Or the volcano and train with the onion. Our chef threw a new one on me where he tossed an egg in his hat and pulled out a wind up chick. My kind of humor, right along with a toddler. The food is amazing, staff has spectacular service as well. It was our first time there yesterday, around 2:30 we loved our waitress we didn't need to ask for refills on our drinks, etc. The food was so yummy, we had Steak, skewered chicken, Gyoza, spring rolls, tempura shrimp and vegetables and fried rice, the only thing was we felt the fried rice needed a little less butter and oil, however it still tasted great. First visit to Kobe Steakhouse in Great Falls, and it seems to be the only Japanese-ish restaurant in town. It was packed on a Thurs PM with large groups around the group table, a fun ambiance. We enjoyed some sake, sushi and a teriyaki steak bento box. It wasn't the best teriyaki (sauce) I've had but the steak was delicious, we enjoyed our sushi rolls and tempura, and it sure hit the craving for Japanese. For the prices, I expected more in quantity and quality. 1. Sushi martini: 6 pieces of 6 different fish + seaweed salad for $23. Sushi had way too much rice and and the fish tasted old. 2. Friend ordered stir fried noodles. Shrimp was incredibly bland and udon noodles were soggy/overcooked. $14 for about a fistful of noodles. 3. Unagi don was 60% sauce soaked rice. Friend had to dig deep to find plain rice. Salmon collar was overcooked. Salmon skin maki roll was overly salted with a strange texture. The carrots in the roll were an interesting combo. 4. They had a grill presentation tables for those the wanted that Benihana style dining. The sushi looked real but did not try it - afraid to being in MT instead of in a real Japanese restaurant. The people working appeared to mostly Asian but the food was not. The 10oz sizzling steak on udon noodles with fried egg was not what I call Asian and did not sizzle when brought out. $20 was overpriced for thin overcooked steak, plain udon noodles from a box, and an egg that was tiny. Strange salad with some type of mayo sauce - too sweet and thick for my Asian taste buds. We did the teppan side of the restaurant and I will have to say our chef was "pretty fly for a white guy," as he put it :) He was really good at what he does and the seriousness of when he is focused on cooking our food was very refreshing to see. I had medium rare beef teriyaki and he most definitely made it medium rare. Price was great, didn't have to pay the benihana price and still took home tons of left overs perfect for breakfast. If you're coming in town like we did and want some decent sized dinner with pleasant conversations, I would recommend this place. Plus, unlike some of the brewery we wanted to go to, at least they are open until 9:30. I was against my hubby's idea of coming here but in the end, glad that I did. read more

My wife and I ate here tonight and we were both happy with our choice of restaurant as well as food selections. She is a sushi fan and liked their Philadelphia Rolls and also liked the Great Falls Rolls. I liked my 5-ounce NY Steak with Udon noodles, over-easy egg and a side order of fried rice. It was an interesting and nice flavor combination. I also enjoyed the Miso soup as an appetizer. We both enjoyed the Plum wines (yes, 2 each - we had a long night last night in a hotel without electricity or hot water). The service was very attentive without being annoying, which is a tough tightrope to walk. The room is well lit and nicely arranged with table service on one side and the full Japanese "floor show" cooking experience on the other. We could watch some tables from where we were seated and could see the folks there were enjoying their experience, too. If we are ever near Great Falls again we are very likely to stop in again. In a time when customer service seems to be waning in food service, Kobe stands out as even less concerned about customers or food quality than most. The initial host was polite and while quick to attempt the upsale of the grill top area, seemed to reasonably accept the selection of regular seating. That was the last of the positive contacts in the ambiance department. The waitress seemed annoyed to have another table, although it was 2 hours until closing and she only had one other table. She did take our drink order and quickly ran away before we could catch her for the appetizer order. There was not a single moment where a smile was present on her face. The grill top tables (3) did eventually fill up and the show would start for them, even though there was only one chef for that section, so only one grill top table at a time would be served at a time, so plenty of waiting available. The other table, left and another family came in and was treated to the same welcoming demeanor. We did get our order in, still well over an hour and a half before closing, but immediately upon their departure, the tables were cleared, checks retrieved, and mopping began. Every area but our immediate table area was mopped and prepared for closure. The food arrived and managed to be even more disappointing than the service. To be fair, the rainbow roll did look appealing. The salmon cheek was ok, as they were out of the tuna cheek. The dumplings managed to be disappointing as well. It total, it was a disappointment. We won't be back, but I feel worse for the people who showed up at 30 minutes before close, into the freshly mopped area of tables. I can only imagine the top tier service they received. read more

Wish I could make this review a zero star. What a disappointing experience. My wife and I were in town for the day. We were hungry and wanted to have something other than burgers or chicken. We found Kobe Seafood & Steak on Yelp and decided to make a visit based on the recent reviews. Once we entered the restaurant we were seated quickly and our waiter arrived a few moments later. We placed an order for some hot green tea and a couple of orders of sashimi. This is when things began to go sideways for us. Unfortunately there was only one person preparing sushi and the takeout orders were taking precedence over those who were seated. My wife had a small salad and I had a small bowl of miso soup, the waiter never once came back to our table to either see how are we doing, take our dirty dishes away or give us a heads up as to the status of our food order. After 40 minutes of waiting AFTER our waiter had brought our green tea and starter dishes we looked at each other and both agreed screw this and placed a $5 bill on the table then proceeded to walk out. This was our first and ONLY visit to this establishment. Hope you have much better luck than we did. read more

This was the worst sushi I have ever had. The price was ridiculous for what was served. The waiter never once asked how our food was until I asked for the check and complained. Kobe is one of the best foods i have ever eaten, if there was a 10 start review, i would write 10!! The only thing is that the prices are a little high, me and my mom got the kids meal just because of it. Other than that sushi is the best part, only sushi place i'd have in town. Service was just phenomenal, I can't think of another place in town that has the kindness and understanding from the waiters and waitresses! Keep up the good work. This wonderful establishment is easily my go-to place when taking my wife on a date! We happen to like to get a booth as opposed to the grill seating where they cook in front of you (though that's really fun as well). We typically get a sweet merlot which seems to complement the asian flavors of the food. Kobe's fried rice is the best. I always get chicken fried rice while my wife likes the vegetable fried rice entree. Whatever they do, Kobe's brings out a wonderful flavor in their fried rice. My wife almost always has the rainbow roll while I have tuna, salmon and octopus as sashimi. I have never had bad sushi here! The menu items are so fresh and have that delightful taste of fresh sushi. The chef always has a way of presenting the sushi entrees in a delightfully delicious manner. The staff is wonderful and the owner can be found at the restaurant at times. Everyone on the staff including the owner is so friendly and makes you feel right at home. Truly an amazing place to have dinner (or in my case, a dinner date with my lovely wife)! Stop in and enjoy wonderful, authentic asian dining at its finest. Enjoy! read more

Fun and unique experience. Just what we needed! Food was great and service was even better! I admit I was rather skeptical about a eating at a Tepannyaki restaurant in Great Falls, but was immediately impressed that they had an experienced tepanyaki chef that didn't only know what he was doing, but joked around with us and occasionally tossed broccoli into our mouths as he prepared our delicious meal and reasonably priced meal. Our server was fun to look at and suggested sake bombs, which are a break from the norm and lots of fun to drink. Two chopsticks are placed on top of a glass with your choice of beer and a shot glass filled with warm sake is carefully balanced between them. See photo. Back for the last time in a while, ironically my partner in crime and I happened to have the same waiter: Spencer, that waited on us six months ago. Shout out to Joe and the whole staff at Kobe!! . U can't go wrong with the best Japanese restaurant in the Great Falls, Montana. Hands down. We've eaten here as a couple and with large groups for the past 6 months at least 10-15 times. It doesn't matter if you sit at a booth or at the grill, all the food is outstanding, I recommend doing the tapinyaki for any special occasion. I usually order HAMACHI and I get the fillet mignon! To die for! My lady always orders the shrimp and chicken. Oh and if Andy is your Tapinyaki Chef, he is awesome and is a really animated chef! He is a great chef. So my favorite is to order the unagi and hot sake and Kirin ichiban, makes me feel like a boss! Hahha so good. I recommend this over any Japanese restaurant in the city.
