Where do I begin with how bad my first time experience was here! I ordered a burger that was dry & tasteless, messy & wet for whatever reason, and the avocado I had on the burger that we're totally expired - tasted like garbage! Wouldn't feed it to my dog!!! It's never fun to leave a negative review, but come on! We tried again after quite some time to see if there have been any improvements.....and none. The salad bar is back, so I was excited to try it, but it is a joke! First, ordering drinks is ridiculous. The server asked the bartender twice, while he stood there on his phone. Getting a drink took about 10 mins while I watched the bartender just stand there. The salad bar is $19.99 and for what?? I expected a salad bar filled with lots of toppings, all the extras and other types of salad - it's just lettuce, a few toppings and unlabeled dressing. That's it. Megan was our server. We came in at 8:11 pm on a Monday night-they close at 9 pm. We ordered 2 chicken fried steak and a sirloin. Salads arrived quickly but food did not arrive until 8:57 pm. Both chix fried steak arrived Luke warm AT BEST. We sent 1 back and it was microwaved so came back hardened so not good at all. The sirloin was very good. The service was NOT GOOD AT ALL. We understand it's near closing time but would have appreciated some attention from the server ( drinks, updates on why food takes so long, picking up payment, etc.). Disappointing experience overall. After posting this, I spoke to the business manager. She was very apologetic and listened to my concerns. She went out of the way to promise to rectify the situation which I appreciate. Went in a while back after hearing they were again offering soup and salad bar. It was late afternoon before the dinner crowd so they weren't even remotely busy. They've had a waitress who has been there a long time who never comes to check on you and of course we got stuck with her yet again. She spends more time yacking at the bar then paying attention to her tables. I ended up with a tiny cup of soup and the next time she came back it was to bill us out. Never checked on us once. The food was excellent! The service was horrible. Some young kid with the nametag Thomas seemed to be the main bartender when we sat down. He ignored us for several minutes before deciding to grace us with his attention. He continued to ignore us (including no utensils or napkins with our food, which was delivered by another member of the staff). Memorable for all the wrong reasons! By 7:00 they were out of Prime Rib, we decided on 2 center cut rib steaks 1 rare, 1 med rare. Shane returned to inform us they only had 1 left. It was obvious it had been miss cooked or returned to the kitchen. Served on a 6 inch plate well done not a drop of juice. Ineatable no appology from server or discount. There was just two of us at the table and they were auctioned off to us. One of us had soup, and the other salad or appetizer plates were left on the table. Their entrées came and again they were auctioned off at the table and none of the plates were picked up and take it off the table. Now we're looking at appetizer plates, dirty soup, plates, and dirty salad plates, trying to eat our entrée. When you go out for dinner, you pay for an experience and someone to take care of you and service you otherwise you might stay home and do it yourself I had the cap ribeye, 6 ounces of meat for a very high price, My husband had a pasta edition. When we walked in, we were prepared for a nice experience - the people were friendly and servers were quite busy yet efficient. The place is a lot nicer than many restaurants in the area. The food coming to the other tables looked fabulous. We spent a lot of time looking at the menu trying to decide. The Hubbs and I share everything, so we often negotiate who is getting what. I started with a drink called the dirty orphan girl (description in photo below), and the Hubbs had a lemon sour beer. We decided to order all appetizers. And this is where we had hit-and-miss experience. The baked potato soup was good - a nice size and good flavor. The French onion soup was very salty and it had a thicker texture than most. And it was odd that it was in a smaller than usual bowl, especially when you pay $2 extra for a premium soup. The wedge salad was nice - crisp with grape tomatoes and bacon chunks. Lots of blue cheese. The Montana scone biscuits were fabulous! I ordered the Ahi Tuna appetizer. It appeared to be cooked nice and rare and presented nicely with rice and sauces. But the texture was weird - a little mushy. I ate it cuz I paid $18 for it, but didn't enjoy it. The Hubbs got the Teriyaki Steak bites with mushrooms. It looked fabulous and came with several slices of toasted bread. But again, so salty we couldn't eat it. We took it to go because maybe I can put some potatoes with it to offset the salt. We were visiting from out of town and looking for a good steak and thought we would try it out. Front of the house service seemed a little disjointed, the host seemed to be confused as to where to seat us. That being said our server Tiffany was very helpful, suggested the Sirloin and I was not disappointed. Great cut of beef done perfectly. Wedge salad was great and the Baked Potato Soup was delish. Fry bread was very good as well! It felt like for as many staff as they had working on a Monday evening that the service would have been on point. We have always loved coming to Jakers as the food and service is usually very good. As soon as we were seated the man who was to be our waiter was loudly berating the couple in the booth behind us. Telling them they really put him in a bind. How he had 5 tables fill up at once and they had asked to get something and how it was really a problem. Having been a waitress for most of my life this is part of the job and it is NEVER the customers fault. We ordered the lobster bisque as it is a favorite. We were served very thin, stringy soup with hardly any of the flavor of our usual experience. We asked for ice water with lemon with our meal and we were stuck with the tiny glasses of the starter water and brought some lemon slices. The food was severely over priced for the quality. It is not cheap, but you get lots of food, the service was great and the price was reasonable for what you get. I am not sure how they make the soup, but I am going to find out. So Jakers holds a special place in my heart. It's where my wife and I got engaged and, at the time, it was the only nice/fancy restaurant in town; therefore, we went there a lot. It always had amazing food. From the lobster bisque to the salmon, no matter what you ordered you knew it would be incredibly full of flavor. It was the place to be if you wanted top-notch cuisine. Now, all that was prior to COVID, prior to more restaurants coming to town, prior to the growth of Great Falls, and literally about a decade ago. Therefore, I know a lot has changed and evolved over the years. However, in that evolution, I believe that some of the dishes and their preparation have devolved. We had a group of 26 people for a special lunch party. The staff was very involved and attentive. They brought fresh rolls, or what they call scones, to the table prior to the meal. All seemed great until the entrees arrived. I and a few others ordered the almond chicken. The consensus was that although it appeared delicious and packed with flavor it was extremely bland and insipid. My wife's steak bites were drowned in a deluge of watery sauce and served with rock-hard slices of bread that even after soaking them in the sauce they remained tough and unenjoyable. The final, yet immediately resolved, issue was a hair in my friend's wrap. I'm not sure the tensile strength of this particular hair but it was so intertwined in the makings of the wrap that the hair was able to support the weight of the wrap while suspended. However, like I said they resolved the issue ASAP by removing it from the ticket and providing her a fresh wrap. Nevertheless, I believe there's a larger issue in the kitchen. It's with a heavy heart that I give fewer stars than I would like, but I can't deny our experience. Nevertheless, I would love to come back, have a better experience, and upgrade my review to five stars. I would not tell anyone to run for the hills or avoid this restaurant at all costs. We have been ordering from here for years, as well as eating in the restaurant. Demonstrable difference between the plate you are served in person and what was just delivered. Over the years, the chicken on the blackened chicken pasta has gotten smaller, over-cooked, and lacks "blackening". There is maybe 4 chunks of zucchini in this, maybe. 3 mushrooms. The Ahi Tuna appetizer continues to get smaller and smaller and this time the wasabi was even watered down with?? It was an odd color, too. Not good at all. We won't be ordering again. Since it was so late we didn't want a huge meal so we ordered some sides instead. Everything we had was very tasty. The lobster bisque is AMAZING! We each had a bowl. So delicious. This came with the tastiest rolls ever (+oyster crackers ) and just that would have been enough food. Just thought I needed some veggies so I also ordered a side of sauteed zucchini. It was well seasoned and lightly cooked. I would have preferred a softer bite, but it was still good. My friend also ordered a baked potato which was HUGE and generously covered in butter and sour cream. We each enjoyed a cocktail as well. I thought the drinks were well made and not overly priced. Colleen, our waitperson, was on the ball in asking about one or separate checks (we were separate). Drinks arrived in a reasonable time and orders were taken. Meals arrived in a reasonable time although parts of one order trickled in at the end. Not uncommon for a larger group. Not a lot of discussion about dinner but I do have to say that I was pleased with my Thai noodle salad with ahi. They might have done better with glass noodles rather that the ramen-ish ones they served but the ahi was seared and pepper-crusted to perfection. My Fiancé and I went to enjoy a night out. He loves fish, and he ordered the parmesean crusted walleye. It was raw, he doesn't see the best and didn't notice right away and ate two bites. I looked over at his plate and noticed right away, I panicked and told him to stop eating it was raw! So he opened it up and this is what we saw! Called waitress over and she tried to yank the plate away from him before I could get a photo. But I did anyways. We were both very disappointed and concerned since he had a couple bites before I brought this to his attention.
