was pricey until I saw the plate coming toward me by the server with two half slabs (see pic). The sheer girth and weight of the ribs were worthy of the price point. Bit into the first half slab and at the same time got a whiff of the sticky charred meat. Holy S*** it was fall off the bone moist with a nice smoky sauce, which brought an immeditate tear of joy to my left eye. I put some sweet sauce on my slab and onto my onions for added bliss. I have to commend them for the flavorful coleslaw with a light tang of vinegar. Lately, I have been getting bland coleslaw at restaurants but took a leap of faith here and was rewarded handsomely. The gender neutral ADA compliant bathroom was clean with a rustic theme. Dark wood walls with an oval mirror hovering above the wall mounted modern sink. Little gift shop at the entry door slinging Highlands Smokehouse items. Wonderful experience here and would recommend it highly to anyone that loves bbq in North Carolina.

We were not real hungry so ordered from the appetizer menu. Tomato bisque, smoked trout dip with crackers, Roasted beet salad and a glass of sangria. The tomato basil bisque was absolute "must try" good. The smoked trout was much to salty, maybe just my taste buds. The roasted beet salad was also good with fresh greens and an interesting assortment of almonds. But the beets were not roasted. Fresh beets are full of sugar and when halved or quartered then roasted, the sugar caramelizes and gives a unique flavor to the beets. These beets had no special flavor, they were from a can and quartered. Now the really bad, especially as they are a winery. I like sangria, it's a refreshing cool summer drink, composed of fresh fruit (apples, pears, plums, grapes and a healthy portion of citrus) and wine that is left to marinate. I watched the bartender add some 1/4inch pieces of green apples to a glass, fill with ice cubes and add wine. That is not sangria, that is watered down wine with an apple garnish. I will say that the food at other tables really looked good.
