This place used to be our favorite Japanese restaurant until tonight. Man it has gone downhill. 80 minutes and still no food. Our drinks have been empty for 45 minutes nits not even busy. Was in the area on business so decided to dive into the fast growing Rock Hill sushi scene by giving the highest rated spot a try during lunchtime. Decided to start with some Nigiri (Hotate, Madai, Unagi, Ikura) to get a feel for the quality and flavor of the fish and rice and overall, the fish wasn't bad or anything, but also didn't have much flavor as it was just kinda eh. From there, I decided to try a couple of rolls to get a feel for presentation, taste and quality, so I went with Black Dragon and 911. Again, nothing bad to say, but to me, the rolls were basic level, similar to something one would find at Sushi 101, Mr Tokyo or a comparable mid-level type spot. The rolls weren't built very well as they broke apart easily and didn't have much in the way of overall taste but again, I will say that the service was really friendly and attentive, with my water glass being filled consistently which is a always a huge plus in my book, so that takes the rating from a 2.5 to a 3. Given the area, I didn't have high expectations, and for Rock Hill, this is a totally passable spot, but in my view, as long as you don't go into it expecting authentic Japanese, you will be fine. I see lots of high reviews, so ultimately I say judge for yourself, but given my love for sushi (as evidenced by my reviews), I can't in good conscience give this a higher rating as that would do justice to the handful of places in the Charlotte and surrounding area that are legitimately 4 star establishments, as grading on a curve due to location wouldn't be fair in my opinion. With that said, the service was welcoming and friendly, and it is a relatively decent option given the area, so don't be afraid to check it out and judge for yourself. read more

My son treated me to a dinner here recently...and we noticed some big changes. Since last time here (not too long ago), they added these big, comfy booths in the middle of the restaurant. Also, they added some spooktacular Halloween decor! We stopped in around 6:30 pm on Monday night, and was able to slide right into a seat with no wait. We ordered 2 apps, Crab Rangoon and Shrimp Tempura...and both were really good. In fact, my son thought it was possibly the best Rangoon he's ever had. Shrimp Tempura was super-crispy...and there were 5 big strips. Yum!! For our mains, I just got this sushi roll, "Hottie Roll". It was pretty good, but somewhat basic. Nothing like the rolls I tried the very first time here (see pics from my 1st visit...WOW??). My son got this Chicken Teriyaki rice dish, and he told them to take out the veggies (*SIGH*). He seemed to enjoy his dish. Overall, we both enjoyed our meal...and found the restaurant very relaxing and accommodating. Honestly, I was most impressed on my first visit...with their chef-inspired sushi presentation. I think that was the master sushi chef for this restaurant? After drinking some wine next door at the nail salon, I decided I needed to get some food in my belly. The person at the salon said the food at Kobe was good, so I decided to try it out. It was December so they had a nice Christmas tree in their lounge area located next to the bar at their front entrance. The crab rangoon was excellent. Very crispy. The dynamite chicken was just ok. It was pretty flavorless and the chili spice I asked for didn't help much. It was disappointing that I got a coke for $3 and was never offered a refill. I ran out. The atmosphere is typical bar like. They do have regular tables to sit at. I would try it again, I may have just ordered the wrong thing to be impressed. read more

The sushi was excellent! Super fresh and delicious. Hibachi was fantastic too. Best spring rolls I've ever had. The only complaint I have is not with the food but the very inattentive waiter on a not busy Thursday evening after 8pm. Food was A+ but service was a C at best. What a great experience! Our server was polite and attentive. The food was delicious . We had the chicken hibachi and the chicken bento box. The portion was perfect. It's funny we went to hobo's in rock hill first and could not get waited on so we left and went to Kobe's. I'm so happy we did. To go along with the complete dining experience, Ella and the rest of the wait staff have always gone above and beyond expectations each and every time that we have come back. We recently went to this restaurant as we had heard good things. After our experience we will never go back. We did get seated fairly soon after we arrived but that was about the only positive thing we experienced while dining here. Our waiter was absent most of the time we were there and we had to ask other people to help us get things. The food came out so staggered for the four people in my group it was embarrassing. I got my sushi first. And when I was almost done my husband received his meal. Our two children didn't get their fried rice (the only thing they ordered) until my husband was almost done. By that point they were so frustrated and overly hungry they didn't want to eat anymore. When we each did finally receive our food it was just ok. Not nearly good enough to forgive the horrible!!!!! service. With all the new hibachi/sushi places opening up in our area I don't see how this place will continue on if they don't fix some major issues with their restaurant. read more
